MERCEDES BENZ CLK I 208 which oil is best for our cars

I want to change my engine oil. I want to use the best oil for my car. I live in Chicago and the weathers going to be getting a little warmer around here and i was wondering whats the best brand and weight oil i can use for my car. (2000 clk320 60000 miles) ive been using Mobil 1 fully synthetic 5w-30. i was thinking of trying royal purple but after reading up on it on some websites its not recommended

at operating temperature Mobil1 0W-40 and 5W-30 have the same thickness. Motor oil thickness is measured in cS (or CS depending on the reference). This is CentiStokes. Stokes Law is used to quantify the viscosity of a fluid. oils are typically approved by auto manufacturers based on their ability to be at the correct thickness in the shortest amount time. The correct thickness of motor oil in a mercedes-benz

MERCEDES BENZ CLK I 208 oil change interval

I recently bought a 99 clk320. It has 22000 miles on it. Id like to know other owners opinions on the recommended oil change interval by mercedes. Following the FSS system an oil change will be completed about every 10000 miles. Every car Ive had I changed the oil every 3000 miles. The car is out of warranty so I will pay for the changes myself. I have no problem paying for them if it will really extend

MERCEDES BENZ CLK I 208 DIY Oil Change for a CLK

Attached is a PDF that will show you step by step how to perform your own oil change. The PDF file shows a clk430 but the same procedure works for clk320 clk350 & clk55 only the amount of oil maybe different. Check owners manual for oil Capacity.

Thank you for the DIY instructions. Id never have found the filter ON TOP of the engine. Nice idea. If I may add something on this my first post -- jack up the car from the drivers side with a floor jack at the jack point and put a jackstand under the control arm. Remove the four small bolts holding the plastic pan under the engine. Take a 13mm wrench and remove the oil pan drain plug from the passenger

MERCEDES BENZ CLK I 208 Oil Consumption - CLK 430

I have a 99 clk 430 still under warranty. Engine (113) is using a quart of oil every 1000 miles. MBUSA says this is within stated consumption limits. Anyone having this issue. Thanks. KT

to admit i work for benz and make the statement i made would be a mistake the car holds 8.4 quarts of oil so they design it to go 10.000 miles between oil changes seems you would have to replace all the oil more than once between fss services was due again i cant get people to add wiper solvent.......... the fss system was developed to ease dealer services and customers having to be in every 3000 miles

MERCEDES BENZ SLS AMG C197 How to manually check oil level CLK55

Hi all sorry if this has been answered already but couldnt find it. I have 2006 clk55 AMG with electronic oil measurement system. Is this system reliable Is it possible to manually check the oil with a dipstick There is a red plastic cover where dipstick should be but no dipstick is attached. Thanks

Yes it is a reliable system. It will warn you if oil level is too low or too high(overfilled) and your FSS will tell you about your next service.

MERCEDES BENZ CLK II 209 CLK 500 Oil Change Help

Hello. Im new to this forum and a new 06 clk 500 owner just last weekend. Im planning on changing both the engine and transmission fluids as the car has 36000 miles on it. Does anyone know if the clk cars have air suspension I dont want to damage it by jacking the vehicle up if its not turned off. Ive seen a DIY method here in this forum of how to replace mostall of the tranny fluid by attaching a

You will have to pop off the plastic engine cover to see the AT fill tube. It usually has a yellow cap which is also a seal so you cannot just inspect the level. There is no dipstick. What I meant by unique to the clk is that there are DIYsthreads about the auto-transmission on several other forums here whose models also use this gearbox. You will find some useful info there. It sounds as if you need

MERCEDES BENZ CLK II 209 pressure building in cooling system

hi guys i have a 2004 clk 200k i bought the car damaged and got the car fixed and when it was ready for the road i noticed it was leaking coolant took it local garage they said it was leaking water from the water pump so i got them to change the water pump now i have noticed a problem with the car it keep building pressure in the cooling system this problem was defo from before i bought the car as

Take off your oil filler cap and take a look inside. Any sign of coolant in your engine oil (as a white emulsion) Take a look at the coolant header. (reservoir) Any sign of oil in your coolant If so you definitely have a head gasket problem. What do you mean by building pressure in the coolant system It is normal for pressure in the coolant system to be above atmosphere to prevent the coolant boiling.

Thanks for your reply keyhole much appreciated. The car is not overheating and there no sign of oil in coolant so am guessing its a bloackage in the cooling system. The Top hose off the radiator is the pipe that gets very hard when i drive the car. I hope its just a blocked radiator. MERCEDES BENZ CLK I 208 Fuel System cleaner good or bad

Is it a good idea to add a fuel system cleaner such as Lucas every 3 thousand miles I have a 2000 clk320 with about 83 thousand miles. I bought it last year with only 60k miles however I do not know if the guy used premium. I fill up with premium only. Also does anyone know if it makes a difference if i use Mobile 1 0W-40 rather than 0W-30 when changing my oil I am also thinking of getting my transmission

25K miles ago If so the proper way to fix that problem is to pull the injectors and send them out to be cleaned. The places I know (RC Engineering) charge 25 per injector. Alternatively you can take the car to an indy or your dealer. As for running a tank based cleaner I wouldnt but others may. The right oil is a highly debatable subject. To make a wordy post short - I use Mobil1 0-40 because mercedes-benz

I use Lucas fuel treatment. 3 yrs. Car runs cleaner smoother faster up to redline. I always use premium from major brand gas station. I check mileage it adds between 1.2 - 2.4 mpg. Sorry Marcus. For years before EFI it was known was upper cylinder lubricant. A little trans or diesel in the fuel to lubricate the valve guides and break up any varnish or carbon deposits that would develop over time. The mechanical aspects of an injector is very much the same. Some guys would swear by the results from a monthly dose of Marval Mystery oil and then get her out on the highway to blow her out a little.

suggests pulling the injectors but unless a major fuel problem is being corrected I found more damage is done when someone tries to R&R the injectors than the adverse effects of a good bottle of fuel additive. You can hear the cries of the blog here the Lucas product is seemingly one of the better additives on the market. Drive on Dude Lol thanks for the advice I guess its all an experience with mercedes

MERCEDES BENZ CLK II 209 CLK180K Reduce engine oil level malfunction

Hi Gents Long story short. I have purchased my clk200K 3 weeks ago and have done 700 miles so far. The car has been services by specialist garage on the day of purchase. Since then I got Reduce engine oil level malfunction appearing on the display twice. This message will disappear once I have restarted engine. When I go to the menu it says No Malfunction. I am just curious if that is an issue why

I suppose you can only know that if you have experienced driving many models. At the top end (clk 55AMG) you can have 363 hp - but all engine versions have the same chassis. I think that your powerweight ratio is fine and you would not gain much driving pleasure with a bigger engine. What with the price of fuel car tax etc you have to strike a balance somewhere to suit your lifestyle. You possibly

MERCEDES BENZ CLK I 208 Engine Oil Level Sensor (B40) Oil Dipstick Disagreement

Forum members Vehicle is a W208.365 with the M112.940 known to most as a 2002 clk 320. Car has approximately 80k miles. Just changed the oil and the filter last week and shot for 8.0 L total or about the 34 full based on the dipstick. Verified with the instrument cluster that the oil level was OK. I dont have any facilities to remove oil from the car if I overfill. I also cleaned under the car yesterday

Update Before I left for work I manually checked the oil 2 mm below the MAX mark. On the way to work today (42 mi) I got an ENGINE oil LEVEL - STOP ENIGINE OFF at inital start 13 sec. Just for everyones reference based on what I read in Star Classic about the system you wont get any severe oil level warning messages until 13 seconds after the ignition is turned on. 5 minutes in I got the less severe

MERCEDES BENZ CLK II 209 Successful DIY oil change

I had been considering for some time doing the next the oil change on my clk myself - after all how hard could it be First I had to get myself some suitable ramps. Average ramps will not do. I needed ramps that can take a (front) tire width of 225mm minimum and sustain a load of 2 tons over the pair. I also needed to get the car lifted about 8 inches for working comfortably under the car. My engine

With the new O rings in place the new element can be slid up the shaft into position. I then re-installed the new filter assembly into the canister and tightened it to 25nm. Next I removed the sump drain plug under the engine. This has to be done carefully to catch all the oil that will gush out once the plug is totally out. It is possible to almost remove the plug and allow the oil to flow slowly

MERCEDES BENZ CLK I 208 Disconnect oil level sensor

Disconnecting my faulty oil level sensor means that I still get the malfunction message. Does anybody know how to cheat the system i.e. what signal is expected for correct oil level. There are three connecting pins with 5V output on the centre. (Checking oil level by dipstick is good enough for me)

If it were me I would replace the faulty sensor as Im sure I would invest more time and energy trying to figure out how to trick the system versus replacing the faulty part. To me the oil level sensor represents the hands off approach typical of a segment of MB owners but is not quite as ridiculous as the tranny dipstick that resides at the dealership (unless you have your own). I think the vast majority

MERCEDES BENZ CLK I 208 Oil change issues

HELP I recently purchased an 01 clk430. The previous owner had the oil changed just prior to my purchasing. The reduce oil warning can on and before taking possession I had him take the care to the service center and have it siphoned. Since then it continues to present this warning even though the level on the dip stick shows its level between the high and low marks. The mechanic says he trusts the

I agree with previous posters. However this car is new to you so you cannot really trust anything. The oil level sensor is not agreeing with the dipstick so one of them is obviously wrong. It is likely to be the sensor but it could be the wrong dipstick.... So before changing the sensor I would take the dipstick along to the dealership and ask the CS guy to compare its length with a stock item. At

MERCEDES BENZ CLK I 208 Oil smell in passenger compartment

I have noticed lately an oil (motor oil) smell coming from the air vents. I opened the hood and cant find anywhere where it would be leaking. MERCEDES BENZ CLK I 208 Service A Oil & Filter milages change

Howdy all... A noob quistion but need some answers on this since is my first MB I dont really know how the Service Warning indicator works.. The thing is when I bought this car it has just rounded 183.000km and I cant really see when last oilfilter change was done only last year 16-05-2011 it was changed but km is been left out of the service-card else is been followed since its it came on the road

A few points here. MB service is based on ASSYST (active service system) 1. As was stated above if you reset a Service A it will now be set for a Service B and vice-versa. 2. The period between service A & B is calculated in the Instrument Cluster by considering a number of factors a) type of journeys (long or short) b) number of cold starts c) number of high speeds d) based on use of engine oil to

Ok it is that simple Awesome awesome thank you both and come good news in all this I took contact to the car dealer where I bought the car and got confirmed oilfilter was changed in Maj 2011 and the car has been standing still since just waiting to be bought so apparently I got plenty of Ks back before oil change.. But this system is clever I am impressed. Another MB Factor I am stunned about.. Thanks

MERCEDES BENZ CLK II 209 Water in Transmission oil FIX

Hi Im a new member & recently had problems with me clk 2004 transmission & radiator. The problem starts with rough gear changes around 75 to 100K. After some research I noticed there are more than one issue with this transmission & I now believe it may be a compatibility problem between the oil & the seals. I will start with the water in the transmission oil problem. The problem lies in the 2 seals

Hi Alex Change the radiator the Valeo is a major problem & the seals are not available. Ebay has Behr radiators for sale & they are ok. Im not that good on gearboxes I probably would pull the box & lines have it overhauled new seals converter cleaned replace radiator & reassemble with new oil. Or try Keyholes suggestion to replace the radiator & flush the system this is the cheaper option. Brian

MERCEDES BENZ CLK I 208 Yellow sludge on oil cap

I recently did a post about driving and my low oil warning popped up. Put a quart in and havent lost it since but I wanted to check it anyways pulled to cap off and this is what I found Im not sure what could be causing it. Im not losing any coolant so I doubt if its the head gasket. I was thinking maybe my breather covers or valve cover gaskets. Because i know i have a tiny tiny tiny leak on one side

With the car warmed up what does the oil on the dipstick look like Have you done a presure check on the cooling system yet

MERCEDES BENZ CLK II 209 722.633 Transmission Front Oil Pump

Hi everyone A friend of mine has a 03 clk500 and the transmission has been giving him a lot of issues. His trans has been making a noise kind of whining as he describes it until recently when it stopped working completely. The car was taken to the dealer and dealer suggested that the front oil pump and the torque converter needed to be replaced. So he is replacing his transmission with another one

The torque converter is easy and fairly cheap to replace with a rebuilt unit. The pump is more complicated. You have to nearly disassemble the transmission to replace it. My guess is that the TQ failed and threw disintegrated pieces of itself into the system which killed the pump.

MERCEDES BENZ CLK I 208 Could wrong oil cause Timing Chain to go bad

Guy said they would only charge me 12 for the 3 extra quarts which I easily agreed to since each quart cost me 9.75. Anyways today I was driving back from visiting my mom for her BDay which is a

Well - there is certainly no ignition happening there. You need 1. spark plug operation 2. fuel. I would check the fuel system. Pull a plug and see if it is wet with petrol. If not check your fuel pump relay or fuse. Also you can check the fuel rail for pressure.

MERCEDES BENZ CLK II 209 Changing my oil

Recently purchased a 2006 clk 350 and am going to change the oil. I looked at lots of different cans looking for the MB 229.5 spec and could not find it on any. I finally just bought some Mobil 1 5w 30. I could find no viscosity recommendations in my owners manual either. About 40k miles on the car. Should I be okay with this choice

But I LIKE getting under the car. Plus I can check out the suspension bits power steering for leaks etc while there. I might get one of those pumps just for he heck of it though. It is one piece of equipment I dont have. Wish it could hook up to my air compressor system to pump though.

MERCEDES BENZ CLK I 208 Fiberglass cover for top leaking oil

I was doing some detailing work on the 430 cabrio yesterday. The top was down and wed been out and about earlier. I wanted to get some leather conditioner onto the backs of the rear headrests and that area so I started the lift sequence for the top and once the back cover was up at 90-degrees I left it there. I walked around the rear of the car and noticed a bit of oil dripping from the fiberglass cover onto the trunk lid. Anyone know what that would be from and what I need to check Thanks Dan
