BMW X5 E70 2010 X5 - Roof Rails No Longer Standard

The updated bmw USA website shows that the roof rails are no longer considered standard equipment. Is this correct If so that is a bit lame because who wants an SUV without roof rails

I heard different stories about roof rails some dealers say 100 for part and 175 for installation but some other say a few hundred for the part and thousands for installation. From the bmwUSA the part is listed as 100 for the roof rails. Any body has the accurate information For current 2010 X5 owners with roof rails installed could you check the top to see how the roof rails screw in. I obviously dont want to spend too much money on this. Does not make any sense.

Agree about the minivan comment. I traded my 2008 x5 on a 2010 diesel. I instructed the dealer to spec it out exactly the same as the 2008 when ordering the 2010 except to make it a diesel (great fyi - much stronger and better fuel economy than gas version). My new x5 arrived with no roof rails It looked terrible and I have the ski and bike attachments. After a very prolonged discussion with the dealership that first wanted to charge me 1300 to have the rails installed (yes a horrible process of removing the headliner etc) they agreed to charge only what the rails option would cost if they had properly ordered it so I paid 300. The factory sent two left rails twice so i had a loaner x5 for a week and a half. Im going to inspect the hell out of the headliner and installation over this weekend. It should be an option to NOT have the rails put on - really stupid move by bmw and dealers were not properly informed....

Hi gang - my recent experience here FWIW. I am ordering a new x5 (2010 maybe 2011) and have talked to 2 different bmw dealers here in Rhode Island USA area. Both gave me the same info WRT roof rails - roof rail option for 100 MSRP (if ordered before production with factory install). - Post-factory dealer roof rail install - much more expensive due to the additional removal of headliner etc that is

BMW X5 E70 how much cost you to install roof rail on 2010 X5

My dealer is asking 1500 to install roof rail on my 2010 X5 35d.( part labor program update) kind of high right How much should be a resaonable price

only costs 100 if you order the roof rail as an option Id say thats just a little bit high. Indeed it does seem a bit high but remember they have to remove the inside roof liner to do it e.g. its a lot less labor when installed on the line before the liner is installed. The rails look a bit expensive as well if ordered through the parts system rather than as an original option httpwww.realoem.combmwshowparts...51&fg20&hl17

you are right. Thr roof rail installation does not need program update. that is my misunderstanding. I order x5 35d in Sep. At that time the roof rail is not an option however when the car arrives in Nov. the roof rail becomes an option. So it turns out that I do not have roof rail on my new x5 and need to pay extra to have it installed. does not sound fair but it is the fact I have to face. If someone

I ordered my 2010 bmw X5 4.8i without roof rails. I called the dealership about a week after the order and asked them to amend the order to add the roof rails (I thought it looked cooler more sporty with them). They said it was too late to do this as the vehicle was already in production. Its a 100 option. Apparently later installation really is kind of a pain. I was told it would be about 1500.00

BMW X5 E70 M-Sport Shadowline Roof Rails

So my parents have a 2013 X5 50i on order with M-SportM-Performance and I noticed that the roof rails in the package are matte aluminum. BMW X5 E70 Roof Loading Question

The car Ive been using for trips in the past (up until getting my 2011 X5 35d) had no sunroof and I would strap a fabric Thule bag to the roof rails...but the bag sat directly on the roof (probably 60-80 lbs of stuff). Im wondering if this is recommended on the big panoramic sunroof that is on my X5. The manual states a roof load limit of 200 lbs but I cant tell if that is for the roof rails (like

BMW X5 E70 Roof Top RackBox - Thule Yakima Etc

Hi wondering what youve found success with regarding a roof-top box on a rack. All I currently have are the factory rails so I need cross bars and a roof top box. What equipment and sizes for both have you had luck with I will be carrying ski equipment et. al. Thanks

Good to hear it. Thats exactly what Im looking for. Is the size good for the X5 I was up on my roof last night and theres not too much length up there. How noisy is it up on your roof And what is your base bar whats whispbar Thanks Quote Originally Posted by zachp13 I just put the Thule boxter on the X and love it. It is 18cf. I went for whispbar but have heard good things about the bmw bars and the non-square Thule bars.

BMW X5 E70 2011 X5 Roof Cargo System

Does anyone have any suggestions for cargo boxes that will fit to

BMW X5 E70 Bikes - roof hitch or door mount

Id like to use my 2012 X5 to carry 2-4 bikes. What is my best option 1) Trailer Hitch Mount - this would be my first choice but I dont have a trailer hitch. Do they cost a lot to install after market 2) roof rack - I dont think this is an option for 4 bikes and besides I doubt my wife could lift the bikes up top without scratching the paint. 3) Rear door - any experience with these Seems like I could find at least a 3 bike capacity for the rear door. Any advice is appreciated.

So dont jump to the conclusion that hitch mounts are any more idiot-proof. As Forest Gump would say Stupid is as stupid does. The best bet when the roof wont close or something is try to reset it. There are some threads about this around the fest search is ur friend. Regardless get it checked ASAP and repaired the pano roof that arent having issues with the water drains historically have their entire pano roof cassette replaced ()

BMW X5 E70 no roof rail available for 2010 X5

I just got my 2010 X5 35d but there is no roof rail. Dealer says 2010 is a new model they do have detailed info about what roof rail should be installed. Really Does it happen to your 2010 35d too

All 2010 X5s have the roof rails as an option now for 100 list price. no longer standard. However if you want them in the future be prepared to shell out a lot of money. You have to drop the headliner just to get at the bolts to install them. Very labor intensive. On a different note I want to get rid of mine. You can have mine from my E70. What color is your 35d

BMW X5 E70 Looking for your thoughts Thule Roof carrier or cargo basket on a tow hitch

Since I have downsized from a cargo perspective I am going to need the space for the occasional road trip. The dealer quoted

BMW X5 E70 Why are roof rails optional

Just saw a base no pano 18 inch wheels no option 35i non-prem. at the dealer and damn it looks dull and boring in Bronze. It didnt even have roof rails. Friends of my parents recently got a Vermillion Red X3 without roof rails too and it just looks awkward and stupid. Why oh why did you make them optional bmw

Some people such as myself prefer the X5 without the roof rails. I believe form follows function and having no use for roof rails myself prefer not to have extraneous stuff bolted-on like a J C Whitney catalog special. But beauty is in the eye of the beholder and roof rails are one of those things which depends entirely on which eye is viewing the vehicle. Having them as an option give people the choice. I wouldnt mind if they were standard as long as they had a delete option.
