MERCEDES BENZ CLK II 209 Valeo Radiator issue

Hello this is my first post So what i am about to ask refers to the dreaded valeo radiator. I bought my clk 270 CDI Coupe 2003 about 2 months ago and this is my first benz ever so im really not familiar with the common problems and etc. According to star bulletin P-B-27.5550f dated March 24 2006 only models 209.365375376465475 before Sept 2003 suffers from that problem and my car does not belong to

You are correct. That SI does not list your diesel engine. However the WIS drawing below covers the same transmission problem

My two cents is the cost of replacing the radiator (assuming you do it yourself) is well worth the piece of mind. 200 for a radiator vs. a few thousand for a trans.

Hi My Merc specialist mechanic informs me that this problem is relevent to many mercedes and that manufacture dates etc can not be 100% relied on. I have a friend that had the Valeo Rad problem on an E Class. So I took no chances and had the Valeo radiator on my 2004 clk 320 changed once I got a clear glycol test pre purchase. I prefer the peace of mind. Regards

Hi all My first post. Seems I have the Valeo radiator and the worst has happened. Water in the oil and a completely trashed transmission. A replacement transmission (the 7.22.8 7 speed I am told) is not available here in NZ and a rebuild or second hand unit (from Australia) will be about NZ10K fitted with a new radiator. The car is worth about 10k. Any suggestions Has MB acknowledged any liability

MERCEDES BENZ CLK II 209 VALEO RADIATOR 2004 CLK500 please advice

I just bought a 2004 clk500 the manufacturing date on the sticker in the door says January 2004 however I checked out the radiator and it IS a valeo radiator. Does the valeo radiator on clks manufactured AFTER 903 still have crackingleaking problems with the transmission Should I change mine out Thanks

You should be OK. I have read nothing bad about this topic on post 903 cars. It has been discussed several times here. See this thread httpwww.benzworld.orgforumsw209...problem-2.html

I read that thread and many others but with no CERTAIN information that my valeo radiator is not defective like the others. anyone

MERCEDES BENZ CLK I 208 Transmission fluid leak at radiator

Hey Pancho. Sorry to hear you banged her up but glad it wasnt too serious and you werent hurt. It all depends on where its leaking. As you note its a plastic shell so it may have cracked right at the fitting and its runningdripping to where you see it (there is a metal tank inside the shell that carries the ATF). The only way to know whether you can fix it is to first locate the source. If its at the

Well some good news. Its a Behr. No Veleo here. The leak is at the lower banjo bolt on the front of the radiator on the passenger side. The Upper one was easy to get to--removed the inner grill and the upper radiator support--not a prob. The lower bolt seemed impossible without pulling the bumper cover andor the auxiliary fans but though convoluted I figured out a way to do it without removing the

MERCEDES BENZ CLK II 209 Behr Radiator

Im feeling a little depressed after recently purchasing my 2004 clk500. I usually do my homework when buying a used vehicle and I might have jumped into this one too soon. After reading through the posts my heart sunk when I noticed I have the Valeo radiator. The date on the radiator is 061503 and below the 06 is the number 09. The car currently has almost 127000 miles and runs in my opinion well.

Your radiator has done over 100k miles and is 10 years old. If it was going to fail it would haver done so by now. 2. The problem according to the MB documentation was on vehicles built up to 30092003. After that

From research it looks as Zerex G-05 will work - does anyone concur with that Also my car is a 2004 but it WAS manufactured in 92003 - how can I assure that I have a Behr radiator and not a Valeo radiator Thanks so much Don

MERCEDES BENZ CLK I 208 Valeo radiator How can I tell

How can I tell if the radiator is Behr or Valeo I looked when we viewed a clk320 today and couldnt see any stamps or markings... Any tips

Do a search and you will find details complete with pictures. I just went through this while shopping for my clk. Look down the side of the radiator on motor side where the core (fins) area is attached to the side tanks. You will see the metal strips that join the two together. The Valo will have lots of little fingers that point in toward the middle of the radiator with the ends of each finger bend

MERCEDES BENZ CLK I 208 Bad coolant circulation pump makes radiator fan run constantly on high

Hi everyone I noticed my 2000 clk320s radiator fan ran on full blast (very loud) about 3 seconds after I turned the key to position 2 and stayed on full blast when the car was running (no matter AC on or off) and would only stop when I turn the key to OFF. All fuses are good and the coolant temp refrigerant pressure and temp sensors all seem to work. No engine check light or code. The only AC system

MERCEDES BENZ CLK II 209 RadiatorGearbox problem

Hello We are about to acquire a 320 V6 petrol clk 2004 chassis number WDB2093652F101733 which has had very little use (8000 miles) in as new condition. I have heard some horror stories regarding the radiator leaking coolant into the gearbox (a certain make of radiator) Can anyone advise me as to whether this problem was sorted out by the time this car was made or if it may in fact have the upgraded

Richard - I too have a 2004 clk. I think that you can rest assured that by that year the problem had been dealt with. I read all the comments about the Valeo radiatorgearbox problem here some time ago and counted myself lucky as i was totally unaware of this at my time of purchase. Someone will be able top give you a link to the posts that discussed the problem previously. Or use the Search function kh

MERCEDES BENZ CLK II 209 Coolant Radiator

I was out of town last weekend and the coolant message check level came on. So the next day I added spring water (Deer Park) to top it off. The message disappear. I drove it back home with no issue. I found coolant on the splash guard

MERCEDES BENZ CLK II 209 Valeo radiator different types

Hi all I have a 2005 clk320 with a valeo radiator dated november 2004 . Am I to be concerned about this or did they change the design from Sept 2003 onwards many thanks

Ahh thanks Rudeney. Ive actually done some research im in the uk and found the website www.Valeoservice.com This may help a few people who had the same concerns as me. On this website is the description widths part number etc for all Valeo radiators made and for what cars. I looked at my rad and found the Valeo sticker & took note of all the numbers. One of the numbers on the sticker was RA1035. This

I got the Behr radiator in today so ready to get the Valeo out of the car ASAP I am waiting on the factory CD...anybody have this specific PDF they can post or PM me It looks straight forward but its always nice to triple check everything you are doing. If nobody can is there anything I need to know specifically I am planning to send transmission fluid from the disconnected cooler lines to blackstone

Hi - it would have helped if you had stated which W208 model you are asking about here as they come with many different engines - I guess you probably mean the clk 320. This drawing below from the WIS should cover that. Ignore the steps that are not relevant to your model. Regarding re-filling MB use a gadget to do a pressure fill to eliminate air-locks in the system when a total (engine block) drain

Hi Glenn welcome here - a couple of points. 1. Please add your profile with UserCP at top of the page. It often helps with replies. 2. Typing in uppercase is considered as SHOUTING on these forums. Most of us dont do that. 3. We have a very good Search facility here which goes through the archives looking at previous posts. If you use the Advanced Search put W208 and W202 as the forums and radiator

MERCEDES BENZ CLK I 208 Had slight collision - question about radiator fans

Hi Im new to the forum and wanted to get some thoughts on some minor damage. I have a 2002 clk55 with about 60K on it. Love the car but its probably annoyed with me at the moment. I was driving into work today and mildly rear-ended someone. By mild I mean I was barley moving - maybe 5 to 10 miles per hour. MERCEDES BENZ CLK I 208 Help Needed - Replacing Radiator

My radiator cracked and sprung a pin hole leak (during a smog check) on the drivers side on the side near the top of the plastic tank.
