TOYOTA YARIS rear exhaust heat shield

hi guysgals wondering i got a rattle from the rear exhaust heat shield is it safe to remove it or can I use some in between the exhaust and heat shield tried bending it but its pretty firm against the body as it is any ideas oh btw its not a stock rear muffler. thanks

The problem with not having a heat shield is when youre stationary. The heat rising from a hot muffler can damage the paint over time not to mention heating up the inside of the car. Cant you fix the rattle without sticking something between your muffler and heat shield

Do you have a picture of this heat shield I just looked at mine and dont see anything bw the exhaust and the underside of the bumper right above the exhaust.

here is the pic of the heat shield I had to move the muffler to the side so you can see.

TOYOTA YARIS Exhaust heat shield.... vital

Hi all. Just returned from a trip away and on the way home my yaris develops a tinny rattle. A quick inspection underneath shows that the heat shield above the the middle box on the exhaust has come loose. The points on the shield where it bolts to the car have corroded. Is this shield a vital safety measure or am I ok to not get it replaced I couldnt see anything vital it was protecting none of the break lines or fuel lines are in that area.

most aftermarket headers require it to be removed anyway and I have not heard of any horror stories associated with that so Id say go ahead just be careful if you need to stick your hands back there for whatever reason

TOYOTA YARIS heat shield over manifold came loose help

2007 yaris Sedan the heat shield over the manifold in the engine area came loose and rattles on the exhaust only like a cm or 2 free play but enough to rattle The 2 bolts on top are fine and still solid but the bottom 2 bolts I see there I cant figure it out looks like they never held it down in the 1st place unless something else rusted off can anyone shed any light on this for me thanks

actually looks like 4 x 10mm bolts hold the shield down is that correct

If you have some copper house wireing you can strip it down so its bare copper and tie it to manifold with that. Its better to have the heat shield left on.

it is OK to remove the shield but if you get stuck in traffic on a hot day you could get some serious heat damage in the floor. best to get the heat shield fixed or mcgyver your own.

hmm I cant find one of those bolts that hold the shield on for the life of me hopefully I dont have to go to toyota for it P

TOYOTA YARIS Exhaust manifold heat shield Problems. Help

Alright so i have 138k kms on my yaris everything is fine except that squeaky shifter and those rattles.A while ago my heat shield starting tapping on the exhaust manifold (no big deal just annoying) but now i am pretty sure i got an exhaust leak on my manifold somewheres as every time I step on the gas in second and gear it makes this noise like if theres air coming out. My concern is could it

It is no doubt the gasket. This is what mine looked like at 143K. httpwww.yarisworld.comforumsshowpost.phpp613496 Lift up a corner of the car and crawl under. Grab the down-pipe and wiggle it. With the gasket shot it should feel quite sloppy when wiggled.

QFT The bolts usually come out decently easily not particularily long or hard to replace the gasket on a driveway.

TOYOTA YARIS gas tank heat shield fell off

due to all the salt they use here in the winter it went bye bye no way to reattach. what are the risks I see the pipe to one side of the tank hmmm tank looks plastic just dont know how much heat comes from that small pipe especially to the side looks like maybe 4 or 5 inches from pipe to tank in that area

I am not sure how critical it is or if it is there primarily in the event that the exhaust leaks. The list is about 80 for the two pieces which seems a bit expensive.

The gas tank heat shield is REQUIRED. Our gas tank is made of plastic and without the shield you run the risk of it melting. I was told this the last time a piece of my shield fell off (which actually does make sense and didnt seem like dealer speak for ).

...our manifold is plastic.....BUT there is always a risk right Quote Originally Posted by devinlamothe The gas tank heat shield is REQUIRED. TOYOTA YARIS Heat shield buzzing from exhaust

The main heat shield under the cats is buzzing like mad after a hard corner or a bump in road sometimes... I have tried to bend it to reduce buzz and to catch it and see where its hitting but can never see any contact with exhaust I found this old post What i found was when doing my Meagn Header install the waffle looking metal heat shield that goes inside the hump where there exhaust piping is run

TOYOTA YARIS part of heat shield fell off

great now a small piece of the heat shield by the gas tank fell off (about foot long) due to corrosion of the shield and the bolt that holds it on I swear they made it of tin foil it feels very flimsy any harm in leaving it off not that it can go back its all corroded lol

Ive never known anyone myself included to replace a &% heat shield.

TOYOTA YARIS General Warning and Fuel Tank Heat Shield

General Warning To those of you who own the 3dr LB take care on wet roads and driving in rain. Wife and I were driving home from Iowa down I-35 during a nasty downpour the other day doing roughly 65. Well long story short lost control car did 1 360 on my side of I-35 continued into another 360 though the median and finished up in the left lane of oncoming traffic. Yeah it sucked. So it seems these

Yeah not made for off roading.

Thanks for the heads up 2300 lb car is great on gas but gotta be careful

Im still wondering what very low speeds and doing roughly 65 are doing in the same description. ANY car will hydroplane and the stock tires (RE92s) have a reputation for it whether deserved or not. Dont get me wrong there is PLENTY of sympathy behind those words - my wife nearly totalled herself and 4 kids in 87 by hydroplaning our car and 2 others were totalled wife with pelvis bust in 3 places. Not fun even if no damage done but plain scary.

This is my first small car so very low speeds on a highway in rain is 65mph. My old car was an Impala and I could go through rain without stopping. I just didnt adjust my speed for the small car. One of those things you dont think about until it happens.

TOYOTA YARIS Anyone else get a heat shieldexhaust rattling from under the car

I keep getting this slight rattling or squeek sound from under the car and it sounds like the heat shield or somewhere along the lines of exhaust. It seems to squeek a little more when I put it into gear then when its in N or P. My guess it does that because the idling is a little bit different so it would cause it to squeek more or less.

I dont think its so much the cable vibrating but has that squeek sound like when there is loose exhaust or heat shield. It might might very well be that cable but Im leaning more towards the other .

someone posted a couple days ago that it was a TSB regarding the shifter cable toyotas fix was to put a zip tie around the cable or something to that effect Ill see if I can find that post.

I have actually had my heat shield rattling on my exhaust...The sound is definitely not a squeak it sounds almost like a small hole in the muffler. Just jack it up and look-

TOYOTA YARIS Exhaust rattle (not a heat shield)

So I get this exhaust rattle at low rpms 5-600rpm at idle with engine at normal operating temp I went to a garage lifted the car. Removed 2 loose heatshields and the rattle was still present We managed to get rid of the sound by pulling downwards the 2 brackets that support the exhaust with rubber It seems like the sound is was coming from the inside of the car which doesnt seem to be damaged (no scratches

Its not the transmission cable rattling is it

Havent checked that out But the sound is more like metal Like you would hit a glass with a spoon slightly S Only does it when engine is at low rpm

when you fiend out let me know my 08 hatch back dos it too

found the problem it was the doughnut gasket right after the header it was so thin that it was vibrating at the connection where the 2 bolts with the springs are vibration was going trough all over the exhaust pipe
