VOLKSWAGEN JETTA IV 99 Jetta 2.0 Fuel Problem

Ok heres the deal. I had my 99 jetta 2.0 sitting for about 2 months in Florida when I got here it was dead and below 14 a tank I put a new bat. in it and it ran no problem. I drove it to the store and filled it up with gas and then it shut off. I got a can of starter fluid and it would start only while I was spraying into the tube so I knew it was a fuel problem. I had tripple A bring it to a guys

VOLKSWAGEN JETTA 96 Jetta w no power at fuel pump fuse

Hi all Ive got a tired 96 jetta GL 2.0 that sputtered and died while driving it the other day. fuel was 14 tank coil wires plugs starter battery & dist. cap are newer so I did not suspect these. Noticed I didnt hear the fuel pump. Left it for a couple of days and it started right up but died at throttle. Pulled filter and no fuel from pump. Assumed & installed new FP relay (167) and still no pump

Welcome to the forum. I dont have a wiring diagram for that model. There should be an inertia switch which is fed from 87 on the fuel pump relay. Its a matter of circuit testing with your multimeter. The fuel pump should run for a second or two when you turn the ignition on to prime the system. Some will do this when you open the drivers door. When was the fuel filter last changed if you dont know then change it.

Hi Keith & thanks for the welcome. Unfortunately I get nothing at all at the pump - not even momentarily. Right now Ive got the pump aimed into a bucket and the bucket is dry after numerous ignition turns Ive got no voltage at the pump fuse - is that normal The filter was replaced about 5 years ago. Thanks again

VOLKSWAGEN JETTA over heating fuel pump question

I got an 01 jetta 1.8T and the car stopped running 1 day so I had it towed to the dealer and they looked at it and can up w the problem that the fuel pump overheated. My question is if the pump overheated how comes my wife can drive it everday to work which round trip is around 10 miles. When the problem occurred I drove to school and home around 113 miles then to my parents and it would start when

your sooo close electric fuel pumps can get hot and stop Ive beena service tech for 24 years Ive seen it alot. usually as in 99 % of the time the fuel filter was never changed and the pump is pumping its heart out to get fuel through it these pumps are capable of 120 psi when dead headed but not for very long they get hot and die electrically from the strain. Usually the conclusion is drawn from the

VOLKSWAGEN PASSAT B5 B5B5.5 V61.8T FWD Fuel Filter Replacement w lots of PICS

I replaced the fuel filter on my 98 V6 Passat. Took about an hour and was relatively painless. Figured Id do my first write up since the only one I could find was for a 1.8t and had NO pics (I like pics). fuel filter should be replaced every 60K miles Keep in mind I am not an expert (nor claim to be) and I hold no responsbility for when you work on your car. This write-up is only to help fellow DIYers.

side note to add be sur eto only use an oem fuel filter. cracked open a FF from a third party company earlier today (00 jetta vr6 2.8) and it was the large ol filter thing but had a tiny filter element inside about maybe 2 inches in diameter and a cylindrical height (of the filter inside still) of an inch oh and if you blow towards the direction of flow you can feel how restricted it is. just thought

VOLKSWAGEN JETTA IV 04 GL with accelerationfuel problem

lately Ive been experiencing a weird situation while driving my 04 jetta gl.. Ill suddenly lose acceleration even though my foot is on the gas. its almost like the gas pedal disappears for a minute and then it kicks back in. it happens every time I drive sometimes more than once and I always think its going to finally die but then it kicks back in and everything is fine. I have no indicator lights

I have the same problem. I have a 00 glx vr6 5spd. Ill be driving & everything starts to slow down even when I have the pedal all the way down suddenly it kicks back in & takes off. In my case sometimes my car shuts off. You can try changing the fuel filter(did that & solved the problem temporarily). Me & my cousin think that it might be the throttle body starting to go bad. You can try checking both of those things. If you find a solution b4 me let me know. thanks

Do change the fuel filter. After you havepour a bottle of Seafoam in about a 34 full tank of premium fuel. If that doesnt work its probably something in the ignition system.

I had the fuel filter replaced yesterday and it seems to be running better. The mechanic I went to said it might be the Master Flow sensor() He also said if thats the case sometimes you can just clean it and its fine. Otherwise its a somewhat expensive part to replace. At least thats what I thought he said it might be. He was talking to me from under my car.

VOLKSWAGEN JETTA 1997 Jetta oil in air filter

I recently replaced my air filter and noticed some oil on it. I looked into the tube that is connected to the oil filter and goes to the engine and noticed oil in there as well... Does anyone know what may be causing this Do I need to replace something I have 88000 miles on it and it seems to still run well. Thanks.. This ad is not displayed to registered members. yeah didnt even think of that. i believe the PCV is what lets the gases unspent fuel and whatnot from the motor back into the intake to recirculate via the breather hose. Makes sense that that valve being bad could easily let oil through the lines. shouldnt be a hard fix. good luck

umm.... if you have fuel injected engine it should be attached to a very large black hose on the left or right side of the engine if you have a carburated engine it should be right on top of the carburator in the middle of your engine

VOLKSWAGEN JETTA 1996 Jetta cold start problem

I have a 1996 volkswagen jetta 2.0L with 155000 miles. At times when the engine is cold I have to crank it repeatedly before it will start. SO what your saying is you took a stock radio from a 94 jetta and put it in your car I highly doubt that would have anything to do with it....I have a 2400 watt amp for my sound sytem in my 2000 jetta with no capacitor and I havent gone through any alternators or batteries yet. Unless theres a short or a wiring problem I dont think the radio would cause any problems with your car but I may be wrong.

this sounds a lot like what i was dealing with in my fiances car (2000 jetta 2.0). i changed the fuel filter spark plugs and still had issues. took it to a shop and they ended up swapping out plug wires as well. i suggest doing a full tune up (spark plugs wires fuel filter air filter etc). the most important of those are the plugs and wires. the wires will be most expensive somewhere at least 80. also
