Are you not able to simply drain the tank near the fuel pump then refill it with a good fuel system cleaner or a dry-gas product containing alcohol to absorb remaining water I havent had water in the gas with a mercedes but used to get it occasionally in a Volkswagen some years ago always had to replace the fuel filters (both of them) when it happened. Filters were too fine to let the water pass.

Here are some directions if youd like remove your gas tank. Hope it helps.

My 01 s500 has a metallic ticking noise coming from engine when starting up and stays until fully warmed. Sounds like a valve problem and is very temperture sensitive. If its real cold out much more prominent. Ticking noise increases with Rpms until about 2300rpms and then disappears but returns at lower rpms. Car has 69k and has always been serviced. I cannot tell for sure where the noise is coming

If the noise goes away at engine speeds over 2300 RPM and then returns at lower speeds it could be a valve lifter. Kevin Welcome to the W140 forum. About your fans maybe the AC is on Now the air pump makes this jet sound if a vacuum line is broken to the control valve. Verify the fans are spinning fuel gauge on these cars seem to be a common thing because one of my W140 is starting to do it. Maybe someone may chime in on this. The washer Check the fuse since the car came from California-maybe from a big city(where people are not wiping bugs off). The fluid was not used so algae formed in the tank and stalled the pump. Now one thing I would do in a New York Second is to replace the Heater Tee before making drives. When the Tee breaks you have 30 to 40 seconds before you ruin the engine. The rear left head rest on my 2003 s500L is stuck in the up position. I have removed the boot (trunk) lining and inspected and note that the actuator has come loose for some reason. Working at the tips of my fingers I can get the actuator back into place but I suspect the lever mechanism is not engaging on whatever.
