MERCEDES BENZ SL 107 88 560SL your thoughts

I have been looking for a weekend light use cool car. I was looking at BMW M3 and came across one of these for sale. Black with palomino interior. I love the styling and old school charm. I can see this is timeless model. I would say its in decent shape i asked if it had ever been re-painted and he said he thought a previous owner had a keying incident fixed and i think i can see where other than that

MERCEDES BENZ SL R230 WSJ Free Maintenance Article

Hi......Many like myself were interviewed by the Wall Street Journal about our feelings on the removal of free scheduled maintenance by mercedes and other manufacturers. Since I hadnt heard anything about the article I asked the interviewer what the outcome was. Evidently the article was printed a few weeks ago but none of the quotes by any of us benzWorld enthusiasts was included. The arthur of the

MERCEDES BENZ SL 107 yet another TIRE post

Ive read all the posts with tire in the title and Im still not any closer to a decision. This is somewhat of a follow-up post on preparing for 1200 mile roadtrip (88 17k original miles) I live in FL and the car will NEVER see snow or ice. Im keeping the stock wheels but cant decide on new tires. I am totally amazed the original Pirellis havent cracked or rotted (at least visibly) but for 400-450 Im

I only have three comments. 1) I like Tire Racks user review section where you can view ratings on several different qualities. 2) As for lifespan (and these tires did not live in a desert) Im shocked at how good a set of (what I believe are) 20-year-old Bridgestone Potenza 2057014 tires have held up. They look brand new with NO cracking at all. Ive (done a stupid thing and) ran these tires (that came

As for me I prefer a grand touring type tire.... quiet and comfortable. And I did ask for age

MERCEDES BENZ SL 107 Spark Plugs

Im thinking of changing out my plugs this weekend. Im currently using Bosch copper. So I thought ask what everyone else is using. Anyone have luck with other plugs Thanks..

Im going to make a separate document to keep on my computer so I dont have to keep re-typing this. The spark plug circuit from the distributor cap is composed of three elements The plug the plug boot and the wire. mercedes has designed the system on these engines to have a) non-resistor plugs b) a resistor in the plug boot (thats why it is so big) c) the plug wire(and terminal). The resistor in the

MERCEDES BENZ SL R231 TonnoPro on 12 SL installed on a NYC street (very easy)

I recently picked up a 2012 SL Crew Cab Shortbed. One of the 1st things needed for it to survive on the streets of NYC was some sort of tonneau cover. This is less to protect things in the back just more to keep people from throwing garbage in the bed. After some consideration and a chat with the folks over at RealTruck.com I decided on a TonnoPro trifold. I had initially felt that a Bakflip was the

MERCEDES BENZ SL 107 Wish me luck

Its a long shot but Franny has asked to talk and maybe come see the SLC Convertible on Monday. httpwww.benzworld.orgforumsshow....phpt1754162 Franny wants red or white and I wonder if there are temporary options. (That shrink wrap stuff Plasti-dip) But at the number I could make the car white and get a new convertible top among several other items. 35 days is probably a fairly significant role in a

Well I will admit the call went the opposite way I thought it would. I assumed this would be a porno or something. It is apparently a budgeted film and the director is near insistent on maroon or maybe white exterior. Apparently there are 220se cars available but most of them probably dont want to modify a classic values anywhere from 60000-100000 just for a 15000 rental fee. (And if the car scenes

MERCEDES BENZ SL 107 Do you have aftermarket seat heaters in your car

Im going to be putting aftermarket seat heaters in my stock seats. If you have aftermarket seat heaters where did you put the switches and did you use the switches provided or did you use something more period correct Pictures would be nice. Thanks

I just installed a pair of carbon fiber seat heater elements in SHMBOs Grand Prix. Draw 5 amps each set (seat bottom and back) These were customizable as far as length. I had to cut the seat bottom down quit a bit to avoid the listing velcro. The work super well. You can actually broil your biscuits. I am going to use these in my 73 when I replace the seat covers. The switches have 2 positions hi and

MERCEDES BENZ SL 107 New purchase issues

Hi Ive just bought a 1985 UK 500SL with 83k miles. Its in pretty good condition & was my father-in-laws car so I knew some of its history. The car & I are still getting to know each other but first impressions are good. (Im comparing it to my previous classic a 1989 BMW 635.) I thought a 635 could get through the juice but it looks like I may have to recalibrate my expectations Being 27 years old the

MERCEDES BENZ SL 107 blower control unit

1983 500sl how can I test to see if the BCU is bad I can put a jumper wire on the back of the BCU and get the fan to turn on but I dont know if that means its bad or if it could be the control unit. Any help or suggestions would be great Im sure where to go from here or what to test next.

Thanks for all of your help guys. I pulled the acc control unit and soldered all of the contact points. I plugged the unit back in and everything thing works. However it was cutting out intermittently I wiggle the 2 plugs on the sides of the unit and everything will comeback on. I put some dieolectric grease into all of the conductors on the plug now the unit is working perfect. I went through the

MERCEDES BENZ SLK R170 Question for Shane

Hey Shane serious question clearly you love the SL500 but does it have the same enterainment factor as the SLK32 I drove both the SL500 and the SL55AMG a few months back loved both (aside from being an extra 30-40 grand more expensive than my SLK32). Can you honestly say dollar for dollar or pound for pound in my case the extra cash is worth the returns in engineering build quality performance I wrestled

areas perhaps I should visit. Pre owned 355 A 360 Modena. Lotus Elise yeah driven them hysterical car Un believable handling traction road holding and fast without question. If I have a question mark against them its this its a LOTUS this equates to Loads Of Trouble Usually Serious [D][D][D][D] Sadly the same can be also said of the TVR I nearly bought one of those when I was first looking at mercedes.
