FIAT MAREA 185 Marea ABS problem

Hi all have read some threads on the topic but none that could help me so I post here in hope that someone might have a clue I have a fiat marea Weekend 1.8 ELX 1998 model - and the ABS light is constantly on and nor does the ABS system function. The light is on from the very moment I turn the key and never goes off. It first started after having changed both front brake pads and the left front wheel

FIAT MAREA 185 Spare wheel will it fit an Abarth

Hi All. First thread. Unusual request. I was wondering if any of you out there has tried fitting the spare wheel off the marea onto an Abarth 500 - you might have a mate who has one (ok - its a long shot). Bit of a hairy discussion on the fiat Abarth 500 forum about A spare wheel or not . At some point my faithful marea will meet its maker and since I plan to get an Abarth (it has no spare wheel )

FIAT MAREA 185 Marea 130 JTD Glow Plugs

marea just churning over this morning but wont start. Checked for fuel flow etc all OK. Alarm is disconnected because it and the central locking had stopped responding to key fob so reconnected it. Still nothing. Remembering that the yellow filament indicator had been showing after start up decided to replace glow plugs. Got to the last one and the tip has snapped off and stayed in the head. Any ideas

your input. For illustration I have attached a pic of the broken plug and a normal one so you can see what is left in the head. Im guessing that the broken one was causing the lamp to stay on and if that is the case it has been there for about two years without moving so I assume Im safe to leave it there. Are the two relays the ones in the glove box Attached Thumbnails   __________________ fiat

FIAT MAREA 185 marea steering audio controls pls advice

the buttons on the steering wheels are not working any ideas also if I were to fit a facia plate and a standard size cd player is there any way I can use these controls not that the little buggers work now anyway. cheers john

Steering wheel buttons are conected via spiral cable (two wires) to fiat car stereo. You should check wiring and conection but be careful if you intend to remove steering wheel with AirBag mounted There is exact procedure (step-by-step) about disassemblyassembly steering wheel If you replace it with standard CD player there is several adapters for models which have joystick input at rear side ....

FIAT MAREA 185 Marea JTD 130

I have opportunity to possibly buy a 2000 marea 2.4JTD 130 with 86k miles with a bottom end engine knock. Can buy car for just over scrap value. The car is otherwise mint with full fiat service history. Are these engines components like rocking horse poo Are the Alfa engines identical internally etc Thanks for any input.

FIAT MAREA 185 NCT test and now an airbag problem

I put the trusty workhorse marea Weekender through the NCT on the 11th of March and it failed on a number of things. Bump stops Corrosion on brake lines Body damage on the rear on the side (not the drop down bumper) Loose battery connection. The first 2 are now common enough here and theres a view that its a way for the goverment to generate business for gargages. This along with crushed sills which

they would have a very good reputation - are vat registered and give computer generated receipts. First time to use them. A family member managed to negotiate a gearbox re-build - went in for a flywheel (dualmass) problem by getting the VAT sliced and diced. I normally use another guy but its cash and not much of a receipt but generally he gets the job done and did go to a contact that he had in fiat

FIAT MAREA 185 Marea steering and suspension

Hi Another couple of questions about my new marea weekend 105 JTD . There is a slight knock when accelerating hardor dabbing the throttle. It is definately front suspension arealh side. Before I get under it and start my own searchis there a common problem that this sounds likeThe car has only done genuine 61K.Secondlythe steering is very lightand very precisemaking straight line steering a bit of a

is the front anti roll bar bushes and drop links. However this is heard as a knock when you go over a bump and seems to come from the back. I did change the lower wishbones on my car at about that mileage. The effect when they are worn is that the car seems to torque steer a lot at very moderate throttle inputs I did not get any clunkings. As to having to put a lot of input into steering the marea

FIAT MAREA 185 Reving Engine

I drive a 1997 marea HLX 1.8 and even when the car is idle at traffic lights for example the engine can rev to over 1500. Even while driving the revs are too high for the speed and gear. It doesnt happen all the time. I posted this problem to another site and apparently this is a common enough problem and fiat dismiss it as an actual problem. For one Id imagine it doesnt do any goo for fuel consumption

FIAT MAREA 185 DASH REMOVAL TRAUMA

HI FOLKS I HAVE A marea 100TD ELX THE MILEAGE READOUT LIGHT HAS DECIDED TO EXPIRE I SPOKE TO fiat AND WAS TOLD IT IS A REPLACABLE BULB BUT YOU NEED TO REMOVE THE DASH UNIT HAS ANYONE DONE THIS HOW IS BEST WAY TO ATTACK IT ANY input GREATLY RECEIVED.

FIAT MAREA 185 Steering Wheel remote control to Sony HU

I did a search but couldnt find anything specific. I plan to refit my Sony CDX-CA650 HU to my marea Weekend and I understand that I could possibly get an adapter that allows me to use the steering wheel mounted audio controls on the Sony HU. I tried looking on the Autoleads website but it is pretty vague and doesnt seem to quote specific parts or prices. Has anyone done this and if so did it work and

with 3 ISO inputs and 2 ISO outputs and the Sony 3.5mm jack remote connector. There is a small black box in the loom that I assume does the jiggery pokery communication thing between controls and HU. The only drawback is that this extra bunch of cables takes up more of the precious room behind the HU and took some wiggling to get to fit properly albeit a bit tight. Anyway for anyone owning a marea

FIAT MAREA 185 Something inside has died and I just cant drive

Apologies for the bad pun on a great song. Clutch has given in. Driving along no worries. Went from 4th to 5th no problem. 5 miles later tried to go back to 4th3rd while slowing for a roundabout on a slip road. Clutch pedal moves and springs back up but its just not disengaging the clutch. Had to drive the remaining 5 miles to work through a town with no working clutch stop to drop off the bairn restart

Be interested to hear what it was - Had a sudden clutch failure on my wifes marea Weekend 2.0 a few months ago - turned out that driven plate spring had broken was fouling up the pressure plate would only parly disengage occasionally fully. Odd thing is that car had only done 80000 km apparently at 40000km had done the same thing to the previous owner... always had excessive gearbox noise found out

FIAT MAREA 185 clutch problem reverse gear pls help

HI having problems with reverse in marea weekend ...when I drive along .stop .then reverse everything is fine however if I just jump into car and try to select reverse it grinds could this be clutch adjustment or something more sinister

Is the grinding when the clutch pedal is still depressed This would suggest a clutch problem as your input shaft must be rotating. If its when you release the pedal then its the normal fiat gearbox as described above. Ive experienced this on 127s Unos Pandas and the X19. You start to get used to selecting a forward gear first then sliding it back to reverse. This issue however has nothing to do with

FIAT MAREA 185 ecu reader

Has anybody any trick how can i read me ECU TD100. Which is program good for my car and has anybody a cable data Thx

think i may have found something for you when using a max232 IC for your rs232 interface the Rx inputs on the ELM IC are all inverted. sort it by placing another inverter in series with the Rx input Heres how you can connect a MAX232 to provide both the RS232 interface and the inversion on the Rx input.

commands for you. uniscan is just a pretty translator to help you talk to the modem and understand what it says but you dont have to use any program. one of the main weakneses of programs like unisys is they fairly often dont actually give you a good description of the error for en ecu fault code. you may get a response like error code 23. thats means bot all if you dont have a table with the fiat

FIAT MAREA 185 LPG Conversion 97 Marea Weekend

Hello does anyone know if the engines on the 97 series mareas are suitable for conversion to LPG Or has anyone already done this I believe that as of 99 most of the marea Brava motors can be converted but I dont know about the earlier ones. Thanks in advance.

with no real major problems. I considered a Diesel the problem is that I live in Germany and the Guv. has introduced environmental zones that most diesels are banned from unless the car was bought yesterday and of course I work in one of those zones. Unfortunately most of my driving is cross country not autobahn that would mean an extra 40K a day. I am looking into getting a later model fiat

FIAT MAREA 185 Marea Weekend TD100 tracking problems

Merry Christmas guys. Posted a thread a few months ago and was grateful for the response. I curbed my 1996 TD100 marea Weekend a few weeks ago while skidding on the ice. Although going slow the force was enough to buckle the ns front wheel which I changed from another marea model at the local breakers and had a new os tyre to match the new one fitted and tracking adjusted. However the car still pulled

have now looked and neither could find the problem. I guess I will try to replace the rear hub mountings or stub axle as obviously the wheel has been hit in the past. I asked the mechanic to rotate the wheel 180 degrees and then take another reading in the hope that it was just a wheel bearing but it was still out by the same degree. Anyone have any tips on trying to correct the camber on their mareas

FIAT MAREA 185 Marea Cambelt nightmare

My birds giving me hell. We were travelling back from Liverpool airport last night when the Cambelt snapped on her 1997R 1581cc Auto ELX marea. The cars done 51000 miles and only had a service 2 weeks ago. We had it dropped at the garage where the work was done (it had a previous service there also). She was told today that the garage would not be responsible for the work as it could break at any time

FIAT MAREA 185 please can someone help my dads marea

hi all im new here to post on behalf of my 65 yr old father who is having a rather horrible but potentially dangerous issue with his marea. i am sincerely hoping that someone out there can shed some light on it ill give you the background and appologise in advance for a lengthy first post... the car is a 52 plate marea elx auto and my dad travels 100 miles a day round trip to work along some very nastyfast

thankyou so much you are a gem fingers crossed we get some input eh

hi adrian yes its a 1.6 as above poster says. thanks for your input can i now ask is the crank sensor easy to get to and change by a local garage or is a fiat only jobby like the cam sensor would be thanks again guys

FIAT MAREA 185 The Marea that wont go.....

Ive just purchased a marea 100sx it has 52000 on the clock and looks in great condition. However it has just started giving me a sever headache as it just wont start up The started motor kicks in and spins away but the engine wont catch. I call out a local breakdown recovery company and on looking at the engine they advised that there was no spark at the spark plugs and towed it to their garage.....

There are so many possibilities that it is difficult to advise you. Apart from the immobiliser there could be a problem with one of the sensors such as the crank position sensor if the ecu doesnt get the right input from all the sensors it will prevent the engine from starting to stop potentially serious damage occurring. Your local fiat specialist or main dealer might be the best way forward.

FIAT MAREA 185 marea stalling 1.6

I have recently aquired my second marea this time a 1.6 gas conversion which stalls when warm (on gas and petrol) the gas is single point injection it stalls on either when hot it will allow the revs to come down for about three seconds and then dies. if you keep up the revs its ok. it drives fine through the rev range apart from idle. i have tried a new idle cotrol valve. any input would be gladly received.

FIAT MAREA 185 Crossover Where in Marea...

So... where it is Is it just a simple resistor or something better (doubt that). Thinking on changing tweeters and door spekers. I read that door will fit 16s. Gotta try that. Any info .

Hi not sure about the cross-over in the marea and it is possible that the tweeters are wired in parallell however a cross-over for the tweeter is not a bulky item and can be fitted in situ. Simple version To separate the high frequencies a capacitor is placed in series with the positive wire before the terminal. Full range input O----------------O Hi freqeuncy Output Typical values might be 2 or 4

FIAT MAREA 185 Marea weekend brakes

Hi all new boy saying hello Im looking at buyin a marea weekend its a 1.6sx. Test drove it yesterday really nice except one thing the brake pedal felt really flappy (excuse the expression). The brakes work fine but the pedal seems to do nothing for the first bit of travel and then do all the braking towards the end. Is this normal As I say the brakes themselves are good it just feels odd. Thanks for any input Daz

FIAT MAREA 185 Using Marea (Grundig) Radio CD-in for mp3 player

I have just bought an mStation - one like this httpwww.ullswatersystems.co.ukincarneo.htm - an excellent piece of kit and I have it connected through the modulator that comes with it however I find the signal is a bit noisy and normal radio reception which was never brilliant has gone way down with no MW or LW reception at all probably because the aerial lead is now 10M longer than before. I want

FIAT MAREA 185 Yes or No

Hi everyone Im thinking about fitting one of those K&N filtercharger things to my marea 2.0 20V saloon. Reason is that the air cleaner box is broken the screws have seized and the garage broke one trying to get it off thats their story. Would like to know before I try what are the benefits and what are the downsides to these filters. What happens to performance on a car with no other mods If I drive

FIAT MAREA 185 Increase JTD Turbo Boost

hi guys did couple of search in this forum and can really find the info that i am looking for. i am thinking of increasing the turbo boost of my year 2000 JTD105. i already plug in a Vector-Tuning box and it has been running well for a year. now i am on the second stage to install a manual boost controller (GFB Hallman etc) to jack up the pressure. i understand stock is running at 1bar and wondering

hi stylers thks for your input. ecu remapping for JTD is out of reach over hear (Malaysia). fyi there is only less than 20unit of JTD105 marea weekend running here. i hav been using the Vector Tuning box from germany for a yr now and i would say it satisfy me. however i believe with an slight increase of boost 1.2bar it could utilize the additional fuel being injected and have a better and complete

FIAT MAREA 185 mystery radio oddity

I have a marea 1.9TD after changing the cambelt the radio died checked the fuses all ok pulled the radio and metered the inputs one 12v all time one switched with ignition one eart and a couple that did nothing this seemed to agree with sticker on unit. Took radio to ice specialist and they pluged it in to their display counter and it was ok coming up with the code screen back in car no go or sometimes a couple of dots. Any ideas

FIAT MAREA 185 Odd Query re 20v engine

I have a 51 plate marea Hlx which was in excellent condition until I went into the back of somebody. The car has been well repaired by a friend until the sprayshop got their hands on it and it has not been right since. I am debating about whether it is worth putting it back onto the road particuarly due the horrendous road tax charges from next year something I am considering is putting the engine

FIAT MAREA 185 2.0 20v mpg - good or average

Hello ff over the last few weeks iv received great advice from you this has been my 1st non-stop journey since resetting the mareas system i drove non-stop to from gatwick airport last night a total of 130miles my speed was 65-75mph the tank was full (tescos 5p a litre off) and the fuel gague needle is sitting on the 1st line away from full so 16th of a tank used to drive 130 miles-can someone say

FIAT MAREA 185 clutch judder

Hi The car is 1.9JTD marea Weekend year 2001. I had clutch change 20k miles ago and now its starting to judder. The thing is that it judders only when engine is warm and pulling away in 1st gear. When I say warm it means that engine reaches running temperature. When engine is cold there is no judder at all. When I release the clutch pedal it judders just before clutch is fully engaged. If I push throttle

Hi Thought an update would do my ealier post justice. My problem was a busted input shaft bearing which damaged the input shaft cover and seal bush. This leaked oil out which got everywhere except the clutch plate. Anyway upon removing the gearbox clutch plate is worn. Flywheel okay and clean. rear crank oil seal also okay but I am replacing this seal nonetheless. Replaced Clutch input shaft bearing

FIAT MAREA 185 RPS on FIAT MAREA 2.4TD 125HLX 1997

For the past 18 months I have noticed that the engine sounds very noisy on start up and when its stationary. fiat told me last year that the timing belt tensioner needed replacing I had this changed by some other garage but it has not made any difference. 2 years ago I had the crank pulley replaced and recently the alternator tensioner replaced. The engine does seem a lot quieter when the water temperature

Hi Mark I take your point I was referring primarily to the manual pump. There is not much you can do to an electronic pump apart from checking the wiring if the input signals are wrong (3.5 to 3.9v). I think that you can still alter the idle speed by adjusting the control lever stop if the speed is low. You can also twist the potentiometer but that is a bit messy without measuring gear. Apologies if I have given incorrect information. I dont have a manual for the 2.4JTD.

FIAT MAREA 185 Engine removal advice

Hi everyone I have bought a 99 marea 20v with 120000km on the clock that has never had a timing belt change. I also am finding the clutch pedal quite heavy compared to my Multipla 1.6 and while the clutch is not slipping the heaviness makes me think it may be on the way out. So what do you think Should I pull the motor right out and do the clutch waterpump seals tensioners and timing belt all together

Thanks for that guys. The car is residing at my parents (too many fiats at my house at the moment) so I will go and have more of a look at it next week. I like the idea of giving it some welly in 3rd and seeing what happens. The concept of pushing the motor to one side to do the belt tensioner seals and waterpump sounds a lot better than removing the engine from what I have read Also I will see what

FIAT MAREA 185 Leaky Marea

1.6 1999 weekend (no sunroof). Problem rain water in foot wells. Which well depends in which way the car is tilting. I have been tilting to the passengers side and collecting the water. I have traced the waters path back to the holes on either side of the dash area. Holes can be seen if you pull off trim on the windscreen pillers or get your head in the foot well and look up. The holes carry the aerial

FIAT MAREA 185 Marea jtd130 hlx acceleration issues

Hello I am currently having some issues of acceleration with my marea (the JTD130 2.4 model). A diagnostic check by my local fiat dealer narrowed the problem to the infamous MAF sensor which I have now replaced. The original problem involved an intermittent loss of power. With the new MAF fitted the car produces a little more power but still has the intermittent power loss. The other thing I have noticed

It could be anything so if possible try and get some live data from the ECU while driving on the road. that should show you the throttle input and all the other engine sensor data and help pinpoint the problem. If the issue seems to be temperature related have a look at the coolant temp on the live data and also fuel rail pressure requested and actual values also MAP and MAF readings. Were there any

FIAT MAREA 185 Marea Weekend Fuel consumption

Hello I have been measuring the fuel consumption in my y reg 1.6 marea Weekend 100 SX. I am currently getting around 37mpg pottering around town with the odd trip on the motorway. I am away to put the roofbars on this weekend and see what difference this makes. Id imagine around a 10% drop in efficiency. Consumption seems to be very good at low speeds but on the motorway it really seems to guzzle juice. Is this commonDoes anyone else know what they do in their marea. cheers MK

Hi Those MPG figures are pretty close to my 1.6 SX weekend i did mange 45mpg once but have never been able to repeat it i think the problem with the motorway driving is the speed gradually creeps up without you knowing ive been cruising at 80 and found that soon its pulling 90 without input from me i must add that these speeds were recorded on the german autobahns rather than here in Blighty im getting

FIAT MAREA 185 1.8 marea weekend brake troubles

Hello there. We have a W reg marea weekend 1.8 with one problem - the brakes wont work well enough to pass MOT They do work but not in any hurry - the pedal sinks to the floor. Does anyone have any idea what may be the problem The system has been bled with no improvement.

Thanks for your input guys. We have swapped out the master cylinder but it is still the same. What does happen though are the following symptoms 1) Pumping pedal working brakes. 2) Constant pressure pedal sinks to floor. 3) With engine running and pumping the pedal the engine rpm drops indicating a possible vacuum leak. 4) Hissing from servo area when pedal sinks to the floor. 5) Rear brake shoes

FIAT MAREA 185 Marea JTD Whinewhistle prob

Any one come across anything like this I get a lowish pitched whining whistling noise under load - sounds very much like an air or vacuum causing it I cant find the ruddy thing It seems to be linked to either airflow or vacuum - i get it when flooring the car in low gears or under less provocation as i pick up the speed - its very consistent coming in at exactly the same revs is independent of AC heater

To back up what Polecat recommended its likely to be a bearing in the gearbox on the input shaft. As it happens under load its probably the thrust bearing. I have exactly the same problem on a series 2 landrover. Strangely enough that happened after I fitted a recon gearbox Take the garage that did the gearbox work out in the car so that they can hear it and hand it back to them. BEFORE you do that
