FIAT DUCATO Ducato Gearbox Cables

I put my 54 plate ducato 2.8 camper into reverse and lost all other gears. The local garage tell me that there are two cables leading to the gearbox and one was twisted over the other. Ive had the vehicle from new and had no problems other than silver paint peeling off the roof (rectified at fiats expense but now starting on the bonnet and drivers door). I assume therefore that it was built like this.

I saw a 2008 ducato last year that was selling for 8000 euro with very low miles. It had never been primed at the factory and about 13 of the paint had peeled off in large sheets never saw anything like it Insurance wouldnt pay out as it was faulty prior to being insured and fiat wanted to paint it but it would never be satisfactory finish.

244 models let alone for the early ducatos or even the pre 1999 models. I would get someone to operate the gear lever trying to select reverse while checking the selector lever operation on the gearbox top. Which will require lying under the vehicle (under the cab) to view the action of the selectors as if your model is like the later models you cannot see anything from the top. see - httpwww.fiatforum.comducato2276...-selector.html

FIAT DUCATO ducatoboxer stiff gear change

Hi all. Can anybody help The gear change on my boxer 2.2 hdi is awful. The gear stick goes back and forth ok but is very stiff going side to side and is a real pain to get into 5th. Has anybody had this problem or does anybody know what it is Thanks. Marc.

This is for a 2003 ducato 2.8 The gearchange works with two cables one for foreaft and the other leftright. There is a nylon block in the dashboard fitting under the gaiter to which the top ends of the cables are attached and the other ends go to separate attachment brackets on the gearbox case. The nylon block can distort under force which doesnt help. You may just have a failing cable (possibly just

There is a stabiliser bracket at the bottom of the cables underneath that keep the main selector steady. If the locking nut for this comes adrift this can give the same problem getting 1st 3rd and 5th engaged. Replace locking nut usually solves. If you take a look from underneath at the gearbox from the rear (behind the front wheels) where the selector cables come down you may see an open thread. If there is no nut on there this maybe the issue.

Except there is a different countershaft for the lighter vehicles and the 1.8 ton van. Petrol will be all wrong probably wont fit gearing will be all wrong and not designed for diesel torque. No major problem until last week when it became difficult changing down from 3rd to 2nd gear. No problems changing up. gear either crunching or going into 4th. New clutch about 3 months ago but cant see why this would be related. Has anyone had similar problem and if so what was cause and remedy. Cheers

FIAT DUCATO 1.9 TD Gearbox Oil Leak

2000 (w reg) 1.9 TD camper van. Recently had the box rebuilt as it was getting a bit rough though still functioning ok cost almost a thousand pounds to get done. Now sat on a campsite on Normandy after realising that the oil has drained out of the box on out journey from Manchester......... Cant really tell where the oil has leaked from as its been blown around by the air currents under the van.. Anyone

Welcome to the ducato gearbox club. Try looking at the speedo cable drive the plastic gear wears allowing it to push up and leak oil. i had this on my 1.9TD camper. Did the speedo needle waver or tick prior to this If it is this then it is easy to replace. If not then back to plan A. Still wrestling with my gearbox which was rebuilt and failed four times in the 1000 miles following. All covered by

FIAT DUCATO Slipping out of 5th gear

Hello My 96 ducato 2.5tdi van has started slipping out of 5th gear. gear can be selected and the gear hold power under lowmeduim revs and then slips out when accelerating any harder Anyone got idea ideas I did fit a new 5th gear 2 years ago.... cheers Oldsckooler

The van has a dash mounted gear stick which controls two different push rodcables. The smaller cable has adjustment and is connected to the small control arm on the gearbox. The larger cable (the one I would have thought need adjusting) doesnt seem to have an adjustment on it and is attached to the much large arm on the gearbox which feels like it has a fair amount of play. Ive also looked on the gearbox

FIAT DUCATO GRINDING GEARS ON 1st & REV

Hi to Everyone Got a never ending problem with my 1st & Rev on my 1991 ducato carrying a 564 Hymer. just wondered if anyone else has had this problem and has cured it sitting at the wheel dip clutch it used to be about three quarters down into REV or 1st and away now its foot onto the carpet grating gears will go in but difficult just lately its on the boards with total weight behind it to seek gears

Once again youre right. Theres no way the rev counter will be mechanically-driven. Since you have a common-rail engine it will be electronically-driven from the ECU . Youre also right that even before the advent of ECUs they were electronic often driven from a connection on the alternator. Those guys at the fiat franchise dont know what theyre talking about. That thick cable can only be going to the speedo. You can prove it of course by tracing it back to the gearbox as dirtyhands suggested.

and had been looped about to get it to fit in the engine compartment. I guess its a replacement and had been mis-routed. Anyway it had failed and fuzzed up at one of the bends. Unfortunately the jammed cable has stripped the teeth off the plastic pinion in the gearbox and a replacement is going to take 10 days to obtain. Quelle grande bummage. This whole sorry story does point to a problem with fiat

FIAT DUCATO II 1996 ducato 1.9 gear selecting

hi im having a bit of trouble with my old ducato the problem is wierd i can change gears up 1 to 5 ok but when i come to a junction or bend i cannot change down to 2nd or 1st unless im at a standstill . theres no crunching it just refuses point blank to evan attempt to engage either gear. just 345r are all ok garage told me synchro on 2nd but theres no unusual noises or whinning nowt so before i embark on a gearbox change any ideas please thanks

personally I would take it to them and ask what is supposed to be wrong with 2nd synchro they have no excuse for not being able to SHOW you if there is a problem maybe they can see something you cant now but if I were a betting man I would still be putting my money on the 5th gear adjustment and or the cables btw when did a gearbox specialist last say ...nothing wrong with it just adjust the cables 5 minute job and yes I am a cynic
