TOYOTA YARIS passenger airbag light problem (NOT stuck on)

Hello. Ive had my 2010 yaris for about 5 days now. The passenger airbag light is confusing me. When I start the car all of the passenger lights (airbag on off and seatbelt) come on and then turn back off so I know the lights themselves work. When someone sits in the passenger seat the airbag on and seatbelt light come on as expected. When no ones sitting in the passenger seat theres usually NO lights

Ahhh. That kind of makes sense because I realized that the time I saw the airbag off light intermittently turning on and off my bag was in the seat. Although I think the one time I saw the airbag off light stay on consistently my rail-thin girlfriend was in the seat. I guess she needs to gain some weight.

Do you have anything at all on the passenger seat When I have a gallon jug of water on my seat it senses it may be a baby and turns the airbag off light on.

TOYOTA YARIS Passenger Airbag Question

Today I was driving my wife home from work in my 2009 yaris hatchback and something happened with the passenger airbag. The light indicated the airbag was on then all of a sudden the light indicated the passenger airbag was off. She unbuckled and rebuckled the seat belt and the airbag was switched back on again. Can anyone explain what caused the passenger airbag to turn off Any ideas RedStickHam

Thanks much for the note. Ive tried to test for continuity across the two circuits for the airbag SQUIB terminals. I found that there was some type of short in the old clock spring which I replaced but I cant find any short across the new replacement clock spring. Ive tested continuity on the pins in the actually air bag itself and theres continuity across the pins. Does that mean that theres a short in the airbag assembly itself Thanks for your help out there. Quote Originally Posted by CTScott See this thread for instructions on how to clear the DTC. Is the new one a yaris one or is it from some other toyota (also is it OEM or an aftermarket one) If everything checks out OK through the clock spring you should also check for continuity between the 4 airbag wires at the steering column to their other end at the SRS ECU (you have to pull the center console to get to it just under the bottom of the AC controls). The four wires (yellowblack yellow yellow-red

TOYOTA YARIS 08 Yaris Passenger airbag off with seat belt light blink

Thanks for the prompt reply. I will give it a check at noon when it is not freezing cold outside. It is -34 C and -50 C with windchill in Winnipeg. I just used OBDII scanner and found no error code but the airbag warning light is solid on in the cluster panel.

You would need a toyota specific scanner to read the SRS codes.

Thank you CTScott The problem is gone. When I check the two connectors on the passenger occupancy classification ECU (underneath the passenger seat) the bigger was a tiny bit of loose. When I push it in a little bit I hear a click sound. Then the problem solved. Thanks for the accurate diagnosis and prompt advices

TOYOTA YARIS airbagpassenger seat belt light(s)

hi guys i have a question is there any way to reset the airbag lights on the dash (red dash light & yellow passenger airbag off) does it have to do with a tripped airbag sensor even though no airbags were deployed and also the passenger seat belt light flashes even when someone is sitting in the seat with the seat belt plugged in . can i do it with a scanner tool or is this a bring to the shop deal

Those lights flashing indicate that the passenger occupant classification system is not happy. check the grey and black connectors that plug into the little module mounted to the bottom of the front of the passenger seat.

okay ill report back here tom haha

damn no luck i unplugged them and the re plugged them . i doubt disconnecting the battery would do anything either i might try the scanner with my buddy

TOYOTA YARIS Passenger airbag light on making turn signals and cabin fan not blowing

Not sure where the best place to post this was. Title says it all. If someone is sitting in the passenger seat the airbag light turns on and all of a sudden my turn signals no longer work and my cabin air fans dont turn on. Asked my fiance to get up and let the airbag light turn off and suddenly the turn signals work again but the fans still dont blow air out. strange problem. anyone else had this or know of a solution to this Thanks

I thought it was normal for the passenger airbag light to be on when someone was sitting in the passenger seat. Mine has come on from Day 1. I also have the passenger airbag light off light that comes on when I have something small in the seat like a jug of milk. I suppose it thinks theres a baby in the seat not a jug of milk.

it is normal for it to come on but I am just saying the problem only occurs when I put stuff in the seat heavy enough to trigger the airbag light or someone is sitting there. Ive checked all of my fuses and nothing is blown. Im going to look for a loose ground somewhere.

The passenger airbag indicator is driven from the 10A GAUGE fuse. That same fuse supplies the control side of the relay for the blower motor. That fuse is in the under the bottom of the dash fuse panel.

My concern is with the passenger airbag. In the event of a crash where does it deploy I just dont want my mod to get in the way of safety. Thanks for any help you can give me.
