BMW SERIES 5 E39 Cooling System Fiasco 81000 Miles

I was driving on the interstate last Sunday and all of a sudden I hear strange noises like something broke into pieces inside my engine. I get off the nearest exit ramp I hear KNOCK KNOCK KNOCK KNOCK and shut it down in a parking lot. I get out of the car and find out that a fan blade has been totally destroyed from the fan. The water pumps bearings went and sent debris flying everywhere. I had to

BMW does not make water pump. Another company makes it for BMW. (Very much like spark plugs Bosch or NGK is the OEM supplier). What I dont understand is the volvo 850S-V70 series Water Pump runs way into 150-200K without leak. You can see in the volvo forums that it is very rare for their waterpump to go before 140-160K. The volvo people love HEPU brand. I currently use HEPU WP in my bimmer and love

BMW SERIES 5 E39 Belt Replacement Mishap

Guys I think I created a bigger problem while trying to replace the belts in the car. Was trying to replace the AC and Main serpentine belt. Looked online and did not find clear directions on how to remove the fan shroud and fan. I found c90s Diy but he started with after removing the fan shroud. Anyway found Besians instructions and was following those. However when I came to unhooking the clip from

This is uncofrimed but appreantly there is some European government recycle law that says plastic has to be recycled blah blah blah. OK if you build a chair out of recycle plastic but for a car if they decide to use any plastic it should be brand new plastic when used in a cooling system FWIW in the volvo 850 SV70 series the Valeo radiator easily lasts 200K miles. The plastic used in Valeo radiator is probably different grade than the German plastic used in Behr.

BMW SERIES 5 E39 Did I mention that my water pump ceased

I will have to tell you all that when cn90 speaks you outta listen. When I posted about a leak in the upper coolant hose cn90 responded with time to do a complete overhaul of the cooling system. That is sound advice. I had sourced all my parts and put them on the bench for the next opportunity I had to replace everything but unfortunately I had to make a trip to San Diego from Las Vegas before I could

fail at 120-150K. All bearings (wheel bearings alternator bearings wiper motor bearings clutch throw-out bearings clutch pilot bearings transmission bearings aux fan bearings drive belt roller bearings etc.) eventually fail just a question of when. There are people out there very proud that they drive a car with WP into 150-200K..... wow this car is good the WP is still original at 200K (go to volvo

BMW SERIES 3 E46 Service Contracts Are they worth it

Hello - I bought a 2001 325i sport wagon three weeks ago along with a 1500 comprehensive service contract (which the salesman urged me to buy -- for peace of mind) that is valid for one year. The car had high mileage on it -- 172K -- so part of my decision to buy that car was based on the security that the service contract would provide should anything catastrophic fail such as the engine transmission

to the car dealership today explained what happened and they promised to refund me fully for the service contract. Apparently its worth only the paper its laser printed on. My question is Should I shop around for another service contract provider Or should I not buy a warrantee accept that its an older car and that stuff might break or might not I am no stranger to major repairs as I drove a volvo

MERCEDES BENZ 124 124 AC -difference between Manual & Auto Vsn

Hi Guys It has just come to my attention (cause I dont pay attention in class) that you guys all seem to have a different upper switch panel to me. Seems all US models may have come with automatic aircon controls whereas I have 2 rotary control which are manual. So this begs the questions 1) Is the auto (I guess climate control) better than the manual or more prone to failures and 2) what parts apart

i am curious... the ACclimate control on my 1996 volvo 850 wagon has a variable compressor so that it can modulate how much AC cooling you get without having to switch completely onoff this smooths out the hit on the horsepower as well as the temperature inside the car. Do the W124s have a similar system or did Benz adopt something like this in a later model car Ive never bothered to look into how this variable compressor is modulated I dont know if its done in the compressor clutch or what.

BMW SERIES 5 E60 E61 How much can I tow with 535xi

Hi there First post. Looking to buying a new vehicle and the 2008 BMW 535xi wagon is on the short list. Cant find any info on towing capacity though and a search for suitable hitches has so far yielded only the Curt hitch which is rated only for 2000 lbs. We need to tow a minimum of 3500 lb but would prefer up to 4000 lb. The wagon should be capable of these towing weights as our old 96 volvo 850 wagon

Youre right - I made a too-general statement. Certainly most
