Hello & welcome to the forum . Sorry to hear about your little problem. Unfortunately youre not the first & you wont be the last. It is indeed a relatively common problem and if it happens
the failure wouldnt be covered under warranty I could understand if the part had been abused or worn out but if the handle broke inside the door there is nothing the user could have done to abuse it and if it has worn that implies sub-standard qualification ie poor design. If the dealer has stated that its a well known problem that is tantamount to admitting a widespread design flaw to me and fiat

Now my 500 is 4 years old and the drivers side door handle came off in my hand I got in touch with fiat UK and they have to get the opinion of my local dealer I will be surprised
See my reply under the Re Drivers side door handle HANGING OFF thread which I posted this evening
I bought a 2012 Punto on the back of good service from Motor Services of Chepstow who sold my wife her 60 plate 500 in June. The chrome was bubbling on the passenger door handle of the 500 and they replaced it under warranty in about 45 minutes flat

Below is a link that will explain how to remove the door card. httpwww.fiatforum.com500-guides...ion-doors.html killahboo thanked for this post

I said to him The car is just outside your doorcan you not come and just confirm that the handles are coming off He didnt have timeWords fail me When I arrived home I tried to ring fiat.

The plastic bit failed on me once however that was due to an attampted break in... I couldnt even get the 147 handles to fit in properly so the bottom juts out aswell

two the front mounting bolt i was going to put the one i took apart into my car as a test but ran out of time there not actually that expensive new under 30 quid each and you would need a right hand drive drivers side and a left hand drive drivers side to retain both your locks the only thing i cant be sure on till i try is the shape that the but end locks into on the door skin but i cant see fiat

I have just had the same experience my drivers door handle has just broken at the front leading end.
My door handle came off in my hand my warranty ran out a fortnight beforehand. i tried glueing it . Im tiny and I know I dont have the strength to have broken it. Would appreciate useful advice.
When its been raining the drivers door handle fails to open the door on the 1st pull on mine somtimes but it hasnt broken off yet.
By the look of fiats configurator looks like anyone would be LUCKY to have just the door handle hanging off Or are these just 2010 modifications Not sure about them really.....
Not a common problem Im having my doubts. It seems to happen to fiat 500s when they reach the three year mark. Mines a 2008 plate and this morning the drivers door handle came away at the end closest to the bonnet. Im only a little thing so it wasnt as if the handle had been pulled aggressively I bought the car from the main fiat dealership and it has the 1 year warranty. Do you guys think it will

Thatll be me then. Yes I sorted out the same problem recently. The front hinge had seized and snapped. Interestingly I checked my own 500 out and when I opened the door the handle wasnt returning all the way on that too. I always have an aerosol can of white grease handy for door locks and hinges. I put the tube off a WD40 can on it fiddled it into the recess behind the handle and gave it a good lathering.

When it arrived I found that the hinge is attached by a screw to the handle. Does anyone know if you can buy just the hinge Pictures on my blog if you cant visualise what Im talking about. I would talk to a stealer or one of the few people on ebay who are wrecking 500s. That said some may want to sell the door complete.
Not really a guide but pop the round surround off the inside door handle and slide it off the handle. Pop the panel off near the door handle. Undo all the screws you see. From memory it was 4 of them. Then get something nylon and non damaging under the lower rear edge of the door and start working the pop clip things loose around the door. Lift the panel up and itll come loose. Inside theres a couple
My passenger side door handle was feeling heavy so i got it oiled and now it is fine. Mind you my driver side one is fine i think its becuase i am calmer opening the door than my passengers I always tell them to be careful as the 500 has very light doors the doors barely need a touch to close them And no breaking the handles trying to force the door open either my brother has dented my car because of that
Hi Julian there has been a thread in the 500 section about just this. httpwww.fiatforum.com500220731-...nging-off.html Also there are details re removing the door cards in the link below. httpwww.fiatforum.com500-guides...ion-doors.html
