BMW X5 E70 2010 X5 - Roof Rails No Longer Standard

The updated bmw USA website shows that the roof rails are no longer considered standard equipment. Is this correct If so that is a bit lame because who wants an SUV without roof rails

I heard different stories about roof rails some dealers say 100 for part and 175 for installation but some other say a few hundred for the part and thousands for installation. From the bmwUSA the part is listed as 100 for the roof rails. Any body has the accurate information For current 2010 X5 owners with roof rails installed could you check the top to see how the roof rails screw in. I obviously dont want to spend too much money on this. Does not make any sense.

Agree about the minivan comment. I traded my 2008 x5 on a 2010 diesel. I instructed the dealer to spec it out exactly the same as the 2008 when ordering the 2010 except to make it a diesel (great fyi - much stronger and better fuel economy than gas version). My new x5 arrived with no roof rails It looked terrible and I have the ski and bike attachments. After a very prolonged discussion with the dealership that first wanted to charge me 1300 to have the rails installed (yes a horrible process of removing the headliner etc) they agreed to charge only what the rails option would cost if they had properly ordered it so I paid 300. The factory sent two left rails twice so i had a loaner x5 for a week and a half. Im going to inspect the hell out of the headliner and installation over this weekend. It should be an option to NOT have the rails put on - really stupid move by bmw and dealers were not properly informed....

Hi gang - my recent experience here FWIW. I am ordering a new x5 (2010 maybe 2011) and have talked to 2 different bmw dealers here in Rhode Island USA area. Both gave me the same info WRT roof rails - roof rail option for 100 MSRP (if ordered before production with factory install). - Post-factory dealer roof rail install - much more expensive due to the additional removal of headliner etc that is

BMW X5 E70 how much cost you to install roof rail on 2010 X5

My dealer is asking 1500 to install roof rail on my 2010 X5 35d.( part labor program update) kind of high right How much should be a resaonable price

only costs 100 if you order the roof rail as an option Id say thats just a little bit high. Indeed it does seem a bit high but remember they have to remove the inside roof liner to do it e.g. its a lot less labor when installed on the line before the liner is installed. The rails look a bit expensive as well if ordered through the parts system rather than as an original option httpwww.realoem.combmwshowparts...51&fg20&hl17

you are right. Thr roof rail installation does not need program update. that is my misunderstanding. I order x5 35d in Sep. At that time the roof rail is not an option however when the car arrives in Nov. the roof rail becomes an option. So it turns out that I do not have roof rail on my new x5 and need to pay extra to have it installed. does not sound fair but it is the fact I have to face. If someone

I ordered my 2010 bmw X5 4.8i without roof rails. I called the dealership about a week after the order and asked them to amend the order to add the roof rails (I thought it looked cooler more sporty with them). They said it was too late to do this as the vehicle was already in production. Its a 100 option. Apparently later installation really is kind of a pain. I was told it would be about 1500.00

BMW X5 E70 How costly would it be to retrofit roof rails & the rear-view camera

I was going to ask if its possible but I imagine anything is if you have the that being said how much would each cost TIA.

Quote Originally Posted by drpahjee I was going to ask if its possible but I imagine anything is if you have the that being said how much would each cost TIA. I think the roof rails are probably the easier of the two but IIRC it is quite an ordeal as you have to drop the headliner pull the weather stripping etc. I wanted the individual rails but after looking at the installation I decided not to. httpwww.xoutpost.combmw-sav-foru...roof-rail.html

The answer to the very question you asked. Knudson please re-read the linked thread.

BMW X5 E70 Black roof rail question

Hey guys Im in the process of ordering a carbon black x5 with m sport and i wanted to get the X5m high-gloss black roof rails - not a big fan of the silver roof rails on an all black vehicle. It seems that I cant order them. Do you know where I could buy them On bmwusa they are a 100 option when you build the X5M. Any help would be appreciated. Raj

Changing them after you get the X5 is expensive because the headliner has to come out and it is a lot of labor. I have heard that it would cost about 1100 to change them. You probably get the shinny black roof rails under the individual order process but most dealers dont know how to or dont want to do it. Check with some of the sponsors and see if they will do it for you. Chuck

BMW X5 E70 rust on roof rails not covered (runt)

After 18 months of ownership (lease) and 20K kms on the odo of my 2011 X5 I noticed a bubble on the driver side of the black roofrail about 1 inch round. While at the dealer for oil change I pointed out the problem to them and they took several pictures of the rails and I was told that they would be send to bmw along with a report of the problem. A few weeks went by so I called back to find out when

BMW X5 E70 Did anyone upgrade the Roof Rails to Alu later

I like to upgrade my X5 with the aluminium ones a little later but have know idea how to do I guess i have to come also from the inside to relase the old one and to set the new ones. Did anyone did this before Im also a little worry about the airbags in that area...... Thanks for all your answers

Where can I buy M roof rails for a 2011 X5 35d Does dropping the headliner cause any issues when putting it back Is it advisable My X5 doesnt have roof rails - do holes need to be drilled in the roof Thanks all.

The aluminum roof rails look great and work great e.g. with Thule racks. As AU mentioned similar system works in Q7 I used them on A6. Pitty I do not have such rails on X5...

Some people such as myself prefer the X5 without the roof rails. I believe form follows function and having no use for roof rails myself prefer not to have extraneous stuff bolted-on like a J C Whitney catalog special. But beauty is in the eye of the beholder and roof rails are one of those things which depends entirely on which eye is viewing the vehicle. Having them as an option give people the choice. I wouldnt mind if they were standard as long as they had a delete option.

BMW X5 Roof rail finishes

What are the available roof rail finishes Are they all black in the end I have ordered a X5 M Sport and the VIR says Satin Aluminum roof rails 3AT but the symbol to the left says its an alternative option. My main concern is I want black roof rails that will look good with the Shadowline trim. This is my 3rd order over the past 10 years but one always obsesses over the small stuff until delivery.

BMW X5 E70 no roof rail available for 2010 X5

I just got my 2010 X5 35d but there is no roof rail. Dealer says 2010 is a new model they do have detailed info about what roof rail should be installed. Really Does it happen to your 2010 35d too

All 2010 X5s have the roof rails as an option now for 100 list price. no longer standard. However if you want them in the future be prepared to shell out a lot of money. You have to drop the headliner just to get at the bolts to install them. Very labor intensive. On a different note I want to get rid of mine. You can have mine from my E70. What color is your 35d

When I place my order th roof rail is included. when 2010 is out bmw lists it as an option. That leaves my car does have it. Hard to believe they handle this way BTW. mine is space grey.

I Dont know how to take out the insert. I can not even find where can I put on the rail roof It does not look like other models that you can easily see those 4 places to install roof rail. Mine does not have those insert at all. I guess that is why dealer does not know how to put on rails and need to wait for manufacturers instruction.

BMW X5 E70 2007 X5 Roof Rails

Does anybody know if bmw or aftermarket companies offer chrome or brushed aluminum roof rails

Yes bmw will outfit your X5 with brushed alum rails for about 300. Just got mine last week. Surprizing that they didnt come with the vehicle.

BMW X5 E70 Roof rack no side rails. Looking for options 2011 e70

My car does not have side rails. I was searching and the only useful information I found is that it would cost a xxxx load of money to have them installed( to the tune of 1600) I am not willing to spend more than 500. ( need for kayak ). Is there anything aftermarket that would fit nicely Is it possible to easily install the side rails ( it looks like you have to remove the headliner. If this is the case no go) Thank you

If you are talking about the roof rails then they are not that expensive. There are DIYs posted on how to remove the roofliner to install them. If you dont mind spending some time working on yoru car have a look httpwww.xoutpost.combmw-sav-foru...stall-diy.html
