MERCEDES BENZ SL 107 clunk when braking rear left before completely stopped before car is warmed-up

Hi all trying to be as specific as possible... I have a new distinct clunk coming from what sounds like the rear left as Im coming to a stop. This happens a second before fully stopped after coming to a medium to hard stop. The sound is most pronounced when the car is still warming up and dissipates after its been driven. I recently had the transmission fixed (broken b2 band) and bleedflushed the brake

MERCEDES BENZ SL R230 Wicked Wheel Setup... 22 Rear 20 Front

I just got my SL 500 2 days ago and ordered my new Forgiato Extremo Rims with a 6 lip in the rear 20 X 9 in front and 22 X 11 in rear... The spokes are painted Firemeist red in the center as well... Using 29525-22 in rear and 24530-20 up front. I will post pics as soon as they arrive in 20 days...

a rim shop where we do custom installs all the time. The latest setups weve done are 22 rears and 20 fronts on both the C6 Vette and a Lexus SC 430. I test fitted the 2022 setup on my SL and it was mouth watering to say the least. I could run 22s in the front as well but that lifts the car too much in the front. We just put 24s on a 300C Chrysler and it came out awesome. Keep in mind that on the benz

MERCEDES BENZ SL R230 Do you have a rattle in the right rear

Well I did and it was driving me crazy. Only happened when I drove on a road that went from smooth to rough. I tried everything to localize and stop the noise to no avail until I finally had enough and took it to my MB dealer. Im on a first name basis with the service manager and asked him if he had ever chased an issue in the location I figured the noise was coming from. It sounded like it was at

The noise was slightly different more a clicking noise and I could have sworn that it was a plastic piece in the interior. Removed the center armrest and the whole rear interior panelling but didnt find anything. Then remembered your post and found that the noise disappeared completely whenever I drove with a slightly applied parking brake pedal. Went to mercedes

MERCEDES BENZ SL R230 R230 ABC Rear Valve Block Accumulator removal Procedure

Hello all I searched but found no info regarding removal of the rear Valve Block on a R230 (anywhere on the net). As removal is necessary to change the two rear Accumulators as well as service or clean the rear Valve Block this procedure will be necessary at one point or another in the life of many of our R230s Time With car on stands and wheel off ready to begin removal about 1 hour Two notes 1) It

may take a little time but negates the need for a Rodeo. NEVER run the engine with an empty ABC reservoir The pump may ingest air which will kill it in short order However if it has not been done so recently I would strongly recommend a complete ABC fluid flush and fill while servicing the valve blocksaccumulators. This is the cheapest insurance you can buy against future ABC failures. While mercedes

MERCEDES BENZ SL 107 560SL rear calipers

Alright so my rear calipers appear to be frozen and I figure it will be cheaper to rebuild and repaint them rather than replace them. Not to mention Id like to keep the car original. There are 2 brake caliper repair kits on AutohausAZ which one do I need How can I tell which calipers I have Your Parts Search Returned 3 Part(s) -Jake

Thanks benzHacker and everyone for the information. When I say frozen calipers I could be wrong. I still need to take the calipers apart first. All I know is that the pads were stopping the rotor from spinning freely at all and thus the entire rear brake system had to be removed for me to spin the drive shaft. From what I can tell the calipers are completely covered in brake dust but I dont see too

After it is in the garage they will call saying they found a slight

MERCEDES BENZ SL 107 Any way to remedy the sagging rear end of our Pre-560SL 107 cars

Seems like all the 107 cars prior to the 560SL have sagging rear ends.....at least they LOOK that way. I would like to lift mine a few inches Is there a recognised way to do this Brian in Austin

There is a lot of rubber in these cars. Last year I undertook a complete suspension restoration (ended up completely redoing the brakes and driveline too). With all of the rubber replaced and using the thicker spring shims on the rear I can report no sag whatsoever. Also a really nice ride.

MERCEDES BENZ SL R230 Replaced a rear strut

MERCEDES BENZ SL 107 560 Sl Rear Bearing Removal

I have the rear hubs disassembled and just received new wheel bearing kits for both sides. I have the races removed and the new ones installed the inner bearing is off (pretty easy) however the outer bearing (on the spindle) is giving me a problem. I found a MB bearing puller but it costs 400.00 so that is not an option has anyone removed this bearing if so how did you do it I am sure it has been discussed

Wow a foul I thought this forum is intended to help fellow MB 107 owners. Anyway the following link is for the complete bearing removal for a 123 and a 126 but it is exactly the same for the 107 I read through it and you would have thought it was for a 107 pictures and all. Hope it helps and I can not take credit for it One last comment I read this forum on a regular basis and find it to be very helpful

MERCEDES BENZ SL 107 Rear coil springs

I was just curious if there are any differences in springs based on who makes them I got my car smogged and had the shop take a look at my suspension clunk turns out my rear spring are done. The mechanic lubed it all up but Id really like to just fix it for good. For now the clunk is gone but for how long I have seen springs online for between 60-100 so for 200 in parts I can take care of this damn

MERCEDES BENZ SL R129 Rear Subframe mounting

Hi all You guys have experience of replacing the rear Subframe rubber mountings In what circumstances will you replace those rubber mountings Is it difficult to replace those mounts The parts number shd be 1293511442(kit) or 1293511442. Cheers Eric

At home it takes a few days and you need the unique tools to press the bushings back into place. You cant just bang them back in with a big hammer. The new bushings press in at their perimeter NOT by their center. The bushings are fluid filled and can rupture In fact thats one sure way to tell if you need new bushings if they are collapsed and leaking oil. Myarmar lists the correct parts. WHATEVER

MERCEDES BENZ SL R129 Just had my rear Windows replaced in my soft top

Just had my rear Windows repalced in my soft top. I went to put the top down one morning and heard a loud POP it turned out to be the rear window in my soft top. So I call a local and reputable upholstery shop to get a price quote and they informed me that they could remove the rear section of the top and sew

MERCEDES BENZ SL 107 Rebuilding rear suspension

My 1984 380SL is squatting a little and I thought Id tackle replacing all of the rear rubber pieces. After reading the FSM and trying to figure out which rear coil spring pad to order (and not being able to-too many choices) I thought my first step would be to remove one coil spring to determine if its a short or long and what the original dimension of the spring pad is supposed to be. I assume the

Ive done a compete R&R of the rear-end on my 500 SLC. I can tell you straight off that this job - specifically the springs - can not be done unless you have the proper spring compressor. In fact it can be downright dangerous to try and do this wout the correct compressor. Dropping the entire rear sub-frame is a daunting process requiring a lift pit lifts and an extra set of hands. The only way to return

MERCEDES BENZ SL 107 76 450SL Rear Axle Replacement

What a wealth of knowledge... Members I have looked all over this section and have gained a little knowledge however I am loooking for a procedure for changing out the rear axle assemblies on my 76 450SL. I have searched quite a bit and found some bits and pieces. Can anyone point me in the right direction for changing the axle shaft assemblies on the 450SL Many Thanks

Just did this but it was part of a complete suspension overhaul. I dropped my entire rear subframe and had great access to everything. But Im almost positive that this job is easily accomplished by only undoing the shocks so that the swing axles drop to their full extension. The Service Manual will make it clear. One thing that isnt in there make sure you keep the rear axle bolt spacer that came with

MERCEDES BENZ SL 107 Carving out the rear deck to accept 6 by 9 loudspeakers.

Hi all as one who is about to embark on the road of classic car ownership with my first mercedes 450 SLC 1976. I know this is a really old thread but by the same token I figure youve probably worked out some bugs and hopefully I can benefit from your experience. My question like my project has three parts 1) Has anyone successfully replaced the front speakers in a 350450SLC I bought some 4 Blaupunkts but the metal basketflange on them prevents their fitting neatly into the original openings. MERCEDES BENZ SL 107 thump noise from rear of car

A few weeks ago I started noticing a thumping noise going over bumps or RR tracks. Thought I had a loose shock so I took the rear side panels off so I could see the top of the shocks. Everything was tight and rubber bushings looked good. So I crawled underneath pushing and pulling on things and couldnt find anything loose. When I was changing position to grab something else my knee bumped the muffler

I recently had aKnock develop in the rear when going over bumps as well. It would occur with either rear wheel. Thought first of the muffler that wasnt it. Turned out to be a deteriorated (in fact completely missing) bushing in the left stabilizer (sway) link. Fortunately not a real expensive fix. Replacement links seem to price out at anywhere from 8 to 25 each and OE links seem to run a little over 35 each.
