The 983 heads should fit the 982 engine. The big change between the two was from mechanical FI to Electronic FI Some early 982s came thru with a carb. If yours has a carb later models had mechanical FI later engines (985) when to electronic FI. As far as the computer goes good luck if you have a mercedes or foreign car used parts yard in your area look there. I dont know if mercedes even makes them

Manuel A little bad data there from Al...first I cannot recall any 4.5 that ever had a carburetor on it. But maybe I have missed that rare bird... As clearly as I can recall they all had fuel injection electronic FI up through 75 and CIS thereafter. Maybe there are some unusual variations lurking about outside the US dont know about that. The early models again up through 75 had adjustable mechanical

Thanks to both of you for your replies Yes Al I found some computers at local yards. Checking thoroughly before buying. Jim nice info on cams. Will use higher HP cam and change all oil tubes. If anyone knows of any yard around your area that might have 450 SLC parts Ill appreciate letting me know. Maybe I could buy parts if pictures are available pay with credit card and get them dispatched to a Miami address for further shipping to Peru. regards Manuel

MERCEDES BENZ SL 107 107 cylinder head gasket part number

I live out of US and I use to buy MB parts there. I never had any problem to do that but this time I need some help. I have a 350SL 1972 107043 (12 004005) 3.5l engine M116984 ( 10 000066 ) and I need to do a top end job on it. I bought the right side on eBay ( head Gasket Set mercedes benz 450 SEL SL 116 107 RIGHT eBay ) and asked the seller to send the left side as well and I paid for both. The

From the EPC 116 010 03 80 has been replaced by 116 010 55 20 Left. 116 010 05 80 replaced by 116 010 56 20 Right.

head gasket sets include the head gasket and all upper engine gaskets and seals required to replace the head gasket. These would normally include intake and exhaust gaskets valve cover gaskets valve stem seals water outlet andor water pump gasketsseals and any other commonly replaced seals and gaskets in the upper engine.

The kit sold by AutoHaus does not included all you listed. Have to buy seals and valve cover gasket separately.

MERCEDES BENZ SL 107 450 sl cylinder head gasket project

I am replacing the head gaskets on a 77 450 sl. I need help on head bolt removal. Are the camshaft bearing holder bolts head bolts as well. I have removed all head bolts head still wont come off. Do I need to remove the camshaft holder bolts Book picture shows the head being lifted off with the camshaft intact. Thanks for any help.

Bottom ones are head bolts. Cant remember if they are the ones that supposedly require the special tool. Anyway I cut off a long 8mm allen wrench and put it in an 8mm socket. Worked just fine. Reverse the tightening sequence for removal of the head bolts.

have you loosen even those tiny 6mm at the front of the head where the timing chain goes if you look down just below the timing gear and the chain tensioner sort of the sliding rail. i think there are three 6mm bolts at the front of the head

Yes I have taken the 6 mm bolts out of the chainway. In the haynes manual it shows head bolt torgue sequence and lists the camshaft holder bolts as two to torgue. THe book is real confusing as is shows lifting the head intact with the cam shaft. I will try what rowdie said as I had thought that those bottom camshaft bearing holder bolts looked long in the list of bolts. It says nothing about taking those out just to take the sprocket off and wire up the chain. thanks for your replies. dell

look i allways do like this first i remove the cam and then loosen those other bolts in reversed order and then your done with the head bolts as allmost lift it up.

MERCEDES BENZ SL 107 Cylinder Head Numbers

I noticed today that the cylinder heads have a two digit number stamped into them toward the front of the block on the inner part of the head visible with the covers removed. Should these numbers match one another Im tring to figure out if the LS head was replaced and thought the mismatched numbers may be an indicator.

Im glad to hear there is a logical reason for wanting the head gaskets because my original thought was that you were nutz.

by speaking of the headgaskets there isnt to many choices around with one is best and so on right i know Victor-reinz like 6.9 and Goetse so finaly Elring is those i know of. If you find some one who can custom make ore just copie stock gaskets like you talking about must be perfect and safe as well. in sweden something like that is hard to get and some to do it for you is even that hard though. copper

MERCEDES BENZ SL 107 vacuum line at back of cylinder 8 head

Does anyone know why this is here and what it feeds

A 90 deg fitting goes to it then leads a vac pipe across the top of the firewall to a 4-way vac connector in the vicinity of the brake booster. The three-way output then goes to the ECONOMY gauge drivers door lock and some mystery location I have yet to find. That vac spigot is a common source of vac leaks since it is difficult to see and access with the engine installed. It is often overlooked when troubleshooting vac leaks.

If that is the drivers side (LHD) head it is the oil tube that goes to the oil pressure gauge. It has been broken and spliced with the tube and hose clamps. There should be a penetration in the fire wall just above this head. Broke mine a month ago replacing the heater hose.....90.00 24 long piece of plastic tube. Comes pre-assembled with fittings on both ends and firewall grommet. I wouldnt run it with the splice.

MERCEDES BENZ SL R129 History of R129 6 cylinder models in U.S.

Can someone point me to a link which has good information on the R129 6 cylinders I have decided that my next convertible will be an R129. Because of where I live I dont need the power of the V8 and cannot even dream of affording the V12 model. It seems that over the

MERCEDES BENZ SL R230 Replaced 3 Rear Cylinder Cam Covers Oil Pan - 700 Good Price

3 months ago I bought a 2007 SL550 with 67K miles. Yesterday I noticed oil had dripped from the car onto the floor of my garage. I was terrified it was ABC fluid. I know how expensive that can be to repair so I took the car immediately to get it inspected. I went to a local Indy shop a friend of mine highly recommend. MERCEDES BENZ SL 107 Heads up on rough idle.

I sold my 82 380SL a few week ago. I still miss the car but it looks like it went to a good home. It had been running rough for some time. Thats why I sold it as cheap as I did. Twice I had repaired vacuum leaks which cleared the problem up immediately. The third time I would trace the lines from time to time trying to find the leak. I even went to a local shop that works on a lot of M-B vehicles.

MERCEDES BENZ SL R230 Leaking hard top cylinders

Hi all I have oil dripping from my headliner and its from the front locking cylinder. Has anyone here had leaking hard top cylinders Someone posted about their front lock leaking on this forum a few months ago and that led me to Top Hydraulics website www.tophydraulicsinc.com after looking at Lighthouses response. They show a disintegrated R230 seal on their front page. I know its a big issue on R129s -- do we have to worry about all of our cylinders on R230s now

Mark we do not have illustrated step by step instructions for the R230 yet. Basically you should do the following - Remove headliner panel - Remove cylinder from lock assembly - Follow the hydraulic lines to the trunk and take note or photograph how they are routed - Remove the trunk panel covering the hydraulic pump in the left rear of the trunk - Remove the two hydraulic lines for the roof cylinder

MERCEDES BENZ SL 107 firing on only 7 out of 8 cylinders SL450 R107

Or thats what I thought. Its a 1979 450SL I bought off ebay a couple of weeks ago. Went through leads 1 to 7 and there was a very percievable drop in rpm when pulled off. On cylinnder 8 only a virtually impercievable change. Checked leads ok and pulled out the plug it looks ok see below. Next I went in search of a colourtune plug I bought 25 yeas ago but couldnt find it. I wonder if it could be being

MERCEDES BENZ SL 107 Any secret to extracting the dreaded LH cyl. heads 18th bolt

Anyone of us DIYers figure out an easy way to get a ratchet or breaker bar on an extension w8mm allen key socket to the 107 engines (in my case a 1978) left-hand cylinder heads final bolt of the tightening sequence Tis the left sides 18th bolt in sewing up a head gasket replacement -- a lower head bolt and closest to the firewall -- and I cant even see it with my own eyes or feel it with my fingers

MERCEDES BENZ SL 107 Water inside cylinders

My 1984 380SL radiator had a tiny leak around tranny oil fitting but I kept monitoring the coolant level and drove the car on & off for ten years until one day when I was away a friend asked me to lend her the car because hers was being worked on. All I asked her was to monitor the coolant level so one day she overheated it & let all the steam out. She re-filled it but it would not start. The car sat
