MERCEDES BENZ SL 107 Recovering my seats. New seat back covers dont have headrest holes-how do I cut them

I bought new MB Tex covers for my 83 107 SL (eBay). The seat bottom went fine but on the seat back they did not cut the openings for the headrest rails to insert in to the back. I have no idea how to locate then cut the hole what shape to cut it (just a slit perhaps) and no idea how to get the old plastic trim bits off the old back rest cover to install on the new cover. Also once I get this figured

Brian....the headrest plastic echelons called head rest guide plugs are held in place by washer that install from inside the seat cover. You can buy the ecehlons for 2.00 each (8.00 for all 4) and the washers for 2 each. In terms of where to cut the openings in your new covers - youll need to use your existing seat leathers as a guide. The holes are not just slits they are elongated. If you slit your

Brian the point here (within the forum) is to assist you and other ownersenthusiasts such as myself. By all means Im a novice when it comes to the 107s. My 560 SL is my 1st 107. Now maybe Ive miss-read of simply overlooked the facts but this is what I gather 1 - you purchased a new set of MB Tex seat covers that are specified to fit your car 2 - they did not come pre-cut with the holes for receiving

MERCEDES BENZ SL 107 Have new MB Tex covers for my 83 SL. Theyre tight top to bottom & loose side-side

I bought new MB Tex covers for my 83 SL from Topsonline.com (through their eBay auction). The seat bottoms look great but I couldnt get the seat back to look right in my trial fit....the cover appeared to be too wide at the back so that there was a big excess of material puckering on the sides and where the sides met the center portion at the back. I called the seller he said that I needed to add foam

Hmmmm I wonder...... the 560 does have the more pronounced side bolster on the seat back. The cover does have 380 SL written on the inside in marker (by hand) but that doesnt necessarily mean anything. Quote Originally Posted by abiby Anyone think that perhaps they sent 560sl seats

Any recommendations on where to buy new original style leather seat covers for my 79 450SLC Can anyone install them or must it be a mercedes specific shop I am in Massachusetts What is average price for the seat covers so I will have something to use as basis for comparison Thank you Kurt

Comparing apples to oranges I replace the seat covers on an early 450 SLC. There is a footnote that stated the MB Factory added foam at different place to fit the seat in the Early 450 SLC. I slipped new seat covers on my 911 easy job and similar to the 450 Sl write up in the EGV107. But the SLC was different. I took it to local old man who has a reputation as an onery SOB but does great work. He does

I realize everyone can be on a budget when it comes to repairs and restoring their prize MB classics and maybe Im misinterpreting some of the comments on replacing the OEM horsehair pads entirely using foam but I would not consider that as an option. Actually if buying today new replacement pads are made of coconut hair as use of horsehair stopped a few years back but in any case the OE pads included

Since I tend to prefer originality whenever possible I guess I better hope my horsehair pads are still in good shape. Id just like to know their purpose. Use of Horsehair pads was mercedes

I want to replace the seat covers on my 1972 450sl. Can anyone suggest a good place to order them I have leather and is called Bamboo thanks....Steve

Im in Australia and ordered my seat covers from Topsonline in the USA - front seats front backrests rear jump seats rear jump seat backrest door panels soft top cover trim. Quality is superb and the result is really good (I have installed the covers myself in recent days and only have the door panels still to do). MERCEDES BENZ SL 107 WTB Jumps seats

Hello Everyone I am looking to buy jump seats for my 450. The kids want to come along for a ride so I am on hunt. This car is keeping me poor so I am looking for a used set even if it is in poor quality as long as I can recover it...any color because I can re-dye them. Thanks.

Redying isnt as easy as it sounds. Vinyl doesnt redye as easily as leather which itself isnt exactly easy. I personally think if you are patient and watchsearch you may be able to get a setup as cheap as 200 and in the right color if you can just post which color would be ideal. There are some huge differences in the potential back seat options. The folding back seats are the best IMO because they

MERCEDES BENZ SL 107 SLC seats

Are they the same as an SL Im looking at a 73 450SLC today and it needs some front seats. Luckily the rears are in good shape and all there. These SLs are like potato chips you cant eat just one

The early SLC seats had different bolsters and covers but the SL seats will fit. The backrest release is vaccum controled on the SLC so you will have to do a slight mod to SL seats to get that to work (if you care). BTW I have the SLC vacuum pods if you need them.

MERCEDES BENZ SL 107 Does anyone have an old set of 560SL seat covers that they can donate for R&D

Im talking to these guys about SL seat covers because their pricing is pretty decent. They said that they dont have a pattern but can make the seat covers if I can provide them with the old seat skins. If someone has an old set lying around Ill be happy to pick up the shipping and be the lab rat. It needs to be a 560SL seat cover as they are different to the earlier seats. 1968 1979 Jaguar XJ6 XJ Leather seats Cover Custom Interior Front eBay

allabassi your post is well confusing to me - do you not have the seat covers you want to replace on your seats now that your upholsterer could use as templates and go-bys for making the new covers for you In all cases the upholsterer will need to cutsewn and fitslippull the seat bottom cover and seat back cover onto the seat pads numerous times and make adjustments in order to get a good snug fit

MERCEDES BENZ SL 107 124 Seats in a 107

I was at the junk yard today and came across some 124 seats that were almost pristine in my color. They appear to be about the same size and the drivers seat even has the center armrest. The styling is very close. They mount differently but I dont think that would necessarily be a deal killer. On a half-price day the seats would be 20. These are electric seats so there would be some engineering involved

Did a research trip to the junk yard today and grabbed a seat out of a 201 (same as the 124s seats I believe) and dropped it in the 107 that was sitting out there. It would definitely fit and likely do so without significant issues - at least thats my preliminary assessment. The seats are powered so that whole thing would need to be sorted out but the good news is that its only one power and ground

MERCEDES BENZ SL 107 Latest Project Power seats in a 75 450SL

My 450 is not a very good example. Had I known then what I know now I would not have purchased it. Interior shot rust behind the seats paint completely oxidized and the cats under the hood. At least one I.P.O. had left it out top down in weather so the interior is in really bad shape. The seats are especially bad. Ive lost 2 pair of pants due to a spring end popping out and tearing holes in my wallet

As promised Pictures First the old seats. Ive gotten the passenger seat out so I can get a fair idea of what Im going to need to to for brackets. I found the remains of what (I hope) was a milkshake under there. Also about 1.25 in loose change mostly pennies. I dont have fotos of the new seats theyre in the garage and by the time I would have gotten them out it would have been too dark to get any good

Just want to add an update Got to work in the drivers seat yesterday it had been damaged when someone tried to remove it from the Lexus without any power to the motors. The valance around the bottom of the seat that covers the motors had been forcibly torn off breaking the attachment points. I had to repair those before I could go further because of the clearance measurements needed. The attachment

MERCEDES BENZ SL 107 126 seats fit

Has anyone put 126 front seats in a R107 Do-able or to many mods to be worth while

I just did a quick measure on both my cars. The seats are about the same width and height.I have sheepskin on both so my measures are furry. The reason the 126 seat cushions appear much taller is that the 126 floor mounted (flat) rails are already raised a couple of inches above floor level. You can see at the front there is a cross member above the footwell. The 126 rails are nothing like the side

MERCEDES BENZ SL 107 Finally getting some new seats in.

Ive finally started to get up enough energy to get back to work on the car. Things have cooled off a bit at work so I have a reasonable expectation of being able to do something on the weekend. There might be someone around that remebers the photos I had of my original seats unless theyve blocked them due to horror. I had to remove the passenger seat as a safety precaution. I was fairly sure that if

Jamie the guy whos helping me has been brewing his own for about 15 years now. We have some really nice stuff available. The guy that I got the seats from says they are often used for conversion vans rat rods sand rails and off-road vehicles. They come in

MERCEDES BENZ SL 107 soft top VS seat covers. How do they compare

I recently recovered my seats to include bottoms backs back panels headrests and armrest. It was challenging but turned out very well. Looks great. Now I am considering replacing the soft top myself even though I had planned to hire it out. Anybody out there done both Which is more difficult frustrating etc. Ive read the threads but didnt find one where a member had performed both tasks on the same car. Thanks to all.

Ive done two sets of seats and a top I think doing the top takes more guts and finesse but with deliberate careful work following the directions for the glue and NEATNESS its doable assuming that you are starting with a well-made top. Its very important to do preparation and the first steps exactly right - make sure the bow height is correct and that the back and side edges are at the right locations

MERCEDES BENZ SL 107 Say what you will about sheepskin seat covers...

...but when you pull them off after a couple of decades you may be pleasantly surprised to see how well theyve protected whats underneath. Im getting benzedrine prepped for my companys annual car show next week and decided to finally see what condition the original leather seats were in. Dreading the worst I sure didnt expect them to look this good. I gave the leather a vacuuming a dusting and a little

MERCEDES BENZ SL 107 New Pads for Seats

I have decided to replace the pads in the backs of my 560 before putting on the new leather covers. I bought new pads from one of the parts places but am not impressed with the quality. Any one buy them from somewhere else that they were satisfied with the quality The horsehair part of the pad is not too bad but the foam glued on is kind of sloppy. It might be okay once the cover is on but I hate to take the chance. My old pads look as good as these.

MERCEDES BENZ SL 107 Good price on red folding back seat - ebay ending in 2 hours

I wish this one was around when I was shopping... or it was the older red. This is just like the one that I have in my red car a middle red color that matches the later 560sl red almost a purple. I asked the seller what color it was and they confirmed it is the middle red 177 from this page JJ Products - mercedes Color Chart Page Here it is much cheaper than what I paid for a red one and with all the
