JEEP COMPASS I CompassTempAuto dim mirror swap (detailed with lots-o-pics)

I saw this mod in someone elses post but the write up was vague and lacked the wiring diagram so I decided to do my own after finishing up my mirror swap. The particular mirror youll need to locate came on multiple GM models in different versions but the one your looking for is the 7 pin model most commonly found from 1995-2002 in Chevy and GMC trucks and full size SUVs also known as Gentex model number

Nice job on the wiring. This is a mod thats on my shortlist however I want a mirror that also has Homelink buttons. Another option for the inside wiring for those of us who have older TJs without the plastic trim is to actually run it inside the windshield frame. Someone on here did it (Oman jeep maybe) and looked really good. He drilled a small hole in the bottom of the frame right above the mirror.

great work i have this mirror and the conector for about a year and never got into installing it thanks now i have all the info one thing I have an 03 tj when you remove the plastic windshield vent ( in front of the dashboart) there is a connector there it appears to be prewired for this type of mirrors does anybody know

JEEP COMPASS I Auto dimming rearview mirror with compass and temperature install

Since we all love cool junkyard swaps here is one I have recently done and really like. Many late model GM vehicles have auto dimming rear view mirrors with built in compass and temerature displays. What I found neat about these are they are self contained units. Meaning they are not controlled by the vehicle they are installed in. They only need power ground and a temperature sensor to work. Now there

JEEP COMPASS I Compass

I am wanting to put a compass in my TJ. I cant decide between just buying a new mirror with it or getting one that can go on the Dash. Does anyone have any suggestions Links are appreciated if you know it... Thanks Gantt

The mirror compass involves wiring. So more money more effort. I prefer the compass in my head but I do have a small ball compass that I can stick on the windshield with a suction cup. There is also the Orienteering compass I keep in the glove box. Have had that since I was a young boy. My kids got me an electronic compass (batteries not included) that I can attach using the velcro right in front of

Got a compass that sticks on the corner of the mirror of my wifes VW the sensor attaches on the windshield. Wally World had them for 30 they are entirely self powered with a watch battery and they are calibrated by driving in a circle. I believe it was Bell branded but it looks factory save for the sensor which is invisible behind the mirror. The only down side is relatively short battery life. The

JEEP COMPASS I Rear View Mirror with Compass and Temp

I was thinking about putting a auto-dimming Rear View Mirror with the compass and the temp in my 2004 Sport. How hard is this to do. A buddy of mine says all jeeps are pre-wired for it and there are connectors behind the radio is this true Thanks in advance

I installed the compass mirror on my 98. I added aftermarket stuff in it so it absolutely had nothing that I could use. Hardest part was to fish the wires through the windshield frame. I believe new TJs have the plastic surrounds around the windshield making the wire hiding much easier. If that is the case even if the mirror is not factory add on I cant imaging it being hard to do. Look behind the top center plastic windshield bezel and see if you have any wiring or pig tail. Michael K.

The mirror comes with a harness to connect to the connector underneath the defroster

you really dont. You might want to check before you start your installation and then find out you dont have the sensor you need. My 06 LJ was not prewired for the temperature function (and it only had the ambientengine temp sensor installed not the temp mirror sensor) but it was easy to add a junkyard mirror and sensor from a Suburban. Heres what the parts look like on the workbench And in the jeep

JEEP WRANGLER Compass Not Working Soft Top Noise

OK so I bought a new 07... love it. Simple 2dr jeep green 17 wheels- dealer had exactly the car I wanted on the lot. The vehicle had a hard top- convinced them to switch it to a soft top. I drove the vehicle for a week and realized there is way too much wind noise coming from where the top meetsseals with the windshield (across the top). Im not talking about when Im driving at 50mph... I experience

JEEP CHEROKEE Compass

I want to put a compass in my jeep as Im always getting lost and trying to figure out what way im going by looking at the sun which doesnt work too good now that its winter and the sun goes down at like 400. Anyone know of any sleek looking compasses or a cool place to mount one

I mounted one (I think it was an Airfix or something like that) in my 86 ... the only place I could mount it without getting magnetic interference from the radio heater electrical system was between the rear view mirror and the headliner on the inside of the windshield with the supplied double sided tape. Worked really good there until my windshield leaked and flooded the works. Got a new windshield now so I should replace the compass

JEEP COMPASS I elec overhead compass n temp gauge FIXXX diagram

1990 laredo My gauge would flicker over bumps and when raining i figuer there is a bad connection i was wondering if anyone had wiring diagram for the gauge i know the temp gauge is in middle of front bumper from there im lost ahah and how much is a new unit and where do i buy besides dealer. ALSO anyone know of a cheap 90 keyless entry button best i found was 80 THanks in advance

Having a FSM would help you diagnose the problem you have. First there are a set of instructions to diagnose the erratic compass problem. There is a procedure to degause the area surrounding the compass which will solve your issue there. I have followed the procedure and my compass in my 91 works perfectly. Second the manual states that if the vehicle is in an area where the temp changes significantly

JEEP COMPASS I Compass mounting location

Well I just figured out why the fancy digital compass my wife gave me for my new 07 hasnt been working right. There is all kinds of magnetic interference in this truck. I bought a small floating ball type compass at the auto parts store and figured out that the ONLY place I could mount it so that it gave an accurate reading was in the center of the windshield mid way between the dash and the rearview

JEEP COMPASS I wiring diagram for 2005 electronic compass

Does anyone know where I can find the wiring diagram for the electronic compass primarily wire colors and instrument cluster hook up locations I need the four prong hook up. My Haynes manual shows me two wires (whtorg & whtblk) I need pin locations in the instrument cluster and pin locations in the compass connector. Any and all help would be appreciated.

Thanx SSCULLY I was hoping you would chime in. How do I determine which is pin 1 on the compass Would pin 1 be the one closest to windshield or the one closest to the inside of the cabin The connector on the compass runs sideways parallel with the side of the truck. I hope I was able to ask that clearly.

JEEP WRANGLER windshield wiper arm removel

I want to take the cowel section off the jeep to clean it out the vent area but I cant seem to get the wiper arms off anybody know how Thanks

I am also attempting to clean under my cowl and I cannot get my the windshield wiper arm to disengage. Im driving a 2008 jeep compass. I remove the cap on the wiper assembly and then removed the bolt under that. I dont see anything described as above to release the arm. Any pointers Edit moving post to correct forum

JEEP COMPASS I Electronic Compass & Outside Temp

Does anyone know of an electronic compass with an outside temperature gauge These gauges have been available on cars since at least the early 80s but I cant find one for our jeeps... not even a dash mount module. Ive seen the clinometer from smittybuilt with the antique ball compass but no temp gauge.

I had to add the harness that plugs in at the mid top of the dash goes up the right side and across the windshield frame. All the other wiring was in place. I wanted the factory wiring since i had already bought the harness for my 2002 but never installed itadapted it. I had bought a compass templighthome link mirror from Ebay. I did have to change the connector at the mirror end of the factory harness.

JEEP COMPASS I Compass for 2nd Gen

JEEP COMPASS I Coolgood places to install a compass

I just want a simple little ball compass and was wondering where you guys have installed yours The only thought i have as of right now is this Cut a round hole in that dash (on the left side of the wheel btwn the cluster and the door) Then put the compass under and just have the top half of the compass sphere be visible which is typiaclly the only marked surfave anyways. What do you guys think of this idea Any other suggestions & pics

JEEP WRANGLER Rearview mirror w compass temp

I searched rearview mirror but didnt find any threads addressing my issue. So I bought and had one installed but Im not a big fan of the wires being so visible. Any one have any clever ways to hide the wires They are zip tied to the visor supports now. Theres two wires going each way and down the sides of the windshield. You can really only see the wires from the mirror until they meet the visors.

I didnt hide it to well . I just figured Oh well its a jeep and live with it . I wrapped it in tape and ran it where the roof meets the windshield frame. Maybe one of the newer TJs with the added trim pieces that cover the windshield frame would give ya an idea .

JEEP COMPASS I [How to] GENK31 Auto dimming mirror wmaplights temp and compass display

I found it on ebay for 189. This model is different then the other how to threads. No drilling required. 1 hour to install. This model is ideal if you dont have a garage door opener or if you have the Chemist door opener mod installed like me. That will save you about 200 on the mirror. Additional items requried is a fuse tap. Im not sure what amperage is required so I used a 10 amp tap. I also routed

heck yeah...this rules. funny story i was at the auto glass replacement place (long story) but the short of it is i was getting my windshield replace and notice the same genk31 unit on display and have been looking to get an auto dimming mirror installed and decided to go ahead and have them install it when they did the windshield. will be getting my car back later today. cant wait to see the unit

JEEP COMPASS I Attempting to add temp and compass to 10 XL

Has anyone done this Ive read on here that most of the wiring harness are in the vehicle and usually it just takes the last remaining parts. I can verify that the temperature probe loom is under the hood but needs the probe. I am curious about the headliner loom. Is it just hiding there and needs the compass that connects to the mirror or is it a big deal to add that Thanks in advance

I have an 09 XL and after doing some searching the harnesses may be there but the sensor for the temp isnt. I ended up going and getting a new rearview mirror with temp compass and homelink integrated. Then it was just a matter of running the wiring which if youve done a stereo you can handle. It just requires power and running the wiring for the temp probe. The model I got was a Gentex 313. Its a

JEEP COMPASS I How to fix compass and temperature readout LED(part 1)

03 F150 FX4 5.4 Its been about 6 months now since my over head temperature and compass readout stopped working. JEEP COMPASS I Rear view mirror with compass

After many months of trial and error and lots of bad ebay purchases Ive come up with a plug-and-play option for a rear view mirror with a compass with the correct display color to match the 89-96 C4 dash illumination. The mirror also retains the map lights and the courtesy light function of the map lights when the door opens. I also added an orange LED for the ambient light on the console just like

My 86 has wiring in the windshield header. There is a 3 pin connector just to the left of the rear view mirror mount. I think it was supposed to be for a vanity mirror in the drivers sun visor. JEEP COMPASS I Auto dimming mirror with compass & temp

Hey all Does anybody know if the 06 GTO is pre-wired for a mirror like this TIA Chris.

I am looking at getting one as well there are several on ebay under 100. Question for those of you that installed already...looks like the wire routing from the mirror under the headliner edge near the windshield would be easy as there is a gap but how about along the side rail Looks pretty flush there. How did you do it Also what about mounting to the windshield...did you leave the stock metal plate in place or take the whole thing off

JEEP WRANGLER Wire around windshield frame...

So I have read on here how people have run wire around the windshield frame and was wondering how they fished it through the frame. Does anyone have any good ideas I was thinking a thin gauge wire fish it from hole to hole around the windshield then use it as a pull wire. Just not sure how to get from point A to B... Oh and its to install a rear view mirror with lights..

Hhmmmm I never thought about getting one with a compass and temp in it I was just thinking it would be nice to have the map lights. What else did you have to hook up for the temp and compass Just an extra power wire

JEEP COMPASS I Compass-Temp Readout ErraticBlank

Go ahead and roll your eyes at the tech issue at hand but Ill be quite honest and say it bugs the pooh out of me that the factory mirror readout is not working... The LED map lights work as does the auto dim feature but the compass and temp readout are usually blank but have worked a couple of times. Does anyone know much about these things Ive got the FSM and have the pinout info to check this evening

Check and reseat the connector on the back of the mirror. I had the same problem after I had my windshield replaced.

JEEP COMPASS I Overhead console issue - tempcompass not working

First time poster here but have lurked from time to time for a while. I have a 2007 Tacoma with the temperature gaugeelectronic compass over head center. This cluster also has sunglasses holder and the two over head lights. The temperature gaugeelectronic compass no longer lights up. No amount of pressing the button (this cycles it from std. to metric to off) will turn this display back on. For a week

Mission accomplished gentleman. It was pretty easy. I will share with the 3 other Tacoma owners I work with... theirs may fail next Now I need a new windshield (rock crack)... been one damn thing after another this week... -Kevin

JEEP COMPASS I Is Compass located in rearview mirror

Ive got an 04 F150 that I bought used. The compass doesnt work it just displays two lines under the outside temp reading like this -- Also the wiring harness that plugs into the rearview mirror is unplugged. Ive been reluctant to plug the unit back in because of the crazy stereo system (and other after-market electronics) that also came with the truck. So if I plug this thing in right (if possible)

yes it should work if plugged back in. it may display cal for a while untill it calibrates itself. my guess is the windshield got replaced and they forgot to plug it back in.

JEEP COMPASS I How to remove compass

My compass in a 06 taco doesnt work. I found a really nice thread on it possibly being a broken solder joint or transistor so i want to try it but cant get the thing off.. Figure id rather ask first how to safely pull it before i learn the hard way

Open the sunglass holder and there should be 2 bolts you need to remove. Then get your fingers between the edges of the console and the headliner on the windshield end and gently but firmly tug downwards. Be careful not to lose the clips that hold it in place.

Then you need to seperate the display from the console. There are 4 small pressure tabs that hold it in place be careful not to break these. edit If your a window tinter in Charlotte I will do it for you for the price of a windshield strip

JEEP COMPASS I Removing Roof Mount Display (Compass & Temp) on 03

I was wondering if anyone knows how to remove the overhead display that has the temperature and compass on a 03 F150 (It also has the switch for the moonroof). I dont see anyplace for screws and it doesnt look like something that would just pop off. If anyone has dealt with it and has some pointers I would be very grateful. Thanks

I removed the one on my 03 SCrew to get power for my radar detector. There is one screw up front near the windshield. I did not notice mine at first either but I had almost stand on my head to see it. After you remove that one screw the back end is just held in with friction clips. Hope this helps.
