BMW X5 E70 Seat Belt tensioner failed to operate (lock)

Friday morning I was forced to stop from highway speeds to zero as hard as possible to avoid hitting a driver trying to cross our lane of traffic In the process the seat belt tensioners failed to operate and lock the shoulder belts causing my 8 year old son to slam face first into my seat back and me to move forward into the steering wheel. We both where seen by doctors and diagnosed with whiplash

Sorry to hear about you and your son. Try grabbing upper portion of the driver side belt and pull it quickly. You can do this with the vehicle off. The belt should lock if you pull it hard and fast (mine do) as I believe the locks are mechanical in nature. The other safety system in play is the pre-tensioner. They are electronically activated and pull you back into your seat and add additional tension

diagnosed with whiplash please. That is not a medical diagnosis.... The seat belt lock is different than the pre-tensioner. When an impact is sensed the airbags and pre-tensioners are detonated. (as described above) You seat belts locks may be defective...have your attorney hire an expert. Or ....complain to your bmw dealer asking that they check them AND DOCUMENT IN DETAIL HOW THEY WERE CHECKED FOR

ard I did not mean to start a debate on medical diagnosis. Wanted to know if other bmw X5 owners have stopped hard and if they felt there seat belts stop them feel it in the shoulders or fail. I am not sure what my deceleration curve was but when I first applied the brakes as hard as possible the tires did brake loose before the anti-locks took over X5 has some serious braking with the Michelin Latitude

Wow scary story and I hope your son is ok. I would be pretty worked up if it was my kid that slammed into the seat due to the seat belts not working. I havent had this X5 long enough to notice the belts locking up but usually I drive it quite a bit more conservatively than my other car anyway. But in my other bmws Ive always noticed that the belts lock up fairly easily almost to where its annoying

BMW X5 E70 Baby Seat In the middle backseat

I have a new member of the family on the way in a month or so. Was wondering for those who have put a baby seat in the middle backseat of the x5 do you use the latches or do you use the seatbelt It appears that since there are only 4 metal latches they are only to be used in the seats on either side but you could put a seat in the middle and use both of the inside latches. I checked the manual its

BMW X5 E70 Brand new 2012 X5d... in need of repairs already

Well bmw managed to spoil my new car experience. Yesterday I received my 2012 X5d which I have leased from an out of town dealership. Someone drove the car to my address and the car had about 400 miles on it when I received it (it was a 7 hour drive). The car is spotless as expected for a new car. I drove it on a couple of short trips with no problems detected. And then my in-laws made it to town for

BMW X5 E70 BangingKnocking sound when from cargo area

When Im driving and make a turn at 5mph speed I hear a bangingknocking sound coming from the cargo area. It is really apparent on a smooth surface like a parking garage anybody else been had this thanks in advance

I had some additional noises (rattles in the driver door and pillar) that became bad enough for service to actually pull the door apart apparently there are some lines running through the back side of the door that were supposed to be in a guide.....they were not in the guide and occasionally bouncing against the actual door. The unfortunate part of this being having to actually open up the door at

MERCEDES BENZ CLASS M W163 Trade in value vs used retail

I traded in my 1999 ML320 last month to a bmw dealer. I posted about the new car already but never got to share the trade-in experience maybe it will be informative to someone. This was a vehicle in perfect apparent shape. Cloth seats no sunroof no Bose. 106k one-owner miles. I had recently done coolant trans fluid oil diff service transfer case service new belt pulley and tensioner new pads and rotors

they can gain a lot of money in the used vehicle area. In 2005 when I traded my 2001 ML 320 in perfect shape they gave me 9000.00 for my trade-in. I just traded too my 2005 ML 500 for an Acura 2011 and the Acura dealer just gave me 9500.00 for it. The Mercedes dealer will just give 9000.00 for it too. It is interesting to notice that the Houston I-45 Mercedes dealer owner is the same as the I-45 bmw
