KIA MAGENTIS I GD 01 Optima stalls after refuel

I have a 2001 Kia optima that stalls after I fill it up at a gas station. after I floor the gas pedal and force the engine to stay on it stutters and loses power for 1-2 minutes and then drives well until the next refuel. (No CEL) Also my gas gauge reads 34 full after I fill it up. I try to add more fuel but the pump just cuts off imediately. I dont know if the two problems are related. I am taking

Welcome to the forum It could be a faulty ORVR valve causing the fueling issue. Also if the fuel gauge isnt accurate the fuel level sensor may be on its way out. They can work intermittently. I replaced one on a Sorento the other day it worked fine until you got around 12 a tank. Upon removal of the part you could see the burn marks on the sensor.

Thanks I was told it could be a purge valve stuck open. Does that sound like a possibility Unfortunately I know very little about the fuel delivery system of a vehicle. One further question- I will be taking this car across the country do you think this could cause further damage to the car

the charcoal canister is saturated and your ORVR valve is allowing liquid fuel to get into the evap emissions system. a stuck purge valve doesnt have anything to do with your problem. change your charcoal canister and ORVR valve. as for the fuel level your sending unit is shot. if you take it out youll be able to see where the segments are scratched off.
