Greetings from down under. I am new to MB but looking forward to years with a 113 vito Van my son acquired last week. Very comfortable to drive and powerful enough to climb us through the steep winding dirt roads of banana fields and dairy country from Coff Harbour to the inland of New South Wales Australia. We have been fortunate to discover a number of problems like non-operating wipers stuck doors

I have a 113 99 petrol vito get a bright torch and look from under neath to the rear of the block sounds like from either the oil pump or up towards the timing chain tensioner (back of the block) or from around the oil pump. Best thing I guess to do would be to get a couple of good cans of aerosol degreaser and spray the back of the engine and surrounding areas clean and monitor where the leak is coming

Hi can anyone help me I am in the middle of replacing the water pump on my 2000 W-Reg vito 112CDi. I have removed all of the retaining bolts except the one beneath the idler pulley at the back of the pump. How do I get at this one its obscured by the pulley Do I remove the pulley if so how I cant see how its fixed except maybe from behind it with a bolt through the waterpump casting but I cant see

Hi all At work we have a 2005 109CDI vito and are talking about the oil on the turbo. How is the turbo lubricated And are we supposed to check something when we check the rest of the fluids I have recently changed the brakepads including the sensorwires. Now the problem is that the warning light will not turn of the (O). I thought it would just turn off when I changed the pads and wires but it didnt. I have checked the wires they are connected right. Update No faults code coming up possibly communication problem. Gear been checked by Automatics specialist he drained the oil looking for evidence of faults the oil looks and smells good no particles. He says the Hydrolic pump is a bit rattly but he dose not want to change it only to find that the limp mode is still there. Not sure what to do next. Any recommendations

i do all my own work on my 108d. Its a very simple engine. As for which run on SVOWVO - well all diesel will run on this - but it depends how much you want to modify and how much you want to risk. Lowest risk is to do more mods and fit a kit (like i have in the chip fat diaries) or you can run a blend of addititive diesel and veg oil with no kit involved. ALternatively you can just pour in your oil

Just been talking to customs & excise. It is now LEGAL to use veg oil in a diesel with NO TAX to pay..... Provided you use less than 2500 litres a year. GHi i have read through the various discussions on this. I have a 1998 2.3D vito. I just wanted someone to advise. Can i run this on straight vegetable oil with no modifications and will this be okay if i occasionally add a bit of diesel to the tank. You can get away with running them with a small amount of petrol in the diesel and some people do it on purpose anyway. Having the 2 stroke in it would have also aided matters as the problem with diesel over petrol is the lack of oil content for lubricating the pump which causes damage. You will find a lot of people will poo poo what i have said and tell you that you have wrecked your engine and diesel

OKits not the sturdiest of Vansbut I use mine in the Lebanon daily with an average of 2500 kms monthly on some really bad roads.. Im after some tips on doing the auto filter and oil change on my 115CDI 2006 vito. It has the 722.682 NAG1 5 speed auto. Studying the WIS shows me its quite straight forward. The only slightly tricky bit is flushing the lines to the oil cooler and the thermo control valve. Hi went out for some work on Easter Monday and backing into my storage shed noticed a significant leak from under the engine bay... Upon towing it to an auto trans specialist (didnt seem to be coolant or engine oil) the next day was told the main seal on the front of the transmission was gone. But they didnt have the facilities to do the extent of work that was required removing all the enginebox etc.

Update 5 weeks at the mercedes dealer and not much further along. Transmission and engine were refitted without checking for cause of the seal break. Only to find that of course there was something else wrong with the transmission that may have caused the problem. Tranny is now at Auto specialist and have been advised by dealer that the front cover and pump of the transmission require replacement.

Hi a small bore rubber pipe is hanging below my vito touching the road on investigation I found it wasnt attached at either end. From my experience and what Ive seen from using this forum for a couple of years common vito w638 cdi faults are injectors leaking back fuel pump seals fuel system air leaks turbo vacuum system leaks gear box cable linkage stiff or not engaging certain gears rust. Ive never noticed any increased oil consumption but maybe someone else can comment .

I am having an issue where the car is surging a little at about 50mph and no load on the engine. I also see air coming through the fuel lines at an idle. I do not see any leaks in the supply lines and the O rings. I am thinking it may be the plunger in the fuel pump. Before I bought my Growler I read up on the common problems. On of the first jobs was to replace all the O rings around the fuel filter and injection pump. I used viton replacements since it was my intention to run him on veg oil.

i hear what your saying...but the reason i chose a kit is that i do a lot of miles and therefore relaibility is a must. i am runnign WVO which varies in quality - the kit (since it preheats the oil) allows me to use more of this than I would by just pouring in WVO as it enables me to burn the thicker stuff that would otherwise not get thorugh your filter or would cause clogging. Hello all I have just purchased a vito 113. It has a 1998cc M111 Engine that today I started to strip ancillaries off to find the cure to a Whir ing noise and a constant tapping sound on the top of the engine. I suspected the tapping to be a worn camshaft but after taking the rocker box off the cams look like new bearing in mind this has done 96k they are unworn. If anyone would like pictures feel

It could be a number of things but from what you are telling me that the swirling noise is coming from the crankshaft area I would start to look at the oil pump maybe check your oil pressure it would explain your tapping noise at the top of the engine. Also check that you have 12 volts at the camshaft adjuster we have had a few concerns with them being noisey...it is earthed by the engine control module. Does it have a ME or PMS control module

Hi Ive been running on svo and tried some wvo but obviously this was not filtered properlyso van now crawling up hills etc and noticed bubbles in fuel lines etc. I changed fuel filter twice but still doing it although it runs ok when i put more fresh diesel in for a whileso im going to keep forcing the diesel in hoping this will thin out the veg oil enough to pass through filters etc. Does this engine

Well The van is going and I finally got it out on its first shakedown run today. However a few more issues have reared their ugly heads lol 1) Awful high pitched squeal when the van comes on boost coupled with a lack of power that I would assume happens as the boost pressure rises. Im hoping this in an air leak And most definitely not in any way connected to the oil change i just did The van didnt

Hi thank goodness for this forum. My van has been going into limp mode for about a year. I had it checked out by a Merc dealer who told me I needed a new turbo. Basically I have managed with it for a year until I saw a new turbo for sale for 500.00 I thought I would look on here to see if I could fit it myself and found the info on the turbo actuator arm sticking. Sure enough just been out in the dark

Hi Martin thanks for that reply. I have just checked it again this morning now the gun oil and WD40 has had chance to work in. I cant move the arm by hand but now when I start it up the vaccum pump does lift it to its full extent. When I turn the engine off it does not go back down but will go back down if I push it. It sounds like I am half way there I have all day tomorrow to keep working oil into

Hi My mates van has suddenly decided to smoke rather a lot and is drinking oil like mad so I think its fair to say that its a gonner (annoying as only done 81k with FSH) Anyway Ive managed to source another complete engine and was wondering what is the best way to swap them over any advice much appreciated. Def not HG as the rate it is consuming oil and no creamyness in header tank also the van will sometimes continue to run even when the keys are removed from the ignition.. all points to rings to me. Also if it were HG and was burning oil at the rate it does I would expect the van to overheat which it doesnt. I wish it was HG. I found an engine for 400 complete with all ancillaries and pump etc.. thus

Hello Bought this van fairly recently really pleased except that when it is idling it is revving between 500 and 750 up and down Any help would be really appreciated Thanks

Yeah they told me my gearbox needed 8 litres of oil...... they also dont deal with the 638 anymore........ service or maintenance..... Anyway thats positive about the new engine so long as your 100% you can start eliminating the next few possibilities exhaust fuel pump rail pressure pump etc....
