Answers and questions: fiat brava oil system

To Simon The Pieman I have had a similar issue with my 1.4 96 Bravo the car seems to have drop in power after 20min driving. I have managed to control the fault by removing all electrical plugs under the bonnet then spraying with light spray oil. This removed the issue for only 5 months I repeated this process and then replacing the spark plugs and all spark plug leads the issue has not return. For

FIAT BRAVA 182 High oil on lcd display

Hello guysgirls im new here and guess what I have a problem with my brava JTD 105 from 2001. when starting engine it displays High oil on the lcd screen and after few sec it dissapears. Can anyone enlight me to what that means Im not good at mechanics so please dont make fun

I wouldnt drive it Drain the oil and refil to the correct level. The crankshaft will be churning up the extra oil in the crankcase will cause the oil to get foamy and full of air bubbles air bubbles do not pass through bearings well and would cause less oil to reach the top of the engine thus resulting in lower oil pressure and worn upper engine components and failed bearings. Also the resistance of

FIAT BRAVA 182 Still low Oil pressure after engine renewal

Hi All I have a 99 1.6 fiat brava with 170k Kms. The problems started after I bought the car and did an oil change. After cruisin in the city the oil pressure light starting to flicker on idle. The following things was replaced - oil pressure switch nothing changed - oil pump (the old one was worned) nothing changed - checked the main bearings it has signs of wear and scratches so renewed the crankshaft(step

Proper mixture in the system No wrong coolants mixed or air in the system (air in the heater system also messes things up) On my 1.6 brava the temp gauge only rises 1mm above the middle mark regardless of the weather.

FIAT BRAVA 182 burning oil

I have got a 2001 1.6 16v with about 70k on it it doesnt smoke but uses about a pint of oil every 1500 miles i was told these engines are just designed to burn oil any advances cheers

designed to burn oil what a load of crap. my 1.6 didnt use a single drop. obviously a tiny amount of oil is used to lubricate the piston rings and is then burned in the combustion chamber but this usage should mean your car is still above min on the dipstick after 10k. the most likely explanation is a leak such as at the sump plug or sump . check carefully for signs of leaking. at 70k you would not

FIAT BRAVA 182 Smoke on start up and using Oil

Anyone help I have a (2001) brava starting up I get a bit of smoke and can smell oil burning on a 45 minute run what is it I also have to top up over a pint of oil every month Is it anything to worry about. Thanks.

Have you had any work done to the car recently like a service Any stains or puddles on the floor under the car. Im just trying to rule out the obvious and cheapest methods first. I.e. The oil filter may not be screwed on tight then as the engine gets hot the oil starts to burn on the engine and give you that unpleasant smell through the ventilation system. Sump plug may not be screwed tight. Cracked

FIAT BRAVA 182 gear Judder oil and rev PROBLEM HELP

i have a fiat bravo 1.4 sx 1998 i noticed a bit of oil on the inside of a pipe where i have to replace with an air filter i wanted to put on i have cleaned this along with spark plugs being changed because they had oil on them. thought i would leave for a week before putting on the air filter to see if probs occur again sparks are fine but the pipe still has a bit of oil there again. somebody has recently

the oil is there because that pipe is part of the crankcase ventilation system. if it didnt have oil i would be far more concerned. the notchy gearchange into 1st and 2nd isnt unsual with a cold gearbox. try replacing the fluid (use castrol) and add some molylube. it can really make a big difference. slick50 doesnt work so avoid it. the 1500rpm cold idle is ok as long as it sits at 800-900 rpm once

FIAT BRAVA 182 HGTs do they drink oil

Hi Just got back the AA report on the HGT Im planning to buy. One of the things noted was that the oil level was really low even though the car had a full service 1000 miles ago - do HGTs tend to be thirsty on oil or is this indicative of a serious problem Apart from that though the report was pretty good needs new front disks coolant system needs flushing and it needs a new battery clamp

well normally the biggest problem is the people who serive it. they do use oil but aslong as its not chucking it out the exhaust in a bluey ting colour then it should run fine. if its been running for to long without oil the engine will be really tappety and sound quite ruff..) FIAT BRAVA 182 Oil leak help

Hi whilst I was checking the engine oil water etc Ive noticed that my brava has a leak which looks like its coming from what I think is the oil filter (white can looking thing underneath the car). I topped up my engine oil about 3 weeks ago and before then didnt notice a leak. Is it possible that its overspill (I used a litre) My other question is could it be leaking from the filter and how much is it going to cost me. Thanks in advance.

Well id try putting a new filter on as perhaps the old one wasnt on properly. Youll need to drain the system or youll get oil everywhere. So cost is &1638ish for filter (i cant remember) then about &16310 for oil from a good motorfactors. I cant remember the capacity and you didnt specify the car but an Audi A4 1.8T takes 3.9liters. So sounds like if you topped up 1liter youve been loosing a lot so

FIAT BRAVA 182 oil and water mix

FIAT BRAVA 182 Oil Pressure

Hi just got a 2001 1.6HLX Bravo I have noticed that the oil light comes on when the car idles when it has warmed up. The car has not really been used much in the last 6 months and has only done 45k. Do you think it just needs a good flush and oil change with some descent oil. When the car keeps moving and I presume cooler the problem does not occur. eg it happened when driving to work yesterday during rush hour but not in the afternoon when the traffic was a lot lighter. Thanks

OK done oil change and put some slick 50 in for good measure but light still comes on. Next I am going to flush the cooling system and refill with new antifreeze as the current stuff is brown. Again there is no noticable change to engine noise when the light comes on and it still only comes on when warm and at idle. The temp gauge reads just over half when this happens and if I put the heater on the

FIAT BRAVA 182 oil filler cap

Could also be air in the cooling system have you had any work done on the cooloing system recently e.g thermostat radiator e.t.c

FIAT BRAVA 182 Injection System

hello i have bought a fiat brava 1.6 sx problem is that i now have a light on the dash appearing and then the car cuts out and dont start. the car is tempermental i sold it to someone drove it 35 miles to exchange went home and received a call saying it had broken down on m1. this is after i spent 260 pound getting it fixed. i have new idle sensor new coil pack new crank sensor and shows no problems

it cuts out and then sometimes resarts straight away or i have to wait a few hours or untill the next day. i have noticed that i have oil on the wires to the ECU probably a cause of connection probs. i have also spoken to a guy who works at an alpha romeo garage he said that i should earth the ECU to another point as this sometimes can be the problem. but cheers for a possible solution and I will get my hands dirty after england win tonight

FIAT BRAVA 182 clutch and gearbox oil

Hey guys how can I check the oil level for my clutch and gearbox How can I add oil to them myself or do I need a special pump for it Thanxall.

the clutch fluid is fine if the brake fluid reservoir is full. i usually bleed hydraulic clutches whenever i do the brakes to make sure fresh fluid is able to enter the whole system. i do that whenever i change brakes. a small leak on the gearbox could be fixed by checking the torque of the bolts get a torque wrench on them and see if one is looser than it should be. another point since the clutch

FIAT BRAVA 182 Brava AC problem

Hi all. I am new to the forum and to fiat in general. A bit about me first and then I will get to business. I am an Englishman that recently moved to Brasil and across to the fiat brand. I have to be honest when I lived in the UK I was strictly a VAG man and I never gave fiat a chance. Now I have moved VAG cars here are somewhat different from Europe and apart from the obligatory VW Fusca (air cooled

but no light. The second question is regarding relays for the AC. I have an empty relay base in the box in front of the battery. The base has plenty of wires to it but I dont know what it should do if anything on my car. I have 3 relays there which I tested and work. At least one of them is related to the fan but I cant find anything to say what they all do. Can anyone help I attach pics from fiatboo

FIAT BRAVA 182 Brava - Injector problem

Hi guys. Just bought myself an S-reg brava 1.4i 12v. Drove around fine on the test drive seemed good took it on the motorway for the first time and when I began to accelerate hard it started spitting forth big clouds of white smoke from the exhaust but when I was just cruising along it seemed fine. It didnt really struggle to accelerate either when the smoke was coming out. When I had it around town

a while and just once it didnt pull away from 1st gear I was pressing the accelerator and nothing happened but then suddenly it jolted forward and seemed fine again. The only other thing was a red light that came on for a minute then went off. It kinda looked like a spark plug with some lines coming out of the top. I dont have a manual with it so I cant look up what it means and this is my first fiat

FIAT BRAVA 182 Good garage in Manchester

Hi I need to get my Bravo booked in for a full service somewhere. you can do it all yourself. if you really dont feel confident get a haynes manual. you dont need to completely change the brake fluid just top it up (if neccessary it may not need it). same for gearbox if you get the fiat sump plug key you can use that to remove the gearbox filler cap and then simply dip your finger in the hole to feel for the fluid if you cant feel it top it up (pour some gearbox

FIAT BRAVA 182 Engine Management Light - Advice needed

FIAT BRAVA 182 Might get a BravoBrava - Help

Looking at getting a Bravobrava mainly for motorway journeys Ive always liked the look of them and wanted something comfortable enough for motorways etc. Ive been looking at the 1.2s and the 1.6s mainly as I can afford to insure those. What would you lot (although I would imagine youre all slightly bias) say they are like to drive decent for motorways A comfy cruiser Anything I should specifically

Mainly based on better options being more available. It was known for camshafts being destroyed through oil starvation and not being very fuel efficient since its fuel intection system only used throttle position RPM temperature and Lambda sensors to work out fueling it didnt have MAF or MAP sensors. 1.2s and 1.6 are better engines plus theres lots of parts available both used and new since fiat

Thanks for info guys not going for 1.4 Ive read lots of faults and they seem to be only on the earlier models whereas Im looking at the 20002001 models. The 1.2 would be the most ideal for insurance costs (its got more power than my 2006 1.4 GP too although a tiny bit less torque). oil changes every year I can do myself along with air & oil filters so no problem there. The fact that the 1.6 has injector problems doesnt make me keep never had to replace any of the injection system before so not a job I could do myself expensive repair Currently looking at a pale green brava 1.2 with 129k miles. High but as youve all already said they should be good with millage.

FIAT BRAVA 182 Brava 1.4sx problem

Hi guys Recently got a 1996 brava 1.4sx. The fuel consumption is a miserable 23mpg and the engine feels a bit stodgy (and lumpy when engine cold) [(]. Have changed spark plugs air filter and Lambda sensor. Also used Wynns injector cleaner which improved it a bit. Car has 69k on the clock. Local fiat garage claims it might be the IE sensor [] (inlet manifold ) or the ECU unit at fault. Any ideas please [] What should the fuel consumption be around town []

Hi I dont know how much 35-36 mpg for a brava is as we use the metric system and Im a poor guy so I only have a Bravo 1.4 s 12V and no brava... D But fuel consumption depends heavily on the type of oil youre using of tire types and pressure of tyres AND of course of the degree of your drivers madness. Long-distance driving on country roads with synthetic oil standard wheels and goodyear crystal snow

FIAT BRAVA 182 Brava 1.6 overheating

Hello guys My brava 1.6 2001 started showing sings of overheating. Actually as I mostly drive very short distances I could not even see overheating but rather I saw water dripping below the car. FIAT BRAVA 182 Airlock in Coolant-How to get rid

I have a 2001 brava 1.2 80sx and it has the slooshing sound of water heard from behind the dash so i imagine an airlock in the system. I have noticed a bleed screw on the left hand side of the radiator (when facing car) and one on

FIAT BRAVA 182 Brava 80 16v engine behaviour

Few months ago i bought 80 16v brava (1999). Im curious about something with this 1.2 engine. It never stalls consumption is excellent it holds idle perfectly... On return it wasnt idling properly. Its hunting but the revs dont rise they fall away then return to normal in a cycle. This problem is now only intermittant at traffic lights etc. Also now during partial acceleration the engine

has mixed no oil in the expansion bottle and no emulsion under the filler cap. All the engine fluids are fine. thats like asking if there is a god. who knows Its only an engine management system Im an electronic engineer so they dont scare me just want to find out if anyone has had a similar problem power of the net and all that. FIAT BRAVA 182 Bravo Advice Needed

Title is a bit vague sorry about that First of all I should point out that I dont really have repair skills I am getting my car in the garage hopefully this weekend but I just want a bit of a heads up before I take it in... FIAT BRAVA 182 Bravo OverheatingLow cooland help

Hey there I currently have few issues with my 1.2 Bravo 80sx 2001. Originally the car used to start up with an intermittent missfire and then after about a minute or so everything would be fine. It also judders sometimes when driving at a steady speed. Another problem I have with it is it overheats. Normally the temperature gauge would stay just below half way and on cold days would drop down to about

to my DIY gasket but it isnt severe just a few drips. The missfire on start-up is probably from water leaking into cylinder 4 as that is what I read in a previous post with similar issues and the garage said it was cylinder 4 that was missfiring. Oh well Looks like I get a nice little project to work on for the next few daysweeks depending on when I can make time to fix it. Boy you got to love fiats
