So I have had problems with my drivers side front window for as long as Ive had my car (about three years) in that when rolling it up I have to lift the forward edge up and back while rolling it up or it just sticks. Today I rolled it down and when I tried to roll it back up the handle was very difficult to turn even though I was tilting it back in the usual manner eventually the handle slipped and

VOLKSWAGEN UP Power windows wont go up

I have a 1990 volkswagen Cabriolet with power windows. The power windows seemed to have a short in them for a time. They then stopped working. I change the fuse under the dash I think it was a 30 amp. They started working again then one day they stopped working yet again. I changed the fuse but it did not work this time. Neither one of the window switches will work so I do not think it is the switches.

VOLKSWAGEN PASSAT B5 For those of you whose rear window(s) roll up but not down

Okay yesterday after work I came home and went straight to work on fixing my window problem that a few of us were talking about earlier this week. If your REAR (dont know if this applies to the front) window(s) will not roll down but will roll up heres a step-by-step on how to fix it. If youre fairly mechanical its easy 1. Press the button as you normally would to roll down the window if it actually

To resurect this thread I just finished the same repair on my drivers-side rear window. Its worth mentioning where I found my spreader pin in case anyone else cant find theirs. I searched all around the bottom of the inside of the door to no avail. Finally I found it lodged in the platform that holds the window just below the glasss bottom edge. So if you dont find it at the bottom look up there on the window platform.

I figured out why the metal inner panel was so hard to pry open. The window glass was still on the clamp. LOL. Anyway to access the hole on the window pane without going through the hole in the metal panel lower the clamp using the power window controls. Then carefully lift the window upwards manually so that it detaches from the clamp. Once thats done you should be able to slightly pry open the metal

VOLKSWAGEN PASSAT B5 Driver side window behavior

2002 1.8T 85000 mi. My drivers window is behaving erratically. Sometimes the auto up or auto down does not work. Presently auto up is dead. Of more concern is when the window goes down it does not soft stop at the bottom. At the bottom of window travel there is a pronounced thump. Not loud or metallic but louder than what I am used to and certainly louder than the passenger side. Is this the prewarning to broken window clips Some sort of electronic window control failure

VOLKSWAGEN PASSAT B5 01 Passat Sedan power windows acting up - have codes but still cant figure it out

Greetings all. New to me 01 Passat sedan. Drivers window regulator failed with window down ended up replacing regulator and motor as original motor was destroyed when forcibly removing the regulator panel (had to get window up in time to leave car at the airport and catch my flight..) VOLKSWAGEN PASSAT B5 intermittent auto-down on passengers side window

Suddenly it seems my passengers side front window will not always do the auto-down when I activate the switch to roll the window down. anyone got a clue as to what I should be looking for it works once in a while but not all the time. when it is acting up I have to hold the switch in the down position. it also doesnt matter which switch I use - either the master drivers side or the passenger side switch and it does the same thing - stops as soon as I let up on the switch.

Ive had the identical symptom. Except that I know exactly what it is - the w indow r egualtor. Though a bad or intermittently bad WR does not cause a CEL it does throw a code that stays in memory. My Vag-com picks up intermitent failure specifically for the window that is on the fritz. Its been like that for years. But since its my passenger rear window I dont pay much attention to it. The best price

I have the same problem.....all windows work perfect and then just one day (just happened yesterday) the auto up-down dont work....no weird sounds though. Its so effin random It seems like after I shut the car off and start it back up after everything returns to normal...

VOLKSWAGEN PASSAT B5 Driver side Window stopped working

I really dont know whats going on with this. Its my brothers car and I just finished installing new speakers for him. I popped the door panel back into place tested everything. I retracted the window all the way down then started bringing it back up...nope. It goes up about 2 inches then stops. Its weird. The window can go up and down at those 2 inches but it wont go any higher than that. I did some

Check to see if the new speaker is in any way interfering with the window movement. The window or its regulator may be getting hung up on the speaker if its sitting deeper into the door than the original speaker was. Also inspect where the top of the door panel fits into the top of the door. If its out of position and pressing on the glass hard enough to hinder glass movement the built in pinch protection may be stopping the window motor from moving any further.

Originally Posted by Steve in Chicago Check to see if the new speaker is in any way interfering with the window movement. Im sure the mounting depth of the new speaker is greater than the factory speaker causing the problem. Good luck.

I really dont know what was going on. I took the speaker out and the window started working again perfectly. The speaker mounting depth is 3...the same as the factory. I checked the make sure the mounting screws werent causing any interference. They werent. I put the speaker back in mounted it. Fit the door panel on. Everything works. I can lower the window up and down no problems but when going up

Originally Posted by Patdon10 when going up It seems like it has a bit of a hiccup where it was stuck before. Inspect the back of the speaker and the window system in the area of the speaker for any signs of parts contacting one another. You may end up needing to shim the speaker out a few millimeters.

VOLKSWAGEN PASSAT B5 Driver side Window screeching

Our 02 Variants driver side window make a horrible screeching noise when its rolled up or down. It makes 99% of the noise when its moving in the lower half of the movement. VOLKSWAGEN PASSAT B5 Help I need a drivers side window - quick

Does anyone have any advice on finding the best deal for a replacement drivers side window I was pleasantly surprised when I walked up to my Passat a few minutes ago that my drivers side window was completely cracked to bits. I didnt see any vandalizing impressions so Im assuming it was just caused by stress or heat. Would it be cheaper to purchase the glass on my own and pay for the install Or would it be cheaper to call up speedy auto glass and have them take care of the whole thing Thank you

VOLKSWAGEN PASSAT B5 Driver Side Window Repair

Does anyone know how to get the front driver side window back on to the tracks so that it can be raised and lowered. the window and brackets have come off the track that moves the window up and down. Does anyone know how to go about fixing this problem

I havent heard about a recall on the Passat only the Jetta. If you dont qualify for a recall you will need to replace your entire window regulator you cant buy the clips by themselves. There is a write-up in the information base on using Audi clips to fix the regulator.

VOLKSWAGEN PASSAT B5 Rear window does not respond from driver side

I noticed today that i couldnt lower my rear right side window from the driver controls. The window rolls up and down perfectly when the button on that door is used and also when i try lowering the windows from outside with my keys. So what could cause that only control not to work i mean the rear left works fine

VOLKSWAGEN PASSAT B5 Car suddenly wont start and window wont roll updown why

Hey guys here is the situation I came across today while trying to do some maintenance on my car. I was repairing the rear passenger side window. the plastic pin that holds the window fell out so I put it back and used some zip ties to make sure that the pin never falls out again. once I finished i tested the window and it worked flawlessly. so I closed it. I then moved the car into a different area

VOLKSWAGEN PASSAT B5 Drivers side power window button broke

On the power window control panel on the drivers side my drivers side window button has snapped out. Im trying to figure out the cost to replace the panel to decide if I should just try to hack together some way of getting the switch mounted back in there. The stupid plastic broke so now if I cram it in there it gets stuck in one position or another (usually in the down position). I have a 1998 Passat 1.8L turbo. I got the triple square adapter from an OReilly auto parts here in Austin. The particular store just looks sketchy in general some guy busted out of there one time with stolen parts while I was looking at my coolant reservoir. Nonetheless they managed to always pull through. Not only did they have a compatible triple square adapter but it was labelled as such. I just used them to remove the bolts on

VOLKSWAGEN PASSAT B5 Passat power window wont go up.

Hi I have a 2000 Passat and the drivers window worked until last night. It went down OK but wont go up. All others are OK. Drivers wont go with switch or key. I hear a clicking in the door area so I think the switch is OK. Any ideas Do motors go bad that fast no warning How hard a fix is thisAny one have a diagram on how to remove the inner door panel Its 20 below zero here in Wisconsin and I dont have aheated garage so I may have to have this done for me. Any idea how expensive Thanks Perry

Heres a tip to get the window up. Take a long piece of clear packing tape and fold it sticky side out over a thin metal ruler. Push it into the door until the tape contacts at least an inch of the glass. Use the tape to pull the window up. Once its up tape over the door frame to hold it. Two or three strips should keep it there until you get the regulator.

VOLKSWAGEN PASSAT B5 Window wont roll all the way up -NOT REGULATOR CLIPS-

So my passenger window rolls all the way down but stops half way on the way up. It then makes a clicking noise. I can pull it up (while pushing the up button) with a GOOD deal of force. So I know it isnt the clips but I cant think of what would be the problem (visualizing the door regulator panel). Just wondering if anyone has experienced this so I can get some input before having to pull that panel off. I am already currently replacing the damn clips on driver side. And it rained this weekend

Hello-- I believe that I need to replace this assembly on my front passenger side. Yesterday I lowered that window but when I went to raise it it would only go up until there was still approx 2 inches of space left. It made a weird scraping noise and then just stopped moving past that point. I took the door panel apart and found what appeared to be a brokencoiled up wire twisted around some other guide

VOLKSWAGEN PASSAT B5 Window Grinding on Drivers side

So Ive searched the only answer I got was that a rusted cable on the regulator caused the window to grind and resulted in buying a new regulator. But how can this be properly diagnosed I didnt share the same symptoms. Problem window rolls up just fine although sometimes when I hit the roll up button (where it automatically goes up) it likes to go back down. On its way down it groans and makes a grinding

VOLKSWAGEN PASSAT B5 WTF is up with my driver side door locklatch Many scenarios

VOLKSWAGEN PASSAT B5 Driver Side Window Keeps falling into door

This is the 3rd time Ive replaced the plastic clips that hold the window up. Yet somehow they keep managing to break in half causing the window to fall into my door. Im wondering if there is a permanent fix for this because its getting extremely annoying (and time consuming). 1999 Passat 1.8T
