More clues to the puzzle.... Chichi the grey panda is an 85 car. The white panda is 86 and I noticed that it has a small bracket to hold the clutch cable in place. I have now fitted it to chichi and taken a picture for you all to see. Has this bracket been put on all post 86 pandas It would explain that when fiat had first released the panda to the UK clutch cables were snapping left right and centre.
is definately a fault with the clutch mechanism inside the housing so although the stiff clutch cables made the problem worse they probably would be ok if something wasnt jamming inside The bracket has helped too and keeps the cable running through the centre...which brings me on reason 2 of the thread revival.... I borrowed the fixing bracket (in the picture I posted up before) from my other panda
prone to clutch cable failure due to this design of cable. On LHD cars this type worked without problem because the clutch cable was shorter and left the bulkhead in a straight line whereas on RHD cars the cable had to turn through 90 degrees after leaving the bulkhead in order to cross the engine bay thus putting heavy pressure on the white plastic mount each time the clutch was used. After 86 fiat

Cant be as fiddly as replacing clutch cables left right and centre while on the way to work Id say its worth a shot Although fingers crossed the cables still going from when this thread was started Thanks for the info guys I sometimes think I would be lost without this forum Photos on the way Jon Or anyone who has a spare minute a camera and a mk2 panda i guess. clutch cable - ebay 2wd and 4x4 Does this look correct to you They are rediculously cheap if so Its the only cable I have seen available to be honest but I had heard there were other types. Here is a picture from my engine bay Cheers Si Attached Thumbnails   __________________ ChiChi - panda 4x4 Abarth Qing Qing the rescued panda Yzi - Seat Marbella Turbo Rescued 82 panda 45   Quote   16-09-2009
If the one in the picture is not right then it will be the one with the 90 degree metal sleeve which looks like this httpcgi.ebay.co.ukclutch-cable-F...dp3286.c0.m14 . Not sure about 750s but my 92 999 has the latter and the changeover between the cables is by no means neat. Its a simple matter of a visual check. Edit This says 903 cc on it so Id check the Quinton Hazell part no but it LOOKS the same as the cable on my 92 panda.

clutch cable on the 4x4s changed about 1990 iirc so bear this in mind when looking at other pics. Bougainvillea Rosso thanked for this post
for the delay but I could not get a good pic of the cable in BEX and with it being up for sale didnt want to paint the bits that needed highlighted. Anyway now the grey is out from under cover I was able to get the pic I wanted. Imagine there is an engine and gearbox in front od the white line. Thats the way it should run. Again sorry for the delay. Attached Thumbnails   __________________ fiat
Does the cable have a plastic or metal mounting at the pedal end Rgds.

The part number is correct. This cable is for the early Mk2s it being a hang over from the Mk1. VIN number or visual confirmation will be required to establish which cars this cable can be used on. Rgds.
From recolection theres about 6 different clutch cables. Youd be better off finding one that is in good working order plenty about on ebay and classifieds normally.
Hi Emm Am presuming its the 92 CLX on ebay at the moment (not much gets past the auction watch section on here). Maybe ask the seller to send you a photo of the clutch arm and cable might help in sourcing a spare. Good luck with it. David
the cables on post 1988 models are modified and dont break that often question is why has it broke might just be old age but it could be that the clutch is heavy putting extra load on the cable causing it to break if it was that easy to fix then why has the seller not done it as the car would be wort alot more if it was driveable.
Have you gone to a motor factors should be pretty straight forward to get one I fairly certain all pandas before 1992 used the same type of cable with a white plastic bit at the pedal to hold it in the bulkhead. I was lucky as there was a NOS fiat cable on eBay at the time when I needed one.
I have had bits from Brakes International in the past they dont list a price for the panda 4x4 clutch cable so maybe not... worth a call anyway httpwww.brakeparts.co.uk

A small piece fell off when the cable snapped. It was the bit that was in front of the part marked where cable is meant to connect to. I have kept it. Does this thing come with a new clutch cable I wasnt able to move the lever here by hand. What happened before is the clutch pedal would sometimes stick down when the engine was cold. One day It stuck completely and the RAC man said the bolt pivot thing
If you would care to send me a PM with the VIN number of your car I can supply you with the correct part number for the clutch cable. This need not necessarily come from a fiat dealer if a motor factor is cheaper. Rgds.
Right a new cable is in place. Hoping the bearing position is making the clutch relase arm hard to move I pushed down fairly hard on the pedal in the hope of freeing the clutch. (I am worried I may have stretched the cable. But I dont think it is broken because if you pull one end the other still moves a bit. ) Anyway I tightened it up and there is a small amount of movement in the pedal before it
Hello Alan. If we leave aside the LHD models there appear to be three cables listed for 86 to 91 and two for 91 on. I only have three examples here to compare so I cannot give a definitive answer as to interchangeability. Of the two post 91 cables the overall length is the same the only difference appears to be in the size of the eye end at the pedal end. The one pre 91 cable I have here is about four
When I changed the engine and box in the Rat I left the old pedal box in and used the original clutch cable so the length is the same and the gearbox end is the same. Im not in a position to compare the pedal end though. The original engine was an 86 pushrod and it now has a 92 FIRE engine and box. Hope this helps.
