I recently started having problems with my 00 beetle overheating and have noticed that niether of the cooling fans run whether the car is running or not no matter how hot the engine gets. The water pump is working fine and the serpentine belt is brand new and tensioned correctly. The fans both operate when connected directly to the battery so I have narrowed the problem down to one of three potential

VOLKSWAGEN BEETLE New guy looking at a Super Beetle

Hi i am new here and am looking at a 1974 super beetle and 1973 beetle parts car package deal. Alittle about me I am in college at the moment and still cant spell so bear with me. I have owned only trucks so far in my life. My 1984 chevy c10 is my baby and no car will take its place. I have rebuilt alot of garden tractors and worked on cars for some time. Why i like VW As you can tell i am a chevy

if the 73 is also a super beetle all parts will swap over. if not then things like the brakes and such wont they will fit but not properly the thing to remeber is not to mix and match they are different . interiors and such will interchange you have to look closely at the windshield if you have a locked up motor you might be better buying a rebuilt ready to go onerather than trying to redo one that

VOLKSWAGEN BEETLE Horn issue.

When we got the beetle the horn was dead. We replaced it and it worked for a very short time. Not it doesnt work 98% of the time and only works occasionally. That might have something to do with it except for it definitely

VOLKSWAGEN BEETLE 74 Idle Problems

3 years ago...mechanic installed engine and car ran fine for about 2 weeks and the idle gradually started slowing until it wouldnt idle at all. VOLKSWAGEN NEW BEETLE 1C1 9C1 1C9 9G1 New Beetle

hi my daughter has a 2000 beetle. in the time she has owned it I have replaced the plastic skid plate under engine once () & now the skid plate after losing the buttons that hold it is damaged & half gone. before I fork over more for another skid plate how important do you guys thing that thing is Thanks for any advice. This ad is not displayed to registered members. Register your free account today and become a member on volkswagen Forum

k...I think the real issue is her driving habits. I assume the car isnt lowered at all shouldnt be having so many issues with destroying the plastic shield. It happens on occassion...but its just a matter of replacing it and being careful where and how you drive when you might have clearance issues. Otherwise I recommend not replacing it at all...lol As for its importance...its not a skid plate skid

VOLKSWAGEN BEETLE 69 beetle wont idle.

i just replaced carburetor and fuel pump on my 69 beetle and it will start and run a few seconds but it wont idle. it has new pilot cut off solenoid hooked up to coil and solenoid clicks when key is turned on. the carburetor is a new brosol that is the replacement for solex 30 pict 2. it acts like it runs out of fuel but it will restart upon pumping accelerator. do i need to adjust carburetor and if

I would start with the idle adjustment screw. Its on the left side of the carb on the older Solex carbs and has a spring on it. Find it and screw it all the way in then back it out about 2.5 turns. This should give you a good starting point. Start the car and SLOWLY turn the screw back in counting how many turns youre giving it. When the engine starts to sputter stop and move it back to the 2.5 mark.

VOLKSWAGEN BEETLE Looking at 63 beetle No heater boxes

Im looking at trading my miata for a 1963 VW beetle with a baja kit. The owner removed the heater boxes and installed j-pipes. the heater boxes are no probem 150 or so used hoses between the boxes and the heater duct inlets are around 50 or so.... now you need the cables and linkage TO the heater boxes. Most used boxes come with it but some dont. make sure you have the or levers (depending on vintage) to control the the cables installed as well. They stick out of the sides of the pan forks in case you not familiar with them.

VOLKSWAGEN BEETLE 2003 VW Beetle Conv AIRBAG Light on all the time

My wife™s 2003 VW beetle convertible Airbag light has come on and stayed on again that™s to say we had it cleared about 3 months ago by the local dealer and its back on again we took it back to the dealer and they said it was probably going to cost in excess of 500 to find the fault and replace the parts that were possibly causing the issue.. Well I aren™t up for spending that kind of money on a car

Clocksprings are a common airbag code but those are expensive to have changed no matter what. (And people wonder why I dont buy cars with airbags).

VOLKSWAGEN BEETLE Opinions Needed

I currently own a 1998 Cabrio which I LOVE. It has about 165000 miles on it. The clutch was installed wrong out of the factory so Ive had to replace that along with the timing belt serpentine belt muffler etc. Some things were general maintenance others were not. But my Cabrio gets me where Im going and Im attached to it. Unfortunately its about time to trade her in for a new car. I love the VW beetles

I would defiantly buy one again i love this car. I have not run into any problems yet and i have a 2002 with 37000 miles on it. If you take good care of it then it will take good care of you. OH fyi... stay away from diesel bugs. Lemon waiting to happen. Unleaded runs fantastic. I would recommend not getting a convertible though. Those arent the safest and i have also heard people that run into a lot

VOLKSWAGEN BEETLE HELP Not staying started

Hello there. My girlfriend has a 2003 beetle that is not staying started. When you turn the key it catches but nothing happens when you touch the gas it shuts right off. We brought it to a specialized dealer who claims it MAY have something to do with the immobilizer. Can anyone out there in the land of VW offer any advice Thanks. This ad is not displayed to registered members. Register your free account today and become a member on volkswagen Forum

The immobilizer system works like this The key has a code it transmits to the security system. This then looks for the security code from the ECU and the PCM. If ANY of these codes dont match the immobilizers codes itll shut down the system and not allow the vehicle to start. If the car starts at all then I dont think it sounds like an immobilizer problem. But if it actually IS the immobilizer you

VOLKSWAGEN PASSAT B5 Bypass filter installed

I installed a Frantz bypass filter on my 2001 AUG 1.8t. Im not trying to save money on oil changes per se (though I do think you could make it pay off by say tripling your oil change intervals) I did it rather to clean out a long history of neglect and abuse on this engine and to introduce another source of oil cooling. The apparatus fit pretty well under the coolant expansion tank. See pics on my BITOG post My 2001 Passat 1.8t Frantz install pics - Bob Is The Oil Guy

356Porsche used an OEM bypass system the paper filter being of a design available since the late 30s (I believe). Back then the oil and filter service interval was 1500 miles (most people stretched it to 3000). I used straight-weight oils 30 in the summer 20 in the winter (Porsche did not endorse multi-weight oils). High detergency (HD) oils were just coming in. And just as a side comment the VW beetle

VOLKSWAGEN PASSAT B5 New Passat Owner with a TON of Electrical Gremlins Please Help

Ok I bought a 99 Passat with the 2.8L V6 and 5 speed manual tranny. First off it RUNS great but youd never know it due to all the electrical problems. First problem. I can be setting at a light and my tachometer glitches and dives up and down even going below ZERO yet the car engine is idling perfect. When I drive it normal it spikes down occassionally but if I get on it the tach seems to lose control.

10 my POS car now drives perfectly straight and has a brand new great battery And also my power mirrors and power windows all work fine now as it was just a burned out fuse. Seems this POS car keeps getting better everyday and looking fine I might add. Its definitely no Ford Five Hundred like I replaced it with. Its engine isnt as powerful or smooth but this is my first VW except my old 71 Super beetle.

VOLKSWAGEN PASSAT B5 Airbag light with Scan Codes

Couple of weeks ago my airbag light came on. Of course right before the state safety inspection is due. Finally was able to scan the car yesterday with VAG-COM and pulled the codes. That 00591 and the following 32-10 intermittent code is identical to the issue I had with my wifes 2002 New beetle. Seems the NBs have a chronic problem with the drivers side seat belt switch failing (its contained inside the female end of the seat belt - the part you click the belt into). Her car is 9 years old and Ive had to replace two of the belt receptacles. Its not too hard to do but the belt
