karburn179327 wrote I am planning a winter project to replace the pads on my 560SL with some Porterfield or Wagner pads to cut down on the dang DUST. The existing pads dont really need replacing yet so could I get by without replacing the sensors I have not dug deep enough to see just how hard a DIY project this would be. I have a decent price from a really great shop for padssensors but if I could

PBR makes a ceramic for the 87 SL and I believe Akebono as well. I have the Akebono pads on my 420 SEL and can say they have totally eliminated the dust problem. Id also recommend new sensors they are so cheap there is little incentive to re-use them. When installing new pads use a good brake cleaner to remove the old dust crud from the calipers and try to borrow a power washer to clean out the inside

Kevin Here is another option that might be worth checking for the SL. httpwww.myroadster.netporterfield.asp good luck) dave __________________

MERCEDES BENZ SL 107 Successful DIY Notes for the list Radiator Fan Clutch Temp Sensors Fuel Pump

This is a post summarizing my do-it-yourself notes from some recent work. I thought it might be helpful for other folks on this site. As always proceed with great care and if in-doubt have a mechanic do the job. Some of this work is dangerous (e.g. the fuel pump) so proceed at your own risk... The tips on this list were invaluable. Even small details like use a golf tee for a plug were very helpful

Here are three online dealers that I have use. My local dealer refuses to give me a discount. httpwww.trademotion.compartlocat...60&catalogid0 mercedes Parts Center MBZ Wholesales Parts You may need to find the PN in the EPC first and search by PN.

And the SL has only 1 O2 sensor.

MERCEDES BENZ SL R230 Tire pressure sensors

Hi My car was originally equipped with tire pressure sensors. Today the sensors are removed but the recievers are still in place and the system is active in my instrument cluster. My question is how does the sensors work. Do they have batteries that are replaceable or is it just to by new sensors when the batteries are dead. I can get hold of four used sensors that was working ok at removal. If the

New sensors need to be installed. The batteries in the MB sensors are not replaceable but they last five years. The power left can be seen on the Star system next time youre in a shop. How old are the used sensors if they are cheap enough and you are sure they are compatable with your car go for it. New ones cost about 165 each.

Does anyone know if the TPMS can be activated in a vehicle that did not have the option originally after installing the wheel sensors

MERCEDES BENZ SL R230 O2 sensors-symptoms and function

Hi I suspect that one of my O2 sensors might be faulty. The other day after a problemfree ride on the highway the engine began to idle rough and the taipipes got very black of soot. You could also actually see the black smoke and feel the smell of fuel. It was more evident from the left tailpipe but could also be seen from the right one. I guess that this might not be significant as the left and right

I think youre on the right track. If I might suggest (you didnt say if you did the analysis on a cold engine) But I would hook up my Carsoft on a cold engine and see if the O2 sensors varied their values as the car warmed up. If the values on a sensor dont change (to tell the computer to lean the fuel mix) then that sensor needs to be replaced. You can have a sensor that is post-cat go bad but it wont

Hi Thanks for your reply and input in this matter. The linked page was very good and informative. Tomorrow I will connect the computer when the engine is cold and monitor the live data as it warms up. Then hopefully I can determine the condition of my sensors. Bjorn

MERCEDES BENZ SL 107 Temperature sensors

Im trying to find out what these temperature sensors are connected to its euro 500sl 117.973... 1985 temp sensors.jpg i was looking for a sensor that effects the warm up regulator. But its difficult to trace the loom around the engine bay.

Tried to zoom in to get a closed look are you sure these are temperature sensors Have attached an overview of the control systems for a 500 both vacuum and electrical that may help.

MERCEDES BENZ SL R230 TMPS reset after 4 new sensors installed

MB tested the car last week and indicated they batteries were at the end of their useful life. I ordered 4 from tire rack and had my neighbor (tire wheel dealer) install them on my 20 rims. I drove the car for a short while and attempted to reset the TPMS via the cluster a few times but the system has yet to indicate pressures. Do I need to bring the car to MB to have them program the system or should

go to the tire press screen and press the reset on the speedo cluster untill the question cones up about reset the sensors. it should show 4 blank lines then drive it for 5 miles You can look it up in the owners manual

I have problems with mine right now and need some new sensors but after doing the reset using the display it takes he system atleast 10 mins before it throws up my error message so it suggests thats how long it will take to measure the pressures after the reset. I have read articles about activating the sensors by over inflating the tyres resetting the system as described here then deflating them to

MERCEDES BENZ SL R230 Is this true about remote tire pressure sensors

Dealer says the tire pressure sensors are glued onto the inside of the rims and cannot be easily removed without damaging them. I want to change my 17 rims for 18 ones (also OEM). Doesnt make too much sense. I figured you should be able to reattach the sensors.

Quote Originally Posted by Willy C Dealer says the tire pressure sensors are glued onto the inside of the rims and cannot be easily removed without damaging them. Rubbish. The sensors screw into place and I dont think they are at all difficult to remove.

like said above the sensors are screwed into the valve stem. once you remove the tire you put a 11mm wrench on the valve stem and then use a t20-25 torx to remove the small screw holding the sensor into the valve stem.

MERCEDES BENZ SL R129 No Roll Bar Sensors

Am I going insane or did the 1997 models NOT have the roll bar sensors on the rear suspension I ask because I dont see any yet the EPC says I should have them. I can post pictures but Im telling you theyre not there.... Dan

Im thinking that has to be the case on my car as well as there is nothing that would indicate there were ever roll bar sensors on my rear suspension. Im trying to resolve some strange roll bar lightswitch issues so I went there first to see if the switches might be the culprit. Thanks Ill continue to collect information from others and see if that is in fact the case with the 97 as well. Dan

when I was going through the work instructions for replacing rear shocks on my 97 it appears that the roll bar sensors on the rear axles were discontinued in either 95 or 96. The work instructions note that there are non on the 97 std suspension axles (non ADS). WIS says the roll bar sensors attached to the rear axle are ONLY on vehicles prior to 895 mfg date. So any 97s wouldnt have them and most

I should have them on mine but they must have been faulty as the previous owner had removed them but left me with 2 shand ones to fit(still to do that job)so I have to have the bar up all the time otherwise it pops up virtually as soon as you drive off strange that the system does not illuminate the warning light with 2 sensors disconnected.

Quote Originally Posted by LWB250 Ive come to the conclusion that the roll bar function has to be a part of the controller on my car despite what the EPC says. I will report back this weekend when I have a chance to pull the storage area lining and have a look at the limit switch(es) on the roll bar. Dan This is correct. Here is the wiring diagram for the 695 rollover bar system and the legend No axle

MERCEDES BENZ SL R230 Transfering tyre pressure sensors to new mags

I am fitting 19 inch AMG mags to my SL55. I need advice on whether the tyre pressure sensors can be removed from the standard mags and fitted to the new mags. What is involved in the process. Thanks

Here is your answer and I would make them pay you now have a copy of the DTB to argue your case.

Hi thanks a lot for this. Actually I already found that document earlier and checked my engine serial number already. And it was not in the list of affected engines. But didnt look carefully enough to find the scenario 2 (no chain problems just faulty magnets). And now I found that my engine is among the affected ones for scenario 2. Does that mean that I have a right to get that fixed for free Because

Hi thanks for your explanation Just checked the prices of the magnets again. 20 at mercedes Parts - Get mercedes Parts at Wholesale Prices or 36 at the MB dealership. Thinking about just replacing all 4 magnets myself. The dealer might give me a discount on replacing the one that brings up the error but will probably not replace the other 3 for free then. Anybody here having some experience in replacing

MERCEDES BENZ SL R230 Vario Roof Sensors

Hi Ive got a problem with my Vario Roof sticking part way through the opening sequence. I think Ive isolated it to the sensor which tells the Vario Controller that the Tubular Frame is fully extended (Sensor 119). However in the Vario Roof Diagnostic Aid Document it says that if this sensor is not recognised (sensor open) then it will get to the point where the boot lid is fully open and the pump will
