FORD FOCUS Nightmare inter cooler install

Alright guys I thought this was going to be quick and easy... But WTF I have levels pipes and core The drilling was a nightmare even with brand new titanium bits purchased cobalt and worked much better Be careful the ac condenser is closer then you think The charge pipes the cold pipe required moving the radiator support bracket to get it in Im thinking silicon would have been a nicer option or a two

This may be a stupid question but... Can you use an oxy-fuel torch instead of drilling holes As a farm managermechanic I use oxy-fuel at work on a daily basis it cuts steel like its butter.

FORD FOCUS I Does this fuel gaugemileage look right (I want to flash)

So I just got my accessport in today and want to flash the ecu right now Before I do this though for the past two days the fuel gauge hadnt budged from F in about 60 miles. I just took it and and drove around quite spirited to see if I could get the needle to move at all and did get it to move down a bit but it still seems too high compared to where it normally is at this mileage after a fill-up. i think the quad screen is the first of many upgrades early adopters are going to get hosed on. Wait till they give it more power features and cooler wheel options when the 14 comes out and we will all be thinking about trading ours in. hope these things hold their value.

FORD FOCUS Great... car overheating

Drove from SF to Elko yesterday. After leaving Reno I noticed the oil was hotter than Id ever seen it before (just a touch above mid-way). I watched as it crept up and up until 34 at which point I slowed down to 55 cranked the air and watched it rest again. I accelerated a bit and the oil temps went right back up and the coolant starting going up to about 34 before I stopped entirely. A new car should

FORD FOCUS FSWerks CAI vs COBB CAI is there a difference

Hello I am fairly new to this forum so bare with me if this has been covered. I did do a quick search of both products with no luck. I recently decided to upgrade my intake and I wanted to see what difference they would make. My question is the FSWerks CAI sitting at 209 seems very much the same as the COBB CAI sitting at 299 with that being said does anyone know a difference if any between the two intakes that would justify 100 increase or is that the price of a four letter name brand

The term heat shield is so bogus and only proves how little these aftermarket intake companies understand about intakes. How do you shield from heat when the most significant effect is the heated air residing in the engine bay Theres darn good reason why the OEM funnels ambient air through various snorkels to the outside of the car and keeps the intake sealed in a PLASTIC box. If youve ever datalogged youd know that underhood temps skyrocket when the car is stopped or moving less than about 25mph. It might be 80 out but when you stop at a light underhood temps can go into the 120-145 degree range within 1 minute. At speed near ambient air will circulate through the engine bay. The problem is when youre stopped. When the ECU sees such elevated intake temps it starts to pull timing and adds fuel to reduce detonation potential and cool the combustion chambers. This all kills power. This also ends up killing 1st and some of 2nd gear acceleration because it takes a while for the ECU to adjust and meter the cooler air flowing through the intake. The acceleration might be fine from a roll but from a dead stop youll be slower in ambient temps above 60 degrees. Id strongly recommend NOT exposing any portion of your intake filter and consider opening up or expanding the intake snorkel if you want cooler air and perhaps a little more industion noise. I believe ford Racing has developed a part exactly like this.

temperature is determined by the airfuel mixture ignition timing engine design charge temperature and overall mixture present to combust. Increasing cylinder pressure through adding more air and fuel (increasing boost) or advancing timing will generate more power. It will also generate hotter cylinder temperatures. So the plugs must be changed to match these higher in cylinder temperatures. ford

FORD FOCUS When is it empty

Yeah I know. I know. Its empty when it runs out of gas. What I really want to know is has anyone gotten down to 0 miles until empty When the yellow warning light comes on someone told me you have about 2 gallons left. Any truth to this Im averaging about 26.5 MPG but I dont feel like Im pushing my tank as far as I can because I can only get about maybe 10 gallons in there. I usually fill up when it says 20 miles to empty. Any thoughts

Theres a lot of anecdotal evidence being thrown around here as fact. I cant think that keeping more fuel in the tank would lead to a fuel pump lasting longer. The following comes from Allentown Road Warrior Allentown Road Warrior - Morning Call (An online newspaper) and addresses both concerns water in gas and fuel pump cooling Tom and Ray Magliozzi better known as Click and Clack the Tappet Brothers

FORD FOCUS Active Intercooler Shutter delete

Hello I wanted my intercooler exposed at all time for maximum air flow. I just have the stock intercooler at the moment. Its as simple as that pull the number f35 fuse the fuse should have the number 5 on it do not get it confused with the other fuse above it as it is also numbered as 5. Make sure your shutters are OPEN when you pull the fuse Start car turn AC on wait for shutters to open check with

by RR13ST3 IMHO this is a useless mod. Since you are not putting in more efficient intercooler you are only increasing your drag coefficient ie wasting more fuel making car take longer to warm up etc. Mine takes no longer to warm up. No impact to fuel economy. Why drive around with an already overly warm intercooler. This does not replace a good after market cooler but for someone that cant afford

FORD FOCUS can we run

Can we run e85 in the ST

Im on my second tank of 93E85 blend. I installed Cobbs stage 1 93 tune and I havent noticed any issues. Once this tank is gone I will probably just stick to 93 until my V3 comes in so I can see if I can data log with the blended fuel and check some of the output. Just according to the temp gauge my car seems to be running a bit cooler. Hopefully more info to follow...

E85 has no real bad causes. Its a cooling agent just like nitrous is. Its a more Octane fuel source. It will also act as a cleaner for your motor. If you crack open one motor run on pump and another ran on e85 only youll notice how much cleaner and better looking the e85 motor will look. When you look at high horsepower cars they always have their best numbers on E85 Race Gas etc. E85 will guarantee

FORD FOCUS MOD Math to get the ST as fast as my 300 SRT

Ok stock for stock the ST is slower then my 300 srt8 that im going to trade it for. But the power to weight ratio on my 300 is 0.1 on horsepower design equations calculator. The focus is 0.07875. So to get it as fast 4.5 0-60 and 12.9 to 13.1 in the 14 The ST would need 320 Horsepower to get it the same 0.1 an increase of 68 hp... Or the more realistic and easier 2nd option would be light weight wheels

turbo is already a fire breathing dragon.... LOL... I wouldnt call 20 psi a fire breathing dragon. Now the 48psi of boost on tanner fousts 600 hp 4cyl turbo Fiesta is a fire breathing dragon I think with a REALLY GOOD TUNE better intake good down tube inter cooler Light weight wheels and some other goodies you can get this car close to 300hp especially if the engine is underrated like other ford

FORD FOCUS One of the down-sides to a four-banger

Anyone know what our options are for a high-performance oil cooler This is something I dont have as much of an issue with in my blown V-8......... but then granted there is much more room (air flow) under the hood for cooling. The oil temp was hovering between half-way and 34 way up the gauge. It would be cool if there was a Killer Chiller option for an oil cooler.

Originally Posted by dgc333 The ST already has an oil cooler mounted above the oil filter that uses coolant like the sandwich ones. Actually the water cooled oil cooler is a better type cooler for a road car since the coolant can heat up the oil quicker during cold start to reduce the time required for engine to reach working temperature (less engine wear emission and better fuel economy)

FORD FOCUS Next stage

Hi last week I installed the new mods on my ST it was the DP and catback milltek and DV Forge. Then I upgraded the software to Stage 2 of revotechnik. On dyno I got 305hp and 490Nm (362ftlb). Five months ago I installed the air intake of REVO too. Now I dont know how continue to upgrading the car. Maybe an Intercooler Or I better go for a bigger turbo I hope that someone could give me some ideas. Thanks.

The intercooler will lower your BATs (boosted air temps) and keep them lower. Some intercooler upgrades have shown to have close to 100 cooler BATs. This will also allow you to make more power because cooler air is denser and the more dense the air is the more you can get in the cylinder to make more power. fuel wont be a limitation for you on the stock turbo but to give you an idea we are currently

FORD FOCUS My first tank of 93 God bless Texas.

Its like a different beast. Part of it could be the temp but the butt dyno definately likes the 93 in sport mode. Now Im ruined though and will hate going back to 91 in Arizona.

After driving on 93 for about 4 days including a trip from wetherford to Austin and back Im amazed how much more responsive the car feels. Its been much cooler here as well. cooler than AZ and CA where I have been. Im wondering how much is the fuel and how much is the cooler denser air. Thoughts What has your experience been Is there really that much different between the 91oct I get in AZ and the

FORD FOCUS watermeth kits

due to certain circumstances it is impractical for me to run anything other than 87 and I really want to start tuning this spring looking at going with the FSWERKS option. I cant go with a good tune on low octane for obvious reasons. another member here mentioned a watermeth kit. I have no experience with these whatsoever and I was wondering if anyone here does. what warranty issues could this cause

the WMI is a pretty simple install but not something youd want to to be pulling every time you take it in Benefits include clean valves cooler IATs and obviously the Octane Boost.. For your goals your probably going to want something with a progressive controller so that you get the added octane all the time instead of just at WOT biggest issue would be mounting the tank i Plan to just run like 30%

FORD FOCUS 0 Miles to Empty

I just found out that my focus wasnt lying to me. Oops and less than a mile from home.

FYI running cars that low on gas is really hard on the fuel pump. Two reasons you are more likely to pick up the crap that finds its way into the bottom of the fuel tank and secondly the fuel in the tank helps the pump run cooler extending its life. I know its a small tank but I try to usually fill up my cars around 14 tank. Not that I never let it get lower than that but are you are one of those guys that runs it all the way down all the time it can decrease the life of your pump

FORD FOCUS FMICs Forge or Cobb

Ive read and read and read and I am hoping that someone - perhaps even the manufacturers andor retailers would chime in. I am going to be purchasing one of these kits within the next week but I cand discern which one is the one to get. I really like the way the Forge unit installs using the OEM mounting points but the Cobb core is larger and would APPEAR to afford more headroom in future mods like

Both intercoolers are a great choice I would say. Definitely something you would want to consider doing if youre looking to improve fuel economy and get a much more linear output from your engine. Having cooler incoming air means the air will be more dense which in turn means you can make more power and having more consistent air temps means the engine is capable of holding the power longer without

FORD FOCUS CAI with FMIC

Anyone running just a CAI with an FMIC Thinking of those two mods now and exhaust down the road. Wondering what your thoughts are on just those two mods without a tune at the moment. Thanks

I dont think to many people have gotten that whole setup done yet to see how fuel mileage is but I would guess it would stay near similar to before the mods since you are making it easier for the engine to run cooler and breath better except for when you get in to it youll notice a bigger drop from the extra power.

The shutters do improve cooling. They do it by opening to let airflow get to the intercooler and radiator... Anyone pull the active grill shutter fuseWould it trigger a check engine light code of any kindThinking of this too help cool engine since i believe ags is for helping warm engine and aero help..

Pulled AGS system fuse today definetly noticed a difference in consistency of power to it just makes sense because cooler air makes more power which would make the car more fuel efficienct than a tiny bit more aerodynamic warm up time was just as fast as normal. But instead of battery light like most are saying here just the info light is on and car says headlamp fault service soon. But headlights are still working fine kinda confusing lol

First and most importantly. Please do not try to answer this question if you have no idea what you are talking about. They will squeeze as much money out of you as possible hence why they are successful. They

tunes are exactly that. they are a modification of how your engine makes use of what is going into it. Tunes can help or hurt your performance based on what it is set up to do and the airfuel going into it and the exhaust coming out of it. An upgraded intercooler will provide a cooler more condensed charge of air which with a more aggressive tune will equate to a gain in performance. Running a more
