FIAT 500 II Ignition switch faulty

Seven out of ten times after I turn the ignition switch to the intermediate position I am not able to turn to the engine start position. I always pause at the first position and pause until all the relevant warning lights have extinguished before starting the engine. I now have to return the switch to off and then go straight to starting the engine. I dont know if this will be a problem in the winter

Grim my petrol is the same. I assumed it was to prevent engaging the starter motor if the engine is running but the safety mechanism associated with that assumes that if the dash lights are on for a period of time then the engine is running For example if you turn the engine off but leave the keys in the barrel then you have to return the key to the initial position to start. Similarly if you have

I think it would have been a nice touch by fiat not to have included the starter on the

FIAT 500 II Ignition switch faulty

Hi all Im new to this forum as I have been driving my 2012 1.2 500 for only one month now. I was caught off guard the other day as I got distracted and turned the ignition key when the engine was already running. Isnt that supposed not to be possible

It not possible when engine already running position. If you wanna do that turn off engine and pull out key from ignition easily. Have you forget key inside car and door shut close

Ok let me rephrase that the normal function of the ignition on all my previous fiat was I could only get to the starter position (AV) once. If the engine wouldnt start I would have turn the key back to the off position to rearm it. On this one I seem to be able to get to the starter position twice in a row even if the engine is already running. Is it a fault or design (by the way its a 2013 model).

My understanding is that you are correct PP it should be impossible to rearm the starter without turning the key full off then on again. Thats what my 1.3MJ does. I can see why you suspect a fault and tend to agree with you. Having said that I have never actually tried to perform that operation on the move only when stationary. Anyone else like to weigh in

FIAT 500 II 500 1.2 engine light on and keeps running

Hi. Eml is on all the time and when I switch off the ignition the engine still ticks over and I can take the keys out to leave it running If i put the key back in and turn it upwards slightly engine stops. Then if I turn key downwards I can take the key out as normal. Everything else works as normal. Any idea what the problem is...Ive booked it in for fiat diagnosis but dont want them stitching me up. FIAT 500 II Side Lights

Sorry for such a basic question will find the answer on here quicker than thumbing through the manual. Found that the light stick gives you one option - ON or OFF How do the sidelights come on without the main headlights Also impressed that the lights go off automatically when you take the key out of ignition. Assume then you can leave the ON position all the time Thanks in advance

FIAT 500 II Just hit 1000 miles in my new 500

Hi people ....just hit the 1000 mile mark in my new 500 O my God its soooo much fun . Havent even had time to take or post pics yet...been busy... Funny thing on the 2nd day after delivery I saw 2 other 500s and have been seeing many in Edinburgh over the past couple of weeks now. FIAT 500 II Stereo always coming on

Just picked my 500 up yesterday. Whenever I get in the car and start it the stereo comes on. Even if Ive previously turned it off. Its not the end of the world but is pretty irritating. Any ideas Thanks.

by podsnap SOLVED Solution (as stated above) Press the voice key Say Stop B&M lady says Stopped and then it switches to the radio. switch the radio off with the onoff button as normal and it wont come back on when you next start the car. Thanks to grungdog23 and everyone here who helped. Its a minor thing I know but was irritating. The way you do it is a little convoluted if you ask me but hey fiat

FIAT 500 II Hill Holder Question

Got a slight issue with the hill holder. I park noise down on a steep drive both hand brake and ingear when stopped. My first attempt with hill holder almost ended with me rolling though my front door I started the car and put it in reverse grear foot on clutch and foot on brake. Released the brake expecting the car to stay where it was as I find the bite point but no it just rolls forward. What did

is first switched on (amber coloured). It also comes on (and stays on) to signify an ESP or Hill Holder fault. If the HH isnt operating a common fault is an incorrectly adjusted clutch pedal switch (it would also cause issues with the EFI system too- normally a lack of power). If so once confirmed on the Examiner diagnostic its a 5 min job to adjust. Attached Thumbnails   __________________ fiat

FIAT 500 II Parking Lights

Does anyone know if there are parking lights on the 500 With DRLs there are no side lights and the headlights go off with the ignition - cant see anything in the manual

Turn the ignition off with the light switch in the on position and before you take the keys out turn the light switch off then back on again. Spike

FIAT 500 II Retro fit Spotlamps

Heres a quick question thats been bugging me since I originally wanted foglamps when specing my 500 I then cancelled the foglights due to timescales for delivery. Is it possible that the part can be retro-fitted Are the plastic bits on the grill (where the foglights are) a straight swap with the lamp units I wonder if the wiring loom will be the same but unsure. Any ideas

FIAT 500 II wtf is that noise

Noticed something recently. Doors closed on car (doesnt happen with a door open) put the key in turn it to mar turn it off pull key out and listen very quietly and theres a fairly soft noise that comes from the dash. I will post a video when I get home nothing wrong with the car just wondered what the noise was. Thinking something to do with the immobiliser

I get a light buzz noise but have identified it to be the climate control stepper motors being indexed to zero. Not heard any other. Sure it isnt the fan motor drawing to a complete stop Theres no electronic process going on at the point you draw the key out of the ignition switch - is that when the noise occurs - when you take the key out (rather than just key-off)

FIAT 500 II Electric windows and when they dodont open

Its probably in the manual ..... but i found out by accident today that the windows work even when the key isnt in the ignition when youve parked up and turned engine off they seem to work for a good few minutes afterwards. I found this out as I let my son climb into the front of the car as we were early at the nursery this morning and took key out so though OK to let him press all the buttons ...

FIAT 500 II Interior lighting

Hi the wifes had her fiat 500 Lounge since February but weve only just noticed this as its darker on the evenings. Does the 500 not have an interior courtesy light that operates when the door are opened and closed Ive tried the light above the mirror in all three positions and nothing. Can get pitch black in our garage and seems a basic thing.

Thanks guys I am getting the message about the doors when the engine is on or key turned in the ignition. The message does not appear when the ingnition is not turned. Even with the engine on the courtesy light is still not being switched on when the doors open. Only manually illuminated by pushing the rocker to the left or right. I may remove the fitting again tomorrow to see if I notice anything obvious. Should there be only one bulb in the fitting

FIAT 500 II daytime headlights

Do you use the daytime running headlights on the 500 or do you turn them off Im not sure what is the best option to use when i pick up my car.

FIAT 500 II Auto Headlights

Hi about an hour ago I left my car outside my home and when I was about to leave again I got within rought 30 metres of my car and the headlights automatically came on without me even touching the key Does the 500 have a function that turns the lights on for you when you get near the car Was very surpised

FIAT 500 II I got the flashing mileage today

Started the car at work and the bloomin mileage started flashing at me turned the phone off and it stopped flashing. So guessing my Blue thingy has gone belly up a bit. Think I wont bother with that any more... in 1200 miles Ive had a flat battery for no reason 3rd gear that sometimes grates a little and now this I hope the wee thing will last the 3 or 4 years I intend to keep him

Hi Pip A quick question re. flashing mileage I had it flashing several times and had the proxy alingment done at the dealers but it flashed twice since. I was told the flashing can happen if you turn on the ignition too quickly (before the system has time to prime itself) - is that might be the case I was told to turn the key to MAR and wait for lights to go off on dash and THEN switch on the engine. Otherwise the CAN gets confused and flashes the mileage in response. Thanks in advance

FIAT 500 II Mileage on dashboard flashing

Hi all I have recently purchased a fiat 500 1.2 pop from a local dealer. All was well until I have recently noticed that the mileage starts flashing mid drive or when I turn it on but it doesnt happen all the time. I turn it off and back on again and it stops. Does anyone know what this means Is it something to worry about Thanks

FIAT 500 II little niggles

dont post much as I am normally driving my 500 Just thought I would let everyone know what little things have been fixed on the 500 1st was the cabin fan it made a funny ticking noise so it had to have a whole new motor 2nd the washerjet has gone missing not the bit that sticks up but the internal spray I did pressure wash it but never went close. Its being fixed soon by fiat. I will ask them about

i have a little bit of a problem with my ignition switch. Most of the times it doesnt turn to AVV.It turns to MAR but it refuses to go further.I just have to turn the key back to stop and try again in order to fire up the car. Any thoughts

Hi I have been to a local garage to get their opinion. 1. To solve the headlights issue they told me to go to a fiat dealer to get a new Body Control Module and suggested the cost to be over 500 GBP after fitting and coding. But they could not be sure it would solve the problem. 1. a) the local garage also charged me for rewiring my fog and reverse lights the wrong way (selecting reverse gear and the

FIAT CINQUECENTO 170 at a loss now

posted a few week ago about a drain on my battery and im still at a loss ive tried the suggested from before and yesterday i double checked all the lights were off etc removed the stereo put a fully charged battery on (was around 3pm when i did this). now ive just been out to try start and got nothing no central locking no lights on the dash when the key turned and nothing again at all from the engine.

Hi You need a multi meter set to ampscurrent whatever... Remove one battery terminal and bridge the battery connector and battery post with the multimeter with the ignition keys in your pocket and everying switched off. The current should be 10 milliamps about donno about the fiat ECU dark current. If it is large like 100ma then that will flatten your battery over several days. 500 ma 48 hours 1 amp

FIAT PUNTO I 176C 176L Official performance figures for 75SX mk1

Hi Punto land Ive got the option of buying a slightly damaged 1995 Punto 75SX with 77K on the clock. But I cant find any information or road tests well not on the web anyway. Any advice on what to look for with regards to this model Any known faults What should I look for other than the obvious The car I am looking at has a damaged strut (inner wings are fine) damaged wheel blowing exhaust oil leak

FIAT PANDA Hidden features

Its not normal for me to find these as I often read the manual front to back and know exactly what a car does and doesnt do. But driving along with the wipers on the other day in the rain and when the car stopped the wippers automatically went to intermitant mode. When moving off again they then re-selected constant. Neat I though. Was on dads 2009 Eleganza. I dont think sisters 2004 Active does this and nore does my Stilo Jon.
