BMW Z3 E36 BMW Z4 2006 3.0i Water Pump Failure Advice NEEDED 5 yrs old 40k miles driven daily

Hey guys I need some advice. I have a bmw Z4 2006 3.0i and it has 40k miles. I was driving it and the car started to lose power randomly for a split second and then return to normal. The warning lights would flash for a second and then once power came back it would return to normal. This would only happen randomly after about 15 minutes of driving. I took it into the dealership right away and they

Ticking noise You need to identify your engine type. As per Real OEM if your car was built in 2005 you could have either the M54 or the N52 engine. The N52 had a hydraulic lifter issue quasi common to the Z4Si. It made ticking sounds as you describe. It was a lot more reproducible and loud to the point of hearing it while driving. It was more prevalent in the winter months and in some cases bmw replaced

Do you have anyway to verify what the Dealer is saying Would you be willing to buy a code reader or go to Autozone and have your codes read. Off the top of my head I would guess the car is overheating because the lack of a water pump (A very serious issue) That causes the fan sensor to read the car is not cooling down so the fan must not be working. It may also make your oil sensor read funny since

BMW Z3 E36 Z4 Coupe.. went in for 1yr oil and came out with problems

Hi I took my 2006 Z4 Coupe in to the San Diego bmw earlier this week for an oil change and to check on a weird high pitch whine that occurs when the car is up to temp. The dealer replaced the fuel pump which apparently was making noise. When I picked up the car the porter drove the front end of the car into the high curb. They had to sand and repaint the front air dam. Next day I went to pick it up

Whats confusing is how they replaced the stripped screws. I would have someone that knows the car check it out.

If you live in San Marcos why dont you take it to Brecht bmw in Escondido Both Brecht and Encinitas have treated me and my cars better than bmw of SD. I took the car into Encinitas bmw and they were very professional and they fixed the problem. Apparently the other dealers service didnt tighten down one of the mounting bolts when they put the car back together after replacing the fuel pump.

BMW Z3 E36 Z4 Possibly bringing a car from California to Seattle - water pump thoughts

Ive been looking at Z4s. While I am not ready to buy (that will come in the late springearly summer) Im actively reviewing the selection of cars out there and have been doing research on them. Ive come to the conclusion that the Seattle & Portland areas have a pretty unfavorable selection of used Z4s. Maybe its due to the climate (3 to 4 nice months in the summer rainclouds the rest of the year). So

I have an 0404 build 3.0 z4 in SoCal and have 149K on the dial. I have not replaced the water pump as yet. I have had the car to HC 07 and 08 ( 5K mile road trips) with the car over 100K. BMW Z3 E36 Convertible top pump oil.....

Ok so I searched and searched but I cant find what oil or fluid to use in the Hydraulic system for the convertible top.... 99 Z3M.... Thanks Crappy ) (Just outside of Nashville)

Use hydraulic oil from kit PN 54 34 8 410 308. From Page 31 httpwww.bmwicom.netwp-contentup...onvertible.pdf Actually that kit does not list any oil. Or from here From Monolith The original PN for the Z3 oil is 54348410308. It is a kit that includes some oil and a set of screws. The actual oil inside is Aral Vitamol ZHM (amber color). If you want it cheaper you can buy the oil separately - it is the

BMW Z3 E36 Z4 Humming noise... is it the fuel pump

When I turn my key to pos. 2 (engine not running) I hear a loud hum for a few seconds and then it goes off until I start the car and then it is constant. I can even feel a vibration in the body. It almost has to be fuel pump related but the car runs great only has 20K miles and never has done this before in the few weeks I have owned it. (04 out of warranty). BMW Z3 E36 engine wont start for my Z4

I have a 2003 bmw Z4 2.5i. I was driving it this morning around parked and started couple of times like normal without any problem. then I was pulling it into my garage to do a vaccum. after vaccum it wont start. you can hear the clicking and eheheh sound that engine tries to start but wont. one time the engine started for like 1 second and died out right after. BMW Z3 E36 Z4 Red Line lubricants

I am planning to replace the gearbox oil with Red Line MTL how much do I need Also what is the correct oil to get for the diff and how much I have read numerous articles in Bimmer and Roundel supporting Red Line products and the article in the latest Roundel on the the 323Ci whose shifting was transformed by replacing fluids with Red Line and installing a short shift kit has sealed the deal. Thanks

I think you will need two quarts each for the gearbox and the differential. 75w90 is what the differential should use and I think the MTL is what is used in the gearbox. On my other bmws I usually change the gearbox oil with a long flexible tube that I run down though the engine compartment and into the fill hole. However Ive looked at the gearbox and it doesnt look like there is enough room in the

BMW Z3 E36 Z4 75000 miles

OK old schoolers what would you do (or have done) to your Z4s at the 75000 mile mark I bought the car last July with just over 72000 miles on it and a recent independent dealer service. I just went over 75000 and have not done anything to her except the inordinate amount of washing and waxing.

and possibly all 4 rotors. Other than that do you normal oiloil Filter changes plus the cabin filter spark plugs and battery if its over 3 or 4 years old. I would bleed the lines since the fluid is old and check the belts also. If you have to take the rotor and caliper off to do rotors and pads you might as well pack some grease in the wheel bearings as well. My mechanic who has been working on bmws

The hardest part on both the Transmission and the Differential is the fluid break in period. Just keep that in mind for the future. Power Steering is a very small concern. Its nearly all electronics on this car. After years of racing cars i have found that cars dont break any more often when you baby a car or if you dog it after a fluid change. Of course it doesnt hurt to heed the advise of bmw.

I noticed tonight that my 2 month old 2K mi 08Z4si is making a ticking noise from the engine--when I rev the engine the ticking speeds up. I have a service appt tuesday for unrelated stuff--bluetooth prob & air conditioning not being cold. Any ideas whats causing it and is my car safe to drive no warning lights on. I will RTFM for the oil check procedure should have thought to do that anyway but figured there was some secret to it. thanks You probably saw the S54 bulletin on the vanos thing. There is one for your engine N52 too. Something about the lifters not getting pumped up if I remember right. There is also a bulletin which is not here that the electronic oil measure reads too high or too low. I know it was for the 3 series but cant remember if it was for the Z4 too.

BMW Z3 E36 Odd engine sound from 2003 Z4 3.0

Hey folks any help would be appreciated. Ive talked to several mechanics and no one has firm ID on what the problem is. The M54 3.0 engine on my 2003 Z4 is making an odd sound when its hot. It does not make the sound when the engine is cold and takes about 15-20min to get warm enough for the sound to start up. My car has 101k miles. Ive found a Youtube video from someone else with the same problem.

I find it odd that you have low oil pressure with only 100K miles on the engine. The source of the sound appears to be the low oil pressure when the engine has reached operating temperature. Before going too far try 10-30 weight oil (I assume you use 5-30) and see if that helps. Could be your oil pump. It takes a good bit of abuse to damage mainrod bearings on these motors to cause permanent low oil pressure but its possible. Have you owned the car since new Do you about its maintenance history

Ive bought the car CPO from a bmw dealer when it only had 5k miles. Im running the standard 5W-30 bmw synthetic. Its had zero problems with the engine since Ive had it. Just replaced the CCV DISA spark plugs and valve gasket. Engine runs great but still makes that sound. I few people have suggested running a slightly thicker oil to see if that helps. Was thinking about putting in an Amsoil 5W-40 since

I asked them to re-torque those bolts regardless as well as re-torque the engine mount bolts. Finally I

BMW Z3 E36 How reliable is your Z4

I just stumbled across a consumer website where people were complaining about how unreliable their bmws are. My 2006 Z4 3.0osi has a loud clicking (maybe lifters) at startup. The noise continues until at least 15 minutes of driving. I just had my one year service (oil change) etc. .. and the noise is louder Anyone have that problem

Definitely not normal since the lifters are hydrolic and are not manually adjustable. You should have someone check your oil pressure and make sure the oil pump is working properly. Fifteen minutes is an aweful long time to have the valvetrain starve for oil. I would get I fixed as soon as possible because the sound implies that oil is not getting to the top of the head and the valvetrain is running dry.
