MERCEDES BENZ SL 107 Water Pump Replacement HOWTO on earlier 107s

Water pump replacement on older 107s The replacement of the water pump is not the easiest of jobs but it is a job that can be done by someone with a bit of mechanical experience. You need a few tools (metric of course) but it is doable at home. You will need a couple of specialty tools for this job a timing light a dwell meter if your car is older than 1976 a 12 drive 27mm socket with a 3-4 inch extension

MERCEDES BENZ SL 107 Rolling Restore a Black Lipsticked 1973 450SL - Bringing a car out of storage

Im going to make a better effort to document my restoration of the car maybe pulling my links into this one thread. I think it makes most sense for me to have sub-threads for my individual adventures. Ill probably keep my plannedcurrent projects under my signature. (This first post will see lots of edits.) So here are my sub-adventures. Buying My Car when I knew nothing (what a mess of a thread) httpwww.benzworld.orgforumsr-c1...07-sl-buy.html

I dont think I ever posted a link to my data card in here httpwww.benzworld.orgforumsr-c1...vin-range.html (didnt find the build sheet) I was going to try to get everything right before posting in here again but it looks like maybe some of the reading could be a little helpful to others. So wth. Ill just post and hope to edit later. (please excuse edits in this post as I attempt to trace history over

MERCEDES BENZ SL 107 Some guidance on converting 1973 450SL to a manual transmission

Hi I am in the process of converting a 73 450SL to a 4 sp manual transmission. Ive read all the posts I could find on manual trans conversions but I have not been able to find an answer to this question. Were does the metal fluid line from the clutch master cylinder pass through the firewall From the attached picture it looks like line 95 goes through the boot 98 which seems to pass through the front

I am basically turning into a 107043. I bought a 107043 rusted out parts car so I have the 3.5 motor that I freshened up and I am going to mate it with the manual transmission. I pulled the side cover off the transmission and everything looks good with no metal shrapnel in the case bottom. I am going to install new front and rear seals and replace the linkage lever seals. Fortunately I have a mercedes

MERCEDES BENZ SL 107 107 seat back release adjustment - 1976 450SL (1971-1981)

The passenger seat back on my 1976 450SL stopped responding to the release lever that allows the seat back to flip forward. Here is a quick summary of how to adjust the mechanism that releases the seat back on an early 107s (probably 1971-1981). This process is easier with the seat removed tho it could probably be done in the car. Here is a link for 107 (1971-1981) seat removal steps . After the seat

MERCEDES BENZ SL 107 Another Transmission Shift Question - Modulator

89 560SL 134K Regardless of how I accelerate easy or WOT transmission will not shift to 3rd or 4th until I let off of the throttle quite a bit. I can ease up to any RPM and hold steady - no shift until I let off. I can accelerate hard and ease up - still no shift. Only shifts when I completely back off the throttle. Is this a modulator symptom Transmission has been serviced recently and fluid level is fine.

MERCEDES BENZ SL 107 mb v12 bi turbo m275

i know this is little bit of topic here but i will in a few weeks have three V12 bi-turbo engines with 5 speed auto from 2004 in my garage and the engines are fully complete with everything nothing is missing. get back with more info.....think i would put one in my 107 after all......

John thats good info about the shift delay but that can be done relatively easily on the SM4. The problem I can see is that IF the factory use 2x 6 cyl ECUs (much like m120 used 2xm104 units) then the setup is complicated. Also the CANbus is going to be a problem for a whole host of other issues like instrumentation abs yaw control etc - which are all tied into the harness. probably going to need a

MERCEDES BENZ SL 107 350sl engine parts are interchangeable with......

HELP I bought a 1974 350SL last week and have been browsing for replacement parts. I have been able to find a few overseas but they are not cheap and the shipping is rather pricey. MERCEDES BENZ SL 107 Air Pump Thread

Did a little forum searching on the air pump and didnt quite find what I was looking for. I have a sporadic ringing or tambourine-like noise occasionally that I have isolated to the air pump. This sound is not associated with any particular driving or operating conditions truly random and while the pump is free-wheeling. Anyone else encounter this Anyone been inside a 560 air pump RIght about now Id

Hi Chief Ive never performed this particular job but the MB repair manuals procedure 14-260 appears to show that only one hex nut and two snap rings hold the clutchpulley assembly together andor to the smog pump shaft. No reference is made to requiring a special puller or tool to remove the pulley from the pump. The hardest part appears to be removing the pump from its mount after disconnecting the

MERCEDES BENZ SL 107 FTE Bremsen Teile

I was wondering if anybody is familiar with FTE parts. I have to replace my master cylinder & the local parts supplier stocks FTE brake components. I have always used ATE products in the past. I was assured that FTE manufacturers quality components in Germany & that theyre a reputable manufacturer of auto parts for German cars.

I think this is the company. Not necessarily manufactured in Germany. How much are they asking for the part If over 100 they are too high. FTE automotive GmbH manufactures hydraulic brake and clutch systems for passenger cars and commercial vehicles. It offers aftermarket product portfolio which include clutch cylinders concentric slave cylinders brake master and wheel cylinders drum brakes brake calipers

MERCEDES BENZ SL 107 SLC 4 speed manual in a 77 450SL

So yesterday I found an SLC at the junkyard with a 4 speed manual. Im not sure the year of the car or the engine size. I think it was a 1974. It was a V8 Im guessing it was a 350SLC correct me if im wrong. It made me wonder what it would be like having a 4 speed manual in my 77 450SL. 3 reasons 1. Ive always loved driving stick shift. My last daily driver (before it was totaled last xmas eve while

MERCEDES BENZ SL 107 Oops...

Did it again... I was removing the glove box a couple of days ago to check a couple of items when I noticed the light wasnt working. I spent at least half an hour... checking the bulb checking the switch checking for power coming to the switch... As there was no power to the switch and I still had other things to do I decided it was a job that should probably be deferred to when I had more time. This

MERCEDES BENZ SL 107 Cost of Ownership

Just totaled up all the money I spent on my black 1988 560SL Delilah since I purchased it. Including a purchase price of 13500 in October of 2004 all receipts I have to date total 24962.79. That figure is probably off by 700.00 since I know Im missing a receipt for tires when I first got the car and probably a few others. So for less then 26K I have owned the car for 6 years now and put 58K miles on

MERCEDES BENZ SL 107 r107 AC not working

I bought my SLC in July. I finally got around to dying the center counsole tonight. It wasnt easy to pull out. While I was at it I decided to scrap the sony CD player for a factory Becker. MERCEDES BENZ SL 107 Adjusting shift pressure

If I dont lift off the pedal going into second it gets a good chirp from the tires. I have read the posts about adjusting the modulator just want to make sure I understand correctly. To reduce shift pressure you turn the key counterclockwise by pulling the key out of

Quote My tranny does not have a bowden cable. It has a solid rod connected to the throttle linkage. Right but there is an adjustment (turnbuckle affair) on the linkage at the joint where the throttle lever is connected to the straight rod that goes down to the tranny. You can vary the timing of the shifts with this adjustment. As for the modulator better for the transmission to have it a bit on the

had the same prob on my 79 slc.. the sunroof motor has a clutch which my mech tightened and the sunroof has worked perfectly ever since. I asked him about regreasing the cable.. he said not as easy as it seems and by doing an inspection at the motor end said the grease was in good condition and the clutch adjustment was all that was needed.

the cable is very hard especially for DIY r. I pulled down the lining on the inside of the roof and put it right back on again. I did read in the factory service manual about adjusting the clutch on the motor in the trunk. Interestingly when the car is at speed the roof works perfectly or at idle above 2K rpm it is just at idle it is slow and even stops when closing Next Friday It is going to the mechanic
