MERCEDES BENZ CLASS G 20034 G-Wagon vs. Range Rover

First let me say I am glad I found this site it looks like there are plenty of devoted fans and owners. I grew up around Mercedes Benz and have personally owned 4 Benzes over the last twenty years -- I am a happy Benz Customer. I have minimal off road experience but will be getting into the sport to better appreciate my new purchase. Enough about me onto my dilemma. Later this year I am in the market

happy Benz Customer. I have minimal off road experience but will be getting into the sport to better appreciate my new purchase. Enough about me onto my dilemma. Later this year I am in the market for a new vehicle to replace my aging 1992 E-class. For various reasons I am looking into the ever popular SUV (yes I realize the G-Wagon is not an SUV). I have got it narrowed down to the G-500 or the range

MERCEDES BENZ CLASS G G-Class vs. Range Rover

A fun game my father and I play is to count the Gs we see in the hamptons on a weekend. This weekends near record-breaking 11 (12 isa the record) included two cabrios. But thats not the point. In looking for Gs all I seemed to see are new range rovers I would say theres 5 rovers per G. Is there any reason why this is happening Perhaps these poor sales figures is the cause of a re-design ( Nevertheless

I have driven range rovers for over 20 years and have owned or leased the last three models. When the lease was up on my 2003 RR (current model) I changed to a G500 and have not regretted it for one second. The current range rover is too big and too soft - just another giant North American soccer mom SUV. Im sure that it is capable off-road under the right conditions - I didnt take mine seriously off-road

BMW SERIES 5 E39 530 for Range Rover

I was thinking about trading my 01 530i sport for a 01 range rover. Any thoughts or personal experience with the rover

I have had 3 range rovers. Two being the classics and one P38. Unless you plan on doing the service yourself want to spend more money for parts than you think you should and deal with butthole dealer parts depts Id keep the 530. Now with that said I had a 95 SWB classic County that was the best overall and gave me great service. The P38 was a piece of sht. Even if BMW did own them during that time

MERCEDES BENZ CLASS G G500 vs. New Range Rover

I recently got screwed out of my place second in line at a major dealership for the G500 I waited 11 months for. Now I am told I am 8 and looking at March-April. While I admit owning a G is exclusive and was a goal of mine I have been forced to consider alternatives. In May I could get the new rover which was completely redesigned by BMW during their brief ownership of LR. For those of you who are

Go with the G. My LRs were 89 classic 93 D110 two 97 D90s one 97 rover SE. All but the 110 had electrical issues. The 97 range rover had most of the computer boxes replaced over 3 years...some twice. If you go with the rover get the extended warranty...I got my moneys worth every time.br br Not surprisingly the best of the lot were the older simpler ones...the 89 and the 110.

BMW SERIES 6 Range Rover Sport Owners

Ok Ive noticed a few of you guys have added a range rover Sport to your stables. Im thinking of doing the same and was hoping to get your insights into the truck. Im looking at the Supercharged version but any insight into the truck as far as comfort features daily drivability etc. is greatly appreciated. Thanks guys SLM

Heres my 2 cents I first had a full size RR (4.4. 300 hp) then traded for a RRS Supercharged. Engine wise its not a fair comparison but the RRS handles superbly even cornering at high speeds. The steering is very tight you still have that famous command driving position (which only LR and a Gwagon can offer) the brakes are superb the wheels are amazing and the exhaust emits a deep satisfying growl.

You know i drove one of these a few weeks ago. I was affraid of all the horror stories of owning a range rover. My boy had one... engine Blew. Another Friend of mine boout the sport and his tire pressure light is on. Said the dealer told him it was reding the spare tire... WTF Everyone I talk to about getting one says dont do it. Consumer Rerports Dogged it out. Althogh the sport is a hot looking SUV

AUDI Whats the price range for 2002 S4

Hi everyone I just wanted to get peoples opinions on what the current fair market value would be for a low miles 2002 S4 withNO modifications in excellent condition. By low miles I mean between 30-40k original miles. Im getting rid of my old 2000 range rover gas guzzler - its just killing me as a commuter car with these gas prices (I drive at least600 miles per week for work). What kind of average

Unreliable expensive heavy inefficient shape inefficient thirsty engines looking and feeling 20 years old at the 10 year mark poor resale value. Thats a summary of the common perception of Land rover ( that I share ). It seems like they are slowly digging themselves out of this hole which is great news. We need more good unique relatively independent car brands and its nice to see classic brands getting

MERCEDES BENZ CLASS G OT- Sorry Opinion of LR DiscoveryRange Rover

Sorry for the off-topic post but since the members who frequent this niche in the forum seem to know their stuff when it comes to 4x4s I though I would ask you guys what you think of a 96-00 Land rover Discoveryrange rover. Im asking because I want to upgrade vehicles from my Passat to an SUV and for me a G-Wagen is totally out of the question since im 17 and they cost a LOT However I would take a

you didnt mention reliability but since funds are limited i imagine you care....go japanese... parts are drastically cheaper reliablity is drastically better and you still have plenty of aftermarket options. BMW X5 E70 X5 vs Range Rover Sport

Has anyone compared or looked at the range rover Sport vs the X5 How do they compare as far as ride handling value How about lease rates Thanks in advance. DocBob

This is a one nice thread In my somber view X5D adds a tad of togetherness and a punch while keeping the 500 miles to a refill I guess (please correct if I am wrong) while the RRS adds the macho bigger presenceclassic look air up and down go anywhere with a true 4x4 and low gearing and MPG sucks big time premium only electronics are archaic. The biggest deciding factors I guess are the huge distances

JEEP WRANGLER II TJ Traded my Land Rover for 06 TJ

I just bought my first Jeep. I traded my 2000 Land rover Discovery II on a 06 TJ X. I was a member of a Land rover forum and Jeeps were always bad mouthed. I have to tell you the truth. Land rovers are pieces of . I had nothing but problems. It was ok off road but was always leaking something. All the LR forum members were in denial about the quality and capability of their rigs. Im going to change

perkins you could need a valve job as quickly as 20K to 30K. The engines that seem the best are the ones that were driven hard and never developed heavy deposits of carbon. Land rovers buick 215 base V8 (which LR bought the rights for back in the 60s) is a very durable powerplant and if maintained properly it will certainly last you well over 200K. Ive owned 4 Land rovers ranging from a 94 range

FIAT PANDA Panda 100 a future classic...

My Panda is coming up to the 3 year mark and the loan finishing thankfully. I am going to keep her on as i want to enjoy no loan and the Mazda will need replacement next. Anyway my point... As the 100 seems to be a rare sight on the roads and production seems to be nearing the end does anyone think that the 100 will be a classic Obviously not for a while but i noticed prices are still fairly strong

JEEP CHEROKEE Land Rover Discovery Vs. Jeep Cherokee

So my friend just picked up a 1998 Land rover Discovery. With its leather interior fulltime 4x4 front and rear locking diffs and even its heated seats it seems pretty nice. Now seeing my friend drive this thing and taking a ride in it myself I just cant help but ask the question and get the JF consensus. Which one do you think will fare better Personally I think the Jeep Cherokee would be the choice

Ive actually been quite impressed with my Dads range rover classic. It is a great street vehicle his is no slouch either (5.0 TVR V8). We did have problems initially with the air bags but we have since swapped out to coils without issue.

FIAT PANDA Classic Panda on Top Gear

Saw a trailer on Friday night for the new series of Top Gear. There was a white Panda (looked like a late one) that Clarkson cuts in half and then attempts to drive.......it could be fun but it could be especially if they slag it off

Watching a re-run of top gear today it showed a clip of an armoured panda it was red a hammond was driving it. Think it was a 2005 opening programme there was the range rover sport vs challenger tank and toyota aygo football.

Odd colors and sorry to those that love it but Rescue Green qualifies as an odd color dont age well and tend to become lot queens. Rule number one in the car biz is to avoid trendy colors. Five years down the road the colors no longer work. This doesnt just apply to Jeeps. Porsches and Vettes had to be red or black. range

MERCEDES BENZ CLASS G RANGE FORDBMWROVER launches at a buck or two under G-wagen

At the right time I shall step in and acquire an excellent second car as I have done currently with my 97 RR. (65K new bought for 20K)

Can you say pressed..LR did not expect the G in at its pricepoint. Therefore LR had to undercut MB. I wonder if LR covers brakepads MB does NOT and that is just plain stupid.. Even Audi covers brakepads.. Resale on the rover is going to be an issue. Working out the initial kinks yr. 1 also will be interesting. JEEP CHEROKEE So I got a 98 Classic yesterday for 2900

I got rid of my 06 ranger and got a 98 cherokee that I had my eye on for awhile. Its 2wd but that doesnt bother me I live in NYC and will only use it for camping mostly. It had 2 things wrong with it that were visible The hood had flung open on the highway apparantly and shattered the cowl cover by the wiper arms. No biggy found the part on ebay for 20. The bigger thing the bottom of the driverpassenger

httpimg98.imageshack.usmy.phpimage3540dg9.jpg Thats the dealers picture. Besides the broken cowl cover and that inside door rust the body is perfect. I slapped on some 2357515 Dunlop rover ATs for now (payed 60 each for them) Whats a good cheap little 2 lift to get a little more ride height Its weird going from a 4x4 ranger with a 3 lift to a stock cherokee. MERCEDES BENZ CLASS G You guys are scaring me.

Why do I see so many references to front axle problems and front axle rebuilds being required on a G with only 80000-100000 miles Surely this is not true is it

Wow I never would have thought it. I figure the G axles and the rest of the drive train for that matter would be at least as durable as my old range rover classic. My 89 range rover has gone 200k miles virtually untouched as far as anything serious like bearings or CV joints are concerned. Only driveline repairs ever made were just brake parts... and I mean all of them. No matter what I still just

MERCEDES BENZ CLASS G New to the G wagon.

Okay so i am from canada to start and im looking to sell my current car and finally pick up a real 4x4. But with any new purchase there are the things to consider such as price of vehicle plus budgeting for repairs Choose the right model so to get the most bang for you buck. MERCEDES BENZ CLASS M W164 W164s on Trails

Has anyone moved into a W164 from a W163 and noticed a marked loss of ability on trails. I bought my W163 primarily because the wife and I do alot of mountain biking and Ive been in a spot or two where getting in and out arent always easy. I know the W164s have adjustable suspension and all the computer assists from the W163 but my concern is loss of the mechanical low range. Id hate to have buy a

The w163 is more capable than most would give it credit for. That said the LR3range rover Sport and range rover are much more capable. My wife drives the ML320 and I run a 91 range rover classic and most everything Ive seen MLs take on I could have done with my stock 17 year old range rover anytime now with a little work she has be come very capable. a MB diesel in to my old Land rover... I thought about doing that myself. The problem is the shape of the sumpoilpan. In the Land rover engines Perkins diesels with the Milner kit Chevy small block VM diesel etc etc the oil scavenger is at the rear of the engine. In Mercedes engines it tends to be at the front. This will cause the sump to bash on the front axledifferential of a Land roverrange

BMW X6 E71 E72 Jeremy Clarksons review of X6.

My box is leaking badly and Im giving this stuff a try before purchasing a durango box.

When I had Land rovers they were famous for leaking power steering boxes and pumps. I used it on my 94 range rover classic 97 Discovery Series I and my 97 range rover 4.6HSE (Vitesse Model). It worked no questions asked I went from a puddle under my rovers to nothing and the fluid level never went low after that.
