JEEP WRANGLER [Writeup] Dodge Durango Steering Box

Sup guys I&8217ve wanted to do a write up of some kind for a while just never had anything major done that I thought would be worth of a write up. Anyways...This write up will talk about the process of removing your stock YJ steering box and replacing it with a dodge durango Steering box. Now IAM aware there a couple out there right now however I personally feel it&8217s always good to have more than

JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE dodge durango steering box upgrade

i cracked my steering box last weekend at logandale and it moves around horribly now. i plan on plating the frame and getting a durango steering box along with hydro assist. they say that it is a heavier duty box and it has 4 mounting holes vice the 3 of a stock grand. but does it have the same spline count pitman arm edit also if i buy a remaned one from autozone or whatever will they take my grand one as a core or will they try and give me a hassle

After research on many sites I have repeatedly found that a 99 V8 dodge durango steering gear box will directly swap in. There should be no spline difference issues. Also a 1980 Wagoneer will fit and is a beefier box but there seems to be dissent about the usefulness of this it is time that wears down the gear boxes so getting an older gear box may not improve any play experienced previously. I still

though Straighten the steering before removing the old box . Once removed take the new box and center the steering on it . This can be done by rotating the steering shaft input counting the revolutions and going to center rotating it back by 12 the revolutions . Now when you bolt it up everything should fall into place . Wheel alignment I see no alterations from the previous alignment durango

Its on and the brace works just as well with the durango box as with my stocker. Some tips You should have a solid pitman arm puller not just a regular puller with movable jaws KORs brace needs to be removed to get the box out but I was able to leave the sway bar on It helps to have a pipe (about 1 14 dia.) lying around to get the torque you need with ease Leave your tires on the ground straight and

JEEP WRANGLER Dodge Durango snow plow steering gear question..

It looks like the snow plow model is cheaper than the regular steering gear. I was told the snow plow one has a tighter steering radius are there other benefits to it Or should I get the regular gear Also If I do buy the snow plow steering gear is there addition things to hook up to it or is it the same as the other durango steering gearjeep gear link to steering gear --- httpwww.jeepforum.comforumattac...1&d1320081397

I dont know what would make one stronger than the other. The V8 box has a larger diameter piston than the standard TJ box which gives it more power to turn the wheels. This helps with bigger tires. The durango frame is not able to handle anything larger than this so I doubt that there is much difference other than maybe a change to the internal stops. I have been using the durango box on mine that

Why bother with having to collect on the life time warranty...I would rather pay more money to just do it once and be done with it. Look into PSC Steering Gears . I run the Extreme Gear with a cooler...is it a little excessive for my 33s Yea but Im ready for upgrades whenever. They have a few different options for steering gears. If youre already going to spend 300 on a new durango gear (because buying

JEEP WRANGLER Is a Dodge Dakota steering box the same as the Durango

I have the opportunity to get a 98-99 dodge Dakota steering box as a replacement for my leaky TJ Steering box. Will it work I swear I have seen somewhere that it was the same but I cant find it. Thanks

Quick check on AdvanceAutoParts.com indicates the same parts for durango and Dakota. Wrangler on the other hand is a different part number.

Looking at the size differences between the durango and the Wrangler I would expect different part numbers. Now the question I ponder over is this Should I buy a new one or from a Junker Sure the junker could be one third the price but I may end up having to replace it much sooner than if it was new. What if the seals are dried out Is the price difference really worth it We are talking about a part

suggested it as they said they could use the excuse that they look the same and unless they were right next to each other you wouldnt see it. The price I paid was 340 plus 180 core (refunded) BTW Price was in Canadian Dollars. I dont think it was really very wrong to do that. You got what the core was worth to them. otherwise the factory would come out WAAAY better and that would suck.

JEEP WRANGLER ZJ Tie Rod Durango Steering box other junkyard upgradesmods

I was wondering if there was a list somewhere of what parts from other cars would fit right into the TJ. If there is no list here is the place to start. I want to know what could fit into what year TJs from what year vehicles. Like 1995-1998 V8 Grand Chereokee Tie-Rod would work in a TJ. dodge durango Steering Box would work in a 1997-200203 TJ I think. I heard some alternators are a direct bolt in that offer higher power. If you know what part fits where please list.

JEEP WRANGLER I YJ Dodge durango steering box in a YJ

OK heres my first attempt at a write-up. Before I begin I have to give a big to Brandon Yj whom through blood sweat and thrown wrenches helped me accomplish this swap. By the way.... apparently he cant dodge a dodgeball either. A little background on my jeep I have a 91 with 4.0tf999231 pushing 151000 miles. 35x12.5 mickey Ts claws 4.56 in the front 30 (Wlockrite) and rear 8.8(with Det Lkr). When I

have to remove the far top bolt in order to get a proper seat on the frame bolt. Then carefully remove the bolts from the top portion on the frame. I suggest one person hole the box and the other unbolt. Carefully slide the steering column shaft off the box and youre free. Here is the fruit of our labors Notice the difference between the two boxes. Now one important fact to point out is that the durango

This is an amazing convenience upgrade. There are other steering upgrades available but this one is really smooth. You get slightly more power from the larger box and a faster ratio for those buckn wild times offroad.

Yes I was referring to the drag link... duh. That really sucks about messing up the joint to your pitman arm. Ive been contomplating a 1 ton steering upgrade. Ill just ad it to my wish list with the other million things.

NISSAN add dodge durango V8 to the kill list

this guy driving a brand new durango was toying with me this evening. speeding up and slowing down beside me. finally we got to a stop light with open road in front of us. he rolled down the window and said he wanted to run his new durango. i asked if i had the hemi. he said no just the standard v8. so i thought it would be a pretty fair race then. he pulled out about half a car length in front of

HONDA FIT Any other steering boxes fit besides Durango

Being on a short budget i rely on the salvage yard for alot of my upgrades. After a lot of walking today i found zero durangos in our yard (about 70 explorers though for this winters project ) I am picking up a new PS pump tommorow but i cant afford the gear box. And of course mine is now leaking like a sieve. Aside from grabbing another jeep box at the yard does anyone know of anything that will bolt in like the durango box. Thanks for any help guys.

Negative the dodge selection is very limited for some reason. Theres fords and cherokees all over the place though. And a big area of chevys too.

JEEP WRANGLER II TJ Durango 160A Alt Swap for 2002 TJ

I know that certain years of TJs can only play with certain models I think the ranges 97-02 use a certain year durango alt without an internal volt regulator and 03-06 use a different model with a built in vreg. Im not 100% and it seems like my 02 floats between this range and I cant find any specific information for this exact year. It is always someone with a pre99 or an 04-06 posting about them. Id like to grab a 160amp anyone know the correct years for my 02

I also took a Denso PN off the actual alternator that came in and its 421000-0040. If you do a few google searches you can see these all relate. And from the information on this website httpwww.motorcityreman.comnial.html it can be concluded that the following donor vehicles can be used Chrysler OE 5170748AA 56029914AA Alternator - Denso ERIF 160 Amp12 Volt CW 6-Groove Pulley Used On (2004) dodge

JEEP CHEROKEE Durango Gear Box ZJ Steering Bar Swap Afterthoughts

JEEP WRANGLER II TJ Durango 160 amp alternator to 06 TJ swap

GUYS NEED HELP FAST I am looking at a 06 durango 3.7 L with a 160 amp alternator. I hear its direct bolt maybe swap the pully. Need some info on this. whether it works or not and if its the right specs. THanks

Ya Id like to know to. Bump I was actually just researching this same topic last week. From what I gathered the alternator the OP is talking about will not fit earlier model TJs. It looks like the mounting bolt pattern changed. If you have a 99 TJ 4.0L and want a 160amp alternator . (cross check your part numbers to see if this will work for other year TJs) Look for an alternator from a 2002 dodge

FORD F150 Durango Problems

allrighty fellas I know we are talking dodge here but my 68 year old dad is having some problems. When we stops accelerating the transmission wont shift into OD there fore leaving him about 600 RPMs higher than normal. Just started happening out of the blue. 99 dodge durango about 90K on it with the 5.7L sorry but Im not sure what kind of tranny but I bet its the strongest tranny dodge could put in

a higher-mileage Ford automatic Id shy away from doing a power flush on the tranny...too many seals to get blown out and then you are looking at rebuild time. I believe the 5.9s in the durangoDakota and light-duty half tons trucks used the 46RE tranny (basically an electronic controlled version of the A518 which in turn is based on the old A727 3-spd automatic). Its not the strongest tranny that dodge

JEEP CHEROKEE XJ V8 swap JeepDodge 4.7L

Saw this Gen 5 Viper Dodge dealer ad today...

New 2013 SRT Viper GTS 5 in stock. Starting at 122 590. Save 12000. This is the first dealer advertisement that Ive seen for the new Viper. With 5 in stock for such a low production quantity car it doesnt seem like there is very much demand...

not to me of course. But thats BS because the Viper is excluded from that employee discount. In those cases they were hooks to get you in the door as Policy said. I am starting to see a few discounted Vipers this does not concern me. For years Ive seen the Corvette deeply discounted all over the place 10K to 20K. Last night I bought a Ford Flex for 10K under a sticker price of 50K. I bought my dodge

FORD F150 Durango

Hello Im trading my F-150 Harley for a Black durango....psyche I am getting a durango though. I was wondering if you guys knew about any aftermarket stuff for the durango thats out there Or any forums like this where they discuss doing up their durangos Thanks

Look if you want to know about a dodge site go run a search on google.com or any other fine web search engines. Dont expect guys on a Ford website to giftwrap a detailed report on all possible dodge mods andor websites. We most likely do not know and do not care. And do grow up a little.
