BMW Z3 E36 Z4 Do I Have a Problem Oil Level Sensor

07 3.0Si with 15000 miles on the clock with the electronic oil level sensor no apparent oil consumption problems. Had a dealer oil change for annual low mileage service about 3 months and 2000 miles ago. As a habit I always check oil level each time I use the car. I realize that with someone else performing the oil change the actual oil level (a little overexacta little under) is unknown due to the

At the moment the only option I can think of is to drain the oil and measure what comes out and estimate the oil volume in the filter. Or do a complete oil change on my own filter and all and see where the sensor reads. My understanding is if I take it in to the dealer they will empty the oil measure and then put the old oil back in with any other muck that comes out of the oil collector.

The following is right out of the owners manual. There is no way to check increments less than 1 quart. It either tells you OK or that it has too much oil or not enough by 1 quart or more. It will never tell you that it is a fraction of a quart low. RTFM Reference Mobility Driving tips Controls At a glance 93 Add engine oil at the earliest opportunity e.g. when you stop to refuel. full (but not overfilled). Right after the change when it only had 6 quarts it initially said it was full which made me think I didnt get all the oil drained out of the engine properly but after it was driven and allowed to re-measure it made more sense that with only 6 quarts it was around the minimum. httpwww.bimmerfest.comforumssho...d.phpt180542 I just downloaded the manual that is on the bmwusa.com

BMW Z3 E36 [Z4] Yellow oil light on after shutting off the car

As the topic states lately when I turn the car off the yellow oil symbol on the cluster will come on. At risk of exposing myself to a little rtfm chiding (sorry i dont have the manual) what does this mean and the fact that it only comes on after shutting off the car Thanks.

Car thinks it needs more engine oil added. You have an 05 Z4 so you should check the dipstick first. Or the oil level sensor has failed. Which iswas common on many M54 engines and some S54 too.

BMW Z3 E36 Z4 First Oil Change Interval

My 2008 Z4 now has 4500 miles on it. The oil change countdown says 11500. Does this car really have a 16000 mile oil change interval I drive very aggressively and I would think that would stress the oil further. I am accustomed to 3333 change intervals and was wondering when you did your first oil service. Thanks.

My first change was an annual one around 10k...the service indicator went to about 19k for its first scheduled change. Synthetics can go a long way as long as youre using a good filter....worse comes to worse change your filter midway between the serviceannual interval and you should be fine. Also Id also definitely suggest using the bmw approved oils as others have stated. FYI the service indicator

The first time I upgraded the MAF on the Ford Taurus SHO I got an 80mm MAF with a K&N cone filter. That filter required oil after each cleaning. BMW Z3 E36 does anybody know a good mile marker to sell a 2003 Z4

I have a 2003 bmw Z4 3.0i. It has a little under 80k on it...I am trying to decide on what would be a good mileage marker to sell the car and upgrade to a newer Z4 Roadster so i dont get stuck biting the bullet on some high repairs that pass monthly payments on a newer model..say an 06 with a 250 payments (assuming alot is put down and that is over a period of 3 years for payment for comparison purposes)..I

I will probably end up doing that epbrown. Thanks. I just know the car was maintained to the absolute minimum. It literally went 15000 miles between oil changes with the change oil light on for some of that period. That is how cheap the lady who owned the car before me was. She rode the engine and brakes pretty hard. She even answered some of my preventative maintenance related questions with the answer of no it wouldnt be my car long enough for that to break. why would i do that Im replacing all 4 brakes very soon. Rear Brake Wear sensor went off. All 4 are low. Anyone tried Ceramic pads I got some dirt cheap temporary pads to put in the rear since the fronts still have a little life...I will be looking for a high quality pad in the next couple months. I replaced the starter 3000 miles ago. Yesterday i went out to start the car and My rpms were jumping like crazy between .5rpms and 1.75rpms. It jumped around for about 5 seconds and then shut off. I restarted it and everything went okay after that. I hope that is not the sign of another repair coming down the road I still need to take care of the airbag light that went off so i can get my registration renewed Im down here in aggieland with an official german license plate that says Soo NERS on it. Its only a matter of time til i get pulled over....haha On a lighter note I saw 5 Z4s on my trip between Oklahoma City and Houston

BMW Z3 E36 Lack of oil dip stick

I just heard that the 3.0 si does not have an oil dip stick. How long has this been the case with the 3.0 For those that have this engine doesnt this drive you nuts I would not trust an oil sensor to tell me what my oil level is. BMW Z3 E36 Looking for Air Intake for Z4 M Roadster

Hi guys I am looking to get a cold air intake for my 2007 M Roadster since I believe it is the only thing missing from otherwise an ultimate driving machine. AFE Filters are quite pricey. I could not find a KN&N that fits the M Roadster. Any suggestions recommendations Thanks in advance

of the BMC air filter is that its an oiled filter. This is OK when you first buy it because its perfectly oiled at that time. Problems however may arise when its time for you to clean the filter and reoil it. I think its quite common for people to apply too much oil and this excess oil can get sucked onto the MAF sensor and mess up the air flow readings sent to the computer. On the other hand bmw

BMW Z3 E36 Will K & N air filter damge Z3 Map sensor

I am wondering if anyone has heard whether the pre-oiled K & N air filter has negative effects on the Mass Airflow sensor in a Z3. I seem to find equal comments on either side of the argument for or against doing this. Saw the thread in fogging the intake but not sure about that.

I opted for a dry filter instead of the oiled one for my Z4. I got put off by the posts I saw about the oil fouling the sensor and you had to clean it which worried me. I also saw posts not to add to your confusion about CELs coming on when the filterintake was changed without remapping. I dont know how correct that is but wasnt prepared to find out so I bought the CAI and filter from Bav Auto which I had no problems with. Just my 2 cents worth Im no expert.

BMW SERIES 3 E90 E91 E92 E93 Is there a hard mileage limit on the first free oil change

Good day all. Ive had my car for just over 5 months and Im up to 13600 miles. Unfortunately the CBS sensor is saying I wont need my first oil change for another 7000 miles (20000 - 21000 miles total). You always hear the 15000 miles or 1 year comment for the first oil change. However is the 15000 documented anywhere FWIW Ive done 2 oil changes already (3000 miles and 9500 miles) so Im not grossly worried.

BMW Z3 E36 [Z4] Air filter replacement

Will a K & N air filter work in my Z4 Its considered an oil element which uses a special oil type spray. I run these for years and found better mileage and performance. the dealer thought this might affect one of the intake senors.

They work just fine when you clean and oil the filter dont over oil the filter or you could have issues with the O2 sensor. There is one filter for the 03-05 and one for the 06-08 two different shapes. I used one in my 04 and have one in my 06 now. Both cars had the steptronic and I will continue to use them. I have had no issues with them in over 5 years. Keep the OEM filter in a bag so you can use it while cleaning the K&N.

oil type k&N filters can affect the MAF (Mass airflow sensor). Its a very delicate sensor in the intake just after the air filter. oil or other contaminates can affect its performance and cause it to read incorrectly. Just be careful to clean it (with MAF cleaner) and do not over oil the filter.
