FIAT BRAVO Daughters Brava Woes

Hello fiat Freaks My thread concerns my daughters 2007 fiat Bravo 1.4 Active. She bought this car from Arnold Clarkes in Scotland paid over the odds for it obviously. When she bought the car it came with 4 different low profile tyres fitted. I think the originals would have been Continentals...well there was only one Continental fitted. The tyre inflation kit was used The car is fitted with fiat 17

FIAT BRAVA 182 Brava automatic cold start noise

Hello everybody (my first post) Ive recently bought brava 97 automatic (with 71K kms) and found a strange problem which could not be detected before purchase as it would only show up during cold start. After the cold start in the morning the engine starts easily and runs smoothly but pressing the accelerator pedal seems to choke it and I have to let it run for some time before the engine will rev up.

This gave me a clue that the problem might have a different source altogether. I found that the noise is actually coming from the left hand side of the compartment in the belts area while the gearbox is located on the right (watching from the front). I spoke with a service guy who suggested tightenning the alternator belt and Ill have to bring the car there next week (thats about the only decent fiat

FIAT BRAVA 182 Fiat Brava 1.6i (96 On) Sx Advise

Can anyone tell me what the feul consumption is on this car I am realy thinking of buying one as it looks a really nice car. Could anyopne give any other advise regarding this model Thanks Stanna

I have a brava 1.6 and its been great since Ive had it. Other than a scheduled service and a new front tyre it hasnt needed anything in 25000 miles. They are lovely cars. Fuel economy isnt great though Im getting under 30 mpg.

Though a diesel has an allowance of 0.80 Liter per 1000km. Based on 0.30 liter oil

FIAT BRAVA 182 HT Leads - smoother idle

Morning chaps. As the title where would be a recommended place to buy a new set of HT leads for my Bravo (2001 plate Bravo 1.2 80sx). Idle speed is fine but seems slightly less smooth than it used to be. Nothing excessive but more noticeable. Certainly a little more noticeable than my Dads MkII Punto 1.2 elx (with the same engine I believe). Advice as always appreciated greatly.

a full service (every 20k) includes the leads so i wonder what else your full service has been missing consult the service schedule to make sure you arent missing anything else.

Originally Posted by jug a full service includes the leads so i wonder what else your full service has been missing consult the service schedule to make sure you arent mising anything else. Fair comment. That said perhaps Im going by the wrong book... My full service is New Oil New Oil Filter New Air Filter New spark plugs New Fuel Filter Renew Coolant Bravos had this twice in my 11 months of ownership.

And if so does one exist for the 1.2 engine only ever use the correct plugs for your car. in this case that is NGK DCPR8EKC for a 0599-0799 model and NGK DCPR8E-N for 0799 onwards. check the service schedule in the fiat workshop manual (vol3 for your car) www.babarmalik.com ledmods .htm

FIAT BRAVA 182 Brava 1.8 misfire- what am i looking for

My mate has a 1.8 brava late model w i think. anyway it has got a misfire when pulling off is fine on idle and no warning lights and recovers at speed. apart from the usual (HT Leads) what should I be looking for I understand that this engine uses coil packs one for each cylinder. If it was a pack would the light come on Also if it was an injector fault would a light come on

i dont understand why so many people ignore their service schedule its a false economy and ends up costing you more money plus the inconvenience of having the car off road when something fails. id never buy a car that had not been serviced correctly.

FIAT BRAVA 182 ECU problem

Hi Im a newbie on here. Ive got a 2000(x) brava HSX which Ive had for about 3 years. the only problems Ive had previously have been general wear & tear and the cars been always run vwey well. Now however the car chugs and splutters at low revs and I feel it might start to kangeroo hop. Ive taken it to two garages thinking it might be the injectors but they have been tested and are all fine. Could this just be a fault on the ECU and if so can this be reset somehow

ok on a 1.6 i would want to measure the resistance of the injectors before i assumed they were ok. why garages cant do diagnose injector fauls very well even fiat dealerships and on the 1.6 its by far the most common cause of your problem. however if youre happy to scratch injector failure off the list and you dont want to get your multimeter out to test them well move on to the next most likely issues.

FIAT BRAVA 182 complete overhaul

Right i am giving my car one hell of a service next thursday and i was wondering what parts to change clean etc etc. i have started the list of what i am doing already but can everyone let me know if there is anything else oil oil filter spark plugs cambelt air fiter flushing water system thermostat

dont repalce things for the sake of it. for example there is no point replacing the thermostat if it isnt stuck openclosed. if you had enough money to waste it like that then you wouldnt be driving an old fiat would you. go through the service schedule that tells you exactly what you should be doing.

FIAT BRAVA 182 Brava engine stalls on braking

This problem has recently shown up on my 1.8 brava (year 2000). When braking particularly on a slight downhill slope the engine will cut out. This doesnt happen all the time just now and then. Does anybody have any ideas on what might be going on Thanks.

FIAT BRAVA 182 please help

COULD SOMEBODY PLEASE HELP ME OUT I HAVE JUST serviceD FOR A FRIEND P REG brava 1.4 12V SX AIR & OIL FILTER PLUGS LEADSOIL & PETROL FILTER . THE CAR WAS RUNNING A LITTLE ROUGH SO I SAID LETS service IT & THAT SHOULD SORT IT OUT . SHE COULDNT REMEMBER THE LAST service. UNFORTUNATLEY THE service HAS NOT REALLY MADE ANY DIFFERENCE THE CAR ALMOST SOUNDS LIKE IT IS STRUGLING TO RUN ON ALL CYLINDERS

poor startijg hot and cold poor running and its a 1.4 my money is on low compression due to worn camshaft which is very common on the 1.4 they need oil changes much more regularly than the service schedule suggests. poorly serviced examples eat camshafts no exceptions.

FIAT BRAVA 182 problems starting

hi can anyone please help me i have just purchased a brava 1.2 16v 2000 model and it is suffering when i try to start it its a problem which a friend of mine is have with his bravo also and we are both puzzled by this problem....

Originally Posted by rich2526 i have a similar problem with my 1.8 not starting when cold and sometimes when worm fuel pumps ok starter motors ok cold start problems are often due to weak ignition or low compression. replace plugs if they have not been replaced in line with service schedule. is starter motor turning at full speed a weak battery is another common cause of cold starting probs.

FIAT BRAVA 182 starter motor

right i have 1.6sx but the starter motor is goin so i was just think would a 1.4 or 1.8 start motor fit or do i have to deffo get a 1.6 one

if it turns over at the correct speed then it cant be the battery. plugs and leads can be the problem. if they have not been replaced in line wiht the service schedule then replace them asap. poor compression is a favorite cause for cold starting problems. its the main cause of cold starting problems on high mileage cars. your 1minute of cranking to start does sound like typical compression loss symptoms.

FIAT BRAVA 182 EOBD Failure Help Needed

I have a 1.3 fiat brava 80 16v formula the problem i have is the engine control system failure light has just come on was not speeding just turning a corner then i started to kangaroo jump so i pulled over and the EOBD light was on. Any ideas how i can sort this problem out asap please as i rely on my car for mobility. Many thanks

it sounds like a misfire has started. check for a spark on all 4 sparkplugs simple ignition problems are often the cause of misfires especially if the plugs and leads have not been changed in line with the service schedule. if you have no spark on one plug it suggests a lead is faulty. if you have no spark on 2 plugs then it suggests the coil pack is faulty. also check the coolant level as head gasket

FIAT BRAVA 182 car abit rough

cars running abit rough when idleing. its had a new coil pack new water pump new frnt suspension on drivers side new plugs a new HT lead new cambelt and had the system flushed. i had a lot of problems tht have errupted in the past 3 days lol everything back to normal now its just running a little rougher than say a couple of weeks back. if i took it for a service would it cure the rough idleing the

if plugs and leads havent been changed in line with service schedule then get them changed. plenty of probs like this are due to HT leads.

FIAT BRAVA 182 noisy noisy bravo

i need help soon before i end up selling my little car car is very noisy and rattly on start up was goin to service it but dont want to throw money at it if its going to break my temp gauge sits at about a quarter on normal runs but motorway runs the gauge will sit about half and a smell of burning oil seems to be very evidentwant to replace plugs oilair filter and leads do u think this will make a iffernece because the one thing i dont want to do is get rid of my car

noisey and rattly on startup so that suggests its not noisey or rattly once warmed up which engine is it if the servicables havent been changed in line with the service schedule then they should be changed.

FIAT BRAVA 182 Car Pulling Please Help

Hi all when accelarating (more than you normally should) my car seems to pull as if i pushing the brake handbrake and then accelerates again its not a major problem that annoys me but just a problem that is worrying me because i am going on a 6 hour journey sunday and wondering if it is safe Please Help I have changed the fuel filter yesterday coz sum1 said it was that but no joy

which car is it i need engine and year. when you say pulling you actually mean it hesitates under load. that is often caused by weak ignition so spark plugs and HT leads would be things to check and replace if they have not been replaced in line with the service schedule.

FIAT BRAVA 182 Stickies

It has been commented on a few times that we have no useful stickies in the Bravoa section. Now with most of us being loyal BOO members who use that website and how-tos for such things you might think we dont need any. But a few FAQs here might be useful. So are there any useful threads that you think should be made sticky or a new thread started oon a particular topic I would be interested to see

FIAT BRAVA 182 1.4 12v economy

Hi I have read that this engine is the probably the worst of all the brava engines and not particularly economical but we only seem to get about 50-60 miles out of a tenner. Seems crazy that it could be that bad on the fuel I almost get more miles out of my Skyline Does this sound about right or are there any common faultsproblems that could be causing it to use more fuel than it actually needs Thinking

Mine does 35mpg although Im a fairly staid driver compared to some and the car is kept well serviced. The engine isnt as efficient as some partly because it is single point injection but its not that bad for its generation. If youre getting 25mpg something is wrong either with your driving or maybe with the EMStyre pressures. And heres to defend the 1.4......1.2 the gearbox blows up (allegedly). HGT

FIAT BRAVA 182 juddering

hi i have a fiat bravo 1.4 12v 1997. on tickover the revs seem to fluctuate also when the car is driving it judders sometimes as though it is not getting fuel even on a full tank. the car seems to use a lot of fuel i have been told it may be a temperature sensor that controls the fuelling as the temperature of the engine changes has anyone any idea what this sensor is called and let me knoe if you

Originally Posted by jonnybravo88 i have been told it may be a temperature sensor that controls the fuelling as the temperature of the engine changes that would be the coolant temperature sensor on the thermostat. on the 1.4 the same sensor is shared by the temp gauge and the ecu so if your gauge is working you know the sensor is fine. judder is a misfire so it could be ignition. have the plugs and leads been changed in line with the service schedule do you know when they were last changed

FIAT BRAVA 182 I actually cant stop crying

im more gutted than i think ive ever been.... ever.. driving back from work tonight... (well from chez back to office in sheff) going down a bypass... there was a slight bump in the road.. next thing i know... SMASH bonnet flips up smashed the windscreen (its not actually fallen through just all cracked) bonnet is bent to hell.. its actually bent to the shape of the roof... sunroof is smashed (bonnet hit that too) and the roof has some big dents in it

oh kay thats terrible Originally Posted by dave normally happens if some one hasnt shut bonnet properly if you dont grease the catch at least once a year it gets very stiff then when you dont slam the bonnet shut with force it looks shut but it is actually only stuck on the catch and the locking pin hasnt moved in to position. lesson to learn people it is critical that you grease the mechanism annually

FIAT STILO Cambelt Replacement

Hello I have a Stilo 1.4L petrol version 2004 registration. It has run around 41000. My garage tells me that I need to replace it. Will I be risking it if I hold on till 50000 I bought the car second hand and I do around 5500 miles per year. What else is worth changing along with the cambelt I read about changing pulleys and water pump. Do they apply to Stilo as well Much appreciate your inputs.

FIAT PUNTO 6speed Box

I know you could get the 6speed box on early mk1s but will it fit the 98 mk1 And is it worth it as Ill be doing a lot of motorway miles in the next two years and it really isnt happy revving at 80mph all day long. Or should I just sell it and find something bigger E.g. Cit ZX 1.9TD

changes (every 36000 miles not 72000 as per the service schedule). A mate of mine had one that he sold when it got to 160000 miles but it was still going strong which was helped because he did change the oil more often than required. If you can afford one you might get into an early Xsara 1.9TD or a mega-mileage 2.0HDi both are worth paying a bit more for (the build quality is much improved). fiat
