Check the oil pan - if it has a dent in it the oil pick-up tube may have been damaged.

I checked the oil. The dipstick is interesting with notches in it. It was covered in oil to the 2nd notch assuming all is well as far as oil level. Nothing looks like its leaking. The air dam show sighs of abuse and a chunk was missing. Any thoughts I think its just a malfunction of the sensor. Theres an oil level sensor on the bottom of the oil pan. See this diagram part 14 httpwww.realoem.combmwshowparts...87&hg11&fg10 It or the associated wiring may have been damaged.

BMW Z3 E36 Z4 First Oil Change Interval

My 2008 Z4 now has 4500 miles on it. The oil change countdown says 11500. Does this car really have a 16000 mile oil change interval I drive very aggressively and I would think that would stress the oil further. I am accustomed to 3333 change intervals and was wondering when you did your first oil service. Thanks.

i could see maby 7000 maxxxxxx if you drive your car easy everywhere all the time. but really 12ooo miles. and the evidence of more frequent oil changes saving your motor is the lack of carbon and metal in your oil pan im sure 3ooo is a little often but it costs me 50 dollars to change my oil with castrol syntec.

have been using K&N or some other wired mesh oiled panel filter for at least 5 different car ..MBZ toyota bmw Audi etc. (from regular K&N to TRD panel filter for my MR-S to now the BMC panel filter for the Z4M) i must say that the K&N or similar filter works well when is CLEAN (aka the first 8-10k miles or so) and it made a noticable diff on the turbo car (the Audi TT) but you have to keep washing

BMW Z3 E36 Upset Z4 Owner

I bought my Z4 about 2 months ago and overall I enjoyed it immensely. However I cant help but think that the quality of bmw has been taking a dive. I have noticed that there is a serious paintbody panel defect that should have been found during inspection before the vehicle was shipped out. Also I am getting the service engine oil light sporadically. Ill be taking the car back to the dealer for a checkup

BMW Z3 E36 Z4 Exhaust fumes

I have a 2006 Z4 and am getting exhaust fumes coming out of the driver side in the space between the hood and the windshielf wiper. The smell also permiates the interior of the car it is only present after driving on freeways or high speeds and quickly dissipates after the engine is turned. Whatever the fumes are they are making me and my passengers ill after driving. bmw service cant locate the problem.

Thank you for your suggestion. I am going to check it out. I got the car back today and was told that there was oil found on the panels where the coils where at The dealer wanted to know if I ever added oil to the car... my answer was no The only time oil was added to the vehicle was during scheduled maint by the dealer and most recently when the dealer replaced the oil pan of the car. Thats when the fumes started. They told me they removed the oil and that should take care of the fumes I am going to drive the car for a few days if the toxic smell persists. i am thinking about contacting bmw North America and get a second opinion.

BMW Z3 E36 Thinking of buying 04 Z4 3.0

Hi everyone. Im thinking of getting a used 2004 Z4 3.0 with 14k miles for 26500. Its on a Volvo lot and I was wondering what you guys think of purchasing from a non-bmw dealership. Is it better to get a CPO from bmw I dont think I can extend the orig warranty to 6100k so should I be worried about future problems The car looks awesome and drives as good as it looks. Only thing holding me back is the warranty issues (ends in april 08). Thanks for all the help guys.

I bought a 03 from a used car dealer as-is--It had less than a year on the factory warranty--I went to the bmw dealer and got the extended CPO added for 1200--3 years and 40k miles added to factory warranty. I took it to the bmw dealer after I bought it--The clown nose was missing from the mirror and the oil-change door was missing from the belly pan-the dealer replaced the entire mirror and installed

BMW Z3 E36 Superfast oil change possible

Because the Z4 comes with the sport package the suspension is extremely low and it is so annoying to even do an oil change. When I drive it up the ramp it just pushes the ramp aside so annoying Let me know if anyone ever try this Im thinking of replacing that oil plan bolt with a HOSE that runs to the side of the car. Maybe hot water sink hose Hose will run to the side of the car then have a valve

I called the dealer today and scheduled my next service for Thursday - the indicatator gave me 200 miles left as of this morning. That will put me at 43000. BMW Z3 E36 Z4 two gauge setup

Waiting for the LeatherZ three gauge panel. Since Im installing senders for this I decided to do a temporary gauge setup until it becomes a product. Design was to use the ash tray cover as the structure and cover it with a thin cover. Kind of like it as is without the cover. It will accommodate two gauges. Have an oil pressure gauge coming. Gauge in the pic is water temperature. Will also share oil

Finally finished the two temporary gauges waiting for the LeatherZ three gauge panel. Goal right now it to get the car on the road for April 5th. When that happens will post a bunch of pics on the sender installs. Hoping that Andy has the LeatherZ panel for sale by June 30th. Adding two gauges to the ashtray convex side to side and concave front to back created some interesting mod mods. I spent many

BMW Z3 E36 Z4 Maintenance Query for a 2003 2.5

Hello Ive got a question about my 2003 2.5 Z4. Is it possible for a dealer to tell me what Inspections have been done to the car and when they were last performed Could any bmw dealer do this I bought this car from a friend who bought it CPO at 75000 miles. When I got it it was at 84000 miles and it is just passing 91000 miles now. Service indicator is saying Ive got another 2200 miles before service

By way of a partial response...I have an 03 3.0 w104K on it. The bmw information is conflicting on transmission (5spd auto) and differential. They are lifetime fluids but the inspection at 100K calls for both to be changed. Odd...I guess they dont expect either component to last 100K. There are mixed opinions on whether transmission fluid change is a good idea some say it induces failure. In my case

BMW Z3 E36 Z3 and Z4 S54 Forbes S54 rod bearings.

I have an 08 E86 M. I can not reach Randy Forbes to purchase his coated bearings... his PM is full on here. Does anyone know how to purchase or reach him If I can not do it soon I will have to order them from Bimmerworld. Also is there a better choice for rod bolts OEM or ARP TIA

Aww Shipkiller I hate to hear this. Another MZ4 needs rod bearings--I am so glad the factory has proclaimed that this is not a problem for Z4s. My M Coupe no track days with 70000 miles when it had its first Blackstone (I am late to the proper maintenance party and bought the car with 30k) is showing 44ppm lead but no copper. I will soon do another Blackstone if it is the same then I gotta think about

doing something. Under the 100k warranty dealer has proposed that they drop the oil pan if bearings OK I pay and if not they replace--but then I dont get coated or treated bearings. I am a reasonable drive from Randys though the domestic disturbance might add to the difficulty if my toy needs a relatively expensive job. That is by far the highest lead Ive ever heard of The reality is that while bmw

Its almost never advisable to jump to conclusions about wear from a single sample. Especially in the first 20000 miles. For some things yes you can make conclusions (coolant in the oil for example indicates a head gasket issue with high probability). But removing the oil pan to look at the bottom end is likely money not well spent until you have another sample. Of course you can take another sample

Thanks for your thoughts and observations. At this point I am concerned but not yet panicked. Perhaps it is just an aberration. Ill pull another sample midway through this oil change cycle. My next scheduled service will be Inspection I. I am the original owner (PCD in May of 07) and still under warranty. I had the 1200 mile break in service on schedule but did not take a sample from that drain. Here is the current report

BMW SERIES 3 E90 E91 E92 E93 335i Sedan 1000 mile review

Hi fellow Bimmerfesters. Ive really enjoyed reading other peoples experience with the 335 on this forum so I thought Id post mine. I picked up the car roughly 2 weeks ago and have put on nearly 1000 miles of both highway and city driving (Washington DC metro area). Below are my quick impressions of my 335i Sedan (SportAutoPremiumNavSatellite). The Great 1. The engine - The engine the engine the

Lewey I like your style - have read up about your street sleeper Classic in the past. I too would have suggested the 4x4 as a good starting point as it has fully independent suspension at the rear what with all the 4x4 gubbins and all together with a rear ARB into the bargain. It also has discs on the rear as well. I have always thought the suspension on the my current-shape 4x4 (I too had a classic although I left that standard remarkably seeing as Ive never left a car un-molested in my life...) to be excellent and could be truely outstanding with a decent set of properly built and setup dampers. True it rides a bit high but as youre not interested in offroadability you would drop it easily. I am just finishing off a Rotrex Supercharger conversion for my car and I am very very pleased with things so far. I went the SC route rather than turbo as I wanted to preserve the transmission - turbo s just bang too much torque at low revs. The Rotrex (about 23rds the size of the alternators - amazingly compact) just enhances the torque and power profiles of the standard engine so produces nice progressive increases as the revs rise. No fat slug of boost at 2000rpm that rips the gearbox apart. Were still finalising injectors but were using a Dastek UNI-Q piggyback ECU and this is one of the really up-to-date units that manages the whole setup complete with bluetooth switchable maps if you so desire. I have limited boost to 0.6bar only so nothing too drastic. A small neat front-mout IC and oil cooler for the Rotrex complete the picture. I had to change the manifold and exhaust system for a better flowing number but we did nothing silly and have retained a nice quiet legal (proper CAT etc etc) panda yet given it to capacity to breath. The car looks 100% standard except for a slightly more open grill to allow more air into the front of the car. Power and Torque will be anywhere from 100-120 of each peaking at about 6000 and 4000rpm respectively depending on the setup of the restrictor for the Rotrex. My aim is for this to be a perfectly driveable and resilient motor keeping all the fabulaous traits of the standard car (fun chuckable quiet economic practical) but with some added zest when required. I will probably keep things conservative fo obvious reasons. I have already upgraded the brakes with better discs and pads but also have plans for the suspension once the engine is fully sorted. Ive gone back to my roots a bit with this car having done the faster more expensive thing for far too long and needed to bring back the spirit of my youth. I guess its not often that what some might describe as a mid-life crisis (its not though I can assure you..) results in driving around in a stealthy Q-car panda rather than dying my hair black and buying a tacky red Ferrari or bmw Z4 which might be considered the norm... Good luck with yours Phil

BMW SERIES 5 F10 F11 F30 328xi loaner underwhelming
