JEEP CHEROKEE code 463 Fuel Level Sensor Circuit High Input

98 cherokee code 463 fuel level sensor Circuit High Input How do I fix this code it is keeping me from passing my emissions test due to keeping my check engine light on. I finally figured out my other error code was the neutral safety switch and now i am dealin with this one. THANKS

Sounds to me like you might need a new fuel sending unit. Does your gas gauge work Some Fords (I work at a Ford dealer) will set the code if you try and squeeze every drop you can in the fuel tank the fuel sender will stay at full too long and set the code. Id say if your gas gauge doesnt work its definitely the sender.

JEEP CHEROKEE Fault codes P0133 P0132 P0463 -- O2 sensor and fuel level gauge

I pulled my codes and if anyone is available to help me fix the problems Id appreciate it. P0132 - O2 sensor Circuit High Voltage (Bank 1 sensor 1) P0463 - fuel level sender voltage wrong P0133 - O2 sensor Circuit Slow Response (Bank 1 sensor 1) Reads like theres a problem with both the fuel gauge and sensor 1 O2 sensor. Should I go ahead and replace both Or is there anything I can try to fix the issues

Check the O2 sensor wires and plugs for corrosion or damage. Reset the codes. If any O2 sensor codes return you will probably have to replace the O2 sensor. fuel level sender voltage means something is wrong with the sender inside the fuel tank. It may be just the wiring but the sender can fail and require replacement. Remove the fuel tank. While you have it off you may as well replace the sender instead of attempting any repairs to the sender.

JEEP CHEROKEE Fuel Level Sensor

My 1998 xj check engine light came on I hooked up a programmer and got 3 codes. 2 were for an O2 sensor but the other one was P0463 fuel level sensor-Circuit HIgh Imput Once and a while my fuel guage has been off but it has been happening more frequently in the past couple days. Is there a sensor that I can replace or is it the whole sending unit

The fuel level sensor is only replaceable as the entire sender.

JEEP CHEROKEE O2 Sensor & Fuel Level Sending Unit Volts Too High

Hey guys This is what I pulled up on a scan tool. Upstream O2S & fuel level Sending Unit Volts Too High. Im guessing that there is a short between these two so I pulled out the electrical schematic and tried to trace them down. I found that the electrical wires for these components ran independent and do not share the same bundle of wires so there is no way they can be crossed. Im totally clueless.......................Any

Does the scan tool give live data If so what is the voltage reading I would use a multimeter and see if you could get a reading to back up the readings. What year is your XJ

I would test the upstream meter with a meter or better yet a scope and see how it is operating. Not sure exactly how to interpret that code but if you get stuck and youve got a bunch of miles on that oxygen sensor I would consider just replacing it.

Hey did you ever figure out what was wrong with it Im having the same problem with my XJ

JEEP CHEROKEE Check Engine and Fuel Level

Well... I just bought a 96 jeep cherokee Sport with 52k miles. Shortly after getting it back home the check engine light came on...needless to say I was a little disturbed but rechecking everything didnt yield any obvious problems so I reset the light and went on my way. A few days later it came on again and I was again worried...but then i noticed the fuel level seemed the same as before. fueling

obd2 regulated and because of obd2 they will set a code and turn on the MIL when what the PCM sees a descrepency in how much fuel is in the tank vs. how far the vehicle has been driven since the last full signal was produced. also it could be a pressure sensor in the fuel pump Module. Usually the problem is the fuel Pump Module Quote Originally Posted by blackblueman Well... I just bought a 96 jeep

Code 21 is O2 sensor. I have a 96 (yes OBD II) and the key trick does work. Good Luck Peter

dont run out and buy an o2 sensor mine did the same thing when the fuel got below half the check engine light came on. Read the code at autozone it was the o2 sensor replaced it...no change. Still go the light. Put a fuel pressure gage on it below half and when i stepped on it the fuel pressure fell on its face. its going lean cause of no fuel pressure thats why the code shows o2 voltage. So i just use premium fuel and put some tape over the light.

JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE CJ Fuel gauge sensor issue

I would greatly appreciate any help or advice. I have followed test instructions including running a new & separate ground from the neg battery post to both the speedometer housing and fuel level sensor. I temporarily crossed I to S to test fuel gauge and it moved to full so I know the gauge works. I get solid test light at I on fuel gauge but no needle movement on Gauge. I get dimmer flashing on S

JEEP CHEROKEE What is the correct fuel pressure levels in a 1998 XJ

i have a 98XJ 4.0 with about 194k on it. I have had this issue where my XJ will sputter real bad on initial acceleration after i start it. i have a new fuel pump injectors and a bunch of sensors. My Chiltons manual says my fuel pressure at idle should be at 31psi. Mine is reading 50psi. could this be an issue with my return line and where is my fuel pressure regulator thanks for any help. i should

manifold and see how it looks shoot some crc tb cleaner down there and see if that helps.... ...i havent done it myself some things i dont mess with yet i did figure out that my original tank was the reason for three months of aggravation and stallage.....but its easiest to work with if you drop the tank which if you do i would suggest taking a gander inside to make sure there is no erosion jeep

JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE Coolant Level Sensor bad

On a trip to west Pennsyl-tucky this past weekend my 2000 WJ 4.0 recently started chiming randomly. At first i didnt notice any lights or anything on the VIC. After a while I caught a glimpse of the Low Coolant level on the VIC. Now its started happening more frequently. Coolant level is fine in the overflow tank. Could the sensor in the overflow tank be going bad Is that the only sensor there is that would trigger this message Anything else I should checkreplace

Quote Originally Posted by Crewdude007 Okay so I replaced the coolant level sensor with one I got at Pep Boys. It didnt fix the problem. Other ideas that chime is for quite a few different things. are you sure its chiming for low coolant and not say low fuel or low oil pressure

JEEP CHEROKEE fuel level off on xj

been searching.. 1989 xj just installed an airtex fuel pump assembly. the gauge wasnt working with old sender it works now but at almost E I can only pump about 8 gallons into the tank before the gas station pump shuts off. how do I correctly adjust the level sensor on the tank module should I empty the tank or have it full when I do this

JEEP CHEROKEE XJ 97 XJ Fuel Pressure RegulatorSensors

97 XJ Sport I6 auto Problem is long crank times sputtering and occasional loss of power within 5-10 minutes after engine start. Looking to replace the fuel pressure regulator module that comes with the pump filter and strainer already installed. Bosch 67658 Anyone know what part number gasket to use when replacing the entire module Also any particular recommendations for IAC MAP and TPS sensors Im

Got the new fuel pumpregulator assembly yesterday and yes it did come with a new gasket. How can I check for a leaky fuel rail or anything up by throttle body I cleaned out my garage over the weekend and had my XJ parked in the driveway at a downsloap and it wouldnt turn over when I went to pull back in. Had to coast out of the driveway and get level again and it cranked right up. Guess the fuel didnt

JEEP CHEROKEE Anyone added a level sensor to the coolant reservoir

Or exchanged the tank with one that had a level sensor. Just curious. Seems like itd be a prudent thing to do. Wondering if anyone had come across some info. I know its normal maintenance esp. with a 150k mile car and I do check my fluids. Id much rather know right away that Im low on coolant than washer fluid but theres a sensor for that.

I havent seen it done but Im sure you could re-purpose a fuel level sender and gauge.

JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE Coolant Sensor Bad FINALLY FIXED

This is for a 96 Grand - others may be different or not. Ok like others I had the annoying Coolant sensor bad message on the vic most of the time. And the beeping while you drive - you think a door opened up or something. Ive been working on fixing it for what seems like forever. First I didnt know much about the jeep and had no resources. So the coolant level sensor was replaced along with the coolant

JEEP CHEROKEE Fuel Pump Recommendations

Sorry for this but Im stuck at work and Im not supposed to be on the internet. I dont have time to search. I have replaced my fuel pump 3 times already pretty much exactly 12 months apart. The OEM pump went about 9 years and every successive one Ive put in craps out after the 12 month warranty expires. On my way to work this morning the XJ killed while driving. Pulled it over and have little to no

components are the same through EoL....i ordered from autopartswarehouse.....however since this is your 4th id look at what is causing the failure - and from what ive read about others experiences dont use airtex....and ensure your electrical is solid...make sure voltage under load is good....all sensor parameters are based on correct voltage throughout....good luck Parts Ordered 1994-1996 jeep

JEEP CHEROKEE fuel sending unit Ohm ratings

does anyone know that the stock specs are on the ohms from the sending unit with the EFI 4.0L not the MPI 4.0L if there is even a difference in sending units. i have found some threads with cjs using a 0-90 ohm rated sending units and my results are very similar to the results in this thread httpwww.jeepforum.comforumf53g...t-ohms-299830 and as far as i know they have the same engine as my 89 so i

What issues are you having that brings up the questions If your fuel gauge is not reading correctly one might assume that the fuel level sending unit has failed. Consulting your jeep Factory Service Manual will give you the test procedures and the expected test results. For repairs you would need to purchase a fuel level sensor specifically for the XJ cherokee you are working on.

JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE Replaced output speed sensor still check engine light

Help Check engine light due to code for output speed sensor. Ive just replaced the sensor and reset the check engine light and computer stored codes. But as soon as I reach above 15mph the check engine light comes on again. This makes me thinks its truly a new error each time and not something saved in the computer. it shifts and runs fine but here in Oregon the emissions testing to relicense your

tip has a magnet in it it was covered by a bunch of steel powdered sludge that may have been the cause of it not working. I cleaned it up. I thought that it must have a coil of wire wrapped around the magnet and that the two pins on the sensor connect to each end of the wire. An ohmmeter showed the coil to be open. Around the edge of the sensor was its part number which was 4800879. The local jeep

JEEP CHEROKEE 1998 Jeep Cherokee Fuel Guage Reads Empty

I have researched this and found similar problems but I couldnt find anything clear about what causes this and how to fix it. My mom owns a 1998 xj and it came with the idiot lights but the gas guage didnt work so we replaced the dash with a non-idiot version. During this I disconnected the battery and when I turned it on to test it the guage showed I had about a quarter of a tank for 3 seconds then

Theres a lot of belt screeching when it starts upair conditioningrevwhatnot until the car warms up my dad says he knows how to fix that but I want to know for myself. JEEP CHEROKEE 1993 Jeep Cherokee Sport Crankshaft Position Sensor and MAP

My jeep randomly sputters andor stalls out while driving at low speeds and high speeds. Sometimes I am able to hear it sputter and pump the gas several times to keep it going but its becoming less and less effective. So I replaced my plugs wires rotor dist. cap fuel filter and had my fuel injectors cleaned at the Jiffy Lube. Yes I know not the best but hey it was only 30. But the problem still remains.

JEEP CHEROKEE Co sensors upstream downstream..

Quick 101 on the differance between the two.. Cos were high on the emmsions test looking for a pass. I ordered one now find out htere is two. I have the one close to the manifold. The other is near the cat Computer burp out the codes for these

Computer should let you know up or downstream. Hers how they work O2 general The O2 sensor works like a miniature generator and produces its own voltage when it gets hot. Inside the vented cover on the end of the sensor that screws into the exhaust manifold is a zirconium ceramic bulb. The bulb is coated on the outside with a porous layer of platinum. Inside the bulb are two strips of platinum that

JEEP CHEROKEE 00 cherokee 4L map sensor...

2000 cherokee 4L 278 000 kms my truck threw a map sensor code last winter.. ran rough for one morning and went away on its own so i cleared the code.... this winter it came up again.. this time its not going away. i start her up this morning and shes running great with no temperature few minutes later its running rough almost stalling..i heard one missfire. so i just turned it off. so basically as

setting which usually runs well just not perfectly efficient. A default setting will run much much better than a bad o2 sensor. The other likely problem is that your water pump has finally lost its fins and you have uneven cooling. If the cylinders are different temps then the mixture will cause different levels of combustion in each cylinder and possibly pre-ignition in the hottest cylinder. My jeep

JEEP CHEROKEE Throttle Position Sensor

Is this TPS either working or not working Thing is the car (2.5 Petrol) jerks or hesitates every now and again when depressing the throttle. so trying to eliminate potential problems one by one. How would the car behave if the TPS was defective

either work 100% or not at all. (mechanical failure) So you are saying that it somehow can send an intermittent incorrect signal to the ECU. That suggests an electronic related problem Wife is currently out driing in the truck so I cant go have a look... It is quite literally just a variable resistor and since it has moving parts it is an electro-mechanical device. They are quite touchy in the jeeps

JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE High Voltage Supply to Sensors - Exceeds 5V (PCM)

I have been working through the classic stall problem with my 96 jeep ZJ for about a year. At first is started random stalls then melted the insides of a catalytic converter....So far I have installed new Mopar sensors did the screw and zip-tie fix to the PCM. Each repair seemed to get me a little longer time with my jeep the most recent repair got me 2 months without incident. Recently the jeep started

Glad I stumbled on this post I myself am going through some similar problems I have checked k engine light codes for tps high voltage and also a code for high fuel volts. My jeep will run normal when I start it up in the morning to let it warm up after my 15 minute ride to work or anywhere else for that matter when I put it into neutral or park it revs to 1500 rpm and if I blip the throttle slightly

JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE 97 ZJ fuel spews forth while filling up

I have a 97 Grand cherokee Limited with a 4.0l. For a while now at several gas stations fuel has a habit of flowing back out the filler neck while I am pumping gas. The fuel does not trigger the nozzle to turn off like a full tank would though. I have read on here that there may be a sort of check valve at the tank end of the filler and vent lines. Could this check valve have an issue that is causing

JEEP LIBERTY CHEROKEE Fuel Sending problems after car wash

Bottom line up front What does the plug for the fuel sending unit look like Is it 3 or 4 wire Is the assembly on the front of the gas tank the fuel pump and sending unit I want to know these things before I remove the gas tank. Good afternoon Earlier today I took our KJ to a local full service car wash and after recieving it back tank reads empty and fuel light is on despite a full tank. I figured

JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE Fuel pump issues....

I havent been on here in awhile thankfully havent had any major issues for that amount of time. But like all good things that time came to an end. I drive a 93 Grand cherokee 4.0 Straight 6. Woke up the other morning got in my jeep to start the day....and no ignition (was working perfectly fine the day before pulled in driveway turned it off and didnt touch it until the morning). Engine is cranking

Copied and pasted this from another thread I posted to about a year ago. This is from me btw. Check the connector at the pump where it connects to the harness....I went thru a few pumps myself when either the pump or the gauge would work and it ended up being the connector. I found recessed female ends on one side....ended up cutting it off and putting one i found at a jy on. If I have it right there will be no power on the wire until you ground it. The guage just measures the resistance in the sensor to determine fuel level. To test the connector put a jumper wire from the chassis fuel guage wire to the pump guage wire and then one for each side of the ground wire. Might need a helper but see if it works then. If so you have a bad connector. Sometimes you can pull the rubber backing from the backside of the connector take a pair of needle nose and push the female end onto the male end. Careful not to break anything though. Sometimes this works as a permanant fix sometimes not. Depends on how worn the connector is. 1993 Grand cherokee Limited 4.0L AW-4

JEEP CHEROKEE Gas Octane Level

Hey everybody I was just wondering what everyone else puts for fuel in thier XJ. I always put the 89 in because anything lower than that and I get a ping. Im just curious about everybody else... and what you guys use.

and pressures in the cylinder increasing hydrocarbon emissions and decreasing power and fuel economy. Thats why with all things being equal you should run the lowest octane rating you can. The key phrase is all things being equal. I dont know what other additives refineries add to premuim mixtures to help with combustion and to fight carbon buildupemissions. Ill continue to run 87 in my jeep

JEEP CHEROKEE Possible O2 sensor

JEEP CHEROKEE O2 Sensor Replacement

1999 jeep cherokee 4.0 L Auto Transmission with 81000 miles. Gas mileage has been mediocre at best 12-13 mpg (winter time here in Indiana with 10-20 deg during driving). Got under jeep and checked out the pre-cat O2 sensor and it was coated with greaseoil. Photos show an after shot of it being wiped down. There are small holes on the side of the sensor. Do these function to allow air into the sensor

those holes are for it to compare the O2 from the exhaust to the O2 outside the exhaust (thats how it figures O2 levels out.. its a ratio) and they are NOT supposed to be clogged. so its probably reading wrong. although Im not sure how to unclog them.. this is from the 2000 FSM Quote An O2 sensor must have a source of oxygen from outside of the exhaust stream for comparison.
