FIAT CINQUECENTO 170 Needing some information on engines

Hey all Right i am currently running a 899cc engine in my Cinq that has to date done 124000 miles and still going strong. But whilst looking at her today and having to top herup with oil ans stop smoke every week i am now starting to consider an engine swap but would like to have a nother 899 just tune it up a fair bit I was considering a 1.2 conversion a while back but for some-one with absolutely

It is simpler and almost certainly cheaper to change the whole car for an 1108 engined variety. The gearbox drive shafts gearlinkage exhaust alternator and starter are all different so its a major job. I have done the conversion but only because I was able to get a complete rolled Sporting. To tune the 899 whip the engine out and check for bore wear before doing anything. It may be possible to rebore

RallyCinq So basicallywhat your saying is if i want a 1.1 engine buy a complete Cinq Sporting and go from there. So it is still posibble to get a fair bit more power out of the 899 just may have to make some bits myself. Think the Tricker tb would be a nice start I can get my uncle to do the porting too hes a precision engineer who sometimes dables in the car world AppleSei Many thanks just taking

FIAT CINQUECENTO 170 cinq engines

Hi Im new here so hello all sorry my first post is a question but Im a bit lost. My 95 899 cinq engine is (according to Haynes) supposed to have Hydraulic tappets but it hasnt they are just normal adjustable ones. 2 questions 1 Why is this 2 What are the clearance settings Thanks for any help Tony

Mine are completely shot and cant seem to get replacement ones will Uno ones do just the same job Tony

Why are they completely shot Cheers D

FIAT CINQUECENTO 170 ECU question for those with late engines in Cinqs

Afternoon Can anyone advise whether the ECU needs the electronic speedo sensor in order to work properly Im using a Mk2 Punto 1.2 and want to keep the cable speedo but I have a feeling the ECU requires speed sensor. I want to just swap it for a worm drive thingy from a Cinq.. Can anyone advise Thanks Ben

completely seperate from the ecu . just swap the worm. you could always use a punto 75 ecu to run the mpi 1.2 that will ignore the need for the airbags ect. as the mk2 ecu monitors LOADS of useless crap inside the car like airbags and bulbs out.

FIAT CINQUECENTO 170 Differences between 1.2 and 1.4 16v engine

Hi Im actually a fiat 127 hobbyist but I found out that cinquecento owners have been dealing rather a lot with these 1.2 and 1.4 16v engines. So my questions is about weather or not I can put 1.4 16v crank and pistons to a 1.2 16v block. What differences are there that could stop this from happening The cc difference mostly comes from increased stroke ( 78.9084.00 mm ) but also from a 1.2mm bore difference

FIAT CINQUECENTO 170 Technical Engine Info

Just thought the following would be useful to some of the members..... Power Unit and Drive Train Info The engine used in the cinquecento Sporting is an 1108cc version of fiat s F.I.R.E. engine which produces an adequate 54 horsepower at 5500rpm and 63lbsft of torque at 3250rpm when combined with the cars weight of 735kg this equates to a figure of 75bhp per ton. Mechanically it is a simple and yet

FIAT CINQUECENTO 170 cinqsei turbo FAQ

Right so you want to give your cinqsei a bit of oomph 1st thing to consider over the standard 1108cc engine is an upgrade to the 1242 unit Engine upgrades Now if that doest satisfy your power needs or you already have a 1242 then you need a turbo D This guide will mainly focus on the SPI (single point injection) engines for turbo &8217ing. With the MPI (multi point) you could turbo it but it has a

FIAT CINQUECENTO 170 Help

Seen a seicento for breaking on ebay but its a 1999 and mines a 2001 andd its a sporting would this not fit my car as mines only a sport (not sporting) and its 2 years younger

for Vauxhall though badged similar to Fords. L - Luxury GL - Grande Luxury GLS - Grande Luxury Super Special. In the early 70s you could also get just an S model (Super) and also SL (Super Luxury). The sports models were the HS HSR range of Firenza Chevette range of Droop Snoots. I think the letters stood for High Sport Rally. management. Youd still need to do this on an 8v regardless though. There are easy cars to buy bits for and do good turbo swaps on the Cento isnt one of them. If you want forged bits and turbo kits off the shelf buy something more popular otherwise be prepared to spend a lot of time money and do a serious amount of research to achieve what you want. FIAT CINQUECENTO 170 Sei cooling improvements

Recently bought a Sporting on a V 2000 for my son to learn in and have been very impressed with it myself. After 30 years of riding large capacity high powered sportsbikes that can literally humiliate any car shy of Porsche and Ferrari I have actually found a car I can have fun driving Most cars are a total bore because you are too detached from what is actually happening and I have unfortunately driven

Remember that Seis and all FIRE engines are known to generally run hot. fiat know this and the engines are designed for it. The electric cooling fan is annoying sometimes in traffic but you get used to it and I wouldnt get worried about temp until you start modifying the car. You could always use the cold air feed tubes from an induction kit (they only cost around a tenner) if there is somewhere specific

FIAT CINQUECENTO 170 Mad engine swap idea how idiotic is this

Hi guys i just want to start by saying that i am not actually thinking of doing this as i dont have the time skills or funds to undertake this i just want to discus the theoretical possibility. Yesterday i was browsing about a bit and found out that both the bravo and punto (mk2 HGT) come with an 1.8 16v unit. Now i figured if the punto normally fits a FIRE engine you might be able to do some bodging

complete cars are cheap to buy (although the 155s seem to have vanished) but the engines are pretty expensive to work on. fiat Alfa unreliability makes the Ducatis 15000 mile service interval look very welcoming I still think the old 8v Alfa twinks are wonderful engines and with EFI and ITBs they wont be far behind the 16v lump.

FIAT CINQUECENTO 170 16valve development thread

ok so no one has started one of these yet. 16valve engines are now becoming very cheap (almost like the 10 a penny 8valvers) but as some of you will know the the 16valve head is not...well... brilliant. and this is mainly due to the horrid hydralic lifters which fiat used to make production and maintenance cheap... good for joe blogs... not good for people who want power. so whats the problem with

FIAT CINQUECENTO 170 Track Lemon - 1.4 Cinq track toy

Ive posted this on some other forums and completely forgot to put it here. Oops. Originally this was to be a Panda project but Oldschool convinced me that what I really needed was a stripped out Cinq because theyre lighter. And he had three. Or four. Or twelve. Its hard to know the exact figure at any given moment. His Cinq shell habit is more out of control than my Toyo R888 habit. Anyway the argument

FIAT CINQUECENTO 170 Cinq 1.1 Sporting with Punto 1.2 MPI

Hi writing from Norway... Been a member for some time had a few Puntos. Just bought a -97 Cinq Sporting as a project with no engine in.. but has got a spare one from a Punto SX. This is complete with keys wiring ecu and everything. Seems to me (by searching the forum) allmost all are using 1242 with SPI ...Why not use MPI and get more power Will the wiring cause any problems I have planned to use the

throttle bodies You need more than (say) 90bhp You want to run an aftermarket ECU If the Punto is SPI (and 98 will surely be SPI ) Id use the Cinq ECU and chip it. To make the exhaust longer either cut and shut a peice of pipe into the downpipe to extend it or get someone to cut a chunk of 10mm steel to match the manifold to downpipe joint and use 2 gaskets. 1.4 16v engines now make up most of fiats

FIAT CINQUECENTO 170 engine build plan

ok i have a seicento sporting mpi 53 plate and been thinking about building a complete engine up for it i have done this with other cars but not 100% on the fiat FIRE engines so far i have come up with 1242 8v bottom end 16v pistons and rods from a punto My current Head mpi 1.1 75 Cam shaft standard headgasket wanted to go turbo but parts are far too hard to sauce evern more so for the mpi so im hoping this set up will be similar to a low boost 1.1 set up

I have ordered some ally plates 6810mm to make some engine mount spacers. I think 6mm might just do it to clear the mount with the alternator belt but might put too much strain on the two outer mounts We will see. If it works then a complete standard engine could be fitted without the need for grinding one of the engine mounts and messing with pumpspulleys. The pump will take about 2 weeks to arrive to test this option. I have noticed that the auxillary belt pulleys for the 1.1 panda engine and the 1.2 punto grande engines are not the same. The flat parts for the crank sensor triggering are at different points. What happend to fiats unification here then Does any one know which ecu runs the 1.1 panda engine

FIAT CINQUECENTO 170 3 Centos spend day at Rolling Road

We had a nice day at the rolling road today for a bit of fun and to check how the 3 pretty differetn set up cars cars were running. We had Emmas Seicento 1.4 16V NA Jamies Seicento 1.1 8V hi-boost turbo and Alexs 1.2 8V lo-boost turbo . So first up the 1.4 16V found to be running a bit rich bottom end so Emerald tweaked. 92bhp at the wheels which is 109bhp5787rpm at flywheel & 103lb ft(139.5NM)4829rpm.

Copied from Puma Racings site. To round off the articles on power and torque here is a real example of how the coastdown losses from an actual car were measured on a rolling road dyno. Some time ago I asked a colleague to run a series of tests for me on their rollers. What we needed was a car with a reasonably well quantifiable flywheel bhp and one that we could run in any gear without getting wheelspin

2-stroke reciprocating engines are a completely different matter altogether. The principles that apply to them are much more complex than 4-stroke reciprocating piston engines. The 4-stroke engines on motorbikes to start are much more fragile units with far more technical inconveniences. I have not denied that you can tune backboxes. The technical solution is not to take something and try to make it

FIAT CINQUECENTO 170 help needed with fire engine conversion

could someone post up a link to a build thread of sticking a 1242 fire engine in do all the mounts line updriveshafts etc what are the biggest brakes i can fit on it that go under 13 wheels are there any problems i need to overcome when fitting a fire engine cheers guys.

I remember kritip saying to me the other day that it was great to drive so im guessing handling wasnt too badly effected at all. The engines themselves are the same cylinder casting just with bigger bores and slightly tampered water ways. The heads is where it seems to change most (obviously 16v slightly bigger head) and that is where some of the extra weight comes from. Quite light engines though as I could happily carry my complete (minus gearbag) 1.2 8v around the garage. Thanks

k sounds like a bloody good plan i gotta start learning the technique for launchin my bog standard cinq... FIAT CINQUECENTO 170 Water Pump and Manual for 2001 Seicento

My 2001 Seicento overheated and after a few months of screeching noise I want to change the water pump to see if that was the cause. Two questions 1. Are there two types of water pump for a Seicento I

You need to fill up and bleed the cooling system. The 899 engines seem less prone to HG issues than the FIRE engines. Signs of a possible HG issue are coolant loss rough running (especially on initial start up) mayo on oil filler cap and especially dipstick. If it seems OK Id not worry overmuch. None of the above signs are completely conclusive but if you spot one get a compression test done.

FIAT CINQUECENTO 170 FIRE tuning in FAQ

FIAT CINQUECENTO 170 Mad engine build idea - would it work

Right. Ive got the cento bug again. I miss my old one especially the way for a 1.1 it used to shock some people. So Ive decided that now I have a good job and earn a steady wage I want to build a mad cento project. I have had an idea but need opinions on whethe it would work or not and what i could do to improve the idea I am thinking something along the lines of 1368 16v bottom end Early 1242 16v

1108 crank almost certainly wont fit the block and big end diameter is completely wrong. 1.2 is 70.8 mm bore x 78.9 mm stroke 1.4 is 72 mm bore x 84 m stroke Stroke of either is probably too long for really high revs regardless of whether you could convert to solid lifters. FIAT CINQUECENTO 170 Cinq Sporting dead engine what are my options

Hi All The engine in my 1998 cinquecento Sporting has developed a terminal rattle. So I need to replace the engine ASAP. Ive been told that theres a 1.4() engine thats a straight swap is this right If so what engine is it and is it a straight swap I dont want to mess about doing a conversion as I need the car back on the road as soon as possible. If its not a straight swap Ill just drop another Sporting engine in. Any advice would be great. Cheers Frank.

There is no such thing as a completely straight swap even the 60 bhp 1.2 8v unit needs a small spacer to lengthen the downpipe. In terms of easy to difficult your options - 55 hp 1.1 sporting straight replacement - 60 hp 1.2 8v (punto 60) needs a downpipe extension - 75 hp 1.2 8v (punto 75) needs a complete MPI conversion ecu fuel system etc.. - 80 hp 1.2 16v (bravo 80) MPI conversion very little

FIAT CINQUECENTO 170 Splitfire vs denso iridium

Just wondering whats better in everones opinion splitfire triple platinum spark plugs or denso iridium spark plugs What exaclty is the difference between them or is it just what their made of. Ive got splitfire plugs and leads and was just curious.

Splitfires are complete crap I have heard stories of electrodes breaking off.& taking out engines.Cheaply made gimmicks IMHO. The point of Iridium plugs is to reduce the voltage load that it takes to fire them.Thats why they have a very small electrode diameter .4mm on Denso plugs.According to their blurb they take 5000.0 less volts to fire than a platinum plug. They are fitted as standard equipment
