My truck was backed in my driveway (which slants down) so I could move my boat. I was low on gas but not to the point of running out (my 50 miles left warning had just chimed before pulling in). The other day I noticed my power steering a bit low so I added some automatic trans fluid and when I turned on my jeep it started leaking from the steering gear box it has never leaked from there before and now its a pretty bad leak. For some time now Ive been thinking of swapping in a V-8 engine in place of my 4.0L power plant. I hope to start putting a Hemi in mine by mid to late august. not for the tight budget or the faint at heart. parts alone total right now is 7K. I will do all but the welding and exhaust myself. I figure about 8.5K when its wrapped up minus what I can get for my old drive train. MERCEDES BENZ coasting rolling downhill in my 404

Here is my question. My first instinct is to move the gear selector to neutral and allow my 404.0 fire truck to free wheel (clutch out) towards any constriction down the road f-n-r selector in f - seems like it would use less fuel coasting to a stop than braking. So Im going 60 mph and I may roll out for a half mile or more. Far faster than the recommended towing speed and not the recommended positions

or taperd bearings. Now their are bushings so to speak in the syncros I beleive but these can fuse and fail and will not affect anything but that gear. Also the syncros are not in differential motion when driving in gear. As for the pinion. This goes the same as wheel bearings. Over time no matter how well built your truck was 30 yrs ago parts wear.
