FIAT MULTIPLA Fiat Multipla 1.6 Petrol Sparks and Turns Over but will not start

Hi Im new here just found this site through google as Im having trouble getting my mums multipla to start. It failed to start the other day and was jump started by the recovery man. It failed to start again today so I tested the battery output under load and it is down to under 10 volts. So new battery I thought. Bought one put it in. Car will still not start. Anyway I looked up how to test the resistance

OK doesnt sound like an immobiliser issue as youve got sparks. When you changed the plugs the old ones should have been wet and smelt of petrol Ive got the diesel so my knowledge of petrol versions isnt great but if the pump was faulty I would have expected an error assuming the ECU would have a low fuel pressure sensor. You could always undo a fuel pipe and redirect into an empty bottle to check the

FIAT MULTIPLA Glow plug warning light

I get a control fault if we rush the startup if you click the key till the dash lights come on wait for the glow-plug light to go out and wait for the OK light to be displayed before starting the engine and moving all seems ok. Hi. The above is a quote from a post from PJM on a different thread but it highlights something thats puzzled me with my multipla since I bought it last week. When the ignition

Ive just replaced 2 on mine as both were dead giving the flashing sighn on the dash. They are a right pain to get at and it looks like mine had never been done before as they are not a service item like a spark plug on a petrol car. You can use a meter on loop setting to see which ones are dead while they are in the car you need to put one wire to the engine and one to the tip of the plug.

FIAT MULTIPLA 105 JTD Glow Plug lamp

The glow plug light flashes occasionally after start up for serveral seconds. Sometimes it does sometimes not Any ideas

to check your glow plugs remove the linking cablebar and use a stout bit of cable from the battery ve and touch the end if you get a healthy spark its ok if not its a dud worked on my astra deisel

FIAT PUNTO Spark Plugs and their effects on your car.

I dont know if this has been mentioned before but as most of you seem to do your own work on your cars this might be helpful. The number of cars we are starting to see with intermittent faults occurring such as stalling or cutting out and not restarting is increasing. The most common cause is the incorrect plugs are fitted. The type of spark plugs fitted as standard are resistor type they have a R

FIAT MULTIPLA I 186 00 petrol Multipla running on 3 cyl

Hi All My 2000 petrol multipla is only running on cylinders 1-3. It was working fine (as fine as 205000 km should be...) and I stopped at the shops and started it up again drove 20m and the 4 cyl cut out. I tried revving it a bit but no help. I limped home and checked to confirm that there is spark. Pulled the plug and started it up and I could see spark when holding the plug against ground. I tried

Swap the spark plug with another working one and see if the fault moves (Hoping its a spark plug issue). If the fault stays with the cylinder and theres definitely a spark and no petrol on the spark plug then check the wiring to the injector. If still no luck then youll then need to swap the injector to check whether its the injector gone faulty or the wiringECU.

FIAT MULTIPLA multipla turns over but wont fire.

Hey all We really need some help with our multipla elx 1.6. w reg (2000) Hubby drove it a short distance in the morning when he tried to start it a couple of hours later it wouldnt start. FIAT MULTIPLA 1.6 Multipla lacking power & Engine Mngmt Fault

I have just had my 1.6 multipla 2001 in the garage to get the timing belt done had no history when I bought it and had done 77k so it seemed prudent. However I am now getting an intermittent fault that says there is an engine management fault and the revs seem to flatline when pushed lacks power basically. However out of gear the revs will go as high as I push it. Anyone got any ideas of easy checks

I would get the engine code from a fiat garage or any that can read the engine code. It can be a numerous things. Sensors injectors etc. Easy thing to do is to check the spark plugs. httpwww.aa1car.comlibraryreading_spark_plugs.jpg hazyman thanked for this post

Thanks guys appreciated my plan is to check (thanks for the link joipalli) then change the spark plugs and then if it persists (which it will -)) I will take it down to fiat s super computer to get plugged in. Just scared at what they might find doesnt owe me much but I am quite attached now.

FIAT MULTIPLA intermittent fault - please help

Hi All I am hoping that someone will be able to help with an intermittent fault I have on our W reg multipla. Two years ago on a journey to Oxford from Cornwall the red injector light came on on the dash. The car lost its revs and the performance was terrible - not good on the M5. We took it to the nearest fiat garage who diagnosed a fault with the throttle switch. They kindly sorted this and we had

FIAT MULTIPLA Newbie with accelerator judderstutter

Hi I am new here and the proud owner of 2 multiplas (1 is the wifes) and a 110 Land Rover. They are both Petrol 100SXs and think both year 2000 ish. We love them - funnily enough. I have an issue on one where when hovering on the accelerator at around 40 or under loaded acceleration (i.e. in too high a gear) at around the same speed the engine stutters quite dramatically. Seems like it is missing but

I dont know how specific this would be to multiplas but in general mis-firing when a petrol engine is labouring is caused by a weak spark the high pressure vapour in the cylinder has too high an electrical resistance for the spark to jump the spark gap. Is this likely Have you checked the plugs If the plugs are ok it might be worth having the HT system checked this kind of problem was common enough

FIAT MULTIPLA poor cold start diesel multipla

Hi to all I am a newbieWe had a 1.6 elx for 12years until it finally died when the cam belt snapped. We liked it so much because it ticked all the boxes we bought a 1.9 multijet on a 57 plate which runs well dosnt burn oil 55000 miles on clockbut is very reluctant to start on cold morningsglow plug light flashing.Today I set out to change the glow plugs and decided to change the faulty plugs first in

Hi mate Whilst it was true of the older JTD s etc that didnt really require the glow plugs in the uk climate the multijets seem to rely on them more. The test that you have described is a very basic one and does not test the glow plugs fully. It will reveal if they are drawing current (ie will spark) so would identify a totally dead glow plug but will not identify one that is tired and not getting

FIAT MULTIPLA Multipla Driveshafts

Okay Im new here so if this has been covered before I apologise. I have a 1.6 multipla with crunchy CV joints so Ive bought 2 used driveshafts and plan to fit them myself (rather ambitious for someone who has never even changed a spark plug). Anyway despite there being no Haynes manual for this car I think Ive amassed sufficient info (and tools) to attempt the job. I have just one query though. The

FIAT MULTIPLA Multipla starting problem.

Bit of a problem starting a W reg 2000 1.6 petrol multipla. Up until a few weeks ago it would start first time since then I have had trouble starting. It seems to be more of a problem after short trips which made me think that it may be a battery problem. The engine turns over but will not fire up may start the second third or fourth time. Last night my wife couldnt get it started (after about a dozen

FIAT MULTIPLA I 186 Misfiring and rough idle on Multipla petrol 16v 00

For the last couple of weeks my Myltipla petrol 00 has been misfiring. Generaly this has occurred when under load eg high gear and heavy throttle. The issues have occurred more frequently over time and now the idle is also very rough raising

FIAT MULTIPLA Multipla 1.6v petrol not starting

Hello everyone. I have just joined the forum so please bear with me. I have a Y reg 1.6v multipla that until Saturday morning was running fine (for its age). For some reason I decided to rev the engine in an attempt to get the car warmed up for the kids. This resulted in a cough and a sputter and then the engine died. After several failed attempts to restart I got an EBD fault. Having checked the forum

FIAT MULTIPLA Heater Fan Intermitant Fault

Hi all. I have a 2000 JTD with a rather annoying heater fan problem. It started playing up last Winter. The fan would be working fine warming the car up nicely in the cold weather when suddenly it would start pulsing. It would go off for a second or so then come back on for a second off on off on. If I left it like that then it would stop altogether in a few seconds but if I turned it down a couple

starts running even if your car keys are in the house so its prime fuse popping time ) The last photo is just the removed unit from the bottom. So there you have it Im toasty warm again now lol. I hope this helps a few people out as it seems to happen often if these forums are anything to go by. Thanks to all who helped too. Attached Thumbnails           __________________ fiat

which was fiddly but very straight forward but it appears my rear right cable is naffed so going to order a set of rear cables and do both have now changed the air filter and spark plugs and then it started lashing it down so oil will have to wait and thanks for the tip Marty i didnt even think about that so will be adding some flush to my latest eurocarparts order quick pic __________________ fiat

FIAT MULTIPLA Is this a duff

I bought my multipla about 6 weeks ago and seem to be having no end of problems with it. The brakes screech like mad but the garage has checked them and they have plenty of meat left on them. The screen washers dont work. The oil light flashes constantly. Had the oil changed but its still doing this. The worst problem Im having with it though is that it is constantly cutting out. I can see no pattern

FIAT MULTIPLA 16V Misfire Cutting Out.

Just before Christmas my wifes 2000W 1.6 developed a misfire accompanied by the appearance of the EMS warning light. This was during a short trip after it hadnt been driven for a few days and it only just started on the battery. When I checked by pulling the plug leads from the coil cylinder 4 didnt seem to be firing. Having checked the lead and plug (which I replaced) I decided to try replacing the

If you suspect the problem is related to the fuel being allowed to run low (sometimes gunk in the fuel tank can get sucked up) it may have blocked an injector or a feed point in the fuel system. There is a fuel filter which should stop it but Ive had problems with Cinqs where tank rust has passed the filter and caused problems. FIAT MULTIPLA very smokey jtd helppp

hi all i have recently bought a jtd multipla in addition to my current 1.6. The car came from an insurance salvage auction although Im not sure what the damage was. Class D. I susspected it may have been in a flood as there is no other damage but not sure now. It starts and ticks over fine but after about 5 mins it starts to misfire and if i rev it it bellows grear clouds of smoke out of the exhaust.

from another site White smoke White smoke is caused by water and or antifreeze entering the cylinder and the engine trying to burn it with the fuel. The white smoke is steam. There are special gaskets (head gaskets are the primary gaskets) that keep the antifreeze from entering the cylinder area. The cylinder is where the fuel and air mixture are being compressed and burned. Any amount of antifreeze
