MERCEDES BENZ SL 107 Newbie with a query about front shock absorbers dampers

Ive go KYBs on mine. Seem to do the job. I think the Bilsteins are the firmest shocks for these. But I really dont see the point. These are hardly performance cars.

MERCEDES BENZ CLASS M W163 Loud Noise. left front shock absorber

Hi everyone. Ive a 2002 ML 320 and recently i noticed that when the left front shock absorber goes all the way down i hear a loud noise like its hitting on metal or something. i dont hear the noise if it only goes half way down only when it goes all the way down. maybe something is loose or something. Has anyone had this problem Thanks.

Considering that a good working damper is crucial to stability of a vehicle with a high roll center it would fair to say it borders on serious. If an emergency avoidance issue arises and you are leaning hard on the failed shock and hit big bump or pothole bad things could happen. Seeing as they are one of the easiest things to DIY or have a mechanic replace I would get a pair of the Sachs or new design Bilstiens and change both front shock as they should be replace in pairs.

Cant remember us using damper in England shock absorber is more our type of word however even this has changed to shocks by the younger guys (must be the texting influence shox) Tickover & Silencer yes though we have always refered to the downpipefront & back box as a whole to being the exhaust system. The trouble is that Englands English has been bastardised by so many different countries who is to say which words are correct.

MERCEDES BENZ CLASS V 6382 W639 Uprated front dampers

15000 miles ago i fitted 40mm lowering springs to my Vito Sport x and I now suspect that the poor old standard dampers are going off the boil. The front just seems more floaty than normal and over choppy surfaces this is not a nice feeling. What I need are uprated dampers but can I find any. No I cannot. I have looked all over the internet but no one seems to have heard of folks doing this. (Even if

MERCEDES BENZ CLASS S I 126 300SD Shock Absorber Replacement Rear Seat Removal

I just replaced the shocks in my 300SD with KYB Gas-A-Just shocks (www.oneclickautoparts.com). Here are some tips that will help you if youre going to do this one yourself -On the front shocks the bolts that hold the shock to the control arms dont have normal hex heads. They are somewhere in the 10-11mm range but I couldnt get any size socket to fit them. The only tool that worked was a 10mm craftsman

Now that Ive replaced the rear shocks Im starting to think it might not be the worst notion to change out the fronts even though they didnt seem that bad before I had new shocks on the rear to compare them to. Then I need to look into the little shrimpy dampers next to the motor mounts...

MERCEDES BENZ CLASS C I 202 HELP THE REAL TRUTH ABOUT C36 FRONT ENDS

I have just gotten KUMHO ASX All Season tires all the way around for my 1997 C36. How do I tell that they are for real How do I test or get the front end diagnoised properly When on the rack the front wheel can be moved and when on the ground the body does move separate

The car is a W202 and they all suffer high wear on the front suspension and steering. The wear parts are the steering tie rod (comes as a complete unit) ball joints and lower control arm bushings and steering damper shock strut. The C36 exerts greater stresses on these parts and you can expect them to wear even quicker. However the good news is that mercedes built 5 million W202s and the suspension

MERCEDES BENZ CLK I 208 Front Lower Ball Joints & Steering Damper DIY

Hello all I finally got around to replacing the ball joints and the steering damper. I have a 00 CLK 320. It was VERY hard to the ball joints. Steering damper was easy. I do have pictures they are not the best. But they work. First off let me start by saying that I assume no liability for the pictures or information in this thread. ok now that we got that out of the way. Lets start. first what i did

Hi - thanks for this very interesting post. Ive done front brake pads and discs (rotors) before and found it fairly easy. Do you think the ball joint would be easier to do (better access and better light etc.) if you had hung up the brake calliper (no need to disconnect the hydraulic line) and removed the rotor dust shield I also wonder if removing the shock absorber (damper) would allow more height to be gained when lifting lowering the lower control arm relative to the hub RMR

MERCEDES BENZ CLASS E III 211 Will there be a model year 2006 E350 4Matic

The Autoweek report and confirmation that the E350 will be available in the US beginning next month (February) is silent on the subject of whether there will also be a E350 4Matic. I recall that the E500 4Matic remains without the availability of the new 7 speed transmission and it is reported that this is the transmission that comes with the E350. This suggests we may not see a E350 4Matic in the near future - at least in the US.

at least for the European market but without the 7-speed AT. The reason is that the transfercase and the shortly longer 7-speed AT does not fit in the E-class. I have a E350T 4Matic myself on order with the new again for the European market AMG sportspackage with lowered suspension (lower that a backwheeldrive) and my dealer told me it is delayed untill begining of february (4 weeks delay). MERCEDES BENZ CLASS C II 203 C32 AMG or C43 AMG

Right now i drive a 420SEL. So far I have put a Magnaflow exhaust system K&N airfilter and am putting new rims on tomorrow. However In June I am planning on buying either a C32 or an older C43. The C32 is only a hair faster but if i get the c43 i will have money left over to supercharge it then it would kill a C32. . I have also heard of some problems with the C32s but so far nothing about the c 43.

the inside is lifted and the outside pushes into the ground and the sidewall flexes and maybe even touches the pavement. There are other reasons why the C32 understeers like it does in stock form as well. The good thing is the C32 can be inexpensively modified so the driving enthusiast can have a very neutral minimally understeering vehicle. The C32 has a different front suspension than the C43. mercedes-benz

Ah yes...the always-thrilling death wobble. I used to have a couple of vehicles which did this. One a 67 Dodge A-108 forward-control passenger van. MERCEDES BENZ CLASS S IV 220 Disapointed with W220 Ride vs W140

Hi I just upgraded from 1996 S320 W140 to 2000 S500 V220. I think there must be something wrong with the suspension on the V220. The W140 was much smoother and handled rough roads very smoothly. The V220 is extreemly smooth on a smooth road and handles a lot better than the W140 but if it sees a small bump it vibrates as if there is no damping. I had the car checked out by a Merc Dealer and they gave

First of all what could the shake possibly be It has been examined by the local dealer on at least five ocassions to no avail. What about the

The G-wagen has always been sensitive up front. The front wheel bearings are about the only weak link in the whole vehicle. It has long been a theory of mine that the new offset that pushes the wheels further out is part of the problem. It undoubtably places higher loads on those bearings. The common fix for this and the dealer should know it is an updated firmer steering damper. It is the shock absorber

Could this be a factor in the mushing feel of the laterial handling of the vehicle

MERCEDES BENZ CLASS G Took the G out for a ride this weekend

Took the G out for a ride this weekend and at highway speed when I hit a bump I get a walbly feedback in the stearing wheel like an unbalance wheel as if the wheel is bouncing around. As with any mercedes-benz the vehicles history is important. Regular service and maintenance are crucial and given this a W124 or W201 model should have a long life. Major mechanical components are long lasting. All engines in these models are capable of surviving to huge mileages in typically mercedes fashion. Whilst all these engines are long lasting with bottom end work being almost unheard of there
