FIAT MAREA 185 Bleeding up fuel system 1.6 petrol

Year 2000 marea with no fuel filter. When I turn the key to start the car in the morning it turns over but doesnt start (may splutter) if I leave the key in the ignition postion for 2 secs before trying to start it fires up ok. I know this allows the fuel pump to prime (pressurise) the system. All subsiquent starts are perfect if less than 10 hours. I read somewhere about bleeding the system up but cant find where. Mines got the vapour lock canister behind the drivers wing.. Any ideas

FIAT MAREA 185 Ignition does it acutally have an accessory position

Stupid question. But I will sort out the wiring on my stereo tomorrow before I go out for the day (I hope). One of the setting on my stereo is ACC - ONOFF. The manual says that if I have an accessory position on my igniton I set it to ON if not I set it to OFF. As best I can see there is no accessory position on my Merea. To get the electrics to the windowstereo you have to have the iginition system

FIAT MAREA 185 Newbie here with a problem please help

Hi everyone. I do not know much about fiats but really like them so i will describe my problem the best i can Just bought a marea estate elx weekend 18 16v. The ABS light is on stays on all the time and never goes off so i took it for a diagnostic check and they said to me it doesnt even have ABS Please can anybody shed any light on this Thanks for helping

could have been added by the dealer (as an option extra for example). i think you may have been told you do not have ABS because the garage used the main diagnsotic socket and this will not allow a connection to the ABS controller so no ABS options would be shown suggesting no ABS module is present. this is a common mistake made when working on multiple 3pin connector setups (as used on several fiats

FIAT MAREA 185 RPM gauge gone mad...

Hi there Im new member here bought 1.6 marea -98 in April this year. Mainly everythings fine but I have few small-ish issues just one in this thread. When I start up RPM gauge stays at 0rpm. After 3-5 minutes it suddenly jumps to correct rpms but acts like maniac jumping from 0rpm to actual rpm or it just stays at 0rpm. In Very rare cases it shows correctly. It has been like this since April... Any hint -marsu

Hi and nice to be here. Thanks for this forum I searched a lot and already found some tips. But back to my rpm... My Golf-90 didnt have basically any electronics...... so I didnt find either the sensor or wiring. Pls check the photo and mark the place where to look for. My friends 2Ltr fiat marea Saloon is running on 4 Cyiinders. All 5 coils seem to be working OK as on changing over connector plugs spark can is obtained from the plug at faulty cylinder (No 5). FIAT MAREA 185 Immobilser Help Please

I am totally new to the newer fiats though in the past I have had a Mirafiori 126 and a punto Mk2 which were all great cars and I had no problems with them. Its the 1.6ELX and I am having real problems with the immobiliser. The guy I bought the car from

FIAT MAREA 185 marea weekend

I have a 2001 marea Weekend HLX 20v. My remote key is not working. I have fitted a new battery but still not working. I think the chip is broken. What do I do I cannot use my car as the alarm is going off every time I open the door Can anyone tell me what to do

Hi Assuming they havent changed it on the 2001 version Ill tell you how I switch off the alarm on my 1997 marea HLX 20V saloon. As well as the blue ignition keys have you got a small key about an inch long the blade of the key opens out to a kind of cup shape like the letter O if you were looking down on the key when it was standing on end. Assuming you have that the next thing is locate the fuses

FIAT MAREA 185 Fiat MAREA 1.9 TD Knocking Problem and power increase ANY ADVISE

Hi i have a fiat marea 1.9 td not the jtd model now the car runs ok as it should but is started to knock top end every so often now in the last 12months the injectors have been reconditioned and the solnoid on the injector pump replaced When the knocking starts it only happens for a few seconds anyway i think i have the problem on the first injector sensor as when i unplug the little wire from the

yes its screwed into the pump. you can hear it ticking when you turn on the ignition but it should stop after a few seconds. You cant bridge the injector sensor as there will be no timing info to the ECU then and the engine will constantly knock and run badly. If the fault is happening often enough go to a decent fiat or independent garage and get a diagnostic done as it may well show something. And

FIAT MAREA 185 Marea 20v Alarm questions

My 20v Weekend estate came with a red master key a blue key & a remote key fob which I dont bother using. If the battery goes flat or is disconnected I cannot start the car. The alarm goes off & the immobilser is activated. If I then lock & unlock the car with the remote everything goes back to normal & I can forget about the remote for a while.....but what happens if it breaks Is there an overide

Maybe......There are a couple of detectors on the A pillars possibly motion detectors that look added on but cos the keyfob has the fiat logo on it & there are fiat alarm stickers on the windows I thought it was original. What worries me is that if the battery is disconnected or goes flat I will need to reset the system with the remote to clear the alarm & immobiliser and Ill be stuffed if it doesnt

FIAT MAREA 185 Marea Alarm

onoff switch and have a look at the terminals on the back - make a note of the wire positions. Then remove the wires and buzz out the switch in the on position then you should be able to make an educated guess as to the pins which would be connected if it was in the off position and thus you can re-attach the wires in a new order to simulate it actually being turned off. Or if you are lucky and fiat

FIAT MAREA 185 ECU timing correction

Hello EveryBody I need some help. So we pluged the ECU to the Computer . We used the VISA program. No error but there is a field in the parameter list. This filed is the timing correction. And this value ( I think ) not good. What is the correct value So my value is 0 - ... deg. But sometimes this value goes to -23 deg. What is this What is the error or has anybody solution Ps The Engine is TD100 marea 97 Thank you

-23 means the ignition is 23 degrees advanced at idle but only occasionally because it is at 0 most of the time. thats not a problem you would expect the ignition to advance when the ecu determines that ignition advance is needed to make sure all the fuel is burnt in time. it could also retard slightly depending on the conditions but overall at idle you would expect to see 0 more often than anything

im not familiar enough with this engine to say exactly. however the basic principles of EGR systems mean the EGR vacuum solenoid (little vacuum valve) is controlled by the ECU and is turned on to allow vacuum to the pressure transducer (basically this swithes EGR on or off). The pressure transducer regulates the amount of vacuum to the EGR valve depending on engine load (exhaust back pressure). From

FIAT MAREA 185 Mods of the 1.8 engine

Hi It looks like Im the first guy trying to modify a marea car Do you have any experience in modifying the 1.8 ELX engine I have completely rebuilt the intake system (except the throttle air sensor and intake ports that hold injectors). Now with aircondition on Im like before with it off (measures show 10hp but I still dont trust them see my Generalgear box post). Of course Ive started with a K&N

Hi Alpa The modification sound interesting. Can you explain to me (if U dont mind)on how to advance the ignition as the engine never over heats. I think the igniton system is digital with static advance and timing. So no adjustment can be made. Cheer subija

FIAT MAREA 185 Side and head lights

The bloke I got my marea off has changed the headlight bulbs to these high power blue looking things he has also put in blue side lights. FIAT MAREA 185 110 JTD Overboost

Evening all have had the injector light coming on for the past couple off months now and AC Williams so far have replaced the Overboost valve and the MAF but the engine is still reporting the overboost error. I am presently awaiting a slot when i can get my car to grays in warwick for them to look at in the mean time i thought if anyone here would have an idea what can cause the overboost problem

The relay is a small black one in location D as specified in the marea handbook very very top left corner it is a tight fit to get in and out (no bigger than a matchbox). I pulled this out and tried to start the car and it just turned over so it is a relay for fuel or ignition etc. In the handbook there is a fuse for the injection system as well in there. I have tried to get AC Williams to tell me

FIAT MAREA 185 diesel nightmare

Problem no red key for the ECU so looks like a costly repair (really helpfully) dealer mentioned there may be people on here who could do something about the ECU without the red key so was he correct....would be grateful for some assistance

yes we have a guy called tony who can help if you need a red key or an ecu saving you a lot of money. this is his website httpmyweb.tiscali.co.ukdatarecall its unusual that a fiat dealer would send someone to this website for help instead of telling them them must pay a small fortune. you may have discovered the best fiat dealer in the country. we can probably fix your problem for free. can you explain

FIAT MAREA 185 Hi - Smoky TD100 weekend

Hi Folx Anovver Nooby Great to find your forums - I need a bit of help with my 1999 marea 1910 TD100 ELX Weekend. When it is ticking over it misfires & starts to smoke quite badly so starting is a bit lumpy (but it had the glowplugs checked several thousand miles ago before I got it). The smoke smells like diesel and its not using much oil. When driven at higher revs it takes off when the turbo comes

hear the timing solenoid ticking rapidly when you turn on the ignition . If the belt had slipped a tooth it would probably be running very badly - so unlikely but at that mileage it prob needs to be done now anyway unless it was done after 100k. If you dont know when it was last done then replace the water pump also. Its not too expensive. shop around for the whole lot try some motor factors and fiat

FIAT MAREA 185 Marea alarm - can it be isolated

The alarm system is not working properly (flat batteries on it I think) and it now seems responsible for turning my indicator lights on intermittantly leaving all four on permanently without flashing. This prevents the indicators from working when driving and flattens the battery - it does when the ignition is off too. Now I just want to isolate it and but it appears the supply to the alarm is off

FIAT MAREA 185 Marea 1.6 poor power

I have a marea 1.6 with a problem of the power. I tried correct this failure replacing some sensor Air temperature Water temperature MAP TPS and cleaned IAC and Injectors too replaced the Fuel Pump and spark and spark leads. When I turn on the air conditioning the car loss very power if I try start in a inclined street the car turn off. I measured the coil resistance and the seconday resistance is

The only chance is to change the coil. Costs about 60 euro. My friend had a similar but yet more serious problem so the coil must be the source of your problems. - As ive seen that you have changed complete ignition system except the coil. Try it nothing to lose.

FIAT MAREA 185 Marea power steering failure

hi guys hope you are all well. My problem is this on my 98 marea 1.8 elx the horn developed a problem of staying on all the time so i took the fuse out and took it to fiat in hayes middlesex they said i needed a new steering wheel unity and wanted to charge me 580 quid for it i made my excuses and left- well that was two weeks ago and my power steering suddenly failed today as i was turning a corner-

Sounds like the engine stalled chap. Notice that all the dash lights came on and the steering got heavy - exactly what happens if the engine dies when driving along. It sounds like it could be a loose connection in the ignition system somewhere - barrel

FIAT MAREA 185 Crank Case sensor

The rev counter speedo temp gauge and full gauge on my marea 2.0 HLX have stopped working. When you turn the key in the ignition once they work when you start the car they just go dead. Been told that it could be the sensor on the crank case .............. anyone else experienced this

Hi and welcome to the forum Are you saying that when you turn the key to the first position the instruments work but when you start the engine and release the key they dont work Dont think the crankcase sensor would cause that fault unless it was putting a funny earth onto the system I would check fuses and play around with the ignition key first before checking the sensor and then look for any obvious

FIAT MAREA 185 problem with engine when in idle.

I have an Weekend 1.8 ELX 99 and I have a problem when the car is on IDLE. Even that now is cold the car starts very good in the morning and works properly but as soon as the engine gets worm when you leave the car on IDLE (e.g. stop at the traffic light) the engine doesnt keep it 1000rpm at constant. It looks like the engine wants to turn off and than it get more power again. I am trying to find the

Never heard of Beru Ultra-X before but NGK are ok. I fitted some Iridium plugs to mine and they cured a misfire until I could get a faulty coil pack changed. Single electrode plugs tend to start wearing after about 10k twin electrode plugs last longer as both electrodes dont fire at the same time. Iridium plugs are harder and so last longer they also fire at a lower voltage as they are so thin and so extend the life of your ignition system.

FIAT MAREA 185 Glow Plug Warning Light Stays On

Hi all My issue is after I start marea the Glow plug warning lamp stays on very disturbing on a 200 mile drive. Any ideas anyone Thanks Ian marea Weekend HLX 2.4 99

Normally if there is a fualt in the cold start system then the glow plug warning light flashes for about 10 seconds after you start the ignition. Is it on constantly or flashing MAR is the position where everything is on but before you start the engine. Cheers Alan

FIAT MAREA 185 Interior light and radio problem

Hi People of fiatForum Im in a sort of trouble. Just got back my car from the service and its looks like one of the problems wont come up till I get back home. Like usually... All of my interior lights and the radio has stopped working. I checked the fuse box but all of the fuses looks healthy. The service manual refer to a 10amp SERVICE fuse but thats ok. Is there any other fuse for the interior lights

FIAT MAREA 185 Fuses

Hi guys... I opened the compartment inside my glove box today (the one that gives you access to the airbag internals) and found that directly in front of me there are what appear to be three sockets for fuses. A black one red one and green one. The red one has a fuse in it but the black and green ones are empty can you tell me if there is supposed to be one of these fuse things in there and what they are supposed to controldo. Thanks

If they are not fitted dont worry. You should have a 30A ignition system and a 15A Fuel Pump fuse in the glovebox somewhere.

1 tapping noise would suggest a dry tappet clicking noise would suggest a faulty relay or a spark to the head from a faulty coil rattle would suggest something loose or a cambelt related issue. 2 &163120 is a good price if it is in good condition. it would cost you more than 3 times as much new. 3 injection light should be thought of as the engine management light it means the ecu is detecting a fault

FIAT MAREA 185 Seat belt removal

Hi all need to replace seat belt for the MOT on my marea. Can any one give me some advice on its removal is it safe for me to disconnect the 12 volt cable (not sure what its called but the belt has a module attached which i believe makes the seat belt tighten up when in an accident ) to the seat belt. Ian

make sure you disconnect batery before you disconnect the pretensioner. in most cases you will be ok as long as you do not switch ignitionon with it disconencted but to prevent airbag system faults it is ebst to disconnect battery and wait 15mins before you disconnect the pretensioner. seatbelt removal is easy enough but the bolts require a fairly large torx bit. a torx key usually wont be enough to loosen them so a ratchet is needed. iansea100 thanked for this post

FIAT MAREA 185 petrol put in instead of Diesel

right. Ive done it. Ive put petrol instead of diesel into the tank. I was stressed to ell and was thinking of something else. Also Id just filled the wifes (Clio 1.2 petrol). You can get a diagnostic check at a garage to check if one of your sensors

Hi You should never drive with the red key it is a master used to reprogram the ECU . Get another blue key if you need a spare. The red injector symbol indicates a general fault in the fuelignition system. Try an injector cleaner first if that does not clear it then check the plugs to see if you are running lean or rich and get back to us. Carry out a general check for any loose plugs worn pipes etc. Good luck.

FIAT MAREA 185 99 weekend 1.6 starting probs

About a month ago my marea wend 100SV started to run a bit rough its also not starting as well as it used to even when warmed up . anyone got any ideas. also does anyone know what the proper spark plug gaps should be

With generic symptons you start with visual checks of your ignition and colour of plugs. Although much maligned a fuel additive can help if the fuel system has never been cleaned or not being cleaned recently. If you cant find any probs with that then well have a look at sensors.

FIAT MAREA 185 Lights on dashboard

Hi Anyone has a list of all lights on the dashboard of the marea Dont know what all of them mean...

The Injector is a fuelairignition system warning. It usually comes on for a few seconds when starting and can come on now and then when driving. It is only a problem if it stays lit all the time. A fuel additive is usually the first fix if it stays on together with a visual inspection of cables and sensors. Bulbs on the dash usually mean you have lamps out. The side that says STOP will be the side
