FIAT CINQUECENTO 170 1st gear difficult to select. Clutch cable adjustment needed

Hello fiatForum. Seicento Sporting 1999 (T reg). If my Sei is rolling even slightly forward (and occasionally when stationary) then it&8217s difficult to get into first gear. Other gears are fine. I&8217m assuming this isn&8217t normal. Perhaps (hopefully) I just need the clutch cable adjusted as mentioned in FAQ and here Might be relevant sometimes get a slight crunch when going into reverse yes

Yeah first thing adjust the clutch I find if the peddle is set back by more than about 2 from the brake peddle itll cause mischief with the gears but if its dead level with the brake peddle its a not totally engaged

go to the garage to adjust the clutch You nuts... 2x 10mm spanners is all you need. If you open the bonnet and stand in front of the car at the front to your right youll see a long threaded rod connected to a metal arm. I never get this right but I think that turning the nuts clock wise pulls the rod through the arm tightening the cable and causing the clutch peddle to rise. The rest is adjustment through feel

FIAT CINQUECENTO 170 fitting gear cable . please help me lol

hello im a newbie to this forum and to fiats got a 900 chento and the gear change cable went got a second hand one but when i took the old one off it was connected to a big lump held on with a circlip that i removed when i went to put it back on the shaft it had sank inside the casing and when i try to pull it back it seams to be on a spring that want let it stay out while i refit the big lump what do i have to do to refit it . thankyou very very much if you can tell me

I think you are describing the selector. Just remove the cable from the selector it just pops off and fit to your own selector. Cheers SPD

FIAT CINQUECENTO 170 Gearbox cable

Im having a bit of a problem reconnecting the gearlever cable on my Seicento Sporting the one that moves the lever left to right. Not sure if I should have unbolted it in the first place as Haynes seem to indicate splitting the ball joint (I read this after unbolting). I can get the pivot bracket back on the square ridge and bolt on ok but cant seem to get the lever back in the correct position so

FIAT CINQUECENTO 170 1995 Cinq Speedo Cable Not Fitting To Gearbox

Okay so bought my N reg 1.1i Sporting and speedo didnt work discovered that the two piece cable had broke. A new one piece cable was included with the car which fitted to the gearbox but got broken by me accidently when pulling through the bulkhead. Went to a breakers yesterday and found another one piece cable from a sporting and it does not screw onto the gearbox its like the nut is half a millimetre

Are you sure the one piece one is for a sporting Not sure which way round it is but the one piece cable could be for an 899 and not for a sporting. 899 speedo cables and 1108 sporting cables are different. Looking at past threads it seems a 1 piece cable is for the older set of clocks as well which i dont think your cinq will have.

Its okay found another speedo cable that fitted. And it was a 1108 sporting cable S might just have been different reg or something S

FIAT CINQUECENTO 170 Cinq gear linkage cable

Hi all my gear linkage cable snapped i have purchased a new one titled the LH gear linkage cable from of ebay but it was the wrong left hand one. The one that i require is the ball cupped end one. Does any one know where i can get a reasonably priced one from Also to make removal easier i removed the selector arm from the gearbox and now the spline has disapeared inside so i cannot get out. I am struggling please help. Great Forum Cheers Mark

They are very expensive a scrappy is probably your best bet. If no jow try Fluffy. I think theyre 60 quid or so from fiat . If youre very lucky you might be able to get he spline up with a strong magnet or even glue something to it so you can pull it up. I dont think it goes through the other side of the box or you could push it up.

FIAT CINQUECENTO 170 Gearbox Cable Bush

Hi Everyone Just brought one of these super little cars - it needed a new gearbox which I have fitted. Problem is the small bush on the gear cable is shot. Its the one that connects to the gearbox next to the other ball and socket type connection. Does anyone know if you can buy this bush seperately or do I need to buy new cables Thanks for any info in advance Mark

Not sure which bush you mean. If its a plain bush any local engineering shop will knock you one up for pence (or have something lying about that will do the job). Or try fiat . New cables are king expensive.

Thanks fingers. Its the small bush on the end of the cable in the eye that locates onto the pin on the selector - the small retaining clip goes on top of it. Its about 1cm in diameter.

FIAT CINQUECENTO 170 reverse gear inhibitor cable

i cant find one of these anywhere i cant get into 5th or reverse on the seicento and the gearleaver feels really loose without it springing back into the middle of neutral so im 99.9% sure its that cable is it easy to replace it and where do i get one cheers

fiat dealer or Fluffy. On the Sei Sporting it doesnt connect to the gearbox but to a thingy on the gear lever mechanism. mrcinquecento thanked for this post

Its unlikely to be that. The inhibitor cable only stops the selector going into reverse. Undo the 8mm bolt(13mm head) beside the cable and pull it out. You will need to take the reverse light switch out to get it back in. Without the cable the box should now go into reverse without needing to push the knob. The selector springiness is in the selector box under the gear stick itself the actual selectors on top of the box are not springy at all. Cheers D

On the Sei Sporting its like this (best pic I could find) no physical connection between inhibitor cable and gearbox whatsoever. Bloody Seis doncha just hate them

Its even worse picture when you read the legend and its going on about 1a and 1b when the picture has 2a and 2B Does that cable not then trigger the same cable to the box as a Cinq Or is it inside the selector box itself that the detent is Cheers D

FIAT CINQUECENTO 170 how do you change the gear lever cable

hay folks am trying to find out how to change the cable that connects to the gear lever and gos to the gear box. its the one for changing gear. i can kind of see how to do it but i dont know it its a circlip on the gear lever or not and if it is how do i get it off as there is very little space to work in

FIAT CINQUECENTO 170 cinqsei gearstick pushrod cables.....

are they the same between each car engine wise they are exactly the same but what about the gear stick and gear selection pushrods need to know as im stuck weather to buy a cinq sporting or for the same money just the bits i need from a seicento

right...... im converting a 899cc seicento into a 1.1 sporting all i need to know is if a cinq uses exactly the same gear stick and pushrods (well push cables) to select gear... it would cost me near enough the same to buy just the engineboxloomsgearstik ect... from the scrappys then it would to buy a full cinq sporting. does that make any sense now lol

Its the same gearbox on both (Well Im fairly sure it is)...so it shouldnt matter as long as its a 1108cc youre getting the bits from

Quote Its the same gearbox on both (Well Im fairly sure it is)...so it shouldnt matter as long as its a 1108cc youre getting the bits from Gotcha. AFAIK its essentially the same gearbox the Cinq is the only one I think with the reverse inhibitor cable but that shouldnt matter. Just fit the lot rather than try a mix nmatch. In fact buying the complete car is the way to go as there are likely to be

FIAT CINQUECENTO 170 gear selector cables - MOT

just been checking over the car and noticed that the two rubber boots on the ends of the gear selector cables have perished and not covering the cable no more. would these be picked up on MOT cheers

Nope not motable Might be worth putting some ptfe spray on the exposed cables to prolong their life though.

brill just what i wanted to know does anyone know if you can get just the gators off fiat or do you have to get the whole cable assembly

FIAT CINQUECENTO 170 gear cable brackets

hi can anyone please photograph how their top gear cable bracket is bolted on to the box by the engine to gearbox bolts does it connect to a bracket if so what does it look like i have the other end sorted underneath the other bracket but im stumped how its meant to go at the engine end and i cant find any pics anywhere cheers rob

They are expensive. Which cable (There are 2). Fluffy or scrappy -- I think te main Cinq Sporting cables are the same. Check with ePer .

Do check that the clips are still in place at both ends. cable failure is very rare unless some hamfisted pillock has been at it. Not eBay but ePer (under the FF banner up top of the page).

FIAT CINQUECENTO 170 speedo cable gear box help me please

right bougt a gear box for my siecento but when i fitted it the speedo was an elec tronic sort so i took this out then put the bit off the original box in but the cable was to short and going so i streched it but this worked for a bit but the speedo was going to quick help me please thanks tony ban g

Try again with a new cable. My guess is that the issue is the routing of the cable rather than anything else.

so new cable do the boxes have the same setup then so interchangerable

Should be the same. Cant see any logic in fiat changing it.

The seicento ones look to be different. The cables off the 1100 might fit but you would have to lay the cables side by side to compare.

There is no inhibitor on the 899 its only two cables. Most faults I have seen concern wear in the cups at the gearbox end. Cheers D
