JEEP CHEROKEE Possible Problem With Power Steering

every morning when i start my jeep up i back outta the drive way and turn the wheel to the right to pull off and at the first second of my wheel turning its like it doesnt have power steering for just 1 second then it frees up like theres alot of resistance on the wheel at first then its fine afterwards was just wandering if this is a sign of a near death power steering pump or....something else possibly

JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE Power Steering Pulley (or oh f not again)

Went out for a drive the other night backroads through the mountains around here got about a block away from home and pull up to a stop light. wump wump thud [expletive] Pulled over and wandered back to where I was stopped yep picked the power steering pulley off the ground and took it back to the car. This is the third time my ZJ has spit out the power steering pulley (they must taste bad). The last

JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE 1993 ZJ steeringhandling... do they normally wander around a lot

Ive just been given (for free) a 1993 ZJ Limited with full-time 4WD by a friend who has emigrated. Hes had it for 2 years. The interior is certainly showing its age but hey its a free ZJ Ive just driven it for the first time and the power steering is incredibly light in fact theres no road feel communicated through the wheel at all. The car also had a tendency to wander a bit nothing major but noticeable. Are those two things normal and expected

JEEP LIBERTY CHEROKEE Freeway wandering - alignment needed

Hi All. I have a 2005 Liberty (4x4 stock tires no mods) and have a problem with its freeway behavior. Basically it takes constant small steering adjustments to keep the thing going straight much more than any other vehicle Ive owned. You dont dare fiddle with the radio or look away from the road for more than a few seconds. It doesnt pull one way or the other just wont go straight without a lot of

have had to order parts too. It turned out to be both the upper control arm and the left lower control arm. They were shot. I have them...maybe Chrysler will figure out there is an issue at some point and will recall. The local mechanic who use to work for Ford for twenty years ( so do feel hes experienced and do trust these guys)...thought it was a design issue and even with what I use the jeep

JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE Power steering to manual swap

Anyone know what manual steering box can bolt right on to a 1997 jeep grand cherokee Id also like the gearing as low as possible. Id like to be able to remove the pump and steering box in one piece then put them in a plastic bag to keep the internals clean Thanks

Im wondering about the same thing.. I see absolutely no reason or any type of situation where youd need slower steering (more turn lock-to-lock) no matter if on the trails or highways. Are you having issues with the current system dont you have enough power on the power steering or what If its about lack of power on the trails get a PSC high power pump fluid cooler or hydro assist. You can also swap

Could someone help me get some direction on how to proceed. I just bought a 96 Laredo 217K L6 (POS) 1) The power brakes arent working at all but it has brakes its just a test of strength to stop and you can hear a loud hissing... 2) After you drive for a while 15-20 min. it will start missing and lose power backfire and die... but........ JEEP CHEROKEE Cherokee steering wanders....

Hi all Im new to the site. I have a couple of questions and noticed that the search function is disabled. I recently bought a 97 cherokee 4x4 thats in like new condition. JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE Wandering steering

I have a wandering jeep and have been preparing to adjust the steering box per the sticky. This morning I noticed a piston that seems to be leaking. Could this be the source of my loose steering

JEEP CHEROKEE replaced all TREs but still wanders road

i replaced all the tierodends including the long tierod that goes from the box to the axle. the problem started with loose steering then the car startedto wander. i adjusted the steering box little by little until i couldnt adjust it any more. fixed a little of the play but no where near all of it i replaced all the tie rods and that also helpped to get rid of some play but yet again not all. it still

JEEP CHEROKEE what does a bad power steering box feel like

Im pretty sure my steering box has gone out but I want to know if anyone else has replaced one and what it felt like before. Right now it drives fine until about 50 then it is hard to keep it in a lane. I have checked all of my linkage and arms and everything is tight with no play. The steering box is the last thing i can think of. There has always been quite a bit of side to side play in the steering wheel and it drove fine.

Normally when a pump goes it fails to pump enough fluid and it makes low speedstopped steering difficult. Highway speed wandering is indicative of worn suspensionsteering components.

Now that I think about it a bad bearing on the steering box output shaft would cause wandering...

JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE power steering box PRO question

I got the new box tie rod ends - all. this one is grand cherokee limited 5.2 with 180000 miles previous maintenance is unknown. start to remove all the old stuff Looks like must remove wheels to properly get at the tie rod ends thats ok have break parts to install too Now One is the box actually bad steering wheel is not straight to wheels some drift correction is required but the tie rod ends x4 are

I would not mess with the steering gear until you have fixed everything else. The wheel is cockeyed because you need to adjust the drag link sleeve. Get under there and loosen the sleeve then turn it one way or the other to center the wheel then tighten it back up. They do that for you when you get an alignment. A good shop will not align a vehicle with worn out steering components. Also worn out control arm bushings and sway bar bushings will cause wander too.

JEEP CHEROKEE 99 sport issues

Hi new jeep converted driver here. I have a few issues with my 99 cherokee sport with auto trans. First off I have done a tune up because it started and idled rough till it warmed up. I replaced the cap rotor plugs and wires. No apparent change. Then i had to replace a rusted brake line to the rear and replaced the radiator and thermostat due to overheating issues. Now the issues I still have are that

The engine could also be a TPS issue or stiff linkage maybe but cleaning the IAC and throttle body is a good place to start. The steering could be the any number of things the dead spot you feel in the power steering may be a steering box problem if i remember correctly i think they are adjustable to some degree. Or it could have excessive play in the steering linkages have someone turn the wheel while

JEEP CHEROKEE POSSIBLE Death Wobble Cure No. 92649

Awhile back I told about how at the end of June of this year my wife had brought my 1996 to Midas to have them check the exhaust and how as a result we got the infamous Midas bad-touch. JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE 4.7 V8 Hate

angles when the suspension is set for factory ride height. Caster needs to be near factory specs or else you will have steering problems. JEEP CHEROKEE Oil Pressure Sender and interior lights

Well I have a new 94 cherokee with gauges instead of idiot lights but my oil pressure gauge it acting.. odd. When its off it doesnt go down to zero but right below 40 then when i start the engine it goes from right below 40 to past 80.. takes about 45 degree spin to the right.. I wasnt sure if this could be caused by a bad pressure sender or the gauge arm is messed up. I have really no history of the

JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE II WJ Monroe Shocks and SS 04 GC RM Road Handling

When I bought the 04 GC Rocky Mountain Edition a year and a half ago I replaced all of the shocks and SS with Monroe Sensatrac units. Probably a bad move. I have a knock in the rear when I go over bumps that most likely is the upper mounts. As others have noted the upper shock mount is not quite wide enough for the bracket. It could be the upper control armball joint since I noted the rubber bushings

Been dealing with these things all year myself. Firstly sensatrac on a stock vehicle should be fine. I perfer going different and have in the past used rancho5000s without issues but this time around went with procomp which gives a stiffer ride Ive been finding. Anyways the only issues with shocks Ive had are the rears and that is with the bushings. Too soft and they tearget loose which cause clunking

JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE II WJ 97 Jeep Grand Cherokee 5.2l rebuild help

My 1997 jeep Grand cherokee Laredo was making a knocking sound which according to the mechanic is a bad main bearing. He also said that because of the metal coming from the bearings it needs to be rebuilt. Technically I am about to graduate from high school and this is my dads car at this point so I have to first off convince him not to get rid of it. If I am able to rebuild it I may be able to keep

I found out that I may be able to take it to my uncles farm to rebuild it. He also builds race cars so he is very experienced. I know the crankshaft will need work or replacement but I think that part wont be too bad if the machine shop does crankshaft work. My uncle also has all of the tools needed to work on most engines I am wandering about the distributor. How does that work Does anybody have suggestions
