FIAT MAREA 185 oil leaking from filter

Hi again everyone i have noticed a worrying amount of oil leaking from the oil filter on my marea 1.9td each time i park the car there is a spot about 3 in diameter however when i check the dipstick the oil is about 3 above maximum fill level why might this be Could it be that just a simple overfill of oil would cause the leak or is there something more serious going on

Hi If your oil is 3 above max on the dipstick then you need to drain some out as quickly as possible. The pressure caused by that much oil can split your sump and oil seals. It is likely that you are just losing oil due to overpressure check it again once it has been drained.

FIAT MAREA 185 20v manual and oil filter access

Hi on other pages it says the manual is available on this site for the 20v marea weekend but as a newbie I cannot find it. also how do I get to the oil filter is it the small hatch on the undertray. I assume it is the oil filter I can see front left of engine. Thanks Tony

right there is no manual for the 20v undortuantly as for the oil filter yes its an ass to get off everything is on the 20v probably easist to stab it with a screwdriver....

I find that the inspection panel is about as useful as a chocolate fireguard... If you do have one without the seized bolts and you can get the filter out you will be treated to oil all over the undertray which will find its way onto your drive. It is better to remove the undertray. I use a 3 prog oil filter wrench to get the filter out and it needs a wiggle but does not normally cause problems...

The oil filter is almost completely hidden in a recess on the front left of the block. There is a longer alternative available dont remember the number but a search for marea oil filter might find it.

You need very bendy arms to get the oil filter off through the removable flap. It can be done though. One probem is that when you remove your filter and pull your arm away to avoid it getting covered in oil its even harder if you go in through the flap so have an old rag handy to wipe the oil off (Assuming its the same as the Coupe) H

FIAT MAREA 185 Oil Filters for 1.9JTD

hi guys i am getting a bit confuse on these 1.9JTD105 oil filter. seems like there are many version than can be used but my question is why there are many version as far as i know prior 2001 1.9JTD105 should use the filter with 90mm height. but most of the shops only either selling with either 100mm or 70mm height. what i can see is if the oil filter is too long like 100mm it is very close to the exhaust

Do you have a dealer nearby Ask them.

its ok to use a smaller filter (or a larger one if you have the space) the only difference is how much crap they can hold. obviously a smaller filter will need changing sooner because it will get full or crap sooner.

hi guys i found the tecnocar R126 filters. it is 90mm in height and it is the correct size recommended for 1.9 JTD105. when i look a the filter location using 100mm filter might have a potential of cooking engine oil bcos it is too close with the exhaust pipe. by having additional 10mm gap i think the oil temperature inside the filter will be cooler. that is the only rational i can think of.

FIAT MAREA 185 Marea Oil In Air Filter Compartment

can any one help me resolve problem i noticed some white smoke occasionaly come out of exaust then discovered a drop in oil level and whilst going through the diagnostic routine to resolve this issue i discovered oil in air filter compartment and not just a little but a lot and in turn this is occasionally going into carburators (efi) and burning off thus produceing white smoke what is causing oil travel to air filter and how do i resolve it

car been upside down recently i got oil going in my intake manifold etc when the head was upside down lol

Hi and welcome to our forum What model car do you have There may be a T breather tube from the head inlet pipe and throttle body. This has a one way valve on the head end. It may also be a head gasket if you are getting white smoke. Check your water for oil mayo type sludge or a bad egg smell.

Ok not sure what the layout of yours is but I think the idea on mine is to recycle head gases under throttle but stop them escaping during no vacuum. May be something similar on yours but letting oil out all the time.

FIAT MAREA 185 Marea and Rapeseed oil

Hello I have a fiat marea TD100 (1998). I would like to know if I can use Rapeseed oil or BioDiesel. Anyone of you have tested these fuels Thanks in advance.

contamination. 4. Yep. Change fuel filter regularly too. 5. The Cit guys seem to prefer Rapeseed oil as it is thinner than corn & others. 6. Lidl currently cheapest for rapeseed oil 56ppl but sold in crappy 1 lit bottles. 7. Little support for heating the oil even in winter as once the engine is up to 60deg the fuel leaving the pump is hot enough. If your car is worth a bit (but youre driving a fiat

You can take a feed from the cooling system run it through a water jacket and feed the oilthrough it pre-filter. Just helps warm the oil a little before filtration. Remember there is a fuel heater built into the fuel filter housing. Aditional heating can be achieved using something called the Rapetherm4 Basically 4 glow plugs in a cylinder with a thermostat to stop them getting too hot.

FIAT MAREA 185 Marea 1.9TD100 Oil Leak

Hi All I have a 1998 marea TD100 which has sprung an oil leak. I have checked into this further to find there are two pipes going from the oil filter housing to a unit in the drivers wheel arch area. Is this an oil cooler The leak appears to be coming from the pipe unions which both look in pretty poor condition. Are they quite easy to change is it just a straight replacement job Finally anybody know

FIAT MAREA 185 High Automatic Gearbox Oil Temperature Warning

Hi Has anyone had any experience of the above I posted last week about the marea that I had just bought needing a service. Have not got around to arranging service as yet but at the weekend I noticed a very slight oil leak. Not sure exactly where it is coming from although there seemed to be a bit around the oil filter. Have been keeping a regular check on oil levels both engine and gearbox (at least

FIAT MAREA 185 Changing oil auto gear box.

Hi guys i have a fiat marea 1.6 R.reg auto i want to change the gear box oil and filter but cant find anywhere on here that tells you how much oil which oil to use or a guide.I didnt get a manual with the car so if anyone could help me out i would really appreciate it. Cheers sean

There is no automatic gearbox oil filter so nothing to change there. That is why you must ensure that no dirt or muck goes down the dipstick hole by cleaning around it before removing the dipstick and making sure you use a clean funnel or spout if you have to top it up. There is no requirement in fiat s service schedules to replace the oil either. Why do you want to change it What mileage has the car done

FIAT MAREA 185 Marea Oil Leak

Hi I hope someone can help. My marea has an oil leak from around the oil filter has the marea got an o ring by the filter if it has could it need replaceing if not any ideas what it needs to stop it. Thanks Carl

Try tightening up the oil filter.

FIAT MAREA 185 Vegetable oil fuelled JTD

Hi all. Been using 90%veg oil with 5% diesel and 5% unleaded for 2000 miles now in my marea Weekend JTD 105. It runs absolutely perfectly seemingly a little quicker and quieter. I even like the smell more than diesel. But then who likes the smell of diesel A lot of negative propaganda is being banded around by oil industry rumourmongers about engine damage from biodiesel and SVO (straight veg oil).

Fantastic message - could you let me know what kind of filter you use to filter the chippy oil Many thanks Marc

FIAT MAREA 185 Oil Change.....help

Decided to do an oil change at the weekend on my 2.0 marea - all was going swimmingly (including getting the sump plug off which some monkey had wrecked - guess previous service people didnt have a torx set) until it came to finding the oil filter. Not a hope - not even the workshop cd was much help. So basically I put the fresh oil in before I thought I had spotted it up near the heatshield on the

You are supposed to be able to access the filter through a small flap in the undertray but like most things the bolt are probably rusted in place and it is too small anyhow. You need to take the undertray off and get a 3 pronged oil filter wrench (the kind that the prongs tighten as you turn it). You will see the filter between the exhaust downpipe and the engine on the drivers side. It is a bit of

FIAT MAREA 185 Marea 2.4jtd 130 Weekend Oil and tyres

Im in the process of recommissioning my marea. I havent used it for 6 years other than occasionally moving it up and down the drive. Im replacing all service parts (filters brake discs and pads oil tyres etc). The tyres currently on it are 19560 which Im sure were the correct ones when I bought them however if I put the reg number into a search on Kwikfit and National it comes up as 19055. Does anyone

FIAT MAREA 185 Engine oil overfill

Hi to all I had a regular oilfilter change (at service) about 2 weeks ago. During a first 3-5 days I could notice oil smell from the ventilation (not burning oil just plain oil smell as you could smell it from the oil can). And then it stopped (or I just got used to it). Did not pay much attention to it as I tought someone spilled some oil outside of the cap during oil change. But when I checked the

FIAT MAREA 185 Gearbox Oil Change Questions

I have a marea 1.6 1998 with 190K KM on the clock and the gearbox indicator has started flashing a few times. I consider changing the gear oil (it was done two years and about 70K KM ago) and have some questions 1. Does it make sense replacing the oil or is it a complete waste of time and money and Ill have to refurb the gear anyway 2. Is it possible to replace the gearbox oil filter when draining the oil if so how Thanks Amit

FIAT MAREA 185 Td 100 Oil Thing

HOW DO I CHANGE THE GASKET INBETWEEN A M8 TOLD ME I HAVE TO TAKE THE TB OFF AND ALOT OF THAT SIDE OF THE ENGINE TO GET TO IT BUT I DONT HAVE ANY MANUALS CDS ECT .. PLEASE HELP SHES NAGGING NOW

Now having looked at mine further. I can see that the oil is definately coming from the bit the oil filter is screwed onto. See if yours is the same shine a torch to see if the oil is coming from underneath the timing belt rear cover i.e. is it coming from the main engine part or if it is clean there the oil is coming from the cylinder bit with the two pipes that the oil filter is screwed into. Once

THANKS GUYS AFTER CLOSE INSPECTION THE oil IS COMING QUITE QUICKLY FROM WHAT I CAN ONLY DISCRIBR AS ... LIKE A GASKET THAT JOINS THE MAIN OP TO WHERE THE oil filter ATTACHES TO I HAVE REPLACED THE SEALS FOR THE 2 oil PIPES AND CHANGED THE oil filter DONE VERY TIGHT BUT STILL COMES OUT ONLY WHEN ENGINE IS RUNNING . FIAT MAREA 185 JTD oil switch location

hello all anyone know where the oil light pressure switch is located on the JTD engines . It must be right behind the starter or something because I cant see it from underneath.. Owen.

What model marea is it 1.9JTD 105 Eper suggests the switch (or a switch) is fitted to the alloy casting that the oil filter screws onto. It doesnt show exactly where it fits though.

FIAT MAREA 185 Oil warning Light

Hello all hope you can help. I got a 1.6 ELX marea and since yesterday the oil warning light comes on at times. I checked the oil level and it was at min. I filled it up and the warning light is still on and off. A bit of test drives and I figured out the light comes on when the clutch is disengaged (pedal pressed or gear in neutral) and the engine speedis below 1000rpm. That is it is on with engine

This could be worn mainbig end bearings in the worst case and a long high speed trip is not a good idea if that is the problem. The output from the oil pump is less at lower rpm then engine speed tends to dip a little bit when the clutch is out less flywheel mass. What RPM are you seeing Just running at the min level should not do any harm how many miles has the car run A change of oil and oil filter may fix it what oil is in the car how long since you changed them

Thanks Renegade The car is a 2000 MY and it has done 105000 KM. The oil and filter were changed by a fiat dealer 15000 KM ago. The oil is Selenia 20K. I see the warning light come on as the engine speed goes below 1000rpm. Cheers

The 1.6 is reckoned to be good for about 120K miles and you are inside service interval with the correct oil. I think if it was my car I would change the oil and filter myself and see if that cured the problem if it doesnt then the engine will need attention it may be bearings however it could be blocked oilways (flushing oil may work here) or a failing oil pump. Its also possible that the pressure switch has failed and it may be worth getting it tested.

FIAT MAREA 185 What oil to use 2.4jtd

Hey chaps Just a quick question abotu 2 cars Changing oil in my 2.4jtd and my girlfriends 1.2 16v corsa (v reg) Im not exactly wealthy at the moment so I was wondering what oil is reccomended for these engines at a reasonable price Also how much oil do I need I will be empting and flushing the engines. thanks for any replies Darren

any good quality brand semi or fully synthetic 10W40 oil for turbo diesels (it should mention suitability for turbo s) should do fine for the JTD .. the oil quantity should be listed in the owners manual handbook but assume 5 liters anyway. make sure to pre oil and fill the new filter before starting. as for the corsa just park it on the edge of a cliff and let gravity do the rest (joking of course ) 5W30 i would imagine 3.5 litres but do check the manual or other online guide.

the sump plug takes a fiat alfa star key not an Allen key but it still tends to round off I use a footprint wrench similar to but better than a mole grip to undo it always use a good quality fully synthetic oil to prolong the life of the turbo (morrisons are currently selling havoline for 16.99 for 5l) the corsa has the same engine as my wifes 2000W 1.6 tigra and I have always used 10-40W semi-synthetic

FIAT MAREA 185 Which oil should i use pls

Hello ff its time to change the oil on my marea 2.0 20v r reg weekend with 107 on the clock can anyone tell me the best oil to use please im a great lover of Mobil 1 but iv been told its not good enough for the engine -any advice would be very welcome thanks Joker

Strange how my 2000 1.8 weekend never ceases to amaze me at how many things can go wrong and usually do on a frequent basis. I had started to check the oil level more often than usual and usually found the dipstick completely devoid of oil so topped up with any 1540 oil I had spare. I should point out I do 8000 mile oil and filter changes and so deem any reasonable oil suitable. Imagine my surprise

FIAT MAREA 185 Hot Oil

Took my car for a run out to warm up today to change the oil. I loosened the filter with the filter loosener gagdet but when I got hold of the filter to loosen it off the rest of the way I cant ever remember the filter being too hot to hold with a piece of wrag. Its only 6000ml since it was changed got me baffled dont know if its normal or not.

FIAT MAREA 185 Marea 2.0 20v burning oil

Hi im probably being dense (im an auto electrician not a mechanic lol) but I knew my marea 20v was burning a little oil but I put a stainless exhaust system on the car from the cat back and when I boot it you can really see the smoke bellowing from the back now (the original exhaust pointed to the ground so the fumes were not visible in the car). Its a 1998 marea 2.0 20v not sure if its a 147 or a 155 yet to find that out. Any pointers on how to find that out too

I was changing the air filter the other day and in it there was a puddle of oil in the airbox. I was wondering if its just a clogged breather pipe or something If it is where abouts are they on my engine so I can take them off and inspect

FIAT MAREA 185 Marea 1.8 16v - Oil leaking at exhaust manifold

I have recently discovered an external oil leak on my marea 1.8 16v. It appears that oil is leaking at the outer studs of the exhaust manifold . I initially suspected the cylinder head gasket but I have ruled this out as the gasket is located lower than the manifold it is dry and there can be now way the oil can find its way from it into the studs. Any idea what can be the cause Do the studs penetrate

You can see the return feed into the inlet piping before the inlet manifold you can also see that pressure is relieved off through the oil feed o.O And yes i think it is contributing to problems i have an issue where i have to clean my sensors weekly because they keep getting wet with something (Petrolly smelling Imo) Maybe your 1.8 is similar I need to get a filter for the pcv piping really i have one but it has a split end Shouldnt be too much though.

Finally someone has the guts to try SVO or is it filtered WVO in a JTD Only trouble is the hastle of registering as a producer of auto fuels with httpwww.hmrc.gov.uk and declaring your usage. Did some testing in a Tipo TD with SVO using a tap off from the cars coolant circuit to heat the oil. Diagram attached. Fuel feed through centre hot coolant runs through jacket.
