MERCEDES BENZ CLASS V 6382 vito brake lights - relay

Hi Both my rear brake lights are not working (not ideal) - it is deffinitly not the bulbs pretty sure it isnt the switch and my friend tells me he had something similar with his VW and it turned out to be the relay. Only problem is I have no idea which relay controls the brake lights (if indeed there is one). It is a RHD 108D 1998. Any help would be appreciated. Kev

Are your normal lights working

What vito do you have If you have a W638 then it could be a relay. Things are a little more complicated in the W639 as its all controlled by the signal aquisition module (SAM) Adam.

Thanks for the advice - the switch looks fine (I actually bypassed it and it still didnt work). Im not too sure about which type it is - I know it as a 108D - made in 1998................. looked under the seat next to the battery and it appears to have several small black boxes there - I think these are relays - but obviously I have no idea which one is which to try and replace one...........

I got exactly the same problem. Where could the relay be located and how can I distinguish it (right now there is no brake lights brake swich and all other lights are working and when I checked brake wires from brake swich there is voltage in these wires 05V and when I measured amperage there was 06A current...strange)

MERCEDES BENZ CLASS V 6382 Vito preglow and alternator lights came on.

This is my first post here so Hi everyone Ive got a 2008 vito v6 120 the other day the engine light came on while returning from a long journey the power also reduced the next morning I started it up and the preglow light stayed on shortly after startup the alternator light came on. I tested the voltage to see if alternator was charging and it comes up to 14.6v so it is. According to one thread on

Right i will see what i can do you cannot remove the dpf without having it deleted first in the ecu via a star machine it will cause limp mode because the pressure sensors will detect a fault in the exhaust pressure if only life was that simple and it will still try to regenerate which can be a bit dangerous as the exhaust gets very very hot. P0600 could be caused by your scanner because it is a communication

I am wondering if you have a bad connection somewhere in the wiring it could even be the main connector to the ecu it would be interesting to go around the van moving wires and see if it suddenly comes back but i would still check the main loom where it passes over the turbo first to see if there is any sign of it rubbing through. I just had a thought i wonder if there is a short to earth on the heater

MERCEDES BENZ CLASS V 6382 lights not working on vito (99)

my brake light blew on my 108 vito (1999) and when i changed it something blew and now my side lights in the front brake lights and red rear lights dont work iv tested for power and there is none to the lights iv replaced all the bulbs and the fuses under the pasenger seat is there any other fuses anywhere else or have i shot something else

Ahhh.. Your lighting fuses are under the steering wheel in a little pod its fairly obvious which panel to remove. A quick look in your user manual will tell you what they are used for. Some vitos also have a fuse panel in the passenger side footwell. If you replace your fuses and then it goes again then you might have a short. I would start with your brake light first - so remove the rear light cluster

and have a squint behind. Sometimes moisture gets in behind there. If you have a towbar fitted then check the electrics there too. The connections and relays are usually stuffed unceremoniously behind the nearside (left hand side as you look forwards) rear light cluster which is where the lighting normally run. Good luck electrical faults are a bith to find. Adam. I had the same problem - mercedes

Hi I dont know if you have resoled the problem but it could possibly be a relay problem... they can act up sometimes.. & give similer effect as just a fuse has gone. Dont kniow if this helps but another possibility

MERCEDES BENZ CLASS V 6382 Vito 2004 Starter Relay

Hi new on here and after some advice My 54 plate vito has just developed a starting problem the ignition turns on and lights all come on as they should but will not crank (fire starter motor) Ive tried the spare keys check all the fuses swapped the relays in the fuse board and all seems ok I have checked the starter motor by putting a direct feed to the solenoid and with the key in the cranked position

MERCEDES BENZ CLASS V 6382 vito 110cdi Glow plug light fixed

Hi just thought Id share this one. Having bought my 2001 vito a couple of weeks back the glow plug light on the dash would stay on for approx a minute after starting which by all accounts means a glow plug faulty or relay faulty. I took the relay off & the big red wire & terminal at the bottom looked ok but when flexed different ways thru trial & error I got the light to stay off . I cut about 2 inches

Which relay was it mate as I dont have a workshop manual Mine has the same problem. And its in limp mode not sure if the glow plug thing is related Any pics or info on the relay location would be great.

Hi it was the relay in the engine bay close to the washer bottle. It has two multiplug connectors going it to it & the red thick wire going in at the bottom. mine never went into limp mode well actually it does as soon as you started the car & tried to rev it wont go past 3k but as soon as the clutch is pressed its normal again. I think (maybe corrected tho) that that is the way its supposed to be. Yours seems a different problem hopefully someone else may be able to help. I actually typed vito glow into the search aengine & read every post (took ages but well worth it)

MERCEDES BENZ CLASS V 6382 vito 110cdi wont crank unless glow plug lights on

my vito 110 cdi wont start unless the glow plug light comes on (you can hear the relay click in the engine bay) iv checked the batstarter motor there both working fine they were new in September anyway... when you turn the key the van does nothing i have to turn it about 20 ish times then the glow plug light clicks on then it starts.. then i turn it off staright away to try again & it either happens

MERCEDES BENZ CLASS V 6382 Vito dash light stays on

My 108cdi clockodometer light stays on constantly have read about others with this problem and no results. Its only the 1 light not the whole dash cluster that stays on. The fog light switch works perfect and every thing else works fine no automatic lock system just the basic key lock system which I really dont use. Is there a timer relay for just this one light and if so where is it located and is

Nothing to do with locking system...is there a timing modul or relay for the dash light system

Mine has no central locking either just the basic key lock and my interior light functions like it should so I agree that there has to be a timing relay or switch but looking for where and how to access it my only other alternative is to just pull the bulb and go without but this doesnt solve the issue.

MERCEDES BENZ CLASS V 6382 Vito 108 CDi Glow plug light on & wont go over 70mph

Hi folks glow plug light is constantly on & wont rev over 3000rpm or go over 70mph once warmed up...any ideas no other warning lights 200151 plate Cheers

Hi ya and welcome as Matelot says you are in limp mode so its a matter of finding what is causing it. The glow plug light has nothing to do with limp mode the light is staying on because you have either a duff glow plug or a problem with the wiring or relay. You dont need the glow plugs on the cdi engines so unless it is a wiring issue i would ignore it because they can be a real pain to fix and change.

plug light off again....until tonite came on & stayed on.....and yet again....if you look further down the fan housing to the nearside of the fan...the is another block connector...with what looks like a main live feed & negative wire....live connecter is yet again corroded away.... i shall win against this van.... lol.....will update soon with photos.....this will invaluably help anyone with a vito

MERCEDES BENZ CLASS V 6382 vito rear fog light fault

vito 110cdi 2002the rear fog lights will only come on with the front fogs. when switched to rear fogs onlylight does not worki have renewed the switch problem not cured.the only relays i have found are under the ns seat but i cant get them out to swap around to check if this is the problem(stuck inwill probably break them getting them out)any ideas please

MERCEDES BENZ CLASS V 6382 vito glow plug & EDC light on

Hi all i have a vito 110 cdi 52 reg (old shape) it has the glow plug light on all the time i have changed them all but its still on also the EDC light on to. it used to go like stink but since this EDC light came on it has no pull and wont rev past 3000 revs hope someone can help thanks kev

I changed my vito rad today and afterwards the glowplug light stayed on found that the glow plug relay earth wire clamp had corroded away not sure if this would cause edc to come on but might be one thing to eliminate .

MERCEDES BENZ CLASS V 6382 Interior light in a 113 Vito

Hi Help My interior light will not come on when either of the front doors are opened the light works if you move the switch on the light i.e. when you move the switch to the constantly on position etc. But when you move it back to the position it should be in so the light comes on when the front doors are opened all I get is darkness. Can anyone can shed some light on my problem please (pardon the pun) Cheers - Benz Bling

Hi Benz Bling You have obviously taken the door pins out of the front door pillars and cleaned up the contacts and area around the screw which earths the circuit out when the doors are opened. The switches complete a circuit energising a relay under the passenger seat which turns on the interior light. Make sure you can hear the relay switching when when you open the doors if not check substitute relay. Regards ZX9

Just gone outside and checked with a meter on the connector behind the combined interior and map reading light. There are three wires Brown - constant earth used when switching the lamps on using the switch on the unit. Brown white stripe relayed earth used by the door pins to ground circuit via relay and red yellow 12V Therefor two different earths one good (local light works from switch) other poor(light not working from door pin) Regards ZX9

MERCEDES BENZ CLASS V 6382 vito relay help please

Hi Im looking for some help please. I need to locate the electric window and rear windscreen wiper relays. I have a x reg 110 cdi.

the wiper relay should be inside the rear left hand (uk nearside) body panel.... it can be in the upper section of a van but should be in the lower section (the side panel behind the lights).... access by pulling trim panel off the inside. rear window openers (flap type rear windows) relays is normally under the front left hand (passenger) seat... note relays are not always used on the motor controls

MERCEDES BENZ CLASS V 6382 2003 Vito 112 Foglight Relays

Have vehicle back after replacement of Intercooler Radiator etc. Have found front fog lights OOS. Globes test OK Fuse OK where to go to next Can anyone shed light on which relay is involved Thanks in advance. A wiring diagram would be tops. Rob K

Check the wiring connections inside the front wings bit of a bitch to get had similar trouble with dip lights a couple of years ago electrical connection spray done the job for me.

Thanks for the reply. Ive crawled all over this machine however I cannot track down which relays are related to the lights. Globes OK Fuse OK however not juice at the fuse or globe socket. My REST heater is also not circulating coolant so Im wondering if there is a common supply gone. Regards Rob K

MERCEDES BENZ CLASS V 6382 Vito 109 need help with lights

Howdy all. I purchased this 109 a year ago i noticed not long after the offside front foglight and mainbeam lights wernt working the indicator on the dash confirmed it. so i fitted new bulbs and re tested much to my dismay still not working so me being a long serving spark thinks no probs check the fuses no fuses. So im assuming they are run directly from the ecu. i have checked the ground to the lamp

I dont know about the 109 but on the 108 there are 2 relays under the steering column that control the lights if your has them too perhaps ones failed

On my vito 118 the dipped beam on the drivers side (uk) ceased working - checked bulbsconnector but no joy. Eventually found blown fuse - 3rd down on Right Hand fuse block in streering column 15amp blown - replaced it and lamp now works. Also central locking had ceased working but after i had removed and replaced black box that carries fuses on steering column - removed and reseated green relays (neither

MERCEDES BENZ CLASS V 6382 Vito 108 engine wont start and glow plug lights not lighting

Hi all This is my first post as only bought my vito today It is a 53 plate with 88k on the clock. Drove it back 100 miles from seller this evening and stopped at a friends house on way back. After having a chat for a few mins I went to restart the vito and it just turned over and wouldnt fire. We tried this a few times and played with the sigma alarmimobiliser according to the manual. During this process

could be wiring fault but most likely the gloplug timer relay has blown.... its common on all vito models (in fact on all diesels from all manufacturers) replace it

The high mounted stop lamp works but the brake light in the side clusters dont. I have changed the fuse and I dont believe it is the switch because as I said teh HMSL works ok. Any ideas Could be relay or something Thanks

MERCEDES BENZ CLASS V 6382 Vito 1996 Fog light switch

I have had a problem with battery losing charge over a couple of days parked up. On investigating a bit I have noticed that my fog lights switch which is like a rocker switch with an up position a down position and a central position central being off. But In the central position it is very sensitive (faulty)and sometimes gives me the audible lights on tone when I remove the key. So for a quick fix

Hi I get the tone in middle or up position I have to have mine down for off but to your question if you get the tone with wire disconnected then you either have a short in the wiring or a sticky relay Dan

dash -- dead easy to remove and believe it or not this is the official MB method.... the dimness is probably the wrong bulb fitted (common)... but have you adjusted the dimmer... ignition to pos 2 or running - buttons in top of instrument cluster with lights on press and should get brighter.. - gets dimmer but whether it works depends on spec of vito when manufactured (everything is an option) removing

MERCEDES BENZ CLASS V 6382 Vito 108 cdi Immobiliser

Im having some issues finding the immobilizer in that I cant find it. Is it supposed to be behind the dash cluster on the drivers side (RHD) sliding in a little bracket because if it is I have a piece of foam block there with a plug nearby that is black and square. Also my key doesnt look like it has a chip in it. So would it be likely that my vito doesnt have an immobilizer in it I need to find these to send it away for repairsdiagnostics. Thanks Stevie

MERCEDES BENZ CLASS V 6382 vito 108D electrical woes

Im having a niggle with my vito. This is a prehistoric 1997 with few electrics and proper fuel pump etc NOT a CDI. Sometimes it will lose all electrical power to anything that runs through the ignition. Glowplugs dash indicators horn brake lights etc etc However when it does fault it is sometimes cured by flipping the ignition on and off. The engine (when running) is obviously unaffected. The headlights

MERCEDES BENZ CLASS V 6382 vito 638 towbar wireing

hi ive just fitted new towbar to my vito 2002 travleliner just wondering where to conect the eltricts ive found loon on underside lhrh side runs along rear panel im wondering if the loom has a plug in conection i dispise those scotch locks those things are a bodge i would like to solder and heatshrink if i need to piggyback of the loom

best bet it to track down a relay from a wrecker. This relay has all the switching that works the trailer lights. This is where the plug wires connect to. It gets power from the battery through a dedicated circuit that runs under the van to the rear and then follows the other wires into the rear section. It will be located behind the interior panel(cardboard) rear LH side in the load area. The vito

MERCEDES BENZ CLASS V 6382 going to view buy a Vito 108 cdi what should I look out for

Hi guys This is my first post here but Ive been reading posts for a fair while and thought Id sign up to join in the discussions. Im going to view a 2001 vito 108 cdi van tomorrow and was just wondering if you guys had any advice as to what in particular to look out for Cheers Chris

Other things to check for clunks on take-off due to worn tie bar bushes and check the engine runs up to temp OK seen a few thermostat problems in 8-9 year old vehicles (cheap fix). Also check the glow plug light goes off after a few seconds and the engine fires easily or you could be looking at plugs and possibly a relay.
