JEEP LIBERTY CHEROKEE Evaporative Small Leak Rest

My daughters 03 liberty threw a Evaporative system small leak detected code which I highly suspect was due to her failure to tighten the gas cap. I reset it after I scanned. I assume that code would have reset itself after a certain number of engine cold warm startup cycles. Does anyone know what the reset cycle for the transient faults is on a liberty

I believe it takes 50 warm up cycles. A warm-up cycle happens when all of the following conditions exist 1. Engine is running 2. A raise of 40F in engine temperature must occur ABOVE the engine temperature at start-up 3. Engine Coolant Temp must reach at least 160 F.

Just unhook the battery for 10min and be done. If the gas cap doesnt fix it then check the hoses and such infront of the gas tank. The evap box is there and some of the hoses going to it dry and crack causing leaks.

Thanks guys After reset I got the same fault pending. I found a split in a small rubber hose connecting the plastic tube to the solenoid valve about 1 foot back from the front of the jeep just inside the top of the left fender. From the looks of the hose (multiple splits lengthwise) I suspect hers is not the only one with this deteriorated hose. So I apparently blamed her incorrectly Ross

JEEP LIBERTY CHEROKEE check enginesmall emission system leak

i just bought an 03 sport with 77000. the check engine light came on after only 150 miles. scanned it ... detected small emission system leak. Any ideas where i should look

Its your gas cap.... almost guarenteed... You either didnt give it its usual 3 clicks or the rubber gasket has a tear in it..... Its under 10 at autozone

thanks for the reply Gr8Swammee... that did the trick just took a few starts to turn off. I guess i should have research a little harder before starting a new post. thanks again

I have the same problem on my 03 but it isnt the gas cap. I suspect I might have a leak in a hose back by the tank. I will be looking it over soon to hopefully figure it out. I know others have had a similar leak back there.

I now have the same problem with the wifes liberty. Ive replaced the Gas cap once and have cleared the Fault codes three times It keeps coming back Anybody else have this problem Ive done everything I can think of other than pulling the gas tank. I guess that is the next step Were close to 100000 miles now so I expect some problems soon.

JEEP LIBERTY CHEROKEE Small Evaporative leak detected...trouble code P0452 and P0455

Everyone will tell you that you need to get a new gas cap. But....there is something else to check when you get this trouble code. Up inside the frame rail on the drivers side next to the exhaust there are four metal tubes that follow the frame rail. There are two rubber hoses about four inches long that are exposed to the heat if the cat These hoses are part of the exaporative system and will leak

Check all the rubber hoses. I found 4 different pieces of hose that were bad 2 under the hood 2 back by the gas tank. After replacing all the hoses and resetting the codes the error came back and the jeep was hard to start after getting gas. This is an indication of the solenoid valve going bad. I got lucky and after I tapped it a few time it worked again and no check engine light for a month and no

JEEP LIBERTY CHEROKEE Could a Head Gasket Leak on 2003 Liberty be mis diagnosed

Hi folks. My wife just bought a used 2003 jeep liberty Limited with 71k on the clock. We noticed a couple of oil spots under it the day after we brought it home but thought it might have came from the oil filter as it had just been serviced and the oil and filter had been changed. A few days later and the oil was still dripping so I had a look under it. I couldnt really trace exactly where it was coming

I see what appears to be a rear main seal leak on the top pic though in theory your oil pan could be leaking there as well(if an oil pan is leaking chances are it will leak elsewhere too and no one saw that). Bottom pic I see the oil filler neck where it bolts to the front of the head. Important to note for clarification purposes that is not a timing belt in your pic that is the drive belt for the

Thanks for your input Streetglideok. I can confirm that my wifes jeep liberty is a 2003 3.7 litre V6 Automatic 4WD. Thanks for putting me right about the Timing chain and the Drive belt. Weve just moved from the UK and weve always been used to smaller cars with small engines in them so looking inside the engine bay of her jeep for me is like learning a whole new language theres so much in there its

Thanks for the kind words. Keep in mind the liberty is a small vehicle in this country. We like our cars and trucks biglol. Also the oil leak is not the end of the world. Though the rear main leak is getting to the point of annoyance you dont have to fix it right now. It wont self destruct. Ive seen a lot of cars from your side of the pond that leaked a lot worselol. I dont think its a matter of who

JEEP LIBERTY CHEROKEE EVAP System Leak how do you find it

Ok so I got stupid yesterday and bought the hand held code reader from the auto parts store to read codes in my 2002 liberty ( there was not anyone there that could take 5 minutes to walk outside and read the codes for me so I got mad and just bought the 280 computer ). It states there is a small leak in the EVAP system. I have a basic level of mechanical aptitude and can usually fix most minor things

JEEP LIBERTY CHEROKEE Liberty Power Steering Leak

Just took my wifes liberty in for an oil change at the local Firestone. About a week ago I noticed a small leak. I took a look and it appeared oil was coming from the oil filter I couldnt tighten it so hoped that the oil change would resolve it. This morning at Firestone the mechanic showed me that it wasnt oil but power steering fluid. He couldnt tell if it was the hose sensor or reservoir that was

JEEP LIBERTY CHEROKEE My wifes new 2005 Liberty leaks water

Hi all Im new here so i apologize if this question has been asked before so here it goes. My wife and i just bought a 2005 liberty with 18000 miles on it and noticed water dripping from underneath it. I found the leak is coming from a hose (opened on the end) sticking out of the firewall. Is this just condensation If it is wouldnt it be caused by the AC being on It was 52 degrees outside so we didnt

It is condensate. If the AC compressor comes on at all (when the Defrost or DefrostFloor) is selected on the dial. The compressor is sometimes so quiet it cannot be heard. JEEP LIBERTY CHEROKEE [Pic] 2006 Liberty Command-Trac leak

My Dad just bought a 2006 liberty with the 3.6L motor Command-Trac and 39k miles. I noticed a small leak under the car and it seems to be coming from where the transfer case mounts to the transmission. I think the fluid is running down to the bottom of the transfer case and it drips from an area right in front of the crossmember. Is this a common problem and what is the fix for this

JEEP LIBERTY CHEROKEE unique oil leak

We have a new 06 liberty v6 with 4800 miles. It has developed a small oil leak. It is on the front of the right cylinder head. It is the cylinder head access plug. One of the lower ac compressor mounting bolts is threaded into it. The oil is not from the plastic oil filler neck. I cleaned the whole area drips of oil will leak from under the plug when it is running. I would like to know if anybody has had a leak like this Thanks.

JEEP LIBERTY CHEROKEE Where do I begin Hard to start Coolant Leak

Hi All I have two problems with my 03 jeep liberty. They may be related. Radiator leak There is a radiator leak. I bought some of that radiator seal stuff that you put in with the coolant. I think it has worked to some degree (stopped the pinhole leak) but there is still some leakage that is occurring. I bought the correct coolant and topped it off where in the past I may have bought the green stuff

I would suggest you get the coolant in there take it to a dealership and invest 90 in a cooling system flush as soon as possible. That Bars-leak Stop leak or whatever you used will kill your engine if you leave it in there. If the stuff is designed to fill small passages it does not know whether that passage is a leak or a small designed passage - like the majority of your radiator. When you put in the thermostat be sure to put the nose or cone of the thermostat INTO the block and not pointing out toward the hose and the radiator. Otherwise it will work backwards and close off the coolant as the engine gets hotter. And thats not good -) The water pump was likely your issue with overheating - the difficulty starting g is probably something else though running these engines got for any length of time will damage them. JEEP LIBERTY CHEROKEE Evap Purge Solenoid & Natural Vacuum Leak Dectector Assembly - Need to Replace.HELP

The check engine light was on on my jeep liberty 2004 3.7 Liter. I took to the dealer and they said P0040 General Evap System Failure found purge solenoid not holding vacuum and leak detector not switching properly. Recommend replacement of evap purge solenoid and natural vacuum leak detector assembly They wanted 400 to replace the purge solenoid a job that took me 5 minutes and a 40 part... however..

will see that no matter which one you disconnect the engine will shut down. So if you disconnect all three with or without the engine on it will reset it. You will then have to drive 40 to 60 miles for the computer to find faults. I would say check the gas cap. I had 3 codes. I found one hose on the solenoid was starting to fray I changed it. Blow out that filter on the small round canister. My jeep
