MERCEDES BENZ SLK R171 Bad batch of steering angle sensors

I have just had the steering angle sensor replaced in my 350 for the second time. Apparently there are a couple of bad batches of these sensors. Some went into cars as they were built and some are in the spare parts chain. Those of you who have had their sensors replaced may not be clear of this fault. This fault is the one that brings up the message warning the ESP is not working the tyre pressure warning system not working (if you have that option) and the speedtronic not functional.

MERCEDES BENZ SLK R171 Australia Fair

Aus slk drivers I am interested in two accessories - the bonnet fins and the chrome front fin covers. I phoned my dealer and this is what they told me 1. Chrome radiator fin covers - A387 (set) - 4 sets in Australia. 2. Slk 55 bonnet fins - A370 per side A740. Need to order from Singapore () Apparently they come complete with a new air intake grill - a waste since you have one already. I think this

MERCEDES BENZ SLK R171 add oil 1100 mi.

At 1100 miles I need oil message came on. Please comment. Dan

Be careful about topping up too much. My car had the same message come up while I was on the way to the dealer to have the steering angle sensor fixed for the second time. They found the oil sensor was also faulty. Apparently there are bad batches of oil sensors and steering angle sensors.

MERCEDES BENZ SLK R171 Another SLK with defective ESP

Chalk up another SLK with the ooold ESP defective trick. [)] At just under 8000km (in 6 weeks) I started getting an ESP Defective Visit Workshop malfunction message on the dash display. Like others who have reported this previously the service department diagnosed it as a faulty steering angle sensor. Theyve ordered a new one and will replace it when it arrives in a coupla weeks. Since this is the

MERCEDES BENZ SLK R171 Rumour is the Tire pressure sensor is in all cars whether you ordered it or not...

It appears from a posting over on Torstens board that the Tyre pressure sensors may be on all vehicles whether you ordered this option or not. So therefore it could be activated via the Star Diagnostic System in the same way as the Rain Sensing wipers

Its not actually a sensor as such - the ABS and traction control sensors monitor the rpm of each wheel - this combined with the steering angle sensor allows the system to decide if one wheel has got reduced pressure - i.e. the circumference is less so rpm goes up - then informs you your pressure is reduced therefore ALL slks must have it built into the firmwhere - Im just not sure where it informs

MERCEDES BENZ SLK R171 ESP and Speedtronic Gone at 670 KM

OK guys tell me this is normal Tried shutting off the engine and restarting no help. The service guy confirmed that once these messages show up on the screen they will not go away until the car is serviced. I continue to hope that I will get 10000 KM out of this car before I sell it.....

There have been numerous reports of defective steering wheel angle sensors in this forum over the past 6 months.

of the impact and so on. The deployment algrorithm is likely to be complex and based mainly on deceleration sensors. If it didnt deploy then it probably wasnt supposed to. However all this is a somewhat irrelevant point if a seatbelt was not being worn. Airbags are designed around restrained occupants. The effect would be unpredictable with unrestrained occupants. For example an airbag on a steering
