MERCEDES BENZ SL 107 Help with your opinion on purchasing a 1973 R107

Hey guys I am looking into buying a 1973 R107 450SL. its red with white interior. has 88000 miles on it. interior and exterior has been maintained very well. there is almost no rust on it. the only thing is that the soft top need to be replaced later on. I was wondering if you guys are able to let me know the price you think is good to purchase this for. I dont have the picture of the car now. great if you can comment.

You can find a really nice 86 - 89 560 in the same mileage and price range. Better fuel mileage. No subframe worry. ABS and air bag. more comfortable seats Big bumpers (a minus but safer). Most rusted less. All around a better car in my opinion. That sucks that you cant take it home. MERCEDES BENZ SL R129 R129 engine wont start - 1991 SL500

Hi everyone. I am having trouble with my 129. It started about three months ago with difficulty starting. You could turn the key and it would crank a long time and never start. Then if you turned the key off and back on it would start right up and run very smooth. As time passed it became more and more difficult to start. I replaced the fuel filter and checked the amps at the fuel pump and the pump

them as supplied by the computer. The centre pin feeds back to the computer a voltage less than 5 volts for each position of the air flow meter. Connect the multimeter between the centre and the top pin and watch the voltage reading as you very gradually deflect the air flow meter plate. The voltage should increase continually never dropping out to zero. If it does you need a new potentiometer. mercedes

I can remove the wheel (unscrewing the ring of small screws) and that helps in leaning the cluster out farther however the black collar around the column is really getting in the way at the bottom edge and preventing the ability to angle out the cluster any farther. So to remove the black collar it appears I need to remove the end of the steering column shaft. The problem is the 10mm allen screw down the center of the column ... it wont budge. I leaned on it pretty good with my torque bar and all I managed to do was twist my 38 socket extension shaft in two Any ideas Fill out your profile please. MERCEDES BENZ SL R129 R129 1997 Gear Knob Replacement

Hi guys Quick question I know on the early 129s in order to replace the gear knob the centre console needs to come out along with the stereo and climate control. On later models like my 97 I noticed under the mercedes badge on the gear knob there is a screw can you just unscrew and replace Or does the whole centre console need to be removed Thanks

On the later ones you unscrew the chrome ring on the bottom of the Knob and then just pull it off the shaft. No need to remove anything unless you need to take the shaft out as well. PDF pic if you need it httpwww.benzworld.orgforumsatta...le_ar_ar27.pdf

MERCEDES BENZ SL 107 Steering Wheel Removal and Odometer Repair Tutorial

Many of our MBs will suffer from a sudden non-working odometer. The gears inside the speedometer were lubed at the factory to insure smooth operation but over time this same lube reacts with the plastic odometer gears turning them into a waxy consistency. At this point the gear teeth start to crumble stopping the odometer function completely. Replacing the gears is a fairly simple job but like most

Here is the culprit. See the tooth that is missing The OEM gear on the motor drive shaft is in two pieces. The plastic gear itself and the brass bushing it is mounted on. The gear can be cut or lightly pried off. It shouldnt be hard as the plastic is probably mush by now. The brass bushing can be removed using side cutters across the diameter. A firm squeeze should cut it in half which will allow it

MERCEDES BENZ SL 107 Steering gearbox and coupler removal

Need to do it on my 84 500SL. How much of a pain is it

But you need to remove the cover by the pedals and unclamp the coupler. Be careful unclamping the coupler because if you strip that bolt you are screwed. Make sure you clean out the head of the bolt and use a hex bit or hex key in

This is a common problem when the steering gearbox coupler is not installed correctly. To check this center the steering box preferably with a center pin. The center pin can be made by sharpening the end of a 8mm fine thread bolt. Or if you cant do that just pull the plug where the center pin goes and look in with a flash light You will be able to see the hole in the side of the piston when the box

MERCEDES BENZ SL 107 Turn signal cancel - what did I do wrong

So I put in a few hours on my new (old) 380sl this morning before the weather here in Brooklyn got too hurricaney to keep it out. One of the things I attempted to fix was the fact that my right hand turn signal would not self cancel. Based on some advice from another thread and because it was not terribly expensive to do I purchased a new turn signl switch assembly off eBay (about 65 shipped) followed

Aside from the switch this issues often arise when a steering coupler in incorrectly aligned with the steering box. It is important that with the steering box on center (meaning a steering box alignment pin installed with box on center) that the flats on the steering shaft are aligned side to side. This means that the coupler bolt on the steering shaft should be straight up and down with the bolt head

Feel the bottom of the main shaft support casting of the water pump. If you have been using MB coolant and the bottom of it is crusty it is leaking. Also the hoses DO leak a little when they get old and the MB coolant is especially good at leaving deposits that tend to plug or at least slow the leaks while making where the leaks are very visible.

MERCEDES BENZ SL R129 SL300 running ruff

Hello to all. This is my first post regarding my SL300 running ruff after driving for 5 miles or so. I have owned her for two weeks now and now and again after driving a short distance it starts to cough and loses power when accelerating. When I turn the ignition off and back on she fires up fine and revs well for 10 seconds or so. Yesterday when this happened I managed to crawl back home doing 20mph.

Here is how some of it works. Pull off the air cleaner cap with the engine running. The gold dome at the bottom is the throttle body air injection port. Press on it and the engine will stumble and stall this is because unmetered air is being introduced into the engine. Just to the right youll see a lever device with a cable attached this is the throttle.Figure out how to move it with a large screw

THe book is real confusing as is shows lifting the head intact with the cam shaft.
