VOLKSWAGEN BEETLE 1998 VW Diesel TDI wont start in cold condition

Hello A coworker of mine has a VW beetle 1998 TDI diesel model. He loaned his vehicle to a friend. They used the car in the cold condition (around 0 to -5F). It was running fine. They then turned off the car. It was left for approx 2.5 hours. After that it would not start. After towing it to a warm spot where everything could thaw for several hours some diagnostics were tested fuel lines. They were

Make sure that you checked to see if the glow plugs are really getting current. The resistance test is ok for the glow plugs to see if they are not burned out but you must check each one to see if they are getting 12volts DC when the preheat light is on. During cold weather if the diesel fuel is not winterized the paraffin(wax) will seperate out of the diesel fueland clog up the fuel filter. Sometimes

The ole WD-40 trick doesnt work anymore they made in non flamable. Dont spray anything into the intake of a diesel untill you disconnect the glow plugs and they are cool. You could have a big enough explosion to blow the head off the engine and hurt some one. I would think it could be that its just a diesel thing diesels dont like cold weather at all. If it was running fine and parked in that cold

First the 66mpg motor was well boke in and I had the injection pump timing tweaked.

VOLKSWAGEN BEETLE diesel rough idle

hello everyone. i am looking at buying a 99 beetle with a diesel. it runs good at speed but when at idle it seems to be rough. I didnt see any smoke coming from the tailpipe. VOLKSWAGEN BEETLE Check eninge light

My girlfriend just bought my grandparents 2000 VW bug(diesel). It had a home in a nice warm garage and was driven almost daily like every other car however my girlfriend has only owned it for about 4 days now and the check engine light has come on. VOLKSWAGEN BEETLE biodiesel and warranty question

aloha im about to buy an 06 turbo diesel new beetle. i really want to use biodiesel but a friend said that she had heard that it may affect the warranty. in other words if you bring it in for repairs and they discover that you have been using biodiesel they may not fix the car under warranty. has anyone heard anything about this or know if its true This ad is not displayed to registered members. I keep seeing people that say their dealers wont honor warranties on vegetarian VWs however VW and ADM (supermarket to the world) like this combination - here is a link that may be worth reading ... httpwww.biodiesel.orgresourcesp...0318_VW_B5.pdf -- I do remain skeptical on content of most articles until I can verify the authentic author - big oil makes their money of foreign supply not American farmers

I have been running biodiesel in myNew beetle TDIfor 4 years. Some friends do straight veggie oil or SVO conversion kits to run in their VWs which heats up the veggie oil to a temperature where the oil runs like a liquid. But I saw a friend lose his engine in the winter because he got impatient and switched over to SVO to soon before it had a chance to heat up properly. I have been running B20 in the

VOLKSWAGEN BEETLE 1999 manual beetle is stalling all the time

Hey there first off let me say i am not a car person so sorry for my non-technical description of my problem bear with me I have a 1999 new beetle with a manual transmission. i bought the car used in great condition in 2007 and since then it has ran like a champ very few issues besides routine maintenance. VOLKSWAGEN BEETLE hot turbo

Hi I have a 2001 1.9 diesel beetle my question is sometimes when driving up the mountain I live at 6800 ft elevation the car will seem to go into a limp mode wont go above about 40 mph. Im driving the car easy not bombin the mountain outside temp is about 60 degrees no lights appear on the dash. This only happens once in awhile and once the car is shut off and then started again the problem stops.

Something to check out is the air shut-off components of the intake system. The system has an air shut-off valve or flap in the intake manifold that closes when the engine is shut down. Shutting down the air prior to fuel reduces the shock associated with diesel engine shutdown. This is a vacuum operated system controlled by a air shut-off valve vacuumsolenoid. The system resets each time you shut

Nice mauso. Im not very well versed on a diesel at all. Turbo gas engine I know inside and out but diesels are a whole different beast. Glad someone here has an idea there.

VOLKSWAGEN BEETLE White Smoke at Idle

Hi Guys Hope you can shed any light on this issue for me. I bought a VW beetle approx 2 months ago. Its a petrol 2001 plate 1.6. I have no problems with starting the car. No smoke nothing. As the hot weather started to pick up last week I drove approx 20 miles (in heavy traffic) and thick white smoke started coming out of my exhaust mainly when I was idling in traffic or when I accelerated off. Panicked

Bad valve stem seals will cause it to draw oil in on induction because of the high vacuum and therefore oil will be burnt and it will show blue smoke in the exhaust. This will show up more if you overrun down a hill the put your foot down at the bottom. Bubbles will form in the cooling system when the head gaskets has gone but you dont always see them while its idling. White smake is normally seen

VOLKSWAGEN PASSAT B6 Faulty diesel injector

Ive been told by my mechanic that my 2.0 2007 Passat has an injector that isnt working properly. I know nothing about modern mechanics at all so have to rely on others (even though I used to be able to take the engine out of my beetle in 30 minutes with a plank of wood). I understand that a new unit is about 450 plus labour Is it really possible for a unit 3 years old to go faulty The car only has 35K miles. What alternatives have I got Thanks for your help

VOLKSWAGEN PASSAT Passat and Jetta Engines the Same

Are they exactly the same diesel engines in the 13 Passat and Jetta What about transmissions Should they both get the same real world mpg or might Jetta be a bit better

No actually they are completely different. The Only similarity is that they are both Common Rail diesels. The Passat uses solenoid injectors at 1600 bar vs the JettaGolfbeetle which uses piezo injectors at 1800 bar. The Passat uses urea injection as a selective catalyst reduction agent where the JGB uses a NOx storage catalyst. As a result of this the Passat is capable of higher fuel economy.

VOLKSWAGEN PASSAT B7 What are your thoughts using veggie oil in the B7 tdi

Wondering what are your thoughts of using veggie oil in the B7 tdi I got a friend that has a restaurant that does quite a bit of deep fried stuff. He is actually paying some company to collect his used oil. Would I be benefiting if I can take that oil and convert it to useable fuel for the tdi sorry but i am a noob when it comes to veggie oil

Originally Posted by corradog60stage4 Wondering what are your thoughts of using veggie oil in the B7 tdi EXTREMELY bad idea If you convert it to biodiesel then you could use it as an additive as mentioned spec is up to 5% but 20% may be safe. DO NOT put grease in a modern diesel the fuel injection systems on these are designed to inject fuel at 20000 - 30000 psi and will foul in very short order if the proper fuel is not used. There are many examples of people converting the old ALH diesel engines (1999-2003 JettaGolfbeetle) to grease cars and they would only last 20-50k miles before catastrophic engine failure.

VOLKSWAGEN PASSAT B7 test drove TDI base level with DSG

I had some extra time and the dealer was close by...thats what I told my 2004 B5.5. For the price it made my old 2004 GlS with leather & sunroof seem like a pos. The DSG is amazing for the shift feel and watching the tach needle move so fast as it shifts. I was impressed by the diesel no big rattlecan of bolts sounds and instant torque. I would not like the loss of the sweet sound of a gas engine reving

I have tried to like diesels but each time they leave me with a feeling of boredom. I love the rev of a nice engine but if I was forced to do a long commute I might just have a soundtrack of a Ferrari V8 on my Ipod and play that instead and enjoy the 900km between fill-ups. I hope the new B7 Passat will eventually get the 2.0 Turbo that with a DSG would be nice Well the 2.5 is not much of a revver either but the New beetle loaner I had a couple years ago was ok plus I love the sound of a inline5. tks
