MERCEDES BENZ SL 107 Some guidance on converting 1973 450SL to a manual transmission

Hi I am in the process of converting a 73 450SL to a 4 sp manual transmission. Ive read all the posts I could find on manual trans conversions but I have not been able to find an answer to this question. Were does the metal fluid line from the clutch master cylinder pass through the firewall From the attached picture it looks like line 95 goes through the boot 98 which seems to pass through the front

I plan on eventually converting this thread into a streamlined version that hopefully can be added to the EGv107. I am starting this thread in real time so I can get some feedback and comments as I proceed. I have 40 years working and restoring cars for [sic] fun but I am an amateur so please don&8217t take my words as gospel as most of my experience comes from trial and (big) errors. This thread is

I explored performing this conversion on my 73 107 as well. But after carefully reviewing this project I deemed myself too broke old and lazy to complete a project such as this. I elected to just paint the car.

I got a new vacuum box from mercedes and as well as the three pins the kit also comes with a key that fits inside the vacuum box and can be screwed in our out. However I have no clue how this should be adjusted. Can anyone point me to a workshop manual for the gearbox or explain how this should be adjsuted. Many thanks.... You can see the key in the picture below the vacuum box connects to the vacumm modulator.

View Complete manual transmission for MERCEDES BENZ SL

Im just getting caught up on this thread. It always amazes me how rusted 107s still look good. The rust on that one even scares me. Id say it has three to four times the rust mine had maybe more. Fortunately I caught mine in time for the rockers to still be solid and in good shape. Im willing to bet on the inside of those rockers the bottom (or floor) of the rocker is completely rusted out. The rust

MERCEDES BENZ SL 107 560SL with manual transmission - is it feasible

Roncallo accomplished an almost unbelievable feat by stuffing that mercedes V12 in his 560SL so how difficult is it to install a manual transmission in a 560SL I think a manual 560SL would make these cars almost as unique as the 500SL AMGs. So what are the technical issues that need to be addressed to replace the automatic with a manual transmission Are there existing 5-speed gear boxes that would

MERCEDES BENZ SL 107 Into the Unknown With A Transmission

So my 380SL has 179K miles and I hope to replace the powertrain with rebuilt units this fall (hopefully before something bad happens). I got in a spare engine and transmission to rebuild some time ago from a 1982 380SL (whose timing chain had been replaced with a double chain AFTER a catastrophe). It was a pretty good deal. The engine ran well and compression was good but the mileage was unknown but

MERCEDES BENZ SL 107 manual tranmission

what are some manual transmission options for the 450 slc what are some cross references that fit without too much modifications other than adding a clutch. thanks guys

other than adding a clutch. thanks guys None will fit with just adding a clutch. You need to consider prop-shaft and I believe a few other things not just the pedal box. unless you have a complete car with all the bits you need its barely worth it. With regards to what will bolt straight up to the block I think (and I could be wrong) your only option is the 4-speed fitted to the M116 350. mercedes

MERCEDES BENZ SL 107 Question about checking the transmission fluid level in a 280SL

There seems to be a lot of mystery surrounding the correct procedure in measuring the amount of fluid in the transmission on these cars which is surprising as its generally believed that over filling will ruin your life. Ive drained all the fluid from the tranny sump and torque converter and changed the filter. The owner manual states that the capacity is 6.2 litres for my box. I followed the procedure

MERCEDES BENZ SL 107 transmission mount change

I just completed the change of the transmission mount in my 72. It was a pretty easy job if I did it again it would probably take me 1.5 hours. The most difficult thing was just crawling around under the car. Anyway I took some pics that may be of value or interest to some of you DIYers. The first one is a comparison of the old mount and the new one. The old one is on the left and you can see that

MERCEDES BENZ SL 107 1975 450SL Transmission

Upshifts perfectly. Very smooth 2-3 3-4. Kick down works perfectly but when it down shifts in normal driving it downshifts hard more from 3 to 2 than from 4 to 3. It feels like the transmission is braking very much like when you manually down shift say a TR3 and let the clutch out complete with a slight whirr and deceleration unless you apply the throttle. Could this be the Modulator Fluid and filter changed and at proper level. Thanks.

The loose-leaf format was used into the 90s and was eventually replaced by the WIS system entirely. Upto 1970 or so the manuals tracked the car models closely. By 1973 the model lines had been improved to the point where all rear ends all brakes all suspensions etc were close enough to being the same that they could make like easier on the mechanic (not the car owner) by setting up the manuals in that

MERCEDES BENZ CLASS C III 204 Transmission - the weakest point of W204

Seems like a lot of owners have been reporting transmission issues with W204s lately. There are currently 3 threads on the first page of the W204 forum about transmission issues a leak a slip and harsh shifting. Additionally the transmission is fairly slow to shift in manual mode which takes away from the fun of it and makes it seem like MB is lagging behind other car makers on the transmission front.

MERCEDES BENZ SL R230 New 2009 SL AWD Rogue owner

Just purchased 2 weeks ago - have about 700 miles on it now. Most everything is fine with it - have 2 issues that I notice - the RMP range and that speed thing at 30 to 40 mphs - seems like Nissan would have addressed that by now. I dont think it is a problem just seems like there would have been a tech bullitin on it to tweak it by now. Also the Bose radio doesnt seem to be top notch if my ears are

Welcome to the NICOClub Rogue Forums Robteesit Many have commented on the low rpm vibration issue. It is completely normal. Nissan has taken advantage of the CVT and programmed very high gears for fuel economy while cruising. Hello Might as well post specifications to answer the questions I see. On the bell-housing it is a manufactured replica [to AMG specs].
