MERCEDES BENZ CLK I 208 how difficult is it to change rear bearings

can anyone give me an idea of what to expect on changing rear wheel bearings. Also whats the best way to seperate the caliper from the rotor. I should probably do new padsrotors bearings in one swipe.

Just a couple bolts hold the calipers on. Check the DIY I did in the 210 section (no good pics of the rears but the brakes are the same). Just be sure you are removing the bolts that secure the caliper to the bracket some have removed the bolts that hold the 2-piece caliper together. On a smartphone so I cant check but IIRC the bearings are sealed into the hub so you have to replace the hub. Theres

You are trying to remove the rear axle shaft flange. Unfortunately you probably need to get hold of a special M-B puller. It is described in the WIS as removal and installation tool. Part no 140 589 03 61 00. Its operation described to prevent damage is quite complex. The wheel bearing is held in place by a circlip described as a locking ring but you have to get the shaft off first.

MERCEDES BENZ CLK I 208 Stripped hub...HELP

I tried to install a mercedes dealer wheel lock and felt some resistance even with a little bit of lube. Took it out and saw the first 3 threads are stripped with some shavings...DAMN they gave me the wrong locks So I took it that the threading on the hub is messed up as well. Now Im riding with 4 good bolts and one shortie just hanging on. Anyone know how to remedy this Is there a way I can re-thread the stripped hole Around how much would a new hub cost at the dealer

Your best bet really is to replace the hub if its truly stripped. On a clk320 the hubs are just W202 parts so they shouldnt be more than 120 each (front or rear). On a clk55 the rear hubs are R129 (SL) parts and are quite a bit more costly. Replacing the hubs is a little bit involved (it requires removing the bearings and repacking them). If youve not repacked wheel or hub bearings before I suggest you dont learn on your clk and leave it to a mechanic. -s-

MERCEDES BENZ CLK I 208 2002 clk55 amg hub removal maybe cavity from my lugnut broke into hub

I have an clk55 which sheared off 3 of the 5 bolts on the right rear wheel. I removed 2 of the 3 broken lug threads from the hub..but accidently pushed one into cavity of the hub. Question is do we need to pull the hub removing the nut that seals the bearings (or what is the procedure) What size socket is that bearing nut If not what can I do Thank you for your help

i believe that you can leave the wheel bearing in place take off the rear caliper and the rotor this will expose the e-brake shoes and the broken bolt should be in there

MERCEDES BENZ CLK I 208 I SPLIT THE Driver Side Rear ROTOR IN HALF

MAN WAIT TIL YOU GUYS SEE THESE PICS. MY CAR KILLED THE DRIVER SIDE ROTOR LIKE SNAPPED THE DISK APART FROM THE hub. The mechanic said it was from the torque of the rear axle and that I need to upgrade the rotors and brake calipers. This is crazy I have never seen anything like this. He also said that this is an example of the torque coming from the rear.... Man have you guys heard of anything like this. I will post pics in the morning.

Looking at the disk floating on the hub spindle there is no signs of cracks and distress or complications of duress. I mean the thing looks perfect. Now there is ridges on the place of seperation. which shows you the hub was indeed spinning and the rotor was at a standstill. The calipers pump like the usual. I also ruled out replacing them. I plan to upgrade the rotors with slotteddrilled and run ceramic

MERCEDES BENZ CLK I 208 how to replace wheel hub front. lug nut stripped

my front driver side lug holes are stripped on the my clk 430. i was told i need to replace the entire hub. i found a place online that sells them with the wheel bearing. can someone help me out on how to replace. is it hard will i need an alignment afterwards or should i take it to a shop to replace. it seems pretty straight forward but wanted to ask the experts on the board for guidance. thanks hopefully

Samsongee please click user cp and edit details to add your VEHICLE and LOCATION to your profile as it is useful information when youre seeking assistance. It is not terribly difficult. You have to remove the caliper and rotor and then you remove the dust cap and loosen the clamp bolt on the axle nut. Then you remove the axle nut and pull the hub off. If the new one has bearings I would still repack

MERCEDES BENZ CLK I 208 Wheel Hub Replacement Question

So I ran over a curb this weekend and ended up with two flat tires I actually had two spares in my car one for my car and one for an E500. When I went to the tire shop to have new tires put on they said I needed to replace the wheel hub on the front drivers side. That is the one I put the E500 spare on which the lug nuts were too long for. Is replacing the wheel hub easy to do I am pretty savy when

Quote Originally Posted by bobbyjo9 I think Keyhole was thinking of the rear. The front hub needs no special tools to remove. The bearing should come out easily but I would be surprised if the hub does. You might be right of course I took my info from the WIS that suggests that a puller is needed. See below

MERCEDES BENZ CLK I 208 New bearings with old races

I bought new bearings from kragen. When I pulled apart my hubs i showed the races to the guys working in both Kragen and Autozone and they said that they looked great reuse them so I packed and put in the NEW bearings with the OLD races. Old rear seals were bad and the grease was dirty. Am I in trouble Should I buy a new set and start over My buddy who works on cars said always change them together they are a matched set.

MERCEDES BENZ CLK II 209 Wheel bearing or Glycol in the trans Im losing sleep.

Until I read the horrer stories about Valeo radiators leaking glycol into the trans I was certain my symptons were related to a noisy right rear wheel bearing. Know I am scared it could be much worse. What do you think 2004 clk55 Why it is similar to Glycol problem - Under light acceleration or coasting between 20 and 50 mph I hear a droning sound from what appears to be the rear end. Sounds similar

I would examine the following 1. Jack up the rear. Take parking brake off. Spin the suspect wheel and listen for worn bearing noise (rumbling). Then grab the wheel and pull against the hub checking for end-play. 2. Check the coolant water for any sign of ATF. Maybe suck out a glass full and hold up to the light. 3. The expensive way to get a good nights sleep would be to pay MB for a glycol test.

I think that you have correctly eliminated (a) engine (b) transmission. So what else is spinning while you are moving (c) prop shaft - flex disc OK (d) differential - any sign of oil loss (e) half-shafts (f) wheel hubs (c) (d) (e) would be affected by loading which you say is not present. Front wheel bearings generally make more noise while turning. Im not sure what affects the rear wheel bearings noise ....

MERCEDES BENZ CLK I 208 Help Front Hub stuck

Went to put on the front hub after repackingreplacing the bearings it seated then I decided to pull it back off to add a little more grease inside the hub between the races. I unseated the hub and now it is stuck wont go all the way on wont come off. Should I try yanking it off or gently pounding it back on

Well didnt have to hit that hard. just paranoid about damaging racesbearingsor spindle. looks like a few blemishes on the race but I could feel nothing. did the brakes on both sides but have to wait for another rear seal and a new grease cap (put a hole in it with a screwdriver Primitive Pete).

MERCEDES BENZ CLK I 208 Rear Wheel alignment fix question

Hi guys Very quick question I need help on. Someone smashed into my rear drivers side wheel and bent my contol arms. (W208 2000 model clk230) I changed the control arms Tie rod and sway bar mount. The car drives fine now it does slightly drift to the left at high speed. The only thing is that the wheel is now like 1cm closer to the wheel arch than the passenger side. How do I go about fixing this Somebody

Personally I would suggest taking it to a certified shop for a proper alignment. It should not drift and perhaps it is just an alignment issue. However the accident could damage other things (hub bearings differential etc.) but start with a proper alignment. If you still have the drift you need to investigate further.

MERCEDES BENZ CLK II 209 2004 CLK 320 (W209) RotorPads Replacement DIY

Im pretty sure this topic has been covered but my search did not show many posts with DIY RotorPads Replacement....So heres my experience so far. I purchased the following to complete the replacement from R1 Concepts.

MERCEDES BENZ CLK I 208 Horrible tire wear

Hello Around 3500 miles ago I put new Falken tires on the front of me 430. The tires are basically worn out around the outside and will need to be replaced in the next month or two. Are there any adjustments that can be made to the front end so the tires wear evenly and not just around the outside Also what kind of tires do you find get the most miles before having to be replaced Thanks Russell

There is a mercedes alignment and a regular allignment. With the true mercedes alignment they put some weight hanging off the rear to preload the rear shocks. Supposedly it makes a difference when they take the measurements. There also is a MB kit to make the rear fully adjustable. My tire guy wont even do a MB and they have a full Hunter setup. The cost at a dealer is about 159 which is very expensive

MERCEDES BENZ CLK I 208 lowering and vibration issues

Hi all Hoping I can get some assistance here -- I have two separate issues at hand. 03 clk320 cabriolet 84k miles. First issue I lowered my W208 about a couple months ago from the stock springs using the Eibach Pro-Kit and original shocks. While I was on the stock suspension everything was nice and even. Ever since then my drivers front side is significantly lower (0.5) than my passenger side and

MERCEDES BENZ CLK II 209 High Miles ok CLK 500

Ive spent a few hours searching the clk 500 and have learned a few things this is a great site. I could not however find much information on people drivng their clks past 100000 miles. MERCEDES BENZ CLK I 208 Wheel noise wobble diagnosis

Its been an embarrassing amount of time that I have had a whom-wom-wom noise out of my right wheel when I come to stop or at slow speeds. MERCEDES BENZ CLK I 208 Proper Tire Size for Mandrus Millenium 18s

The last set of tires that I purchased have worn out and now its time for them to be replaced for the coming season. The tires I had on them were 2254018 in the fronts and 2553518 in the back. This setup on the 18x85 ET32 (F) and 18x95 ET35 (R) had a stretched look which I didnt really like that much and caused me to warp one of my rims on a pothole (city driving) which has since been replaced. MERCEDES BENZ 124 124 16 inch CLK wheels on 300TE-24 Sportline

Im thinking of fitting a set of clk 16x7 wheels to my 124 300TE-24 Sportline. Like these The original wheel sizes for my car are 15x7 ET41 with 20560. Will the above clk wheels fit okand what tire size should I use to keep the speedo accurateno rubbing issues Anyone know the offset of the clk wheels and do these also come in 15 inch diameter

Ive never seen a 15 version but thats cool if they exist. Maybe thats a UK market thing Still forged aluminum Either way I can not vouch for whether or not a 15 version of that wheel will clear the four piston calipers. The 16 version is really close to the calipers in a couple of places. I really like them on W124s. For me the strangest part has been how impossibly tight they are at the front around

The short answer is not without a bit of modification. The fronts fit with two conditions 1. You swap the clip on weights for stick on weights to clear the tie rod. Yes its that close. 2. You get different center caps or use a spacer to accomplish both this and the first problem. Reason being that the bearing cap in the front hub protrudes too much so the clk center cap wont fit properly. The rears
